Wow thanks for posting that! One of the better versions of Madagascar for sure.

I love the change in vocals at the end! I also love the changes in Shackler's recently.

I can't help to think Axl was not finished with CD yet and the released was forced and/or rushed

You think that based on some changes that he made to a vocal part during a live show 2 years before the album was released?

Yes. I beleive Axl is not satisfied with the release for many reasons. What about the recent change of melody in Shacklers?

Chief...

I was AT that show  smoking

It was epic.

The band were delayed. It was the first gig after the massive Rio IV in Lisboa, Portugal, and Axl was seeing a back specialist in Milan. He was flying in and delayed. The band then had tech issues. The crowd was very drunk and about 1/4 left (!)... then at 23:31 the intro started... and the band kicked everyones ass.

Lots of gold from this show. Dizzy and Axl joke about Hungarian folksongs several places. Robin is ON fire. Axl does this incredible version of Madagascar. And the final run (last three or four) of songs were jawdropping. Great, great show. One of the best of the 2006 leg that I have heard.

I was lucky to witness this as my then girlfriend (now wife) and I flew down to Budapest for a mini-vacation planned around this gig.

I think he's finding different ways of singing the material as he works it out in a live setting, which is different than singing in the studio. He's been doing that from the early days, plus there are a ton of vocal parts on Shackler's. He's trying to incorporate the best from a number of parts into one cohesive melody. I'm also surprised to see someone say that he isn't happy with the release, considering that he has said the opposite on more than one occasion and certainly showed no inclination to release the album before he was happy with it.

From the Billboard interview:

All that aside, it's the right record and I couldn't ask for more in that regard. Could have been a more enjoyable journey, but it's there now. The art comes first. It dictates if not the course [then] the destination artistically.

While I agree with you, tons of bands down the road talk about how they would have liked to have done this song differently, or left this song off the album altogether, etc. It's probably only natural after performing your own material for years and years. I vaguely recall Axl talking about Breakdown in particular and how he felt it was rushed and there was a lot more he could have done with it well after Use Your Illusion came out.

So while Axl and Guns' might be 100% completely satisfied with Chinese Democracy right now, I don't think it's completely out of the realm of possibility that down the road they might feel they could maybe have approached a song or two from a different angle. For example, I'm thinking of Frank's badass drum intro missing from the studio version of Scraped.

IMO this is the only thing stopping CD from being a perfect album.

Well, that and the fact that Axl's unhappy with it because he was rushed to finish it, right?  Wink

Axl wasn't unhappy with the album, you pulled that out of the sky. He wasn't pleased with the booket, but that's all.
