5.5 hours to Montreal.

Hmmmm......

Smiley

I'd have to take Wednesday and Thursday off...not too bad.  Heck, I could probably "work from home" on Thursday, out of a hotel room...and then drive back after "work".

Oh..temptation is great on this one.  I'm being swayed from my position of waiting for dates in the States......

Do man, do it!

Nah, but I remember how you feel seven years ago when I looked at MSG tickets just out of curiosity and was presented with a floor ticket.  It was too much and bought the ticket, ensuring a road trip from Toronto to NYC.  But then I thought, well, I have family in Boston, might as well check out if I can get anything good.  So low and behold, I was offered second road lower-bowl and figured, let's see Boston.  Finally I remembered my buddy going to Penn U in Philly and figured I'd see if there was anything good.  And surprise surprise, there was third row lower bowl available (buying singles definitely helped seat selection).  Temptation around GNR always leads me to travel; though not this year...

Though I have to say, Montreal is probably the most fun city in Canada, maybe second or third after Vegas and/or New Orleans in North America.  If there's one city worth checking out because GNR is playing there, it's Montreal.

Cheers,

Andrew

I suppose that's where us 'Brits' come in lucky.  I was able to see 5 shows in 2006, the furthest being a 2 1/2 hour drive.

^^ true true, but how amazing would it be to combine a holiday to somewhere as gorgeous as Canada WITH GnR shows as well... or USA - always wanted to see GnR with a home-crowd/MSG esp.

Looking very forward to board member reviews of these and the Dec gigs too!

Man, I'm so torn! I can't decide whether to roll the dice and hope they book some dates in the states, or to make the 7 hour drive up to the London show.  If it were any month other than January it'd be a done deal, but London is right in the snow belt that time of year.   nervous

Yeah, I'd love to see GN'R in MSG.. but can't afford it, not even close. Even if I could I wouldn't be able to attend because of the long flight Cheesy But that's the dream!

Guns N' Roses Finally Touring Behind Chinese Democracy ... In Canada

No U.S. dates are currently on the roster.

Was it something we said? Nearly a year after releasing their eagerly anticipated album Chinese Democracy, Guns N' Roses are finally mounting a tour in support of the 17-years-in-the-making CD. But so far the outing amounts to 13 Canadian dates, with no announced plans to hit up any U.S. cities.
Rumors of the impending Canadian tour announcement, as well as some reported late 2009 dates in Southeast Asia (which weren't confirmed by GN'R reps at press time) began leaking out last week. By Tuesday, a variety of Canadian press outlets had confirmed the dates, which are slated to kick off on January 13 with a show in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the MTS Centre and run through a February 4 date in Halifax, Nova Scotia, at the Metro Centre. The dates have since been confirmed by promoter LiveNation.

Rolling Stone magazine called the dates part of the "Guns N' Roses Chinese Democracy World Tour," which would represent the first full-scale outing in support of the album, whose sales failed to live up to the likely unrealistic expectations of fans and critics, topping out just shy of 600,000 copies to date.

The album's sales were hurt, no doubt, by the lack of live touring by the band as well as by singer Axl Rose's decision to do next to no press to promote the release. GN'R now consists of just one original member, Rose, and a series of sidemen, with the most recent addition being former Sixx:A.M. guitarist DJ Ashba, who replaced Nine Inch Nails' Robin Finck.

I too am torn, I could get to Canada, however I am wanting to hold out for the possibility of US shows.

Does anyone think that GNR may do some warm-ups in the US again?

It's possible, or the dates in Asia could be "warm-ups" for the Canada tour.  No offense to the Asian dates, but they could be used to work out the kinks.  Otherwise if they wanted to do warm up shows, they'd probably be in CA before they head to the Far East.

Don't hold your breath for US dates. The Asia dates are the 'warm up' dates for Canada. I would agree that unless you live in California or vicinity, come to Canada for a show or two.

I would suspect GnR will do the Europe summer circuit and that leaves Feb - May to tour the US, but I would think South America might be in order. Finding a promoter in the States is probably really hard for them with past histories/cancellations and mediocre ticket sales. I'm sure they are touring Canada first to prove they will show up and can draw fans.

Agreed.  Hopefully they're successful and show promoters in the US they are still a viable touring commodity.  That's what I'm holding out for.  I could make the 6 hour trek to Canada for one of the shows, but who's to say there won't be the storm of the century the day of the show in the middle of winter?  Lots of factors.  For now I'll live vicariously through those who do go, and wait patiently for the band to hit the States, hopefully soon.  If I KNEW they were never coming back, then it would be a different story, but I have faith.

Who holds the tickets to the seats in the first two lower bowl sections closest to the stage? Is it the band, the promotors, the venue?   Presale in Winnipeg got me 5 sections away, regular sale today closest I can get is 3 sections away...presale on Minneapolis in 2006 got me 3rd row stage left...now that I've been there, I don't want to go back...where can a person get these tickets?Huh?

isn't gnr's manager the Chairman of Ticketmaster?

topping out just shy of 600,000 copies to date.

why the hell do they have to bring up the us sales when it's about the world tour?
if you compare it to the worldwide sales said to be 3.5 to 5 mil.....

From Bumblefoot's forum:

audioslave: This isn't really about GnR, just more about the tour. If you can't answer these questions for whatever reason then that's cool, but yeah...

Can you say what kind of guitars your going to be bringing with you (at least for the Canadian dates or around that time back here in North America)?

Do you got your set up all planned out already? If so, care to share a little?

extra question: ...what kinda outfits Razz jumpsuit? toque??

thanks!! Smile

Bumblefoot: Vigier double-neck and Vigier GV guitars, lookin' like I might stick with the Engl Invader 100 head... as for what I'm gonna wear in Canada in January? 6 pairs of thermal underwear, 5 jackets, and 3 hats.
