Title: Annoys you the fact that people come and go without an official statement?
Post by: RnT on April 13, 2016, 06:42:38 PM
Finck, Ron, Tommy, Pitman, etc?

Tommy is a gnr member since 1998! Love Duff, of course, but as a fan that always did support Axl, I like all the members he brought to the band. And I like Tommy.

Always annoyed me greatly.

Like being in Guns N' Roses wasn't an honor or something. Always came off very unofficial and very half-assed. They were great players, but the lack of notification always bugged me.

Like Robin is in, Robin is out, Robin is in... Bucket is in, BUcket is out... just got old ya know.

I don't let it annoy me because I doubt that even with an "official statement" we would get the whole story/truth.

I'm a big fan of Tommy's too.  I believe his "statement" was that he left GNR due to 'personal issues'.  Obviously, we should respect his or anyone's right to privacy especially concerning personal matters.  Doesn't mean I wouldn't listen if he wanted to go into detail.

On the flip side, some of the speculation/rumors as to why certain people are no longer in the band are way way way better stories than the truth could ever be!!!  :P

Then there are those who are out that I couldn't care less why.  Good bye and good riddance.

Until I made my peace with the fact they just suck at this part of the business.

Of course Slash and Duff signed a contract now. Will you guys face them storming out like Finck, Ron, Tommy and Pitman without any statement?  ???

Yup.  No problem with no statement.

Again, the rumors/speculation would probably be way way way better stories than the truth!

Well, we can see for ourselves who is in the band and who isn't. Things can always change of course.

Personally I had a good chuckle at Pitman being unceremoniously chucked out the band, with no statement. It seemed like a fitting end to his time in GnR. "Sub-bass" indeed....😂😂😂

Title: Re: Annoys you the fact that people come and go without an official statement?

so... why not the truth to the fans?

Because we GNR fans are infamous for NOT believing the truth even when they do give it to us.  We ALWAYS KNOW there's something more they're NOT telling us.

Sometimes the truth is boring.  And we as GNR fans will have no part of boring!

Take the situation with Izzy for example.  Izzy himself created a twitter account to "officially announce" he was not going to be part of the April GNR shows.  It was/is our duty as GNR fans to rip that tweet apart and decipher word for word what he means by that!  (that is of course after we finish fighting over whether or not it is actually Izzy who owns that account)

So let's say the "whole truth" of the matter is that Izzy is just going to show up if/when he feels like it.  Would an "official statement" from management stating that stop the speculation that is currently on going?  I don't think so.  We would all continue to speculate the REAL reason Izzy isn't at the shows he's not at.

Well, Izzy is not in the band...
Finck, Tommy, Pitman, Ron were in the band

I?m not asking GNR to make a statement about Tracii Guns, you know what I mean...

IMO it's all the same.  Whatever statement is given, we the fans are not going to believe it's the entire story.

Can you name one official statement by GNR that wasn't picked apart by the fans?

Forget about we hardcore fans about a minute. What the rest of the world knows about them leaving the band?

Forget about we hardcore fans about a minute. What the rest of the world knows about them leaving the band?
Who gives a fuck what the rest of the world knows or doesn't know about band members exits?  GNR isn't telling us hardcore fans.  Why would they explain things to the casual fans?

75% of those casual fans don't know Slash hasn't been in the band these past 20+ years anyways.

And the fans who haven't followed the CD-era GNR because Slash wasn't a part of it are just thrilled he's rejoined and couldn't care less why the others left.  No need for any official statements on the exists for them.  And an official statement as to the circumstances of Slash rejoining is totally unnecessary for them too because, as you can read for yourself in other threads, these fans know it's because Axl couldn't sing vintage without him!  No official statement needed!!!

I just have no time for when they stay so tight lipped, then complain about misinformation and supposition.

Don't like it?  Speak the hell up.

I think it's a misconception by most of us that they are tight lipped then complain about the speculation.

I find that when they are tight lipped about something, they stay tight lipped.

It seems when they do on rare occasions address a rumor, it's to set the record straight.... which we fans of course will never believe is the entire story.

And 'round and 'round we go!

I can totally understand certain aspects of information not being released. There is many reasons for it.

But... in defending GNR management, or anyone who makes a statement when they leave... they get cut to shreds anyway. Look at DJ.. ive never been a fan of his on the stage, i dont think hes a particularly good lead guitarist for GNR and i dont like his style either. BUT... all in all he was loyal to Axl and he helped Axl through the last period, he left... made what i thought a very good statement on his intentions.. and then got cut to fucking shreds by people on here calling him out and saying he was this that and the other.

Take that situation.. and then take the opposite of Bumblefoot saying nothing.. and you still get the same result. People bitching about what they didnt get.. or accusing someone of having an agenda or whatever..... No-one wins either way.

And its the same on different topics around here... in another thread we have someone trying to start a petition FFS to get Axl to play songs out of a band that has nothing to do with GNR on behalf of a singer that he died that hasnt exactly had a great past relationship with.

I tend to think GNR fans will never be happy.. and thats coming from someone who was called a whinger by this sites owner for the last 18 months.

Just be happy with what we are getting and what have got.. we dont have to know everything about everything.. or have everything we want.

Too much over-analysing for me.

And whatever is said will be picked apart by the fans.

Actually, at this point I can?t imagine Axl or Slash or Duff saying something that wouldn?t be of substance.

Like what?

Do you actually think anyone would talk truthfully about new songs or what material will be on the next released album?

Let's say for example that the real reason Izzy isn't doing these shows is because as RUMORED, it's a dispute over money.  Do you really think that anyone is going to admit that officially?

What if the truth of why this rejoining happened was the result of one of the RUMORED speculations of a connection to Slash's divorce.  Do you really think anyone is going to say that officially?

What if Chris' absence is only temporary and he rejoins the band in June?  Do you really think anyone would officially say:  Chris said bad things on twitter so we had to put him in a time-out.

I don't think there's anything of substance they would address.

Most of us want to hear them address all the gossipy/rumored/speculation stuff anyways and I doubt we'll ever get or believe those real stories.

I believe when Axl does decide to do an interview once in a while ? and I don?t mean the tabloid Jimmy Kimmel type ?, he often says a lot of stuff we previously had no idea about.

We may not get too many details about possible new music being worked on, but they could reveal at least something. ("Are you working on anything at all currently?")

If Izzy?s reasons were money (which I also highly doubt), they could at least give us a hint about that. Or not, it?s fine with me. After all, it?s Izzy?s business.

I believe Slash and Axl being friends again is basically a matter of their own internal mutual relationship, and if that got mended, I see no reason why they shouldn?t tell us ? because they must expect every damn person to ask them that now anyway.

As for Chris, I see no reason why he should rejoin the band now. Chick?s cool and there?s always Dizzy.

Whatever they will or will not say, there must be at least something that will get uncovered, and that?s always better than having nothing in your hands and just guessing and speculating all the time. So we?ll see. That's all I meant by that.

I think it might annoy me if I cared that they were gone. If this were Slash or Duff leaving then I would want concrete answers.

What I know right now is that Slash and Duff are standing on the stage on either side of Axl and that is all the reason I need for why 'the others' are no longer here.

Once Slash and Duff stepped back in... I couldn't care less why any other former members left.

Sure... a detailed rant from any of them on why they are out would make for a juicy read...but I don't really care.

Please tell me why we would care if we were notified or not of former members of this band. In the end for these guys its a job if they were doing it because of just love of music they would do it for free and like in any job employees come and go. If i got fired from my job tomorrow theres not going to be a big notice going out about it. Plus it was actually more fun for me having this will they wont they build up/excitement

I get that the hows and whys of everything are not really our business, as fascinating as that stuff can sometimes be... it's our favorite band, we're interested in this stuff, nothing unusual about that.

But not wanting to get into explanations of things is not quite the same as officially reporting a fact, such as 'Schlemiel is no longer in the band, he is replaced by Schlimazel.'

I'd like to see some interviews, but the other night I was watching a lot of the old GNR interviews and stuff and a thought occurred to me. I almost wonder if it's just better for them not to do press.
It seems that maybe things said in the press in the past may have contributed to the fracturing of the classic lineup. This is just pure speculation, but say one guy says "yeah, I did this" off the cuff, and another guy thinks, "hey, wait, I was the one who did that!" Add in the media's tendency to embellish things about this band, and you can see how it would denigrates from there.
Maybe they've decided it's best to not to air dirty laundry or any laundry in the press.

Im the first to admit, id love to hear from Axl/Slash/Duff and get there take on the big issues everyone wants to know about.... but last year when everything was seemingly dead.. and compare that to what we have now.. which is quite remarkable.. ive just simply stopped "wanting things"... it really is that simple for me.

Slash and Axl back together on the same stage with Duff is what i wanted... and to see the level of performance from the band (and axl sounding amazing again).. as a fan, i couldnt be happier right now.

This ^^

The way some people twist, interpret, translate and garble every iota of information released, every tweet made, and every sentence uttered- It isn't surprising at all the little to nothing is said.

Some fans think they should be privvy to internal band business, I don't agree and see why they aren't informed to a greater degree.

I found it annoying in the past when people came and went without any explanation.  It never felt like a real band.  I was open for it, I tried to acccept a new lineup, but there never was one.

Now that Slash and Duff are back I couldn't care less about why the others are gone.  In fact, I don't think any of them 'left', I think this was in the works for a while and they all saw the writing on the wall.  Some of them dealt better with it than others.

He even said publicly it would be good for Axl to do.

I've read things how Tommy wasn't loyal to Axl at the end... I didn't really look at it that way.

Of course Slash and Duff signed a contract now. Will you guys face them storming out like Finck, Ron, Tommy and Pitman without any statement?  ???

I think they signed a contract concerning how much money they'll get from this tour, but I highly doubt they signed on to be salaried employees of Axl's. Plus, Slash and Duff are still part of the GNR Partnership. My point is that Slash and Duff are going to talk about everything at some point because they aren't just hired hands. Hell, I'm sure at least one of them will write a book about all of this, if not both of them.

Not under the circumstances, everything is rabidly scavenged and twisted to the degree where even positives are perceived as negatives.

It isn't like he disappeared off the face of the earth without any clues, he simply isn't in the band anymore, and the details are best kept private, imo.

I think it stands the test of time that we all would like some more press/interviews from the band. They've not really done anything since the early 90s. During the Trilogy of Rain, DC and Estranged was the last time I remember in depth stuff.

Other than that we've not really gotten much. Like what 3 radio interviews in 15+ years or something? I don't know the count but it's low.

I am sure Tommy knew. He seemed fine with it....left on good terms and understood how big a deal it is to reconnect with your old school band. The Replacements did the exact same thing as this but just on a smaller scale. He knows the deal.

Wasn't he replaced by Duff that last Vegas stint?

It' doesn't bug me at all.  In fact i've always been the opposite.   I don't announce every move I make or when I change jobs.   I always found it weird that bands need to make press releases about everything.   Just do it.. lol.

Guys, don?t get me wrong, I?m fucking loving what is happening! But I still like the "old-new" guys too. But that?s not the point. Remember the fax Axl sent to MTV saying Slash was not in GNR anymore? Well, that was a confirmation, right? This band is so unpredictable that, as I?m reading you guys saying, if this line up tour for like 3 years (like the "nugnr" did keep touring for the last 15 years) and just STOP, and then Tommy, Ron, Dj come back... SEEMS LIKE NO ONE WILL SAY "WHAT TA HELL!! WHERE?S THE OTHERS?!?".

At this point you really can't go back again. I mean maybe Tommy but the others I don't think so.

Replacing the replacement for the replacement gets kinda nuts.

Well it's pretty self-explanatory really-

Ashba is with SixxAM, Ron is off doing Cruises and stuff, Tommy is off with Mr.Thumby- It isn't like they disappeared.

They just aren't in GNR anymore, I don't get the need for drama.

Tommy says...I found myself somewhat recently a single father to an 8 year old 24/7. I've gotta take care of her, so she's out there living the best she can. So I have to be here for that.  He says he plans to tour this summer before she goes back to school in the fall.

All-the-while he?s trying to work around his 8-year-old daughter?s school schedule. But Stinson says being a single-father hasn?t just changed his work schedule.  ?It changes everything,? says Stinson. ?It changes, you know, your focus. It changes your entire outlook on things. It makes what was once frivolous a lot more frivolous. It makes what was once important really important.?

What would be really nice to see is if this lineup is around for a while, guest spots from some of the post-94 players. Circle complete.
