Playing Rocket Queen's solo with Amplitube
«
on:

I made that very quickly just to show how this awesome VST plugin works. That's why I fucked up the tempo and some bends...
But anyways, check it out:
http://rapidshare.de/files/8712170/Rocket_Queen_Solo.mp3.html
I recorded with a clean Yamaha strato with humbuckers in-line on the computer's soundboard card and used an awesome plugin (along with the Adobe Audition).
It's called Amplitube. Richard Fortus made a video promo for this plugin (it's somewhere on the board) and it's very easy to use. I downloaded A LOT of presets. In this RQ solo, I used the Slash in WTTJ preset for the rhythm and Slash in SCOM for the solo. There's also a Buckethead in Big Sur Moon preset with heavy Delay. Take a look:
What do you guys think?

Yeah, Amplitude kicks ass! Almost all the distortion on my songs are also done with amplitude, it's also great for distorting vocal tracks.

Well... I'm not exactly sure about VST plugins - I assume that's a standard plugin format? I use RTAS plugins with Pro Tools, but Sampletank also kicks a lot of ass. It's a synthesizer, but quality synthesizer that almost sound like samples. Apparently ememin used it for his songs on the 8 Mile sound track. T-Racks is also a good EQing plugin. It's not a plugin, but Reason is also incredibly awesome, and you can access it within Pro Tools via a plugin. You can basically build a rack of all these different types of equipment (samples, synthesizers, loop players, drum machines, reverb units, etc.) however you want, flip the whole thing around, hook up all the cables, wire it all up how you want (yeah, it actually has full physics for the cables, it's kinda funny), and then send that all into your DAW.

Thanks dude, but I don't have Pro Tools because of the hardware. I'm trying to do the best I can with the Adobe Audition 1.5 and the plugins - mostly FREE ones.
But for Pro Tools, I recommend the SansAmp. It's very accurate and easy to use. I used in my EP, but only to tweak some small stuff I didn't record with the mesa/boogie.
And yes, VST is the standard format - but there's the VSTi and also the DirectX (at least, for PC users).
I'm now trying to get the GuitaRig. Do you know this one? Is it any good?

If you bought Ampliube after September 1st, then You get a free upgrade to Amplitube 2 which is going to be one hell of a thing.
What is it about the hardware that made you not wantto get pro-tools...or isthis just a money thing?
Have you ever tried using the sans-am on drum tracks?....very fuckin cool.
As for guitar rig, I have heard some mixed reviews about it. EveryoneI know has told me not to even bother since I get Amplitube 2 for free when it comes out.

As far as I know, to use the Pro Tools I must have some kind of audio card - wich I havn't. But it's also a money thing.
What is sans-am? Is it some kinda of compressor?
About the Amplitube 2... Put some review (with pics!) here when you get it, please!

Cool, I've never heard of SansAmp.? Is it similar to Amplitude?

No, I've never actually heard of it.? My experience is basically limited to Pro Tools and the plugins I mentioned above.

FYI, the cheapest Pro Tools hardware you can get is the Mbox, which sells for US $450. It actually plugs in via USB so you could theoretically use it at gigs with a laptop. You can also get Pro Tools FREE, which is very limited, but it's free and works with any hardware.

No, it's more to overdrive/distortion. I think it has some amps too, but I'm not sure.
Here's a song recorded with a Gibson Les Paul Goldtop + Mesa/Boogie + Danelectro T-Bone Distortion + Marshall Jackhammer and tweaked with the Sansamp:
http://rapidshare.de/files/8455295/Nada_a_Fazer_BO.mp3.html
(the lyrics are in portuguese, but I think the main thing listen to the guitar)

Yeah, but here in Brasil everything is more expansive because of the taxes - and that sucks.
The Pro Tools FREE doesn't work with Windows XP and only allow like 8 tracks.

Sorry, that was a typo. It was supposed to be Sans-Amp. It is really cool if you just use it on the kick and the snare. It is good for intros or if you want a really nasty distorted guitar sound.
I have been waiting impatiently for amplitube to come out. I will do a review whenever I get it. From what I have read on the website, it is going to be like having your own guitar studio on a computer. You will be able to choose from different amp heads from brands like marshall, fender, mesa etc... THen you will be able to choose what kind of cabinet you want to run the amp head through. THen you can choose what kind of mic you want to mic the cab with, andif you want to set the mic off-axis, straight on, etc... then you will be able to choose from a myriad of effects. So yeah, it will be a beast.

Oh, I talked about the sansamp to loretian on this topic. I used to put a little more dirty on the guitar sound.
But these stuff about the new amplitube... Well, besides the mic position (wich you can have in different plugins), it's not new to the amplitube 1.

Also a lot more expensive than Amplitube...

You NEED a low latency sound device ... in my case, I have been using a standard Creative Labs, Soundblaster Live! 1024, and using hacked drivers... (
www.kxproject.com
) ... these drivers use the hardware on the card, where Creative's own driver's didn't, and they allow you to use ASIO in low latency... anyways... I then just plug my guitar straight into the Line In on the card.
www.nativeinstruments.com
has samples of the software and what it can do.

But you're right, Guitar Rig has A LOT of effects/amps/whatever.
Funny how Guitar Rig is sponsored (sp?) by Robin Finck and Amplitube is by Richard Fortus.

Here you are:
http://rapidshare.de/files/16033763/250_Amplitube_Presets.zip.html
250 presets ONLY for Amplitube plugin. There are a few Slash's presets (WTTJ intro and rhythm, wha, SCOM solo...) and even Buckethead in Big Sur Moon.

I'm sorry, I don't think you're getting the right end of the stick. Amplitube is the SAME principal as Guitar Rig. It doesn't make a difference what sound card you have... Amplitube DOESN'T use the sound hardware to generate it's sounds... it uses software... same as Guitar Rig. Sorry mate, but Guitar Rig is basically the program that Amplitube wishes it was. Amplitube is good, but Guitar Rig is WAY better. The sound hardware is irrelevant... purely to push sound from one end to another. You can use Guitar Rig with ANY low latency sound device... and you can use Amplitube with ANY low latency sound device. I used to use Amplitube... for about 3 years. So I know what I'm talking about
Guitar Rig may be more complex, but that's because it's LOADS more customisable. And not only that, it is actually easy, because it rack's up like a real guitar setup...
No one should use Amplitube if they can use Guitar Rig.

I didn't talk about latency. I may not said the real reason for the diference, but of course there's a difference between the two programs and I prefer to use Amplitube. Maybe because I use it as a VST plugin in Adobe Auditon - Guitar Rig doesn't work in AA, unfortunatly.
Also, I said Guitar Rig is indeed good and have a lot of fx. If you like dozen of effects, amps and everything, this is the right place for you. If you search just for something to have fun and make good sounds too, use Amplitube. That's how I see it.

I *thought* it was because cheap soundcards. But the fact is that a simple overdrive doesn't work here as good as in Amplitube. Unless I put some compressor, delay, chorus and mess around with the amps and mic's position, the sound is not good enough for me.
Like you said, there's tons of stuff to use. But just to get a good sound, you need some more things. Maybe my presets aren't good enough (and I have tons), but the only ones I really liked were those with weird sounds. To build a custom sound, you need some time... Well, I don't have much time, so...

Try to check the windows volume control.. you can switch from what source you want to use to record...
This is my safest bet, I don't have a webcam, so I dunno what's really happening with you.

Wow, you still have a hard time respecting other people's opinion, huh?

NOOOOO! YOU said that the sound in cheap soundcards etc etc... referring to Guitar Rig. So therefore you MADE YOURSELF sound like you didn't know what you were talking about. Read your posts before you post and we'll be on the same level
Here's what I said:
Quote from: Voodoochild on March 19, 2006, 08:01:43 PM
I think Guitar Rig has an awesome look, but the sound in cheap soundcards are not that good as Amplitube. At least, with Amplitube, I can get good sounds with the presets. With Guitar Rig, I need to mess around a bit to find real sounds...
Quote from: Ozzycat on March 21, 2006, 03:55:48 PM
Guitar Rig is better. Simple. You can do everything you can do in Amplitube, and more, better.
You can do more. Better, it's your opinion.
Quote from: Ozzycat on March 21, 2006, 03:55:48 PM
And Guitar Rig works as a VST plugin in Adobe Audition 2.0 for me!!!!
Good for you!
You're an argumentative little fucker aren't you
Each to their own. If you prefer the inferior products... fine
I guess you prefer Epiphone over Gibson, and Squire over Fender... right?

What? I'm not sure I understood... Anyways, try to put your soundcard device, forget the midi thing.

No, it's more like you prefer a huge setup with tons of effects like '80s guitarists and all I prefer is just some good valve amps with good guitars. But each to their own, right?

Actually... wanna see my rig?
Guitars:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gibson Les Paul Standard (1987), with Seymour Duncan, '59 and JB pickups
Fender Telecaster Custom
Amplification:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marshall JCM 900 4500 Head (valve)
Marshall 1936 2x12" Cab (great big sound, easier to move than a 4x12")
Pedals:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jim Dunlop Crybaby Wah
MXR Zakk Wylde Overdrive (to boost leads)
Far from an 80's over the top setup... I prefer the quality of the sounds in Guitar Rig. Not necessarily all the stuff that comes with it
So, now chat to some of the old skoolerz on the board who know me
Chill out bro!

I can read your sign already, but thanks for the info. I'm here long enough to know you too. But it doesn't change the fact that you said you wanted "more" with Guitar Rig:

Guitar Rig is better. Simple. You can do everything you can do in Amplitube, and more, better.
You can do more with extra pedals and extra amps in your rig too! Why don't you buy some more gear?

There are a lot of tools and a lot of options out there. In my opinion, depending on one's goals, you need to consider what your aim is with the tools you choose to go with. In any "real professional' studio, you're not going to be be using Guitar Rig, or Amplitude, or Guitar Suite or whatever the hell you anyone think is the best software, with the best sounds, you'll go with a real amp, with a nice microphone.
That said, for whatever we must do in the meantime, I choose software that has an "opinion" over software that gives me a lot of options. My use with guitar rig is minimal, but I felt like I could tweak it a lot, though never get a sound I really, really liked. Amplitude, no matter how I tweaked it, I always liked the sound. So, for what I'm faced with, I choose software that matches me. I think that's an option for everyone, despite all the choices we have.

Actually quite a lot of guitarists use software in the studio...
Buckethead uses software a LOT in the studio... Amp Farm is considered a LARGE part of his studio sounds
So there! LOL!
I gotta say tho... none of the shit sounds as good as my pro setup
I love my amp and guitar etc...

NOOOOOOOOOOO, you used "you can do more" as an argument to how Guitar Rig is better. If you say so, even if I said before how I didn't really care about the tons of stuff in Guitar Rig, I could only imagine YOU wanted more and that's why you prefer the program. Semantics...

Thanks dude for backing me up. I heard your songs and I know you're a very good musician, so maybe Ozzycat can at least understand how people may have a different opinion.

For someone who said that everyone *should* use Guitar Rig instead of Amplitube, you don't look like you really understand...
I only care about my opinion. All I did was trying to backing it up.

I don't have money for that. All I have is a 10W Marshall just to mess around here at home. When I play live, I use a JCM2000 or an old mesa-boogie.
Better don't talk about my gear, really.

Where do you get the 2000 from? I used to have one, but as soon as I played the 900, I had to sell the 2000 and get the 900 because it sounded SO fucking sweet

It's not mine, I dunno where did they get it... I agree, the 900 sounds better (at least to the sound I want).
