I like A minor more so than C major

« on: August 02, 2005, 12:19:40 AM »

What if we never even got the New Year's shows, or the 2002 shows.

Atleast we got THAT! Maybe that's all Axl was physically and mentally capable of doing. I.....for one....do not think this album is ever happening.

But I just got this overwhelming feeling that we should all be grateful for what Axl gave us in 2002. Maybe THAT was the final chapter. Or atleast Axl got out what he needed to get out. For all intents and purposes, he released a bunch of new songs that we all got to enjoy, and listen to them today as if they are from chinese democracy.

Think about it guys, what would we be saying if we never even got 2002?!?!?

If the New Years shows and the 2002 failed tour never happened, we all would have given up by now. Those few new songs has kept us going for years. Its getting to the point where people are getting fed up with the situation. In the very near future, he needs to either release CD or do another failed tour so he can play a few new songs to be bootlegged.

Live!! From Burning Hills, Wellington...

« Reply #3 on: August 02, 2005, 03:37:39 AM »

well if 2002 was in fact the last artistic gasp, I am very disappointed

Im hoping Axl comes back and does it properly this time (an album would be nice  hihi, then an organised tour thats up to scratch or dont bother at all) - 2002 was a mistake IMO and set the band back a few years

If nothing had happened (incl. 2002), Axls mystery and allure would remain somewhat intact, 2002 destroyed some of the mystery and may lessen the impact when(or if) CD drops

In a way i believe that CD will happen, But he must be thinking that all of the songs he wrote for CD are sort of released already. I think all of these message boards and mp3 sites with live new gnr stuff are playing a huge part in delaying the new album. Afterall, if i personally had shitty demos and live versions of my new material posted all over the net before i released it, Id be spewing and would be wanting to write new songs altogethor.

I believe the same thing. Although he is forgotten once again. Sad, though.  Maybe the last come back will be the checkmate.  ok

There aren't even rumours any more.  Axl has successfully stopped rumour-mongers even thinking about lying about release dates because it's TOO far fetched even for them!!!

Axl, look what you've done!

Sure I`m happy we had the 2001/2002 shows. But I don`t think this is all Axl was planning. To spend the millions on CD and years in the studio....? I think Axl has some issues that he needs to deal with, which is delaying things. Ultimately I think we`ll see GNR back out on the road and a new album, just don`t know when.

I for one hope that we haven't heard the last of him.  He needs to come back to prove to everyone and I think to himself can release this album and do a successfull tour.  Yes, some of you are going to say Axl doesn't need to prove anything but I really think he needs to prove it to himself that he can and will be embraced if he makes his comeback this year.    Or as James said, do another tour so that we can get more boots of new songs hihi

Yea..least we got that but i dont think its the last we hear Guns live. When they get the album out they'll tour. cuz by now if the rest of the guys were to give up on this we would have heard it somewhere, so maybe it will happen on the last quarter of this year october - december 2005!

I might be in the minority, and have stated my opinion on this many times but I truly believe had the 2002 tour never been axed then we would all have the album in our hands by now.. The VMA's followed by the tour had to have some purpose to it. What was he to do? "Hope you enjoyed our 2 month tour but now were going back to the studio for another 3+ years..It doesnt make sense to me at all when people say the tour was to let the band "gel"..they had 2001+ those many long nights in the studio to gel. The tour was called the chinese democracy tour for christ sakes not the "cocktease deluxe" world tour. I think its cancelation did in fact force Axl to retreat back into hiding to go every note hes writtten with a finetooth comb. I truly doubt 2002 is the last chance we had to see Guns in action though, Stinson is one of the most dedicated and passionate musicians out there, hes not gunna latch his wagon to a album that will never see the light of day..but if thats the case i hope he takes it to Axl..prison yard style hihi

AxlsMainMan, very good point. Even though most don't believe it, more things were supposed to happen in 2002. Obviously an album was the main thing. We differ only on the reason for no album. You think it was the failed tour. I think CD got rejected by Interscope, and that rejection caused a domino effect. We are still feeling the effects from it today.

If Axl hadn't wanted to release the album in 2002/early 2003, then why did he name the tour 'Chinese Democracy World Tour'?

I think 2002 was Axl`s plan to get the band on the road to get them used to touring and jelling as a unit before the album came out. Then things fell apart.....

well yea.. Axl's plan was something like that in '02 tour and then in an interview with KISW Seattle before the Tacoma gig he said:

...Ditch: You've really, you've... It sounds like really nurtured relationships with these guys, and the new disc "Chinese Democracy". Umm, do you have any idea when the fruits of those labours will come to harvest?

Axl: Uhh, sometime during the next year...

So it was planned to tour in 2002 release the album in '03 and continue touring with the whole new songs setlist.

Yeah, I kinda believe that too but it's been years since to get it back together.    Let's say it law suits are holding this up, I still don't understand why they can't release a statement saying, officially...GNR is having legal issues the ablum will be officially released in let's say 2007.   Not stringing us every year...  But, this year is the first Merck statement that is somewhat hopefull so lets see if they pull it off.

Well said, Lime.  I think people really over-estimate the public's want for the new album.  Most people don't even know there is a new album in the works.  The only thing that's gonna bring back casual fans is a full-scale reunion with Slash and Co.

Rob, very good point. A few days ago, I went to a bunch of chat rooms to "test the waters" and see what the reaction was to GNR and a new album. It was not good. Most people didn't care. There was also some people who liked them back then but said they had moved on to bands that actually make albums. And there was two guys who started bitching about Philly. One of them was at that "show" and said he would never listen to GNR again. That night in chat was a real eye opener. It made me realize that the release of this album is not going to cause a hysteria when its released like Illusions did.

I was at that show and said the same thing when me and my friends were walking out...that didn't even last through the ride home. hihi    But yeah, most people I talk to say the same thing.  GN'R has basically become 1 of two thing to most people...a joke or completely forgotten.  I doubt there are few people besides the diehards like us on this site that even know anything about CD.

Of course if Chinese Democracy ever were to come out, there would be more people than just die hards that would buy it. But make no mistake it wouldn't set the world on fire or anything like that.

But as things stand now the world outside of this message board bubble couldn't give two shits about an Axl Rose album. Like Rob said, the only thing that would create large scale interest would be a reunion of the classic line up, but that's not happening.

No its not going to cause even a fraction of the hysteria UYI created, that is a given.

What amuses me is these threads where its discussed how many millions it will sell in its first week, the media blitz that will occur, queue's outside record stores, 24/7 blanket CNN coverage etc.. etc.. etc...

The fact of the matter is that CD will succeed or fail solely on it's artistic merits. If it's a good or great album you can expect respectable sales, if not it will fizzle.

The marketing strategy should be a cautious, word of mouth approach. It is laughable to even compare it to the hype and excitment surrounding UYI. At the time of UYI, GNR were the biggest thing the world had seen since Beatlemania. Today, Joe Public doesnt give a rats ass about the return of Axl Rose - yes a GNR reunion would be big news and do big business, but as Im sure Axl is aware, the success of CD will not be judged on how many millions of dollars it earns for shareholders, but rather in 10 years if those who own a copy are still listening to it and talking about it.

There has already been way too much hype heaped on it. IMO that is tantamount to setting it up to fail

One of them was at that "show" and said he would never listen to GNR again. That night in chat was a real eye opener. It made me realize that the release of this album is not going to cause a hysteria when its released like Illusions did.

Exactly, even if it winds up selling a couple million copies, with all the waiting and hype and whatnot the album would still be a bit of a dissapointment in some ways.  And I highly doubt the songs will be good enough to warrant the waiting we've gone through.  CD basically has to be one of the greatest albums of all-time to justify the hype, and I doubt it will be that good if it ever comes out.

Yeah, I think the six years of constant hype is setting us up for a huge letdown. And if there isn't at least a couple 'Big Guns", the media is gonna rip it apart. I think the media will give it a chance, but if there's nothing on it to warrant all the hype, expect bad reviews for CD across the board. Maybe Axl knows it cant live up to the hype, so thats why we're in a perpetual state of "finishing touches".
