Richard Fortus to replace Viv Campbell in Thin Lizzy

THIN LIZZY TOUR DATES RUN FROM MAY 30 TO JULY 24

Rock News Desk
GN'R guitarist Richard Fortus played a few tracks with Thin Lizzy in Chicago last week ? and he?ll join the band next month when Vivian Campbell returns to Def Leppard.

Campbell revealed the news after his final US appearance with Phil Lynott?s reactivated band, currently starring original-era members Scott Gorham, Brian Downey and Darren Wharton alongside Campbell, ex-Whitesnake bassist Marco Mendoza and ex-Almighty frontman Ricky Warwick.

Fortus will take over after Lizzy play at Slaine Castle, Ireland, on May 28. Campbell reports: ?Well, that was it: my last US show with Lizzy ? and it was a great one to end on. New guitarist Richard Fortus came and played a couple of songs.

?I have one final gig with them in Ireland, and the very next day we start Def Lep rehearsals.?

If you're waiting...don't. Live your life. That's your responsibility not mine. If it were not to happen you won't have missed a thing. If in fact it does you might get something that works for you.

Vivian Campbell

Well, that was it; my last U.S. show with Lizzy, and Chicago was a great one to end on! I have one, final gig with them at Slane Castle festival in Ireland on May 28th. The very next day we start Def Lep rehearsals. New guitarist, Richard Fortus came and played a couple of songs with us tonight.

THIN LIZZY Recruits GUNS N' ROSES Guitarist For Upcoming Tour - Apr. 3, 2011

Legendary rockers THIN LIZZY have recruited GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Richard Fortus as the temporary replacement for Vivian Campbell, who will return to DEF LEPPARD next month.

Fortus joined THIN LIZZY on stage at the final gig of THIN LIZZY's U.S. tour on April 1 at Vic Theatre in Chicago (see video below) and will take over for Campbell after LIZZY's May 28 concert at Slaine Castle, Ireland. Campbell writes on his Facebook page, "Well, that was it: my last U.S. show with LIZZY ? and it was a great one to end on. New guitarist Richard Fortus came and played a couple of songs. I have one final gig with them in Ireland, and the very next day we start DEF LEP rehearsals."

THIN LIZZY's latest reincarnation includes original-era members Scott Gorham, Brian Downey and Darren Wharton. Also on board are Campbell, former WHITESNAKE bassist Marco Mendoza and ex-THE ALMIGHTY frontman Ricky Warwick.

In a recent interview with Gibson.com, Campbell stated about his involvement with THIN LIZZY, "It's been a tremendous pleasure to tour with THIN LIZZY. Playing with a band that meant so much to me in my formative years has really rekindled my passion for the instrument again. I haven't been this excited about guitar playing since I was in my teens!"

When asked if he would like to be a part of future THIN LIZZY tours, should he be available, Vivian said, "Absolutely! However, I continue to be fully committed to DEF LEPPARD, and we're going to be on the road from June of this year, so LIZZY [will be using] a replacement for me for their continuing summer dates. They have very kindly offered me the opportunity to come back when my schedule with DEF LEPPARD opens up, and you can bet that I'll be there in a heartbeat!"

i don't think axl is a fan of this lineup. Axl and the rest of the world are a fan of Phill Lynott. This is just John Syke's take on Thin Lizzy. has nothing to do with what people love thin lizzy for. Replace the singer and songwriter and there goes the band. either way they have a pretty cool catalogue  to cover.

Richard was also cool enough to play with X Japan, in 2008 I believe.  drool

X Japan are probably my 2nd favourite band, next to GN'R. And I thank Robin and Richard for playing Endless Rain in Asia. So Richard doing this sort of stuff is nothing new, he just loves to keep busy, and what better way.  Smiley

Sykes is not in the band anymore dude.  Another new line up.
Its cool what they do though.  They always put on a cool show.  Everyone knows its not the same without Phil

As far as I can tell, Thin Lizzy is the only band that has not had one member appear consistently in every line-up. Pretty damn crazy.

Brian Downey, one of rock's most underrated drummers, played on all of their studio albums.
Gorham played on the majority of em.

I wanted to catch them when they played in CT last month, but couldn't pass up Jeff Beck who was playing the same night.

Yeah there isn't any one member that has been in every line up.  Although, Scott Gorham has pretty much always been involved since he first joined in the 70's.

They haven't actually released any new music under the name since Phil passed away.  Its basically a tribute band and all the members just enjoy putting on a good show.  (as well as the pay im sure).

I saw them once or twice and they still do put on a rocking show.  I preffered when John Sykes was fronting the band though.  Now they have some little emo kid lol.

They put on a free show at Mohegan Sun Casino. Of course if I had went, it would have turned out to be anything but free, being in a Casino...
Wish they had played Boston. I know it can't really be Thin Lizzy w/o Phil, but I would love to hear some Lizzy songs live.

If I could see any band live, it would be a tough call between original GNR, '73 Stones and Gorham/Robo era Thin Lizzy
