Original Post below................

MIAMI

29/04/2007 : Official Update From Izzy.

Izzy Stradlin would like to inform all fans that a new album is on the way ~ expect to see "MIAMI" cropping up on iTunes sometime between May and June 2007.

The album, featuring 11 tracks recorded at Criteria Studios in Miami, is described by guitarist Rick Richards as being "a bit of a departure from "Like A Dog" but still quite a rocker!"

Izzy will be trying his best to keep the fans informed of the pending release, stating "I've just finished sending new CD "MIAMI" to iTunes." Izzy has also offered to share one song with the fans directly through ChopAway.com adding: "...to share with the fans until it is actually up on iTunes, there is a ragga song. It's called "fso ragga" ~ and it can be downloaded from the front page of ChopAway.com. A sample of the opening track, entitled 'TJ' can be found at the same location.

The album is an exclusive 'iTunes only' release, which will be available in USA, Canada, Japan, Australia and Europe simultaneously. As no physical CD release is planned, that we know of anyway, we are strongly suggesting that all fans download a copy of iTunes in order to get the album. "MIAMI" features the regular lineup of Izzy Stradlin on vocals and guitar, Rick Richards taking lead guitar, and Taz Bentley on drums. JT Longoria, who appeared on several "Like A Dog" tracks returns to cover bass duties on the album, and friend Joey Huffman takes keyboards.

Taz Bentley, who appears on all of Izzys solo albums dating from 1998 - 2007 recalled the recording sessions for "MIAMI": "We had such a good time recording this one. We did it before Christmas and when we got back home decided it was so much fun that we should go back and do some more." Describing the sound of the forthcoming album Taz added: "This recording is more loose. We spent time jamming the songs out a pinch more than normal. I was in a great place mentally so I think that carried over into the recordings. Izzy, Rick and I found a hole in the wall cuban restaurant that we would walk to every day for lunch. The vibe was relaxed and the songs are as strong and diverse as always."

To keep the fans happy before the album is officially released, Izzy sent along the following message: "In a few days I'll be sending more clips. Probably from the songs "Buildings In The Sky", and "Let Go". " Izzy has also included the album artwork, for fans to take a look at, whilst he also mentioned the origin of the artwork, with Izzy saying: "....Picture with no print....cool!...I shot it in an abandoned steelmill in Ajo, Arizona last week......"

"MIAMI" continues Izzys prolific run of album releases. Starting in 1998 with the scorchin' 117? on Geffen Records, he followed up with Ride On in 1999, River in 2001, On Down The Road in 2002, and finally Like A Dog in 2005.

A very welcome update for the fans I'm sure ~ Izzy signed off with a simple "laters... Izzy".

Note to admins - You can of course run this news on HTGTH.com but please do not hotlink to the files posted on ChopAway.com Cool Thanks.....

the TJ clip was pretty good, but I didn't  like the FSO Ragga clip- the song seemed to go nowhere.

I think a few fans might agree on that one ~ his reggae music never seems to go down too well. I always thought it was cool though  beer

Great news!  So he titled it Miami  because they recorded it in Miami?  Izzy is a funny guy.

Any plans to tour in support of the album?  beer

All of Izzys solo records are named after a song on the album so presumably it is a song name. If there is no song called "Miami" then it is probably due to the fans always referring to it as "The Miami Album"  hihi

No details of a tour as yet - I only know what I posted already I'm afraid

I like Izzy's solo albums a lot...

That said, I hate this fucking i-tunes shit, and the import shit before that.

The last Izzy album you could buy in a store was 117*.

Why can't he just release his music in the States, so fans can just pick up his albums at Best Buy.

This fucking blows.

He did...and no one bought them.  I bought JJH and 117 when they came out.  The rest I had to hunt for, but it was worth it.  Yes iTunes sucks, but at least it is a new release.  I cannot wait for it to come out.

This will be album #7 out before Axl and CD.

Maybe if he sells enough on iTunes a label will pick it up and print off some albums.

Because labels aren't interested in pressing it. He has tried to find labels in the past, unfortunately there are no "singles material" on the albums so labels wont pick it up.

Its the fans who "fucking blow" ~ you bitch when there isnt a new album, and then you bitch when there is a new album.

Yeah labels aren't interested in someone who doesn't tour and promote heavily. Izzy just wants to write and record.

And it's on iTunes after a lot of people asked and suggested to him to release it online that way right after LAD was put out.. just be glad there's cool new material on it's way Cool

I hope he does tour though, on his own.  Judging from hangin' round with Gnr last year, he obviously has some interest in it, maybe they were shows to test the water, see if he still enjoyed it.

If he does tour, i pray to god that he wil come to the UK, and maybe even to Oxford.  That would be so fuckin cool.  I would definetely go and see him.

Yeah.. when I heard FSO Ragga for the first time immediately I thought of this quote

-Izzy's always been a fan of reggae dude Lee 'Scratch' Perry, "his stuff just floors me, man"-

http://www.chopaway.com/classicrock2001.php

Cause he's no doubt heavily inspired by Lee on this track with the samples and weird trippy sounds Cool

I've been listening to The Clash lately and Izzy reminds me of them in a way.

They weren't just a punk band, they did all kinds of stuff, just like Izzy isn't stuck in doing just the "old blues rock thing".

It'll be interesting to hear the album.

With "MIAMI" soon to be available on iTunes we quickly caught up with Izzy to ask for the tracklist for the upcoming album ~ and to answer some of the fans speculation about the album. Let's begin with the tracklist:

"Ok...

1. TJ
2. Buildings In The Sky
3. Let Go
4. JR's Song
5. Partly Cloudy
6. Waiting
7. Bombs Away
8. Tough Check
9. Pick Up The Phone
10. Everythings Alright
11. FSO Ragga"

You should have already listened to the samples Izzy made available, if not you can download them from the front page of ChopAway.com. We asked Izzy if he could further describe the sounds found on "MIAMI", and here's what he had to say:

"Sure, it's a lot like early solo stuff. It's got a few organs, and key bits you will hear.... Some heavys and a couple balladish tunes, raggae...........".

Izzy also mentioned that he will try to make some new photos available to the fans in the future ~ hopefully before Miami is available on iTunes.

Remember to check back soon for possible further updates whilst we await the albums appearance on iTunes.

Fan Trivia : This is the first solo album that Izzy Stradlin has released where the album title does not come from a song of the same name.

No mention of this yet. The cover artwork (the steelmill photo posted last week) will be available for download in high res, but whether we have back covers sent over etc I dont know.

If not I presume a few fans will be working on putting some together  Smiley

Most of Izzy's solo stuff sounds nothing like those songs. I remember getting his first cd and thinking "This doesn't sound like Dust N' Bones" but it's still really good. Your best bet might be to work backwards. Like A Dog is a TON heavier and more rockin than some of the earlier stuff but you can't go wrong with anything Izzy has ever done. He's just an amazing songwriter. His only album I don't really love is probably River.

^ Yeah, basically there are two type of Izzy solo albums, the JJH album and the others. JJH is very Stonesy and sounds more vintage then the others which have more other incluences aswell, like reggae, surfrock, hardrock, countryrock, blues etc.

Well, this thread started three weeks ago, so I suppose, as a GNR fan, that I must now shit my pants in anger, disavow Izzy, discuss how he's betrayed me, and weep while drinking alone.

Or I'll just check iTunes, and update, saying that the album isn't online, yet.

Izzy said that he got an e-mail from iTunes/TuneCore saying it would take 3 weeks to put the album online, but added 'let's wait and see though'. My guess is is that it will be online next week yes
Does iTunes release new music only on Tuesdays like they do in the regular stores?

I'm not sure about that. Possibly, because UK charts include downloads so it is only fair that all albums go live at the same date. Izzy originally emailed me saying "sometime in May or June", he then said "within  3-4 weeks", finally followed by him saying "3 weeks but we'll wait and see".

Izzy has sent the CD to iTunes so it is out of his hands now. We just have to wait for iTunes to make it go live  Cheesy

Rock on Izz!? beer

Quality, i like that. Better watch out though mate cos you may get a "Karma" point against ya for that one  Cool

I got an email from itunes featuring all the new releases this tuesday and Izzy wasn't on it so i dont think it'll be out this week

Yeh three weeks has passed. Itunes seem to put out new releases every tuesday so maybe next tuesday, 5th June, don't take that as gospel though as i'm just assuming
