I think AFD was perfect as is....the only Illusions song that I think could have snuck on would be you could be mine.

My one question about this thread though goes out to D:
Do you really think by adding NR and Don't Cry that it would have sold that many more albums?....it would have to sell 11 million more albums just to catch Thriller

it wouldve came close

think about it

how well would have afd crossed over with nr and dc

most that cd is hard and were snatched up by rock fans

nr, dc wouldve made my mom and dad buy it

so 11 million more i think wouldve been very possible

records sold like hell back in the late 80's

so yeah GNR pulled a bon jovi

bon jovi had at least 2 more singles off Slippery when wet but they pulled the plug on the album

GNR were full steam ahead but only released 3 singles in the US imagine if they wouldve continued riding that storm and released two songs like dont cry and nr back to back following scom and pc

No they didn't.  Tongue

There weren't more singles on that album unlike Bon Jovi, whose albums are full of singles for "moms and dads".....  hihi

So don't compare a rock band like GN'R to a radiofriendly pop rock act like Bon Jovi.  Tongue

Now that we've decided that AFD is perfect the way it is. Is your next thread gonna be about how great Lies could've been if they had included Don't Cry and November Rain on it?  Grin

November Rain and Don't Cry doesn't fit in Appettite, maybe Don't Cry but AFD was a guitar driven kick ass in  you face album.  It's perfect as it is.  November Rain made a few people think about GN'R again because they had a fuck you image.  AFD was aggressive, and NR and Don't Cry just didn't fit in the album.  They did perfectly fit in the Illusion Albums though

NR and Don't cry would have sucked if they were released back in '87. Those songs took years to be brought to perfection, especially NR.

Anyway,who gives a fuck???

I love the album the way it is entirely but as someone pointed out already, the only two tracks i wouldnt mind have been replaced with something, anything else at all would be Anything Goes and Your'e Crazy. I just do not like those songs at all. Something about the sheer beauty of SCOM abd then the thunderous riff of Your'e Crazy ruins it for me, and I think Anything Goes is a really weak song. Noway would November Rain have fit on there at all. The redone tracklisting that you included would actually damage the flow of the album in my opinion. All albums have flaws and no perfect album exist but AFD is pretty close in my opinion.

ok guys we are make believing here

im sayin if dont cry and november rain wouldve been finished

come on this is hypothetical

and jarmo why didnt gnr release rocket queen as a single?

that is at times my fav gnr song on afd, i think it couldve done well on the charts

DISCLAIMER:

WHEN TALKIN BOUT AFD IM SPEAKING STRICTLY IN SALES ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

of course its the greatest rock cd of all time music wise, im talkin stictly sales

appetite is perfect as is and its hard imagining any different cause we've been listening to it for over a decade and a half

had it been released out of the gates with those two songs it still wouldve been awesome

dont think as hearin it now, u got to think hypothetically

this is sort of pointless but its still cool thinkin of what if this or that

also another point im makin is

some people say gnr changed their image got softer with the illusions etc

mypoint is they already had these "soft" songs wrote, so technically they didnt sell out or change at all cause that style was apart of them from the beginning

Because the album had run its course regarding singles?

Nightrain was released in 1989, GN'R Lies had already been released with Patience as the single.

Of course they didn't sell out. But as Axl himself pointed out, in the Making Of Don't Cry I think, they wanted to save Don't Cry for the second album. They knew it was a good song and saved it because they didn't know if Appetite For Destruction would sell at all.

That baiscally means you can forget about having Don't Cry on the album.

November Rain was probably saved for later because it just wouldn't fit the album. It's a ten minute epic, name another ten minute epics on that album. There is none.

I agree about You Could Be Mine would have fit fine on AFD. I think two songs would have been fine on it You Could Be Mine and back Off Bitch both would have been cool on AFD. I don't think Don't Cry and NR would have been a good thing for AFD. I think it is the greatest album I heard and of all time.  Smiley

It's as if you're talking just to hear the sound of your voice.

Or making a thread just for the sake of making a thread.

Hypothetically huh??

So then let's discuss, "hypothetically".....would the Mona Lisa have been more impactual if she was "better" looking??

Answer: "Why ask the question because it is what it is"

Appetite For Destruction is THE GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL MOTHERFUCKIN TIME and discussion otherwise is blasphemy.

True GN'R fans don't question AFD.

THE END
