Title: Ron Thal's guitar
Post by: SWINGTRADER on May 29, 2006, 08:18:37 AM
When I first heard of Ron Thal joining the band and I saw his foot guitar, I thought it was a disgrace for this dude to join GNR.  But now that I have gotten a chance to see him live I think this guy kicks ass.  he plays with emotion unlike Buckethead.  When I saw him doing his solo yesterday with his foot guitar  I thought it was one of the funniest things ( not in a bad way) I have seen from this new band.  The way those wings came out and started moving was classic.  I can't believe I am saying this but I am digging his guitar.   I still think he should only use that guitar for parts of the show  but I don't mind seeing him perform with it.

I'm sorry, but I don't agree. Maybe not according to your definition of emotion in music, but definately according to tons of other people...

what "tons of other people".... if you think buckethead had any "emotion" in his playing your high.. he had a fukcing mask on... you cant see his face or the emotion hes trying to convey with his playing... he was good but you give him too much.

Many people have sacrificed many things for this band. ?Ron, it's your turn. ?Pack that foot guitar in it's case and ship it home. ?

We'll let you keep the wings, those are cool but just your standard guitar. ?We're a simple people but there are quite a few pot smokers. ?Guitars with wings gets their attention.

Look at that fucking moron Buckethead? - that is hands down the worst image/gimmick ever, especially in a band such as G'n'R that WAS known for it's style and attitude. Thank fuck he's gone. BUT now we have another non descript, Bumblefoot, who looks and dresses like a slob and has a ridiculous cartoonish foot shaped guitar that has lil wings that start flapping when the vibrato is used!! Fucking pathetic and it truly shows what kind of knuckleheads there are around when they think this kinda thing is "cool" or "neat" in a once untouchable rock 'n' roll band!!?

Get rid of this piece of shit guitar and break out the Les Paul's!!

Saul Isobel, seriously, stop.

You're just making a fool out of yourself.

To quote a post from Slipdisc, getting sense out of you is like squeezing orange juice out of an apple.

And I never thought I would see the day.... People are being superficial against a freakin' guitar!

For god's sake, does a strange looking guitar make the player bad?

I'm not saying that you said that, but other people have.

And by the way, your "hate" against Buckethead is just, wrong.

It's all based on his look, if you think Buckethead can't play, you're deaf and oh, yeah..

Don't even go there about Bumblefoot.

Dude i'm not the one playing with a KFC bucket on my head or a fucking foot-shaped guitar with lil flapping wings! If that's acceptable to you then YOU my friend are the fool!

Check your facts bro - that wasn't said to me.?

Come on man. LOOK at that thing it's like something out of a fucking Flintsones cartoon. We're talking G'n'R here - would you ever see the likes of Jimmy Page, Zakk Wylde, Kirk Hammett or SLASH playing such a fucking monstrousity... rock n roll is a lifestyle not a fucking Hanna Barbera cartoon - you get me?

Oh, yeah. I'm the fool, yeah... Stop being so superficial, but yeah, okay, I'm the fool, because I accept it, I don't even have to accept it, because there's nothing wrong with any of it.

I don't care if you think it looks like something out of the Flinstones, it's just a guitar.

And still, you're keep on being ignorant, it's all image-based, every single thing.

My last question, why are you even here? The only thing you do is complaining.

Buckethead's guitar playing has tons more emotion than what I have heard from Ron.
Ron's foot guitar is lame.
But Ron's a great guy and hopefully his playing will get more interesting once he has had time to adjust to the band and make his own mark.

you can't know much about ron then. ignorant thing to say.
and to the original poster, i like ron from the beginning, i'm so sick of you so-called fans who jump the bandwagon after first bashing them for no reason, just like with finck. fuck off.

Just got a mental picture of GnR dressed up as the flinstones... shit man, that's awfull...
I have to agree with Saul Isobel on this one.

Why? -- because I disagree with you.   I specifically limited my response to what I have heard from Ron, which is his live playing with GnR and a couple of pieces from his own band (which sounded like Zappa-like songs).   You shouldn't throw the "ignorant" label around merely because other people have different opinions than yours.

Fucking pathetic and it truly shows what kind of knuckleheads there are around when they think this kinda thing is "cool" or "neat" in a once untouchable rock 'n' roll band!!?

However, not as pathetic (by a long shot) as going around message boards dissing accomplished musicians based on a non-topic as looks. Good thing past generations weren?t this close-minded, otherwise the angry rappers would have taken over a lot earlier. It?s nice to see a ?true rock fan?, like yourself, not being affected by the whole ?appearance over music?-thing. Which single-handedly turned mainstream music in another sad exponent of our superficial-consumption-society?

Well, you haven't heard a lot then (I must assume), enjoy the rest of it?

I'm looking forward to hearing more of it.  Please point me in the direction of some of his more-"emotional" guitar playing tunes.  (I loved Buckethead's Colma -- curious if Ron has anything comparable)

Oh look, it's the founder of the kiss-Ron-Thal's-ass club. Yep, he looks like shit and his guitar looks like a joke prop. Finck sorted himself out so your boy can do the same. You're damn right looks are important. Especially when you're in Guns 'n' Roses, a band who looked AND played the part. Ron Thal has accomplished nothing in comparisson to his G'N'R predecessors. Sure he can play, but he's a fucking guitar nerd shredder with zero platinum records to his name. Get a stylist and lose the cartoon guitar. End of story.

You're damn right looks are important.

Offcourse they are, after all: little things affect little minds.

Who am I to disagree?

Ron Thal has accomplished nothing in comparisson to his G'N'R predecessors.

Offcourse not, especially if we take into consideration that he, just like Buckethead, made name for himself. Where every single other member of gnr is mainly in the picture because of past glory and certainly not because of their non-existent body of solo material, during the post gnr-era. If you?re going to say something that stupid, at least fake a stroke.

Sure he can play, but he's a fucking guitar nerd shredder with zero platinum records to his name.

Yeah I already assumed that your were one of these popularity equals quality types. Music is an art form, no popularity contest. You must adore Britney Spears...

Get a stylist

The difference between you and me, is that I have no note-bending-face-pulling definition of emotion in music. Buckethead's ability to channel emotion into his playing is second to almost none. If spend the better part of ten years listening to great amounts of instrumental music, I don't need such shallow visual stimuli to define whether there's emotion or not.

Dude - there are two types of players. The blues based rockers like Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Zakk Wylde, SLASH and Angus Young to name a few. These players are rock n roll legends for a reason and they don't rely on cheesy gimmicks like KFC buckets and cartoon guitars with lil flapping wings to make a name for themselves. Musically, while i acknowledge the ability of the likes of Vai, Buckethead and Bumblefoot these players are scientific, self indulgent soloists who leave me cold and bored with their bland "look how fast i can run up and down the fretboard" guitar wankery. Give me rock 'n' roll, groove and melody over "musical science" any day of the week. Understand where i'm coming from now?

Oh and on topic..... would you seriously play or want to see THIS over a Les Paul Custom????...

Another fact you may like to consider is why the fuck does it take TWO guitarists to do the job SLASH did on his own huh??... ?:hihi:

ron is a great guy, i have emailed with him myself, and he would never do something like that, he's staying on the team for as long as they want him, to use his own words for me when i asked him about if he was permanent. anyway, you don't get it, axl dosn't want to duplicate slash's work, he has two lead guitar players to create a new dimension in the band, and believe me, it will work. you'll regret your words soon enough, trust me.

i hate the foot guitar but if it works for Ron great, keep in mind it has a floyd rose for his solos which are all tricks and taps. Les Pauls dont have them obviously. I love les pauls and he used them the whole show people, except for his solos which included a whammy.

also buckets white LP is so cool.

Personally I think that Ron Thal is an awesome guitarist, and a kewl guy. Yes, his foot guitar is a little weird looking, but hey! I can think of worse designs for guitars! So its not the coolest looking guitar in the world. BIG FUCKING DEAL!! Its not the way it LOOKS its the way it SOUNDS!

Can't you people get over the image thing!? Its not all that important! Yes, when something looks good it makes it automatically acceptable, and yes, because you're not used to the foot guitar you're all thinking "HEY! That's DIFFERENT!! It's GAY! It looks STUPID!"

But I bet that if Slash had played that guitar right from the beginning... you'd all be sayin' things like "HEY!! That guitar is like SO COOL man!! Its DIFFERENT! You're SO BRAVE AND COOL to play it!"

::)

Seriously. Just get over it already.

Bumblefoot's an awesome guitarist and a real nice guy, so just all you non-believers give him a chance! You'll see!! You'll all be singing his praises!! Just you wait and see!

Dude i'm not the one playing with a KFC bucket on my head or a fucking foot-shaped guitar with lil flapping wings! If that's acceptable to you then YOU my friend are the fool!

We know.  If you were, it'd mean you're a talented guitar player who has played in front of huge crowds and impressed the fuck out of them.  Instead you're so petty you come here and call Buckethead an idiot for dressing the way he does, and Ron Thal a disgrace for playing with a custom made guitar, as though that has anything to do with their talent

What are you going to do as an encore, fart? It sure would be the cherry on this masterpiece of literary impotence you have constructed in this thread.

Oh look, it's the founder of the kiss-Ron-Thal's-ass club.

-When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser-  (Socrates)

Thank you for making it that obvious that you are struggling this much. I simply love it when people show that much weakness. Go ahead give us some more?

Yep, he looks like shit and his guitar looks like a joke prop.

Sure enough he goes on exploring the frontiers of stupidity?Go ahead; tell me something else I don?t care about. Since you?re the board-stylist, I was wondering what your thoughts were on Beta?s new hairdo?

You must adore Britney Spears...

your post history shows that you have a hard-on for Ron Thal. Hey, be my guest

Your post history shows you spend an awful lot of time discussing fashion, looks and hard-ons. Does this mean you wear women?s underwear and frequent special bars with warning lights installed in your colon, asking for imported heine-cum beers? I mean, is this the way I should apply your connect-the-secondary-bullshit-dots-theory? Just riding on your train of thought here... I don?t know, seems pretty irrelevant to me.

Go ahead click on some other histories of other posters. Might surprise you Sherlock, but everybody has their favorites. At least I know why I support players like Buckethead and Thal. So I don?t have to rely on a strange mix of insults and superficial filler to feed my false sense of credibility and divert the focus from lack of argumentation, while grasping for all straws within a five mile radius.

No, you?re a-b-s-o-f-u-c-k-i-n?-l-u-t-el-y right, they rely on top hats, schoolboy uniforms, inverted guitars and clich? poses. Buckethead and Thal are two of the most respected guitar players in the genre right now. Based on the way they reinvented the guitar, just like some of those names did in the past. Say what you want, the credits and music are there. Whether you acknowledge it is pretty irrelevant, it painfully unveils your ignorance no matter what.

while i acknowledge the ability of the likes of Vai, Buckethead and Bumblefoot these players are scientific, self indulgent soloists who leave me cold and bored with their bland "look how fast i can run up and down the fretboard" guitar wankery.

Self indulgent? How can a guy who lets all the credits he gets, go to his anonymous persona be self indulgent? It?s funny how one moment your expressing deep admiration for some of the biggest egomaniacs music has ever seen, only to turn your back and lash out to players who always have let the music prevail over the person. Calling them self-indulgent. Ron is one of the biggest collaborators in the scene. The list of people he didn?t work with is almost smaller than the list of people he did work with. Furthermore, Buckethead is most renown for calm ambient and melodic music, just like Thal isn?t known as a speed monster either. You focusing on the speed is symbolic for your ignorance driven approach towards these players. But hey, that?s just you?.inconsistent, hypocritical and clueless.

Give me rock 'n' roll, groove and melody over "musical science" any day of the week. Understand where i'm coming from now?

Trust me, I know where you?re coming from. What interests me more is when you were planning to go back again?

Oh and on topic..... would you seriously play or want to see THIS over a Les Paul Custom????...

No you see, normal people (who don?t judge music with their eyes) want to HEAR that over a Les Paul, when an able person plays the shit out of it. Here, to meet your craving for visual stimulation, I found a picture for you as well:

Hey, don't worry... that's just slipdisc doing his hobby thing... he's an avid debater didn't you know? He jerks off at every post he himself makes on this forum, I'm not kidding! That "preview" button is almost worn out by now...

You know how I know this? You can tell by the way he patronizes people in his posts... you can tell by the way he dissects every single reply, just to formulate an answer to the littlest detail first, thus obscuring the fact that he has no clue what the original poster actually meant to begin with... you can tell by the way he quotes people far more intelligent than himself, just to cover up his own ignorance on the subject at hand... you can tell by the way he validates his claims by citing outside sources that he refers too as 'respected musicians' or 'well known collaborators' without actually mentioning actual people... you can tell by the way he uses witty remarks, cheap one-liners and easy pot-shots to take focus away from the conversation...
<edit> You can tell by the way he edits posts, right after he posted them... 'cause you know, he just re-read it for the fifth time and found an even more eloquent way of expressing his personal feelings...</edit>

You know, he's a pretty intelligent guy, that's obvious. It's a shame that he indulges himself in his 'verbal masturbation' so much. Indeed, much akin to the 'fretboard wankery' you mentioned earlier in one of your own posts.

As to the subject at hand: the guitar sucks. Not only is it butt-ugly (hey, I prefer a nice ebony les paul custom with nickel hardware to just about anything... just my taste), but more importantly: it sounds pretty bad. The sound is harsh and plasticy (is that even a word?). Sustain can't be any good from what I can see in the pictures either (looks acryl? body is too small anyway, definately not solid), but it's hard to notice in his actual playing since he doesn't seem to like letting a note ring through for more than 3 nanoseconds anyway (I know this is a gross exageration, f*ck off anyway). I don't like his overal guitar tone either, but I can say that about Fink as well, and I just hope it'll be somewhat different in the final mastered version of the disc (which Thal presumably won't be on).

I swear everyone ragging on Ron's look are a bunch of women.  He's a grown dude who wants to dress that way, so be it.  At least he isn't dressing like Robin did in 2002 and at least he doesn't hide his face with a masket and bucket, be thankful for that.  And who cares about his guitar, its not like he plays with it the whole damn show.  He used it for his solo, big deal.  Slash is Slash, Ron is Ron, Bucket is Bucket, who gives a flying fuck.  If he plays damn good music and guitar, he's alright by me, and Ron is definitely alright by me.

Trust me I?ve seen your work. I?m not the one suffering from Clue Deficit Disorder here. Go ahead show us why you and Saul make such a nice couple, just talk, the rest will sort itself out.

you can tell by the way he quotes people far more intelligent than himself, just to cover up his own ignorance on the subject at hand... you can tell by the way he validates his claims by citing outside sources that he refers too as 'respected musicians' or 'well known collaborators' without actually mentioning actual people... you can tell by the way he uses witty remarks, cheap one-liners and easy pot-shots to take focus away from the conversation at hand.

If you would have been long enough here to actually know what you?re talking about, you would know that I can back up everything I claim. I have nothing to prove on this board. I could care less about some spamming newbie's half-assed opinion on me, trying to discredit me by tearing me down to his level. If have no aspiration whatsoever, to prove anything to you. The people who matter know better.

You know, he's a pretty intelligent guy, that's obvious. It's a shame that he indulges himself in his 'verbal masturbation' so much. Indeed, much akin to the 'fretboard wankery' you mentioned earlier in one of your own posts.

At least I have the decency to respond to people to as many of their points as possible.

I?m not giving you the satisfaction of me stooping to your level, I said what I wanted to say in this thread and it?s there for everybody to read it. That's it. I?ll let other people decide who?s views they support, I don?t need to have a newbie?s approval to know I?m right. Not that all newbies have no say, it?s just a certain kind we see a lot lately. Go ahead dig up some more dead-horses and fire some more insults, show us all how bitter you are. I respect the people who run this board enough to know when it?s time to pull the plug and stop putting oil on the fire.

Once again, I'm not going to respond to your reply point by point... I know you think it's somehow indecent of me for one reason or another, but I'm going to take that risk. I'm glad you saw the irony of me editing my post... In all honesty, I'm kinda surprised you actually replied to that one, seeing how I put the emphasis on it so much :).

So besides the fact that you attack me on the count of my low nr of posts (as that seems to be the meat of your response), I noticed you didn't have anything to say about the part of my post that actually was on topic. Come on, you're obviously into this kinda thing, you obviously know your stuff when it comes to this: explain to me why you think the bumblefootbeeguitar cross-over is a good guitar. Hey, I love Ron, and I think his fan interaction is amazing and wonderful, but number one all time? I don't know about that.  Just because one site says it, doesn't make it true.  I mean, there are "top x" lists made every day, but they're not based on any facts, they're based on opinion and personal preference.

I like Bumble's style better than Bucket's, but there's no way to convince anyone that one's better than the other.

As for the guitar, I think it's awesome.

Bumble seems like a nice guy. Maybe somebody could e-mail him and ask him if he would do us guns fans a favor and loose the foot guitar. I'm putting this song up for all the people who think Bucket has no emotion in his playing. This type of playing with Axl's voice is exactly what I hope is on Chinese Democracy.

What are you going to do as an encore, fart? It sure would be the cherry on this masterpiece of literary impotence you have constructed in this thread.

I'm loving it.?

-PEACE-

saul, tell me this, what makes you wanna stick with angus as opposed to buckethead? is it that buckethead is less known and more of a virtuoso? is that what's making you uncomfortable and unable to open your closed mind up for something new?

Oh and on topic..... would you seriously play or want to see THIS over a Les Paul Custom????...

good post - forget the gimmickry (which is lame) a better question is regarding BBF's wanky solos

i believe my point has been made.

may I ask where the godfather of modern guitar playing, one Mr Jimi Hendrix is on that list of yours?

that list is a complete crock

Name one Ron Thal composition that is an absolute genre classic in the vein of SCOM? Throw in one from Buckethead while you're at it? Infact, name one song theyve produced that is as famous as the least famous Slash song, say an obscurity like Bad Apples?

That list is from a guitar magazine and is aimed at technical guitar virtuosos

Slash has made more impact on popular guitar and guitar players than most of that list combined, not to mention his huge impact on popular music/culture

It has?  What makes that list any more legitimate than one in which Slash is first?

slash doesn't come first on any list with a shred of credibility.

That could be the most ridiculous ranking of guitarists that I have ever seen. Laughable. Utterly laughable.

why, because you only like people who never shred?
sorry to disappoint you, but ron and bucket are recognized as two of the top ten guitar players in the world by most people who know what they are talking about.

Yeah,  you'd never find any of those players using cheesy gimmicks like playing guitar with their teeth or setting it on fire, using violin bows or double necks, or covering their guitar in beer-bottle tops or dressing in school uniforms or WEARING A FREAKING TOP HAT ON STAGE. Good call, dude.

Title: Re: Ron Thal's guitar

why do people always talk about "blues based" players as if bumblefoot and buckethead weren't capable of that? the difference between them and alot of other guitar players is that they are capable of playing so many different styles, which puts them leagues ahead of alot of other players on that list and anyone denying their talents simply doesn't know much about guitar playing.

Why?

Well,

for example, Zakk Wylde at 69, Eddie Van Halen at 53, Slash and Dimebag at 41 and 42......

Obviously there is a bias toward shredders in this list.

Booker is right on, what makes this list more credible than any other. Frankly, I have a legitimate objection to more than a few of the selections.

btw, who are these people who know what they are talking about? Your post is ill defined.

That's because it's Pinchface, not Brain :)

Pinchface rocks though. If you've heard "Want Some Slaw?" by Buckethead, when they perform it live, that guy does the "Bucket is a psycho" bit.

I know many people are up in arms about the "gimmicks" from the guitarists, such as buckethead and now Bumblefoot, but in all honesty, if people say that this does not fit GNR, they are out to lunch.  GnR has been doing this since the start.

First off was Slash.  Come on, who didn't immediately get drawn to the TOPHAT in the SCOM video?  When everyone first hooked onto GnR, everyone was saying ". . . and their guitarist is named SLASH, and he wears a TOPHAT!  How weird is that?"

Then, in the UYI era, who thought it was completely normal when Axl started coming out on stage in a FREAKING KILT?  I mean, cmon, how normal was that?

I know it is different, but I think the guitar (as well as the chicken bucket, ::) even tho I was never sold on that one) show that they actually have PERSONALITY!!!!!  I'm completely cool with it.

Although I'm not too disturbed by the imagery myself, but I guess it has something to do with looking as a band as opposed to looking as a bunch of guys thrown together. 2002 was really bad in that respect, they all just seemed to not fit together at all. Bucket seemed to come from a completely different planet than Fink did, and they both looked pretty alien compared to the rest of the band. Axl looked different altogether.

Slash looked special, but certainly not out of place in the band at the time. Just like he doesn't look out of place in VR either.

Bucket and Fink did look out of place: Bucket and Fink because of their outrageous looks. Bumble still does because he looks like he doesn't take anything seriously. The bumbleguitar doesn't fit in with the rest of the imagery in the band, because it looks funny, almost like a joke. You can't project a band image if you don't look like you came from the same place, grew up in the same circumstances. Bucket looked like a character from a horror flick, Fink looked goth, and bumble looks like he's an average suburbian Joe (which he probably is, and thats fine... he just doesn't blend in that well at the moment).

We should give him some time, as I'm sure he'll change, but that shouldn't stop people from venting their feelings about his looks and the looks of his novelty guitar.

You see, a gimmick is fine, as long as your gimmick doesn't set you apart from the rest of the band.

I'm not a so-called "expert" who has an over-blown, exasperated critical opinion of every single note played, but I have to disagree.? Buckethead, love him or hate the guy, plays with a ton of emotion.? Don't be fooled just?because you can't see his face.

You're right about that.

But since you don't seem to get it, the moderators and I can tell you to shut up if we think your posts are annoying/insulting/pointless.

One guy who keeps repeating himself in every thread won't ruin this board for the rest of us.

Keep that in mind next time you wanna go on and on and on about Bumblefoot.

I hate that fucking guiter!! stupid fucking foot! why is it even at the gnr showS?? its a fools guiter. no reason to have that dumb thing. a foot? why? its dumb like a buckethead! not a les paul like slash uses! who told him to bring that guiter? even axl said on trunk shows that dont use the foot guiter. use the les paul but still he want to use that fools guiter! why? its not cool. its not good sound or good looking!? he is in guns n roses now. he need to use the right guiter. not that fools toy. he only use it for his solo so its not bad. if he use it all show long i will find that guiter and let it meet the real foot. my foot! i will stomp it to the ground into the ground and the dirt to 10000000 pieces and break it and kick it across the road so that i can never let axl fix the fools guiter again or use it at a guns n roses show! its emberassing to me when i let my friends see who is the new guiterist and he use a foot guiter. same like the stupid buckethead! Axl i feel ashamed that u let them use this fools guiter and bucket head and high legs/high stepping on the show of guns n roses! u have to remeber that u wrote the songs in LA. in the jungle! not in the circuis of fools!? curse that foot guiter!

Jesus.... grow up sir

I didnt like BH's gimmick, but at least it was kind of mysterious and that made it kind of edgy and Rock N' Rollish.  What is BBF's goal, "I am going to be the biggest douchebag in the history of rock music."  BH clearly does his own thing cause he is crazy, I like that.  There is nothing crazy about playing a foot guitar, wearing spongebob t-shirts and getting offended that some people are saying that you may at sometime party.  The only crazy thing is that Axl hired this guy, Im just glad hes not going to be on the cd.

Don't cancel that cat -scan yet, you were talking about in that other thread (the annoying thing about BBF). This post alone should be reason enough to have at least one taken. The eagerness you portray in writing of a whole person merely on some side-issues is epic.

Dude i'm not the one playing with a KFC bucket on my head or a fucking foot-shaped guitar with lil flapping wings! If that's acceptable to you then YOU my friend are the fool!
Repeat after me: "It's about the music, not the image. If all you care about is image, then you're a shallow, superficial twat who's no better than a Britney fan." Repeat until you understand.

I care about music more than anything, but to say rock music is about music and not image is to be completely blind and oblivious.  Rock music as Axl once said is about making money.  In order to make money you need a good image.  Think back at the biggest bands of all time, including GNR, their guitarists all had images that were unique, intriguing and usually dangerous.  You may say money does not matter and in a perfect world it wouldnt.  The fact is though an estimated 13 mil has already been spent on this cd.  There is no way itll ever make that money back and if it does not even come close then there will not be a second cd, there will not be a 2nd US tour (or 3rd if you count 2002) and there will probably not be a GNR anymore.  This is why I care about image.  I want tons of music, I love Axl, I love the new band and I love the dropped songs, I dont want just one CD.  Maybe that makes me greedy, but I would like to see at least 3 from this band and have several tours to go to.  To me BBF's image is wrong and will not appeal to a mass audience who will want to buy the album.

Oh and by the way if you dont think GNR's success wasnt helped majorly by their destructive over the top images and fans want to vicariously live through the band then you do not know anything about music or GNR's history.
