I dunno. Lemme go find one, sign up, tell them I don't wanna be in the fan club anymore, and he'll be there about 20 minutes later.  rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant rant

Seriously. That sucks.

Great read though. It's good to see Axl coming and talking to all of us (except me, who picked that single day to be angry at the band....). Thanks Axl. Feel free to stick around for a while. We don't bite (Well...Christos does)

RazZ

Oh....and by the way. Ya couldn't mention something like "RazZ doesn't have a full copy of Checkmate...never has, never will"Huh

Was that too much to ask. From now on, every email I get about the subject, I'm just gonna forward it to BBF, and I'll ask him to print em all for ya....lol.

How exactly do you ask Axl a question? Is it like pm him when he logs on? Or is there a thread of them? Hows it going down?

I wish someone would have asked about B-sides on any of the upcoming singles... Are we going to get any new songs as b-sides???

That's about the only question I can think of that wasn't asked that I am interested in. Good questions btw to those that asked them...

Axl, I'd just like to say I feel that you have captured the mood and feel of J.D Sallinger's 'The Catcher In The Rye' perfectly. Why did you chose this book to reference as regards to Chinese Democracy. On a related note, What are your five favourite books?

Quote
Quote from: Dexter @ CD.com

Ok, I've never actually tried to put this into words this way before and this'll probably get me in trouble with someone but here goes...

The piano started while watching a documentary or A&E type show on Chapman and wanting to write something for Lennon and his family.

W/the book it started as fascination and curiosity with Holden Caufield Syndrome and what was or could possibly be in the book that obviously certain vulnerable people have seemed to become so passionate about and resort to outrageous public attempts or acts of violence. That and the question most have in regard to Lennon's death...why?

Can't say I have those answers but I feel our song pays the emotional tribute to John Lennon in the end that I'd wanted to write since the night he was killed and also since first listening to Elton and Bernie's Empty Garden.

I read the book. I fell into a deep dark sleep. Went to the studio and sang as a joke what I refer to as the Holden parts off the top of my head and felt at the time at least imo I had stumbled on a way of thinking that had a pattern and a flow but was broken up like a television station going out and coming back slightly off course intermittently and not making sense with it's earlier portion.

Where this unease helped to justify or even demand taking action and feeling the power of taking that action against whoever your mind felt was somehow involved or the root of this unease and alienation.  Accompanied by a calming surreal almost religious (but totally insane) vibe I think that if some were to experience having limited capabilities, insecurities or are mentally and emotionally challenged in some way could find a false sense of solace and take comfort in like being on some type of drugs or meds but with an added completely false sense of an imagined calling or purpose.

It certainly could and very well often would feel better than some individuals real world or having to experience or live with a clearer perspective of their true reality...

All of which of course could be imagined and hooked together by events like Lennon's murder, reading the book, wanting to write a song about someone being insane, John Lennon, Chapman, people shooting people and watching Mel Gibson's Conspiracy!  Grin

And when I got home not in any dramatic way but more like cleaning off the dinner table I threw my book away.

Don't know if any of that's really what any of that's about but that's how it hit me and just like an instant cake we got the basis for a song.  Tongue

The Stand, A Scanner Darkly, The Mutant King, The Zodiac, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

Okay.  So ?they? say it?s the intent of every great artist that their work be ?mind provoking? so this reply got my mind provoked enough where I thought to myself ?oooohhh, is that what this is all about??

Gypsy Disclaimer:  This is all just me ?connecting the dots? in my own mind.  I am probably waaaaaaaaaaaaaay off-base in everything I?m about to say so maybe I should apologize to Axl right up front ??. but I?m gonna say it anyways.

Seems just like the rest of us, Axl is fascinated by the ?darker side? of life ? real and fictional ..... Mark David Chapman ? Charlie Manson ? The Sopranos ? Dexter ? etc.  Just look at his 5 fav books ?..

by-the-by:  hi Del, loved your book wave  I thought Tale of Two Heroines was one of the most beautiful stories I ever read because to me it symbolized the ultimate love a mother has for her child.  Other people I know who read it did not even remotely get that from the story hihi ..... but I digress...

So anyways ..... aren?t most of us fascinated by these same people/events?  So psychologically speaking, doesn?t that make Axl ?normal? but because of the persona (perceived or otherwise) the media and to some extent he himself embraced, he?s made out to be this tyrannical/evil (in a good way)/bad-boy rock-star that draws us to him in much the same way we root for a ?Dexter??  Maybe in his mind?s eye Axl doesn?t fully realize that?s sorta kinda the connection we?re making because he has the talent/ways/means to express his ?fascination? through his music but he?s also caught up in the ?business world? issues that have been delaying his outlet.

I remember feeling disappointed when I found out that in real life Buckethead doesn?t actually believe he?s Buckethead.  It?s all an act that because of his talent he was able to take to the extreme.  Unlike what Axl does which is convey outwardly though his talents his/our inner ?whatever?.

Which brings me to Robin.  I always got the impression that Robin doesn?t quite ?get? this inner/outward expression that is Axl and how it was intertwined with delays of the business issues.

IMO, Bumblefoot is the one everyone should be ascared of!!! What?s he trying to hide behind that ?fan-friendly? image?  nervous

Axl, do you think This I Love is still the heaviest thing you've written, or has another song popped up that now holds that title?

That's still it and ultimately a great healing experience to compose something you have no real idea you're capable of such as the bridge. It's a lot more intricate than I think most realize yet as the guitar and vocals are placed as they should be so dominant. The main string melody in that section I had originally written to a hip-hop loop as well.

My first thought on hearing the song was that it's lavish.  Then I come here and read remarks about how simplistic it is, and I was puzzled. It's nice to know it was conceived of as 'intricate'.

I question whether or not The General is actually Checkmate, just because Checkmate showed up the same time as Catcher, and from sound/recording quality sounded like it was from the same source.  The General is a song that was originally created by Brain, so it seems like it must be from later than that.  Who knows, could be wrong but Checkmate sounds like it predates the 2000 lineup.  For some reason I got the feeling that Checkmate is actually Atlas Shrugged, because the Classic Rock guys said that Atlas Shrugged had Brian May on it, and the vocals/recording quality on Checkmate sound like the original Catcher leak
atlas shrugged is a ballad
i dont think the general is checkmate

i remember in the 2002.. someone said that the general was played in the BH solo every show (the part with military drums.. and eerie guitars) and that person was trustable..
but then another person asked brain about it and he said that.. they didnt play any new song as a intro or instrumental in the tours (lying because now we know they played prostitute and if the world)

so now i think the part of the BH solo is a part of the general
