Hi everybody.I am new in the Internet world and new to this great message board.
I'd like to know if some of you has ever gotten a signed picture of Axl,if so where should I write to ask for one?
I 'd like to make a special present for a close friend of mine who's been a hard die Axl fan for more than 15 years now. Thanks.

I was thinking about writing to his label or something like that..I know most times they send you a preprinted photo, but it would be better than nothing.

Did any of you guys ever write to Axl himself? In case you did,did you get a reply?

Grin   I'd be curious to know how you would see the difference. Like Izzy said, Axl's signature is really easy to forge. No offense, but you're pretty damn naive if you think most autographed items sold on ebay are real. And that's coming from someone who's been browsing it every day for the past 7 years.

Personally no, but I know someone who did.  He collects autographs and sent Axl something to sign.  It was never sent back.  Its difficult to find an address to send stuff to, and if you do, there's no guarantee it is accurate.  If you really want the autograph, your best bet is ebay, but you will never be 100% sure its authentic.

Speaking of ebay, did anybody see that greatest hits cd that was supposedly signed by axl, slash, duff, and steven? I think it ended near $80.

Yea I emailed the guy and asked why he thinks we should believe that Axl signed a cd that he didn't want to come out, with his former friends, with no proof. I didn't get a reply.

My view on this is:

If they don't, then who the fuck do they think they are? Do they think they are private citizens? (regardless of what the mods think here in thier own imaginary worlds).. WE made them what they are with cash and adoration, WE deserve a bit back.

To think they deserve total privacy, well you must be living in the mods (and the owner of this sites) dream world.

As a former sports autograph dealer on eBay, I greatly take offense to this statement.  Most of what I've seen on eBay is real.  Once in a while, there are fakes, but if you know EXACTLY what to look for (the problem is most don't know what to look for), you're all set.

P.S.-- Photos of someone signing and certificates of authenticity mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

My friend who gets autographs has gotten most of what he's ever asked for.  He's not trying to get anyone to write him letters though.  He just sends something he'd like signed, along with a note saying he's a fan and asking nicely to please sign and return the enclosed item.  He sends it with a SASE to make it simple, and he usually gets stuff back.  But like I said, Axl is one of the few who didn't return what he sent.  But there's no way of know if it was actually a valid address.

I think some celebrities are getting more careful about signing stuff though, because they want to do it for their fans and instead end up doing it for someone who's just getting it to sell.

Hi Sterling, could please tell me which address your friend sent his letter?

I really would like to do this for my friend,as he' s such a devoted fan and he's not really good these days, unfortunately.

The problem is, even if you can tell one fake autograph - then the person making them knows what to do better next time. Plus, what good is some ink on a picture if you buy it off ebay? I'd like one for myself :-)

Sorry, but I don't have it.  It just came off the internet, one of those sites where they list celebrity addresses for requesting autographs.  Like I said, there's no way to know if it was ever valid.

No I wrote it years ago.  I got the addy off of snakepit.org tho so you can see if they still have it.  I wrote it when he wasn't doing anything.  Now that he's in VR he may not have enough time to write back.

Axl bummed a smoke off a guy I met many many years ago (before or right when AFD was released).

Furthermore, Kurt Cobain bummed a smoke off that same guy, at the same place. This all happened in Calgary, Alberta, of all places.

Pick which instance you would remember most....

well this is sort of off topic.
but i got my Les Paul signed by slash at a VR concert Backstage last year or so, i asked him to do the skull he had in that black Les Paul he used in Paris in 92. he signed below Slash VR '05.
how much do you think that's worth on top of the guitar's price? btw it's an epiphone Les Paul Standard with seymour duncun and schaller tunners.

PS i do have pics to proove it's not a fake. someone took pics of slash while he was signing it.
i'm not trying to get rid of the guitar, but i do have to wonder if i'd get a good deal...

Ok this is off topic but well...

If you can document the autographs authencity...well, the last Les Paul signed by Slash (also with pictures to prove) went off eBay for several thousand Euros if I remember correctly. I even posted a link to that auction in the VR section, it might still be on this board if you wanna check it out the auction was not too long ago. Don't quote me on the price though, all I remember is that it was an insane amount of money. I think it was his signature modell wich is a pretty expensive guitar anyway. An autograph is one thing, but an autographed instrument is something else. To some people that is. I would never pay money for any autograph.

A girl I was dating bought me sheet music to "Live And Let Die" by Wings, signed by Axl.  She got it on Ebay.  I don't know if it's real, but it's hanging on my wall.  It's also got some Bolivia Axl stamp or something in it.  Interesting piece, now that I think about it.

As a former sports autograph dealer on eBay, I greatly take offense to this statement.  Most of what I've seen on eBay is real.  Once in a while, there are fakes, but if you know EXACTLY what to look for (the problem is most don't know what to look for), you're all set.

Sorry to bring back this dinosaur of a topic, but I didn't see the question posed to me.  There are certain elements in a signature to look for-- ink blots in wrong spots (e.g.-- other than at the beginning of a pen stroke) are a dead giveaway.  The way certain letters are curved can also be a giveaway, however it is not certain-- every signature a person writes is different.

You can never be 100% certain the autograph you get is real.  Hell, even ones you get in the mail have a good chance of being fake.  The only way you can know is to get it yourself, in person.  The best you can do when it comes to buying is to buy from reputable dealers.  I only buy from people I know or if I can verify likely authenticity by my own judgement.  I've seen some Wayne Gretzky signatures on eBay that are absolutely laughable.  Want some obvious fakes?  Check out the eBay screenname go_leafs_go!!

That being said, buy only from reputable sources if you have to buy autographs.  Get stuff done in person if you can.  Trust no more than half of what you get in the mail.

My buddy just gave me an autographed pic. of the original band including steven. Its awsome, axls signiture stands out at the very top middle away from the others, who all signed over themselves.  It came with a certificate of authenticity from Finest Memorabilia. This pic is from one of the 88 photo shoots where izzy and slash have the paper bag over their drinks and axl has a coke can.
