I always wanted to know....who wrote the music for the songs...

i know izzy was a primary writer....but lets say for example, (if u play guitar) the part of PC "so far away", the guitar chords go to D to C, and slash plays alittle riff over it. who wrote that.....who wrote the bridge to jungle: E chromatically to B, who wrote the solo chord changes for nightrain, whose idea was it to have a softer part for Its So Easy, who picked the solo chords for the dont cry solo etc. etc. etc. (how about...who wrote the outro to locomotive, some very cool shit!!!!)

is there any place that discusses who wrote what song, and even more specifically, what part of each song.

I have a funny feeling Axl wrote the outro to Locomotive. It just strikes me that way. The song is credited to him and Slash, and it would be easy to assume that Axl wrote the lyrics and Slash wrote the music, like in Coma... but the end of Locomotive strikes me as being very Axl-esque

What I'd like to know is just how much Steven wrote in the songs... I'm sure he came up with the drum parts, but anyone could. I don't think people should be credited for writing songs unless they actually came up with a whole part... not just their own individual instrument. I ask this because in that new interview from Argentina he says that he gets equal pay with the rest of the band besides Axl... If I were Duff or Izzy who actually WROTE most of the songs, that would make me pretty angry.

I believe even the most ardent Popcorn fans would agree, Steven can't really be trusted about anything.

i remember reading how the band divided ?the money.... i think it was a quote of steven vs guns trial...
slash invented this system.. the money was divided and ?they had 4 categories i think lyrics, arrangement, melody and riffs....
i remember that axl had 45% of AFD.....
steven didnt wirte a single note... only played the drum parts so he didnt have too much money and he said if they give him 15% he will leave the band...so axl give a part of his money... i think he originally had 5%

well  steven said in a recent interview  axl 25%
                                                              slash 20%
                                                              duff 20%
                                                              izzy 20%
                                                              steven 15%
these are the numbers for appetite only he said.

the only problem i have with this  is, that steven is the one who said it....
i also remember axl said something about this topic but i`m not sure where.....

Look here: http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/releases/index.html

AFD
"Welcome To The Jungle" - (Music: Slash, Rose / Lyrics: Rose)
"It's So Easy" - (Music: McKagan, Arkeen / Lyrics: McKagan, Arkeen )
"Nightrain" - (Music: Stradlin, McKagan, Rose, Slash / Lyrics: McKagan, Rose)
"Out Ta Get Me" - (Music: Slash, Rose, Stradlin / Lyrics: Rose, Stradlin)
"Mr. Brownstone" - (Music: Stradlin, Slash / Lyrics: Stradlin)
"Paradise City" - (Music: McKagan, Slash, Rose, Stradlin / Lyrics: Rose, McKagan)
"My Michelle" - (Music: Rose, Stradlin / Lyrics: Rose)
"Think About You" - (Music: Stradlin / Lyrics: Stradlin)
"Sweet Child O' Mine" - (Music: Rose, Slash, Stradlin / Lyrics: Rose)
"You're Crazy" - (Music: Slash, Stradlin, Rose / Lyrics: Rose, Stradlin)
"Anything Goes" - (Music: Stradlin, Rose, Weber / Lyrics: Stradlin, Rose)
"Rocket Queen" - (Music: Rose, Slash, Stradlin / Lyrics: Rose)

Music (32 credits)
Rose (9/12 songs) - 28%
Slash (8/12 songs) - 25%
Stradlin (10/12 songs) - 31%
McKagan (3/12 songs) - 10%
Adler (0/12 songs) - 0%
Weber (1/12 songs) - 3%
Arkeen (1/12 songs) - 3%

Lyrics (18 credits)
Rose (9/12 songs) - 50%
Slash (0/12 songs) - 0%
Stradlin (5/12 songs) - 28%
McKagan (3/12 songs) - 17%
Adler (0/12 songs) - 0%
Weber (0/12 songs) - 0%
Arkeen (1/12 songs) - 5%

Total (50% music/50% lyrics)
Axl - 39%
Slash - 12.5%
Stradlin - 29.5%
McKagan - 13.5%
Adler - 0%
Weber - 1.5%
Arkeen - 4%

Of course this theory is assuming if you got a credit for writing a song you had an equal share in it (Axl/Stradlin = 50/50). Intersting that Duff had more credits than Slash Undecided

That formula was discussed in the court case of Adler vs the band. I think Axl had 42% of the writing credits....not exactly sure but it was in that range. It definitely came from the court case.

Maybe they didn't take into account the credits to Arkeen and Weber Huh Not sure. But you make me feel smart cuz i came up with that formula all by my lonesome. hihi

Your damn close! I believe Slash and Axl devised the formula they used in the court case. They were obviously trying to show Steven had as little as input as possible!

I reworked the numbers without Weber and Arkeen and they look like this:

Rose = 42%
Slash = 13%
Stradlin = 32%
McKagan = 14%
Adler = 0% hihi

Wow I'm sooo cool rofl

You know what though. I would say it's a pretty safe bet that Slash did the vast majority of solos, Duff did the vast majority of Bass riffs and Steven did the vast majority of Drum lines. I'm not write sure exactly what constitutes as writing the music for a song. Other than Duff, I can't see any of them sitting at a Drum kit deciding when to hit the High Hat, Snare, etc. you know what i mean?

Izzy and Slash wrote all the guitar parts. Maybe with some input from Duff.

i think the solos, bass lines and drumparts arent included in the worting of the song... they are credited by another thing, but not for writing...

Of course the individual is going to write the part for their own intruments... That's just assumed.
I think "writing" means coming up with the part, or modifying it.

Like if I wrote a song, and someone else added a bridge, or changed the chorus or something.
That's writing.

Coming up with drums and bass is just what you're in the band to do.
