I was just wondering what do people on this board is the better album from the Illusion era. I personally think UYI II is the one I prefer its a lot more mellow and has some great songs on it of course. I think this will end up in Dead Horse but hey.

This should have been posted in dead horse (as you wrote)...

Before, I always liked II better than I, but right now, I like I more..

I has killers like Coma, Nov. Rain, Right next door to hell (That is a GREAT song! ok ), and live and let die, to mention a few.

II have songs that I don't like, like my world, shotgun blues and KOHD (I think its very overrated, at least the studio version...)

Well, my opinion..  Smiley

UYI II is the better album IMO.

UYI has the more epic songs and the better written songs, for the most part UYI I Juts has nov rain and coma that really stand out while UYI II has 14 years, breakdown, estranged, locomotive, YCMB, and civil war just to name a few.

Before all my posts about subjective matters there should be an IMO before the post. I took this sig down but of course it has to go back up.

I love them both and it's tough to choose, but I have to go with Use Your Illusion II.

A Dead Horse thread yeah, but hey beats talking about Axl's cheeks, eyebrows, braids and stuff. Funny how such a Dead Horse thread we have all seen hundreds of times can be so refreshing!

UYI II for me.. I dont overly like the studio version of KOHD.. but I can play the album out loud all the way through and dig each song, until the last track  hihi

Damn it.. now im not going to bed until midnight.. I have to listen to it now!  rant

II for me. There are more rockers on UYI1 but the better in depth songs are on 2. And they have my favorite rockers off both UYI albums, 14 Years and YCBM.

I for me. II has some songs that are not my favourites, such as Yesterdays, So Fine, Get in the ring, Shotgun blues, the terrible studio version of KOHD and Don't Cry 2 (I think one DC would have been enough for the UYI albums).

On II there are really genius but underrate songs, like Bad Apples, The Garden, Garden Of Eden, Double Talkin' Jive, Back Off Bitch, Perfect Crime, Dust N' Bones, not to mention Coma.

Sum: maybe most of the best UYI tracks are on UYI II, but I find too much songs that are not fillers, but not real genius GN'R songs there, too. So I go for UYI I.

I prefer UYI2.
The best it is if it was one album with the best songs from both and then the rest to be released as a bonus Disc later.

I know the majority seem to like UYI 2 more but, If I had to choose between the two, Im going with UYI 1.

It may not have the best songs of the UYI's...but it doesnt have the couple songs that are just offensive to my ears (and Im not referring to the language). There is shit on UYI 2 that I cant fucking stand. The end of Breakdown, fucking pisses me off so fucking much because I like the first half and it ruins it. I fucking hate the gay ass Get In The Ring amateurish bully shit (that is way more sorry and gay than anything I have heard from Eminem). The GNR version featured on 2 of KOHD, I really don't like either. I actually dig My World.

But the first UYI album, is a more balls to the wall appropriate evolution for Guns N' Fuckin' Roses. They are a rock band, and they should be kicking our ass. And UYI 1 is way more kick ass as a whole and with its flow, thant UYI 2. So I, without hesitation, pick UYI 1 as the better album.

Only Coma and November Rain?Huh

What about Don't Cry, Right Next Door to Hell, Dead Horse, The Garden, Live and Let Die (Better Cover than KOHD, IMO), Bad Obsession, You Aint the First, Dust and Bones..........

For me II gets too watered down with songs like My World and Shotgun Blues

I've preferred II since I first heard the You Could Be Mine/Civil War single.

I don't much like Shotgun Blues, Get In The Ring, or My World... but the other songs more than make up for it.

I prefer the Alternate Don't Cry, and you can't beat Estranged.

So it's Use Your Illusion 2 for me.   ok

Im really into the Illusions again now.. ive been listening to live bootlegs for so long that I'm beginning to get back into the studio tracks.

Some great songs to play really loud.. Right Next Door To Hell.. Perfect Crime.. YCBM, Get In The Ring, Shotgun Blues, Double Talkin' Jive!

How they came up with that studio version of KOHD after playing it live so well and rocking hard with it so many times, I really don't know.

I'd pick UYI1 over UYI2, it just seems more grittier and rocking, UYI2 is a little too accessible/mainstream rock for my liking.

That said, I still love them both every bit as when I first bought them and are two of the best albums I own.

UYI I by a country mile.

Great songs such as:

Right Next Door To Hell
Live And Let Die
Don't Cry
Bad Obsession (most underrated GnR song)
Double Talkin' Jive
November Rain
The Garden
Garden Of Eden
Don't Damn Me
Dead Horse
Coma

How can it not be better?

UYI 1 is definately the rawer and grittier album of the twins, while UYI 2 has a majority of tracks reaching the, and over the 6 minute mark, and is to me an album full of rock epics and ballad epics. Personally I love both of the albums but I definately prefer UYI 2, just because I love and am still amazed by every song on the album except of course for My World. UYI 1 just never did grow on me as much as UYI 2 did. Dont get me wrong I love that album as well, but it just seems like its got alot of filler on it, with the gems of the album being Double Talking Jive, November Rain, and Coma.

UYI II, definitely.

Civil War, 14 Years, Yesterdays, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Breakdown, Estranged, You Could Be Mine...

All of these are absolutely fantastic. I even enjoy the questionable closer, My World.  Shocked

Overall, the album just seems like it has more to it, and UYI I gets quite repetitive after a while, with average lyrics on many songs and not quite as much creativity (The Garden and Double Talkin' Jive are notable exceptions; Those songs rock.)

For me that really is a tough question to answer.  Seeming how as my favourite between the two is always changing, It really depends on my mood.  Both cds have awesome songs, my favourite song is on Use Your Illusion 2 tho.  I love the studio version of Knocking on Heaven's Door, but in general as a whole I think Use Your Illusion 1 does have more good songs than the second, really I think it just depends all in the mood I am.  Could you imagine how insanely good and classic of an album this could have been if Guns had taken all the best material and put it on one disc...

I've been asking myself this question for many, many years and I still haven't found an answer! Whenever I start loving one of them more, the other kicks me in the ass with something I haven't noticed before. I say let them be and don't try comparing

Use Your Illusion 2 is the best.

And, Shotgun Blues is a GREAT SONG.

Locotomotive, Civil War, 14 Years, Estranged, You Could Be Mine, Yesterdays etc.

Things I don't like about the album?  I don't want the alternate Don't Cry On There.  I don't want So Fine on there.  I don't like some of the electronic garbage in the songs.  Like the phone dialing shit on KOHD, and "we fill that vaccuum" stuff in Civil War and other examples.

But, it is an amazing album.

UY1

Also, Coma is overrated and I don't get how some people can call it a masterpiece or put it on the same level as other songs.

Dust N Bones I could live without.  Bad Obsession, Double Talkin Jive, The Garden Of Eden sucks, etc etc .  UY1 has a lot of material that doesn't interest me.

It's hard to decide because the albums are pretty different sounding.  I guess I like 2 a little better because I like the best songs on that disc better than the best songs on 1, but 1 doesn't really have any songs I skip while 2 has a couple that I almost always pass on, Get In The Ring and My World.  But songs like 14 Years, Estranged, Civil War, and You Could Be Mine make up for that.

I think both albums are good but I like UYI II better clearly because of You Could Be Mine. But, also because of songs like Civil War, Knocking On Heavens Door, Get in The Ring, Shotgun Blues and Pretty Tied Up.

But, I like UYI I too for songs like Don't Cry, You Ain't The 1st, Bad Obession and Don't Damn Me.

They are both amazing albums, but I like Use Your Illusion I better.  First of all, there are two more songs (16 to 14).  Secondly, it's a more "Guns N' Roses" album with more songs that had input of Izzy Stradlin, the best songwriter in the band.  Live and Let Die is a better cover than Knockin' On Heaven's Door.  Dead Horse is one of their best rockers, along with Double Talkin' Jive and Don't Damn Me.  Don't Cry is a great ballad.  November Rain is one of their top five songs of all time.  And, songs like Perfect Crime, Bad Obsession, and Right Next Door to Hell are great.  Let me not forget Dust N' Bones (this is one of the most underrated songs of all time).  Not to say II isn't great, with Civil War, Estranged, You Could Be Mine, Pretty Tied Up, 14 Years, and KOHD.  But Get in the Ring, Shotgun Blues, and My World are their three worst songs ever, plus the alternate version of Don't Cry isn't as good or original.
