Ok,

So im not a new member, but this is something that has been bothering me for a couple of days....

Ive read back over the History/Timelines on the site and cant find anything.

It basicly says that Gilby was Fired/Quit....

Does anyone know what happened here, i read in a really old issue of Kerrang that he was fired for talking shit about axl...are there any articles that back this up?

Or am i just being a total inbasile and the answer is right in front of my nose?

I found this post:

I think the story goes something like;

Axl: I wanna have a band with 4 guitars

Gilby: I don't think that'll work axl i don't wanna go in that direction

Axl: are you gonna quit?

Gilby: no

Axl: then you're fired

This thread reminded me of a Gilby interview in Kerrang in May 1994 that I never added to the site.

Well, I finally did: http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/articles/showarticle.php?articleid=60

Gilby stated in Spin magazine: "The band was changing and I was the first one dumped.  One day my paychecks stopped coming; I pretty much took that as a hint."

An interesting statetment in that Gilby interview Jarmo posted:

"Slash doesn't like not working. He has to have something to do. And I'm just the same. So that's it."

So that pretty much nixes Axl's story about the other guys not wanting to work.....

Maybe they wanted to work on "Be The Ball" and Axl didn't?

Another really[/i] interesting Gilby's statement:

"Duff and Axl have an idea what the album should be, and the rest of us have another idea. So right now, we're not gonna do anything."[/i]

I didn't know Axl and Duff were on the same page concerning the musical direction of the band (well, until 1997, obviously).

Yeah I did not know that also Axl and Duff wanted to move on. I thought it would say Dizzy also.  Undecided

Like Jarmo said, maybe they wanted to work on "Be The Ball" and Axl did not. I can't picture that being a Guns N' Roses song.  Undecided

RIP Magazine - September 1992

DEL: Is he a "member" of Guns N' Roses?

AXL: This "member" thing is quite interesting, I read in an interview where Matt [Sorum, drummer] said that if he didn't get made a member, he wasn't going to be in Guns N' Roses. The truth of the matter is, Matt's a member of GN'R, but it doesn't really mean anything. It's kind of like a clubhouse/gang thing. We're all members of this gang. What it boils down to is, whose yard is the tree house in? Matt's a member of GN'R, and his opinions are taken into consideration. As far as that's concerned, Gilby is a member too!, Dizzy is a member of the band. With all the background singers, horn players, keyboardists - we look at it like we're all Guns N' Roses. But the bottom line is, the business is basically run by Slash and myself. Then we run whatever it is we're discussing by Duff and see if he's cool with it. Guns N' Roses is basically Slash, Duff, Doug Goldstein and myself!, but there's a lot of other people involved that are a part of our lives and a part of our family.

Doug Goldstein is Guns N' Roses?? Maybe he was back then but he didn't really help the band recently. We never knew why Mercuriadis replaced him by the way...

Maybe Axl will reveal that when the album finally arrives...
He said he was gonna open up about a lot of court battles hes been through in the past 8 or so years....

Would be nice to hear everything from his point of view...

Another really[/i] interesting Gilby's statement:

"Duff and Axl have an idea what the album should be, and the rest of us have another idea. So right now, we're not gonna do anything."[/i]

Interesting...

I wondered about this in the Duff BassPlayer thread.  I believed that since Duff was the last (of the original 5) to leave, he must have been in some agreement with Axl.   And now I have Gilby's statement to back me up.

Perhaps Duff had a change of heart after his pancreas incident.  In any case, I'm happy he was able to recover mentally and physically, and make an album that fits his ideas.

Go Duff!

Yeah some attitude!  Roll Eyes
Yeah letting fans wait 3 friggin hours before they show up on stage!
3 friggin hours to blow dry his hair, whilst Izzy wants to fly on the plane!
Not releasing CD after sooooooooo many years!
God that bugger should be complete by now!
Not turning up at gigs, singing CD in the early hours of the morning with only 5 people in the bloody bar!

Yeahhhhhhh! Axl rocks!
For gods sake!
It aint rock n' roll!
Sex n drugs n music is rock n' roll!
Proper music- like GNR, Jimi, Lenny, Pixies, Sex Pistols, Ramones etc.........

And Gilby was appreciated by Slash, Duff and Matt, Izzy pulled out, they needed a GOOD replacement for the tour that was going to take place!
Gilby did bloody fine! MUCH better than others would!
He was a good replacement- he WAS in GNR before he got "fired" by Mr Rose! So he was a Gunner!
And his solo work supposedly kicks!  yes So Mr Gilby Clarke, deserves to be a Gunner, just check out the bloody UYI's dvds, the two tours if you don't believe me!
He plays well and has the right attitude, he looked damn cool on stage!

Very true he is funyn great on stage. On a short notice he filled in great.  I think Izzy was the best writer. BUt gilby should be a gunner. He doesnt even have an ego about it. He thinks he was just a fill in guy, well I think he a Gunner in my book

Gilby has no interest in being in a band unless he plays lead guitar again.
