i'm no expert , but 5.1 has 5 seperate channels plus the subwoofer (that's the .1) and 7.1 has seven different channels plus the sub.  normal audio has only 2 channels, i think?

I am hoping for a proper DVD-Audio release not the dual-disc crap that has Dolby Digital 5.1(lossy) on the
DVD side.

DVD-Audio with enchanced lossless audio does sound great but a 5.1 recording does have to be mixed properly. I have several DVD-Audio titles and the results vary with some the 5.1 mix adds little to the music, the best one I have is the album Once by finnish band Nightwish, the DVD-Audio version of this makes the cd sound very ordinary. I think it also depends on the type of music as to whether it would really benefit from a 5.1 mix.

I think Chinese Democracy would really benefit from a proper lossless 5.1 mix based on the songs we have heard so far.

I think we can pretty much assume that it will be released on Vinyl, most major rock albums are still released on Vinyl sometimes you just have do a bit of searching to find them. ok

Ive got LA Woman by Tht Doors on DVD-A and it sounds much better. You can hear instrumental parts more clearly that were buried on the stereo CD. However, Jims vocals get a little buried in the mix, so adjusting the center channel was needed.

Id buy CD if it came this way. Id by the other stereo version as well ( cant play DVD- Audio discs in my truck. So GNR would make double on me!

Don't put ideas into Axl's head, he may decide he needs another 5 years to do the surround mixes.  Wink

With all the synth and guitars a 5.1 would be rather cool in the sound field.
