Marmite Militia, taking over one piece of toast at a time!!!

And.....Miami goes back on MLB welfare, pocketing luxury tax and revenue sharing money and paying their players nothing.

I suspect the league will send a harshly worded email...which will do exactly nothing.

They need to do more. What needs to be done is banning the Loria family from baseball for life.

Something, I agree.

But that's pretty much what they did with TB a few years ago...sent a joint letter from the league and MLBPA. It was strongly worded.

Now, the Rays fell into line (sort of, kind of)...so we didn't get to see what else the league would do.  But...all things considered...I expect it would have been a big fat nothing.

Was great to see R.A. Dickey win the Cy Young, not just as a Mets fan, but also because of his back story and the fact that he seems to be one of the truly decent guys in baseball (he also won the Branch Rickey Award).

Hope he doesn't get traded now!

Isn't bud buddy buddy with Jeffrey Loria? If so they definitely won't do anything until Bud retires.

Selig is looking into the blockbuster trade, but he should really be looking into the ownership group.

Gotta love RA, happy he won.

A nice year for Mets pitching, Johan's fake no no and a Cy Young. Wink

The Cards are going to do an alt home jersey for Saturday home games, the first time they've actually had the city name on the jersey (home or away) in 80 years.

I personally don't like the idea of alt jerseys in general, most are goofy softball looking.

I'm still not down with it but these do take the sting out of a little I suppose:

Melky to Toronto espn is reporting. 2 years 16 million. If Selig allows that trade on paper Toronto could be very good next season.

My late fathers favorite player of all time, Cards legend and HOF'er Stan "The Man" Musial turns 92 today.

Dad saw The Man hit 4 dingers in a doubleheader one day and was in the stands at Wrigley when Stan hit his 3000th.

Cool stuff.

I'd be happy to see him stay another year or two, given his resurgance last year.  Make the sting of losing Swish a whole lot less.

Longoria locked up by the Rays, very club friendly.

Take note Mets, he's a better player than David Wright.

He is better than Wright, but this will still throw a wrench into negotiations.  Even before this, I doubted the Wilpons would step up and give him a franchise player deal, but now I'm much less confident.  Add to that, I also remain unconvinced that Wright even wants to stay with the Mets --- can't blame him for not wanting to waste what's left of his prime on a perpetually rebuilding, cost-cutting team, whose owner famously devalued him in public.  Let's go Mets.

It appears the Yankees are close to resigning Rivera and Pettitte each to one year deals. The Pettitte deal is said to be around 11 million. No word on how much Rivera's will be. No shock with either guy. We all knew they'd pitch for the Yankees next year or retire. On another note its looking unlikely that Martin will return. He and the Yankees appear to be far apart in negotiations.

Pettite's deal was for close to 12, with 2.5 in bonuses possible.

Mo's deal probably announced today or tomorrow.  Will be right around 15 mill (pretty much the same salary as last year).

Ichiro deal likely announced early next week.  It's pretty much the deal Nikkan already talked about: 1 year, 5 mill + bonuses.

Martin is seriously considering going to the Pirates...it's not a bluff to drive up the Yanks offer.

John Morosi's reporting Rivera deal at 10 mil plus bonuses.

If I'm Cashman I'd hold the door open and wish Martin good luck if the Pirates are gonna give him 3 years...
