For the longest time, I've always hated television. That is until I discovered The Office. Now I realize that there are some good shows on T.V. (that is until those selfish writers decided to go on strike).

Rules to this thread:
No Survivor, American Idol, or MTV shows.

As far as I know they are not in the can but on hiatus while the strike is on. ?They didn't have enough episodes taped.

It sucks! Sad

Oh I also want to add the Planet Earth series to my favs.  It's amazing!

I really enjoy some of Southpark's episodes, but I believe them and Family Guy are getting stale.

Nip/Tuck is pretty entertaining.

Anyways, ya'll football fans should check out MNF right now. Baltimore is playing impressive.

Out of the past 10 years:
Dexter (Best show going right now...I'm severly addicted to it)
The Office (enjoyed both the US and UK versions)
Extras (The christmas special airs dec. 16th on HBO!!)
House (Going downhill quality wise, but still one of my favs)
South Park
The Mighty Boosh (My ex-girlfriend got me addicted to the Boosh....if you haven't seen Nannageddon, you haven't lived)
Spaced (Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson at their finest)
Seinfeld
King of Queens

Older shows:
Green Acres (Way ahead of it's time, comedy wise)
Monty Python's Flying Circus
Charles In Charge (I used to worship this show)
Benny Hill Show
The Addams Family and the Munsters

And the worst show on television:
That 70's Show.....to me it had the worst possible cast who all annoyed the living hell out of me.? I would rather watch Fran Drescher and Bobcat Goldthwaith do a duet of Endless Love than see Aston Kutcher and Wilder Valderama attempting to be funny.

Anyone watch Freaks & Geeks? Shows how stupid cable networks can be. I mean, who is Seth Rogen? Look at the movies the director/writes have put out since then. The IMDB score is like 9.7/10 for the show.

Right now,
Dexter

Of all time,

Futurama
Simpsons
Seinfeld

It's nice to have so much very high quality series with actual continuous plot structures out there now.

For the longest time, I've always hated television.

I've always hated watching tv from tv.
If we are talking about something that comes with a continuous, complex and very ambitious plot structure(Dexter, Lost etc) I have  NO idea why anyone would bother, or have patience to watch an epiode/a week. It's like sitting  down with a good book. reading 20 pages, putting it down..then returning to it 7 days later for another 20 pages.

Well... Yeah. Kind of. I mean, I definitely agree with you. But Lost? Complex and very ambitious? Do me a lemon. The Wire? Now we're in business. The Wire is like a novel. Much more so than the meandering Lost. Which, I do like by the way. A lot.

The Wire. The greatest show ever made.

Carnivale. Fuck Rome!
The Shield. Probably the best example of a show consistently bettering itself each season.
Arrested Development. Probably the second best show ever cancelled at it's peak.
This Morning With Richard Not Judy. I've been going through them recently. I thought that I'd throw it in there.
X Files. Ideally with Mulder, but Dogget was a fair enough replacement.
Prison Break. One of the most watchable things on at the moment and surely deserving of a mention if only because the makers made what, by all logic, should have been an appalling second season into a fantastic one!, albeit with a rather shitty ending.
Curb Your Enthusiasm. Better than Seinfeld!

To be honest, there are loads.

Oh, and Family Guy is shit. There are moments of gold, sure. But the bollocks far outweighs the quality, in so far as it isn't worth watching.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is my favorite. Funniest show on TV these days.

You know, I liked season 5. A lot. But it was a dip in form, and in all honesty when I found out about the sixth season I wasn't too keen at all. The fifth season was good, but it felt like a show reaching the end of it's run.

I watched season six last week. And fuck me. Easily a contender for best season yet! On this form, Curb could run forever.

Quickly, because I'm compelled to do this but really shouldn't bother ....

Shows I can't miss: Degrassi: The Next Generation, Heroes & Nip/Tuck

Other shows I try and watch when I can: Ghost Hunters, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Journeyman, Reaper & Supernatural

Shows I'd be watching if I still had Showtime but will be forced to buy the DVDs instead: Californication, Dexter & The Tudors

Older or canceled shows: Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, MillenniuM, Seinfeld, Veronica Mars & The X-Files

THE X-FILES!!!!!

and of course a little seinfield and little friends or some Mad about you are quite good shows, but X-files definitely is the best ever, though I disagree with Jim boy here I think Dogget wasn't a good replacement for Mulder it went downhill since he came to the show.

Just watched first 2 seasons of Deadwood.Really liking it..not as much as I should according to few  million people who consider the series greater than anything ever  but..yeah, certainly very good.
Good folks at HBO really know their shit.

What makes Deadwood very memorable would have to a charismatic, dominant, violent asshole named Al Swearengen. He has to be the  best bad guy in history of TV. Well not a real bad guy, rather one of those charismatic  evil bastards you always end up rooting for and feel a little guilty about it later.(Like Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the lambs)

Everyone who enjoys Al Pacino's Tony Montana in Scarface should check Deadwood out just for Swearengen.

.....COCKSUCKERS!

So Journeyman's been cancelled. Nip/Tuck is on a holiday break till mid-January. Heroes is indefinately postponed (thanks, writers). Veronica Mars left us some time ago now ... R.I.P.

TV fucking sucks right now.

Arrested Development...smartest and most rewarding comedy ever.  The Wire comes in a close second.  Sad to see it end after this season, but such a phenomenal, authentic drama.

Current:

Heroes - First time i watched it this show had been hyped up like mad by my friend and i was bored to tears, second time around though, and with a little patience to get through the dull first few episodes and i've loved this show, probably my fave show of the moment, definately taken over for me in the slot i reserved for Lost which my interest has severally dwindled. ?I've heard reports about how the second season has been dull and slow and people haven't liked it and the writer has apologised, personally i don't see why, well not quite. ?I understand some of the new characters are lacking but overall i've still found it really enjoyable and despite some poor introductions, Adam has been brought into it in a fantastic way.
Prison Break - Fun with so many twists it does get a tad silly and the 3rd season just seems like the 1st in a different setting, still it's a laugh.... Cheesy
Desperate Housewives
Nip/Tuck
Supernatural
- More fun no brainer stuff and with a classic rock soundtrack to boot, anything that has an episode centred around the meanings of Blue Oyster Cult albums can't be bad...
Numb3rs
Without a Trace
Rescue Me
Reaper
- Another show in which i found the first episode to be a bit lacking, but i gave it a chance and this show is really funny, and it's another show which utilises classic rocks tunes....
The Shield

Past:

Blackadder
Bottom
Game On
Red Dwarf
Only Fools and Horses
Married With Children
Due South
Avengers
Man from U.N.C.L.E
Baywatch

I could go on forever with this list from the past, i'll leave it at that lil' snippet for now...

i watch way too much tv but here goes

Drama / Action

Heroes (Favourite by Far at the moment)
24
Lost
Californication
Entourage (great show)
Smallville

Comedy

Curb Your Enthusiasm (Genius)
Seinfeld (Classic)
Friends (Classic)
King Of Queens
Family Guy (So random but funny)
My Name Is Earl
Simpsons (Classic)
Futurama
Scrubs (First 4 series were incredible needs to end this season)
Married With Children (i've cried with laughter over it)

Oh and the English Office. I think the American One has become exactly what Ricky Gervais didn't want . . a show that runs and runs and gets thiner and thiner.

I thought the US office was good for 2 seasons and started to lose its way . . still its alot better than alot of crap on TV but if you have never seen the English version . . treat yourselfs

I consider Californication, also one of my favorites, a dark comedy more than a drama. But whatever....

Love A&E, history channel, Home Improvement which I know is old but... earlier mentioned older shows I grew up with such as Green Acres, Sanford and Son, or anything like that.

Great show.  Too Bad they stopped making it.  Ian McShane "AL" won a Golden Globe and was Emmy nominated for his roll.  Supposedly it cost too much to make?  HBO and Deadwood's creator Milch have started the two- 2 hour movies to wrap up all the story lines that was left open.  The show was a big viewing draw and wasn't the most costly for HBO to make so I would guess it was all about HBO not wanting to foot the bill for a 4th. season.  They wanted Milch to finance some of the show.  They did ask for 6 shows instead of a full 12 for a 4th and final season, but Milch said no.  I guess an agreement with HBO and Milch regarding financing the 2 movies came about and the show will have an ending.

Guilty pleasure...Celebrity Apprentice.  Gene Simmons has kicked ass thus far.  Fun stuff.  Booting off the Playboy Playmate Tiffany Fallon after the first episode was disappointing...but it's still mindless fun.  yes

The new American Gladiators is pretty good.. I was a huge fan of the orginal back in the day...

This one has some ups (true to the original, water pits, etc...), and some downs(talk way to much, they shoulda learned from back in the day, that no one wants to hear these losers life stories.. They could fill that crap with an extra event!).. The new events are kinda lame, and they should get rid of "pyramid", and add the event with the big caged balls!!

I don't watch much TV, mainly download BBC stuff if anything. But the best show I've seen in recent times is Life on Mars, hope US TV doesn't ruin it with their version.

Any other Kim Raver fans out there?  Will "Lipstick Jungle" be watchable to the point I can enjoy Miss Raver's amazing looks???  How come she couldn't play a nympho daughter of the Sec. of Defense in 24?

She's attractive, but kind of like Kym/Elisha the character she plays kind of lessens it. I think Nina Myers is the hottest 24 chick, there's something sexy about a woman who might shoot you in the head at any minute.............or maybe I'm just weird  hihi

Nina was one bad-ass bitch, but I wasn't crazy about the short-haired deal.  Chicks who could shoot ya huh?...Dick Cheney in a wig.  Smiley  now that's sexy.  hihi

I don't know.  Physically, Audrey Raines has something...Elisha Cuthbert was nice too.  The chick who jumped from the plane in season 1 was hot as hell too.  ok   Ahhh, what would tv be like without hot chicks?  I don't even want to think about it.  no

PS  I just thought of your perfect chick Tap!  Amy Fisher.  beer

Lost !!!!!!! Starts next week and I'm counting down the days! drool

Other than that, Intervention, Paranormal, South Park, Celebrity Rehab and I love to watch any type of autopsy show especially when someone has been dead for a long time and they find the killer like 20 years later from the dead person's bones. I was kind of liking Dirty Sexy Money but then the strike and it started to suck at times. I wish I could watch Dexter but we don't have Showtime. And weeds but ohwell...

Audrey Raines? Maybe one for the older generation, but no thanks. Mia Kirshner? (... Now. I did have to imdb that. Don't label me obsessed!), now we're talking! She was in seasons 2 and, err, 4 as well, I think.

Favorite tv show would be One Tree Hill

i'm also a big fan of Lost, Heroes, Nip Tuck, Grey's anatomy, the office, family guy and yesterday i saw one episode of Californication and i fucken loved it, it's brilliant, so brilliant in fact that i couldn't stop watching it and i saw the whole first season yesterday from 6 pm to 1 am. it was damn worth it.

i'm gonna check out the show called Extras, i heard it's good.

but yeah, one tree hill tops all of the others for me.

i do gotta say lost is a lot more fun in this 4th season. so much goin on. and i can't wait for a decent season of heroes cuz the last one was cut short.

May I confess to a guilty pleasure?  The Moment of Truth.  A reality show on Fox.  I believe the executive producer is Satan himself.   rofl  These people answer questions in a lie-detector polygraph machine format...and holy cow are the questions shocking.  The more truthful answers to questions, the more money they amass.  But, as they move on, the questions get tougher and tougher and they reveal horrible things.

It's on Fox tonight, 9:00 eastern.  Cheesy

p.s. this is not my favorite show.  My favs. include 24, The Office, The MacGloughlin Group, and Family Guy.   peace
