Axl was the last great Rock Star we have seen. And he is still around. He hasn`t died and he`s not too old (yet) to return to prominence. I think that`s part of the reason so many people are waiting for his return.

the only other rock star that can compete to axl after gnr fell apart is pantara phil. im not a big fan of pantars music but they live the rock lifestyle to excess, that seems rare these days

BS..

People like Marilyn Manson and Courtney Love are still flying the "rock star" flag (for better or worse) just fine, and in some cases (through acting and writing) their celebrity has far
surpassed Axl's.

Let's not forget the jurassic rockers like Jagger and Tyler, though old as dirt, still out there doing it with quite a degree of success and notoriety.

I agree. Since Axl, there has not been one *great* frontman. RnR has actually gotten really boring and cliched, it's either teeny-bopper "punk bands", the goths, the druggies, or the "adult rock icons". No one has any spunk anymore. Axl was the last one that embodied what a rock star was with the outrageous behavior, odd clothes, etc. Axl will once again own the world, though.

But that's his gimmick. Axl was real. His attitude was real. Manson just acts like that because "he has the right to" and he likes to cause controversy, simple as that...

WAS!
Do you not mean IS!

But i gotta say- no matter how great he IS  Tongue

Why is it only Slash n' Axl that get the mention!

Not Duff, Izzy, Steven, Dizzy, or even Matt n' Gilby

I mean I could understand why not matt n' gilby- on the Live Era it sells them as "Additional Musicians!"
Now thats gotta hurt!
And Matt was hurt at that!
I think Matt's a Great drummer!
I love Steven he's always been me fave, and i've always really liked but now i think Matt's even taken over Steven!
Both rock!

But I mean I heard {well read} some people's comments about Duff being a "basic player"
When HE IS NOT!
Duff fuckin' rules!!!!!!
And Dizzy, well Dizzy he just rules full stop!!!
He reeks of coolness!

I hear Izzy mention, but Slash always steals his limelight, like all the mags have him as GNR main guitarist!
But face it, Slash need Izzy- they work ever so well together!

They all need each other {or did} they were all great!

Manson and Courtney are rock stars, but not of Jagger and Tyler's magnitude. Manson and Courtney are niche rock stars. Axl was the last rock star to be as huge in his prime as Jagger and Tyler were in their prime. I'm not saying that Manson is not a great artist (can't say the same about Courtney), but he was never all that popular. People like Tyler, Jagger, and Axl were on top of the world at certain points in time.

Falcon I can see what your trying to say.  But, while there have been "rock" stars that carry the same flag as Axl, not one has reached both the status and mass appeal that he did.  There just hasn't been one since he left the scene.  I think it will be a LONG time before another guy like that hits.
