I agree that COMA is the ultimate level of surprise - and I totally love it being added to the set.
Still I totally get why people would like to hear some VR or Conspirators tunes. Why not?
I'd love to hear the Dissident, By the sword or Lock n load (hey considering that one - we would have the guitar part fixed already...😂)

Maybe for a one-off solo, I'd love to hear Slash play Ballad of Death.

1.  I really like that song.
2.  I always thought it was a song that, if Axl added lyrics to it, would easily fit in as a GNR style song.
3.  It would totally fuck with everyone's mind if Slash did a cover of an Ashba song.

3) it would....😝 but don't get me wrong - why on earth should Slash play a DJ solo???  Roll Eyes

Besides the THREE reasons I already gave, a fourth reason would be that Slash doesn't seem to have any issues recognizing/playing really good material that he had no hand in writing himself.

It's kind of pathetic that some of you seem to be of the opinion that Slash is so egotistical and/or shallow that you think he would refuse to or can't appreciate, acknowledge and perform good songs written by other artists.

He's already proven wrong those of you who think that way.

Slash playing Chinese Democracy songs is something he had to do to appease Axl to be in the band again. Him refusing to do so...would have been a non starter.

Slash didn't like those songs 20 years ago... hes not playing them now because he now realizes they are masterpieces. He had to play them and I sure am glad he is.

Playing something DJ Ashba wrote... isn't in the same ball park or a fair comparison.

Exactly, it would be the equivalent of Dj playing a Slash solo song during his solo spot when he was in GN'R.

It didn't happen, and Slash will never play a Dj solo song in a GN'R set.

Oh save it. They are only playing 3-4 CD songs so far for a reason people. Relax, and it is more like welcome to Slash back instead of Slash welcome to CD era lol

Slash calls Guns N' Roses' Chinese Democracy "a great statement"
By Joe Bosso September 08, 2008

MusicRadar users voted Axl Rose as the best vocalist to join Velvet Revolver. And perhaps Slash is in agreement - the guitarist has surprisingly kind words for Chinese Democracy, the Guns N' Roses album Axl has labored over for well over a decade. Maybe he wouldn't mind playing the songs live.

"I already listened to it," Slash revealed during a recent interview. "At first I thought that I would never listen to it until it's released, but someone handed it to me and I was in my car and I was like 'Okay, let's give it a try.'

"So I listened to it: It's a really good record. It's very different from what the original Guns N' Roses sounded like, but it's a great statement by Axl. Now you understand where he was heading all this time. It's a record that the original Guns N' Roses could never possibly make. And at the same time it just shows you how brilliant Axl is. So it was a relief for me to actually hear it."

Nine tracks off the album have already been leaked onto the Internet, and Slash had harsh words for the perpetrator. "When somebody takes somebody's work and releases it prematurely just to become famous, it's an incredibly selfish and criminal thing to do. A record is a piece of art. And it shouldn't be released until the creator decides to release it - and I don't care how long it took to make it."

While Slash remains staunchy committed to Velvet Revolver and their search for a new lead singer, he looked back fondly at his early GN'R days.

"I think what was great about Guns N' Roses is that we made it on our own integrity and we didn't give up anything to anybody and made it on our own merit. The early gigs didn't pay well at all. We actually looked forward to getting paid after a gig, but it was usually for the beer. I kept a straight job for a while."

On the subject of current bands, Slash cast a dim view on their need for instant stardom. "Everybody else is making compromises and concessions so that they can make it big and get their picture on the cover of Teen Beat or Us Weekly or whatever. There's a sort of, kind of, selling out to that."

Yes I am aware that Slash has met DJ before...

It was a joke...because people got sooooo upset when Slash didn't seem to know Tommy's name. That he was so evil for making such a passive aggressive remark about the GNR bass player.

I'm also aware of all of those comments Slash made about CD when he heard it. It doesn't change the fact that Slash didn't want much to do with those songs at the time.

It also has nothing to do with why Slash is on board and playing those songs now.

Let's get back to arguing about how they should play GNR only! (Except for the fact that they always play covers)  Smiley

I know people take offense to the idea...because maybe Axl would or something i don't know... but ALOTTTTT of GNR fans became VR fans and therefore really like that stuff... for a lot of us it would be cool to see. That's all. Don't expect it or anything.

Shouldn't be a blood feud.

I was unaware that Slash didn't seem to know Tommy's name. (kind of surprised because Tommy was really famous well before GNR).

Is it really so hard to admit that the reason Slash "agreed" to play the CD songs are because they are really good songs and they are in fact Guns N' Roses songs.

I have no clue if Slash thinks they are really good or not... common sense says he doesn't... but maybe now he does .. I don't know.

They are GNR songs... because GNR is whatever Axl says it is. So if Slash wants to be a part of GNR .. he's gotta play whatever Axl wants.. lets be honest.

Still don't know how Ballad of Death equates here. Ha.

The argument is starting a petition about getting Axl to do a VR song.

I don't see why Axl would have any issues about doing a VR song if Slash and Duff really wanted one to be included in a set.  Axl doesn't seem to have any issues about doing (what would be for him) cover songs.

IMO, if it's about doing a tribute to Scott (God rest his soul), I think a more appropriate thing to do would be for Axl to briefly include an STP song in his piano solo before NR that everyone can join in on.

I agree the whole petition thing is stupid.

However I have seen a lot of people say GNR songs only! Which is a head scratcher.

I honestly DO NOT believe that Slash is that much of a pussy that he only plays those songs because he's afraid Axl wouldn't let him rejoin GNR otherwise.

Still don't know how Ballad of Death equates here. Ha.
As I stated when I originally brought it up, I think it's a really good song and would get a kick out of Slash fucking with peoples minds if he played it.

Axl, NuGuns, GNR, Guns N' Roses-  whatever label you want to give them over the past 16 years have seldom disappointed in variety in the setlists. I have gone to my share of Guns shows in the NY/NJ/Tristate area, and have never really left disappointed. Some shows were better than others(the four Hammerstein shows in '06 stand out), and Axl's vocals were a mixed bag, but for the most part the variety in the sets have been a strong suit of the band. From new songs, to great covers, to digging up some old classics and some guest singers from time to time.

Maybe in time we'll get a few more surprises? I have no doubt there are some in store for this monumental tour.
