I hope the guys hit the stage soon.  Unfortunately no matter if there is a valid reason or not, people will get rubbed the wrong way by the late start.

You should get a job with a newspaper writing reviews of these shows.  You already got their 'bitchin about shit just to bitch' schtick down pat.  ::)

Jesus, you have no idea what you're talking about do you?

I wasn't speaking for myself.  I'm very familiar with Axl and GN'R's M.O.  It doesn't bother me personally.  But, then that's not the point.  I'm not everybody.  Whether you like it or not, the reality is that the late starts DO rub a lot of people the wrong way.

It doesn't matter to most people whether or not there is a valid reason for the late start.  All they will remember is the late start.

The only thing that the band needs to change about these shows is to add in a Chris Pitman solo!!!

IT'S ON!!!!  :headbanger:

He chatted quite a lot at the jp shows tho. I bet keen jp fans learnt more English there than students do from alts in their 9yrs of schooldays.  :-X  Maybe because being at the launch of the tour he was addressing all the fans in the world not just the crowd for the most part.

Merci beaucoup!

Every time I think that I should check out this board because people might be nicer than I remember, I realize that I was right all along. People can't even make constructive feedback without being tarred with the same brush as critics who are being genuinely unfair. I guess some things never change... ::)

constructive or destructive,
i wouldn't urge people who're already doing their best to try even harder.

Quote from: axl tweet
Bein' on the tail end of a 2 on 1 off n' where rt after w/the size of r show was tough on not just us but the crew w/load in' n' out etc. not taken into consideration by others n' all the bts nonsense across the board 4 months w/all sides. Still w/everyone feelin' like bein' on the wrong end of a beatdown the show went good. (Coulda been a lot worse).

i hope the marathon is not draining him out.

You might, if it's for their own good. Personally, I don't care when he goes on - I wouldn't complain about it because I expect it - but we're not going to get a successful tour in the US if the band gets bad press for going on late and I don't think it should be construed as mean-spirited negativity if someone points that out. It doesn't help anyone to deny the facts of the situation, and those facts are that people are not going to be as patient with idiosyncratic behavior in 2010 as they were in 1992.

Title: Re: Quebec City, PQ Discussion

reading his tweet, you don't think axl might be well aware of that and already trying hard?

personally i'd rather see some bad press and the band kicking ass like they have been so far than axl/the band being worn out.

management's good tour scheduling would be desirable, perhaps.

I don't think he's trying that hard, no. And I don't care - it's Axl. He's been my favorite rock star for more than 20 years, and part of that is because he doesn't care what other people think (not to mention the music), and also because he's sometimes tragically self-destructive and I feel for him. Of course, I'd rather see him kicking ass. I don't see how going on at 11:30 instead of 10 is enough of a problem that he doesn't mind costing promoters money, though. That's not doing anything for their reputation as professionals, no matter how good the show is.

And another tour discussion thread gets ruined by useless whining over and over about shit that the band is obviously well aware of.

NEWS FLASH:  WHINING ABOUT IT AIN'T GONNA CHANGE SHIT!!!

It is what it is.  It has been and is continuing to be what it is.  Why?  Because it just is.

What's really fucking hilarious is the one's doing the most whining always include the obligatory "but it doesn't bother me."

Wow, you just don't get it at all.  Not even remotely close to getting it.

It's unfortunate, but the fact of the matter is that the late starts do affect some people's ability to judge the show for the performances.  Not everyone will be pleased despite the band's best efforts, but to say that some of the backlash from the late starts can't be minimized from going on closer to the 10:15-10:30 p.m. time the band was going on at towards the start of the tour is just plain inaccurate.  To simply dismiss this point by calling it whining is just ridiculous.  The reason why it is even brought up is because the fact of the matter is that it isn't reasonable to expect that most people in attendance are as patient and understanding as those of us on this board and others who are familiar with the band's history.

Actually, the thread was ruined by your semi-literate response to the original comment when a civil discussion stating your opinion would have been completely appropriate. I'm thrilled that the band is playing shows, and I think that the clips sound amazing. I'm worried that he's beating up his voice, but so far, he's been amazingly able to control the level of grit, so whatever. I just want them to do well.

You, on the other hand, can get bent.  :)

@Evita

Hey!  :)  I think this is the best stage set up I've seen in a loonggg time.  Because the way it's designed, if you are in the front row, a little bit on the side, you can really have a view of everything, and had the same time, there is more space for people to be closer to the stage.  It's really my favorite GNR stage set up so far.
As for the video screens, I have to say that, except for YCBM, I didn't really take the time to look at it.  And here I am talking of the big screen with all kind of video shots telling some kind of stories, to the little screens on the site showing the band members.  Because really, where I was, I always had someone to look at in front of me, some way or anoter so I had no need to look at the screens.  Altho I have to say I totally dig the fact that we can see Dizzy's and Axl's hands when they are playing the piano.  That's and YCBM, is probably the only thing I really looked at on the screens.
The pyros were great, especially at the start of the show, when you get to have alot of them right at the front of the stage.  Also, at the end, when you have some around the drums and the band members are playing all around it, it's awesome.
And now, after all these shows in the last years, I think Paradise City wouldn't be Paradise City without the confestis flying everywhere!  ;-)

There was alot of different shots from different races.  Like for example, you had Hamilton's championship, the crash between him and Kimi in Montreal in 2008, the crash between Schumacher and Sato a couple of years ago when Schumi gets our of his car to talk to Sato and slaps his helmet, you had Kimi of course, but also Massa.  Cool F1 images!!

Thanks.  And if you don't mind, I have two more questions ...

1.  Are all of the pyros onstage with/near the band?  or are they mostly like on the floor around the outside of the stage?  I seem to recall during a show a few years back that there was an incident involving Richard and Robin where one had to pull the other aside because he was standing on or close to something that was about to go off so I was wondering if they changed that setup.

2.  You mentioned watching Axl's hands on the video screens when it's his turn on the piano.  Does he take off his rings while he's playing?

Thanks again for sharing your experiences here.  :)

Band members seems cautious about where they stand cause most of the pyros were near the band.  The first explosion, for example, takes place all around the front the the stage.  The ones that are close to the drums, DJ Ashba was pretty much under the "flames" playing for a while there.  I even told myself, man, doesn't that hurt him somehow, being that close, I mean it must be hot!

Like Jacaranda said, he takes off most of his rings... and in Montreal, a piano piece (one of the black ones) even came off while he was playing and he threw it on stage, haha!

Yeah, I find all that stuff just so fascinating!!!  I can't imagine all the work that must be involved setting up the stage and the pyros, not to mention all the other techno and electronic equipment and engineering stuff.  Plus getting everyone and everything from one city to the next within a matter of hours.
All those 'behind-the-scene' people do such an amazing job every show!!!

You're right!

I was thinking the samething like for example, between Montreal and Toronto... 2 shows 2 days in a row, Montreal show ends like at 2 something, they have to pack it all up, it's a 5 hours drive if you don't get stuck in traffic, than you have to put it back up... that seems crazy! :)
