Appetite for Rock!

« on: April 19, 2004, 06:04:15 AM »

I?ve been listening to Use Your Illusion I & II for 12 years now and I still love theses albums - but damn it  Angry - I STILL hear and read about people saying that Guns should have ended their career after Appetite For Destruction stating that the Illusions songs with a few exceptions are pure crap!

It irritates me SO fucking much because while Appetite contains of almost pure hits (not in the term "Greatest Hits") I like to see the Illusion albums as unities describing what?s going on inside the heads of Guns N?Roses members - especially inside Axl?s head - concerning women, the press, loneliness and of course all the illusions around the band at that time.

While I listen to Use Your Illusion I as it is, I normally programme the cd player to play the Use Your Illusion II-songs in this row of order:

1.   Civil War
2.   14 Years
3.   Yesterdays
4.   Knocking On Heavens Door
5.   Shotgun Blues
6.   Breakdown
7.   Pretty Tied Up
8.   Get In The Ring
9.   Locomotive
10. So Fine
11. You Could Be Mine
12. Estranged

I normally skip "Don?t Cry (Alt lyrics)" and ALWAYS skip "My World". But apart from the two latter tracks IMO everyone who beyond my belief hate the Illusion cd?s should give them another chance if they liked or loved Appetite. They as well are classics. ok

It angers me a bit when all the press and that always talk about appetite but barely mention the illusions

Appetite for Rock!

I remember a few years ago that Axl mentioned something about the Illusion albums. He said that though the fans may have their favourites on Use Your Illusion I & II he thought of the albums as something coming from a dying band and would therefore only play a few of them at concerts.

Perhaps Guns N? Roses were slowly dying at the time "The Illusions" came out .... but remember that The Beatles also faced a crisis when they made the legendary White Album which is considered as a masterpiece by many people who love them. If Use You Illusion I & II  "came from a dying band" then I guess that Chinese Democracy must come from a half buried or dead band. In other words:

Pure nonsense !

Listen to the songs and judge them by how they sound not by the way the press treat them or for that matter which state the band members are in. As long as there still are a band. nervous

Hell yeah!! The Illusions are magnificent! But I still say one Illusion would have been enough (and dare I say, better than Appetite)

The Illusion albums are fucking great and I think they are better than Appetite the reason why I think it is better because they changed they're music on this and done something different because we dont wanna see Appetite over and over again thats what made the Illusion albums so great.

I remember back in 1991, Guns N' Roses were much more promoted than they are today. I had to wait 1 week and a half after the release date of the Illusion albums cause they were all sold.. Ahhh the good old days, besides my grandmother, everybody owned Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II.  beer

I also love the sound of "The Spaghetti Incident?" smoking

Possibly because they released albums then and toured....... hihi

Well it isn?t because the track itself is bad but I usually listen to Use Your Illusion II right after Illusion I and since number one contains the original, I just don?t wanna listen to almost the same track again. IMO it was stupid to let Illusion II end with another version of "Don?t Cry" and especially with the awful "My World". I think "Don?t Cry" belongs to Use Your Illusion I and that?s it.  Smiley

By the way does any other of you programme the songs in another row of order (both on Illusion I & II) on your cd-player?. Have you noticed how much some songs grow if you do so?
