Title: Song Recommendations (Mainstream)
Post by: liquidvirus on August 15, 2004, 12:04:19 PM
Since we have already have a thread for people stating their favorite underground songs and bands.
This is a thread for a little more mainstream songs (but that doesnt mean avril lavigne, britney and enrique).
Some songs which are on the radio but dont get much airplay (Unfortunately, this has become the fate of most decent rock music nowadays)

Also, Describe the song
I'll Start

Green Day - American Idiot
their new song from the album of the same name, great single, shows their basic outrage against the way mainstream media is controlling the minds of americans

Rush-YYZ

Fast paced instrumental showcasing the muscicianship of the band. Neil Peart's drumming is excellent and Alex Lifeson's solo's are awesome.  Let's not forget the fat baseline from my man Geddy Lee.  Overall awesome song.

Saliva - Survival Of The Sickest
A really catchy song from a great album.
it does have a little bit of rapping but its in good taste, oh, it also has a guitar solo :D, so does every other song on the album

And, if you don't like the song, don't be a cunt and post shit bout it, just let it be!! :peace:

Papa Roach just released a new single called "Getting Away With Murder", which is pretty good - not as good as "She Loves Me Not", but still not bad.  I always thought they were an underrated band, because they wrote way better hooks than most nu-metal bands.

I heard it today on the radio.  It's pretty good as far as Green Day goes.  Billie Joe's voice is mellower than in the past.

Is the rest of the album political or just this one song?

Rolling Stones - Sway

The most underrated Stones song ever, it really showcases th gnius of Mick Taylor. The riff in the beggining is great, as well as the sing-along chorus. Not to mention the awesome outro solo

Made In Heaven - Queen (song that should have been released as a single but wasn't). A brilliant sounding song by Freddie Mercury originally but remixed by Queen after he passed away with better instruments, and one of the best guitar solos...EVER!!!!!!

its a really good song, but one of the worst on the album, they screwed up bigtime by making this their first single!
it should have been blood or not listening.Papa roach are very underrated band :(

hey random, i have no idea on the whole green day album. but, it does have a 9 minute song called jesus of suburbia which should be interesting!

Quarashi - Stun Gun
It's more rap than rock, but still a great party tune. some really funny lyrics on this song!
Quarashi is another highly underrated band
song is available at their web blog. I think the add is quarashi.simblogg.is

This isn't too recent but KISS did a cover of the Ramones' "Do You Remember Rock 'N' Roll Radio" that absolutely rocked. One of the best songs they've done in years.

Ozzy Osbourne, "You Lookin' At Me Lookin' At You".  This is a bonus track on the reissue of the Blizzard of Ozz album, and it's a great, catchy pop metal track.  Ozzy made more poppy, commercial music than the general metalhead would admit, and that's why I like his solo stuff more than Black Sabbath.

3 AM Eternal - KLF
i just heard it as it's on the GTA san adreas soundtrack, but its a pretty awesome song.
Can't really specify a genre but it leans towards a techno-rock rap kinda vibe.
kinda catchy song - check it out

The Killers - Somebody Told Me

This has added a breath of fresh air to my otherwise extremely bland local rock station.  It's dance-rock along the lines of The Smiths or The Cure, but with more energy and a soaring chorus.  Check it out.

MManson stopped by KROQ to promote his greatest hits collection - the idea of it is just funny to me  :hihi:

But I like his cover of Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus - better than the original, imo.

The Beastie Boys' new album, To The 5 Boroughs, is really lame overall.  But there's one really good song on it, called "Right Right Now Now".  Check it out, it's got a catchy chorus and a good beat.

He does have a lot of great songs, but if I say the words 'Marilyn Manson's Greatest Hits' or 'The Best of Marilyn Manson' out loud, it feels a bit cheesy to me  :hihi:   I will probably buy it anyway.  :)

Their heart is in the right place but they still sound the same, maybe they'd be better served sounding like what they pay tribute to instead of the bands that are killing the industry.

Monster Magnet - Brainstorm.  A great cover of a Hawkwind classic.  It's off their Superjudge album from 1993.  Great stoner/acid rock induced fun from their very good but not so commercial earlier stuff : ok:

Jesus Of Suburbia - Green Day

A punk rock opera - is what this song has been called....and its a great song, divided into 5(i think) parts...all rock and some pretty nice lyrics as well
