Slash: Velvet Revolver Building Web Site To Audition Singers

April 18, 2008,
Christa Titus, New York

Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash tells Billboard.com that the band is creating a web site to audition singers. The new site will help Velvet Revolver replace Scott Weiland, whose April 1 dismissal from the band continued the public feud between the ex-frontman and his former bandmates.

"The band is actually talking about actually building a Web site [and] doing some auditions via that, so that's been something that's developing at this point," Slash explains, noting that it should be happening "in the next month or so."

Slash adds that he doesn't yet have anyone in mind for Weiland's replacement. "We're at that point of just listening to different things... it's one of those kind of situations where you can't really explain it to anybody because you'll know it when you hear it. So I'm waiting to get that feeling of, 'Yeah that's it.' "

In the meantime, Slash says Velvet Revolver has an upcoming gig in Las Vegas, which was booked before Weiland's departure, that will feature friends of the band taking turns at the microphone.

"I'm not gonna name any names, but a bunch of well-known people will get up and sing some songs, and then also bring up a couple people that we think are pretty good and might sing a couple songs," he says. "So it'd just be for fun."

As previously reported, former Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland will be spending his summer on an extensive North American tour with the recently reunited Stone Temple Pilots.

Not a bad idea I guess... something kinda cool and interactive for all of us.....

Either that or not know anything until they have something... which could be a while.

This way we'll have constant updates. I like it.

Good point.  Do you really think they're going to pick someone from a web audition?

I think this is the best route, find someone unknown with talent. I told a friend of mine who is a great frontman for his group to send something in when the site is up. No more supergroup bullshit, find someone good. Ozzy found Zakk when he was nineteen off a demo tape, should be easier today with all the technology and all. Only thing making it harder is going through all the losers.

Here we go again....auditioning singers.  I, for one, am disappointed in this new turn of events, because I was under the impression they already had someone in mind.   The TV documentary, the first time around, was interesting, but I can't believe they are really going to go this route, again!  WTF?  Roll Eyes

Well, it did kind of work last time, didn't it? I mean, in a way it did bring about a meeting with Scott.

Wow because this approach worked so well the first time.

I still think they wanta "name" singer, but it would be interesting to see if they find anyone this way-the guy from Little Hell didn't fare out too well from the VH1 Inside Out show, but it would be interesting to see if something like that happens again-I think that guy came in thinking he had the gig-it was interesting to watch

I too thought they had a guy..... Further proves Weiland left them and they were not prepared.

How many times do you people have to be told that Izzy doesn't do that kind of stuff anymore. He doesn't want to tour for long periods of time, and I'm sure he doesn't want to get involved in this band after the way they rejected his songs.

No reality show? Cry

Watch for Slash on the next Celebrity Big Brother..

I like what you said, but why are you talking?

Just wow that they are now going to start looking for singers - didn't AMS (All-Mighty-Slash) say that they were planning on "extraditing" Scott for a while?  I suppose some people just don't plan ahead.

Not only that but he said they were already working with other people last year. What happened to them? They decided they didn't like the way slash et all does business or something?

He said they were supporting Scott if he needed their help in February, but then he said they had already planned on replacing him for the tour that started on March 12th.

Also, apparently they had a guy ready but not enough time to bring him along.

I wonder if that guy will have to upload audition videos to the new VR site.....

Velvet Revolver to Launch Web Site to Recruit New Singer

4/21/08, 10:30 am EST

Slash of the currently singer-less Velvet Revolver told Billboard that the band plans on setting up a Web site where potential vocalists will post video of themselves in hopes of swaying VR. ?The band is actually talking about building a Web site [and] doing some auditions via that, so that?s been something that?s developing at this point,? Slash said of the site, which should be up ?in the next month or so.? It?s like when Journey recruited a singer on YouTube, or Rock Star: Supernova without the television. Contrary to what Slash told RS last month, the guitarist said the band has no one specific in mind to fill the vacancy left by Scott Weiland?s departure. Velvet Revolver does have an upcoming gig in Las Vegas ? a concert booked before Weiland?s exile ? and will feature special guests taking turns at the microphone. No word whether Sebastian Bach has been invited.

"the site should be up and running by early June"
