Former GUNS N' ROSES Members Join Forces With BOOTSY COLLINS In SCIENCE FICTION - June 11, 2007

Greg Prato of Billboard.com reports that former GUNS N' ROSES members Buckethead (guitar) and Brain (drums) have joined forces with bassist Bootsy Collins in a new project dubbed SCIENCE FICTION.

SCIENCE FACTION's yet-to-be-titled debut (which is being co-produced by Collins and guitarist Greg Hampton) is set for worldwide release early next year, with a tour to follow. Song titles include "L.O.A.F. (Living on Another Frequency)", "Fatally Flawed Flesh", "Neuro World", and a track with a working title of "Living in Eden".

"We're looking at it like, 'What would happen if we wound up a situation down the line as we evolve, that our technology takes over and we are the ones that they're looking at as 'the scum of the earth'," Collins tells Billboard.com. "It's kind of like 'Planet of the Apes.' What would they be like? What would that feel like? We're just trying to warn the world that that's comin', and we're having fun with that."

no, but brain himself has said that he'll be back when the record is out.. and that he will be "rocking out" with gnr sometime in 2007.. right now he's spending time with his family and side projects near his home.. that is what he has said and what is official until he, axl or someone else says otherwise (and by someone else i don't mean some random pesimistic fan :-*)

let's see what mysteron says about this..

i , as well as many other people care because brain is a freakin' all-star. he was there since the re-incarnation of the band and went through the writing, recording, and touring since 2001. he makes the band so much better. i should know. ive been to over 40 "new" gnr shows..the shows with brain were much better, hands down...i hope he is still in the band...his absence from the band for the last 9 months or so can not be a good sign....

Surprise Surprise! I hope this doesnt mean another delay for Chinese Democracy. This is no shock that Brain has moved on. For all I care Brain has had plenty of time to do his family thing and do what he needs to do closer to home. Being a in a rock n roll band that does world tours requires one to not be at home while your on long tours over seas. It wouldnt really bother me if Brain is gone, I'd hate to say we lost another one. I do really like Frank and from all the pics we have seen involving Frank the band and him are a close family. I say keep Frank and give Brain the good old C-YA, Frank has been with this band for a long time now and he deserves the full spot light. And for those who are saying Brain will be back because he has said so lol! All he is doing is  covering his ass from the shit storm the GnR fans will give him and Axl.
All of the confusion and speculations could all be laid to rest if Axl would crawl out of his hole and at least up date US THE FANS! I often wonder anymore why I continue to follow things when all we have to go on are rumors and my friend knows this person and  he has information.  We have not gotten anything official since the open letter to the fans several months ago.

regardless of Brain's status it appears the band is moving on which is obviously a good thing.  I think a back-up drummer is always a good thing, that being said this doesn't mean I'm not attached to Frank.  He drummed at the show I went to and he was awsome.  I think the decision to give brain this time is benficial to himself and the band.  Its allowing them to connect with the band and be a part if this turns out to be a long-term deal.  It is also a good sign that Brain didn't immediatly leave (i.e. buckethead and his stated sporadic behavior) I think brain is more connected to the band than bucket.  As my recollection also comes to me, didn't Frank himself he'd played on 5 tracks for CD? this obviously would make a safer transition for the band as well if things did arise.  I think that Axl is really being cool with this and has developed a good respectable relationship with his bandmates gents!! :peace:

Brain is not coming back.  If he does fine, if he doesnt its cool.  Frank is doing a mighty good job.  Hes bonded with the band and seems more gung ho then brain.  I think that project with bootsy, bucket and brain sounds really fucking cool.  Is there anyone that would ditch GnR after all the shit over the years cause brain is not in the band.

He's not on leave due to his kid though - he decided to take a break until the album comes out - he got sick of playing AFD and wanted to go back playing his own stuff. When the album comes out, it will be up to Axl whether to ask him back or not. That decision may not have been made yet.

Well no, it's a Guns N' Roses discussion board, and yes, we discuss Axl, and other members of GN'R.

However, it doesn't mean we know what any of them would say.

idk though, we do know Frank was added to the album. So, I doubt Axl would kick out/dismiss Frank so easily if/when Brain came back and said (ok I want in now)

I like brain, but in the scheme of things, hes just a drummer. Gnr has gone through what ??? 4-5 drummers. no biggie!! :hihi:

Yeah, it's not as if Brain is one of the most versatile, talented and well-respected drummers in the rock and avante ouvres. I'm sure he brings nothing to the band that Matt "Hulk Smash!" Sorum wasn't pounding out back in the day. You know, because Brain is such an average dime a dozen drummer. Hell, GNR might as well trade him in for an 808. Axl And The Bunnymen.

Play a CD of Brain drumming then play a CD of Frank playing and I guarantee u won't tell the difference.

I have heard nothing he has done in GNR that is irreplaceable.

The live boots I have seen he didnt exactly blow me away.  He is no Tommy Lee,Lars Ulrich,Dave Grohl or Steven Adler.

Before someone says "TECHNICALLY" I could give a fuck about technical Playing. Its what u play not how technical u play it that counts in Rock N Roll.

Did he tell you he's sick of playing AFD personally?  Assuming, aren't we?  A better conspiracy theory would be he's sick of waiting for the album to be dropped.

Play a CD of Brain drumming then play a CD of Frank playing and I guarantee u won't tell the difference.

I dare you to find a recording of Frank playing original material in which the rhythm section is anywhere near as creative as a Praxis record, or a Primus record, or any of Brain's other work. Comparing the two of them playing GNR songs is ludicrous, both Frank and Brain are more than capable of living up to Steven Adler's "high" standards.

Simple question; Given the option who would you rather record with, Brain or Frank? Saying "it doesn't matter, they're both drummers" does a disservice  to both of them.

I can understand people who are nostalgic for the "original" band, but the fascination with Adler's drumming as in the post on the previous page boggles my mind.  Either one of these guys can play the cowbell and count to 4 as well as he could (better if I might add my opinion).  I saw the band twice last year...once with Brain and once with Frank and the positives about both are that they play great and fit in well with the other members.  This is all speculation until Axl or Brain says differently!

I hope to see Brain back on tour with the band at some point.

Not that Frank doesn't do the job well, he rocks too and if it is gonna be Frank from now on, thats cool with me too.    I've seen the band with Brain 3 times and Frank once and both are great performers.     Brain is technically superior, but Frank makes up for it with his attitude and the way he pounds those drums so fucking hard.   some songs I prefer Brain (chinese democracy), some Frank (mr brownstone).

is not big deal..
he is in hiatus
he will come back.. when the record is done and ready to realase
believe me

I really dont like that. If he wants to be in GNR its my opinion he should be in the band full time.

If i was Ferrer Id feel like i got the shitty end of the stick if axl was just like, yeah, we dont need you anymore especially since he is awesome.

Ferrer got the biggest break of his career last year filling in for Brain on the drums.  I highly doubt he feels short changed, and his enthusiasm on stage reflects that.

Its a bit rude for him to say he wont be back until CD is released. Like the rest of the shows aren't important, but as long as he's on the music video and in the national TV appearances he's happy. Its like getting someone else to do your job while you take the day off, and then taking credit for the massive project they complete.

I like both drummers, but I don't like how Brain is handling the situation. Stay at home with the family, fine, but why go off making numerous side projects and such? They must be involving some sort of travel as well.

Maybe they are doing cover songs from AFD? :hihi:

How can you be so certain of what in Brain's mind? assuming aren't you?

If my memory serves me correctly, Brain said he would be coming back.

The live boots I have seen he didnt exactly blow me away.  He is no Tommy Lee,Lars Ulrich,Dave Grohl or Steven Adler.

Are you serious?

And you want to be a professional musician?

Adding to the fact that Tommy Lee isn't really a respectable drummer at all.

In my opinion neither is Adler. Frank is definately better than Steven. Steve had good flow, but there really isnt anything too technical on AFD.

steve has rhythm. when you hear his drumming you KNNOW its adler. hes very distinctive. Just listen to the brownstone intro.

matt sorum couldnt do that stuff...hes like a robot. he hits the SAME cymbol crashes at the same point in EVERY song. I can tell when hes gonna do it.

Frank is a good Rock drummer.

Been a while since I posted around here (you know, since nothing is going on)...but I've got a question for Jarmo.  Since Brain and Frank are both drummers for the band, shouldn't there be little sillouettes of both of them at the top of the page in the right corner?

Are u serious Adz? No one should ever put any stock in anything u ever say again after that moronic comment. Seriously.......................

It doesnt matter if Brain leaves, who gives a fuck.

GNR survived Slash,Duff,Izzy,Steven,Matt,Gilby,Bucket and still continued, so if u think losing a drummer will have any kind of negative affect u are crazy.

I personally hate Steven Adler, I don't like the guy at all, but to discredit his amazing drumming on AFD is criminal.

He has some of the great rock drum riffs of all time. Next thing u are gonna say is that the Better drum part is better than Brownstone. ::)

I like them both I guess...Frank more though because I've seen him live and he completely rocked. but what happens if Brain does come back, will Frank just leave, take turns or what? Del James (I believe) said that Frank was also a part of GNR and that he'd also done some stuff on Chinese Democracy so it wouldn't really make sense if he'd just leave...

I gotta say ive seen many gnr shows 2 of them with frank and 2 of them with brain gotta say they are both world class drummers but franks seems to be having much more fun up there not to mention he plays YCBM a hell of alot better ans his intro to Mr. B is just as orgasmic atleast that's what I saw? . It's also fair to say frank has played more gigs with gnr then brian an in my opinion which is by no means factual id have to say frank is in for the long haul, but then again what do I know

mm yes, at least, 5 were considered MEMBERS

01- Rob Gardner
02- Steven Adler
03- Matt Sorum
04- Brain
05- Frank Ferrer

then we could count...

06- Josh Freese

and if we include guest appearences and sporadical substitutions...

07- Fred Coury
08- Don Henley
09- Lars Ulrich

and last but definitely not least...

10- Duff played drums on track 11 - The Spaghetti Incident? ''You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory'' (Johnny Thunders)

And I think that is all

I saw Brain once, and Frank twice.  I would have like for Brain to stuck with the band through out the tours.  He has been playing live with them since 2001.  But you never know why he took the time off.  He might really need to be with his wife and child and cannot commit to a long world tour.  However, the energy with Frank on the drums is clearly noticeable, and Frank looks like he loves being on stage.

I have never gotten that impression.  He just makes smart ass remarks in interviews to fuck with people and they take it seriously.  I remember an interview where he talked about how proud he was of the music GN'R has made.

Buckethead is on tap too, saying that him joining GNR has "been a ride like nothing else". Quoted on his old website for an interview with some magazine. Same article where they posted that Axl invited him over for a Holiday Season and had found the Leatherface doll he'd (Bucket) been wanting for ages..

Sure, Bucket brought in Brain (allegedly) but he stayed on until his child was born. Who knows.

I hope he stays, but yeah -- Frank is really a likable, genuine and cool guy. He seems so, anyway. And a thunderous yet funky drummer ?8)

yeah, come on. people who think he's only there for the check and actually believe in the jokes Brain make, really need to spend a little more time using their nugget.

exactly right! brain's sense of humor is a lot of tongue-and-cheek. he put his time and heart and soul into the album and touring...he is greatly missed.....

absolutely. he was half of the attraction of the current GN'R for me.

Sometimes I got the impression Brain was just there for the check kind of going through the motions.  Whereas Frank genuinely seems to love being in GnR.  Brain is a great drummer, I think Frank is a better fit for Guns N Roses personally

I have never gotten that impression.  He just makes smart ass remarks in interviews to fuck with people and they take it seriously.  I remember an interview where he talked about how proud he was of the music GN'R has made.

Ali

I'm not really talking about the interview where he said the paycheck was great.  There was an interview a while back though where Brain said that he hopes that "they" release because it might be "their" Led Zeppelin (can't remember which album he said).  I think it was actually the same interview where he said he was very proud of the work he'd done and that he'd help write some of the songs

I have no doubt Brain worked hard and he did some great work, his drumming on TWAT and Chinese Democracy is great IMO.  But it seemed like he never really considered himself a member of the band.  And people talk about this band being Axl and his session musicians but I think that's a huge insult to guys like Dizzy, Tommy, Richard and Robin in particular.

Anyway it's no disrespect to Brain.  I've seen him live both with GnR and with the Colonel Claypool project with Les and Buckethead, he's a great drummer.  I just never got the imprssion that he was totally into the GnR thing, more like he came in, laid down some drums, wrote some parts, gave some input and went on with his life.  That could be totally false, it's just the impression I get for some reason.  Frank just seems to be more into it from my angle.  But I'm happy with either

i agree. but you need to add brain's name to the list. don't forget, he was there before richard. he's been there pretty much from the start of the new incarnation of the band. these guys are all-stars, not a backing band. they deserve their due. thats why i hope the album comes out so people besides us internet nerds can get to appreciate them....? ?

it was led zeppelin II

and you're right: frank seems to be more into it; but brain is the more impressing drummer...

Brain just drums and likes to have a good time/play a lot of stuff....

He doesn't give a fuck if he's known for being in gnr or not imo... I wouldn't rule out him coming back if the new band finally played a setlist that was half new/half old.

Play a CD of Brain drumming then play a CD of Frank playing and I guarantee u won't tell the difference.

I have heard nothing he has done in GNR that is irreplaceable.

The live boots I have seen he didnt exactly blow me away.  He is no Tommy Lee,Lars Ulrich,Dave Grohl or Steven Adler.

out of those four only Grohl is decent.

Brain has a groove. Not many does.

I love what I heard on TWAT and as with Buckethead, really hope any contributions that he made remain intact.
