I don't know if this is a bit of a dead horse topic, or whether it should be merged with another existing thread, but what are your hopes for Libertad? Like first single selection, what would you wanna hear - a rocker, or something more laidback?
I'm really excited at the prospect of Libertad and another album full of new Slash riffs and solos...
But that said, I think VR have a tough job ahead of them to come out with a new lead single for Libertad that will top Slither. Slither is still one of my fav rock tracks of the past few years, with it's slow menacing build-up, great riff, killer Slash solo and killer outro where the whole band is just rocking out.
Oh, and I'm not interested in hearing stuff like "VR suck" or "Contraband sucked" etc
Please save that for another thread and try to keep this positive.

Contraband was a good album but I want them to have a more concentrated effort.
I want the songs to flow a little bit better, be a little more hashed out and a little more complex.

Yeah, I have pretty high hopes regarding the 'Slash sound' from what Dave has said in some updates about Brendan helping them get some great guitar tones and such.
That alone already gives me much more hope considering the last producer apparently was inexperienced or something with recording guitar sounds...
I also really liked the few clips we heard in the VR Blog #3.

I would like to hear some more Slash.. Contraband has way more classic style Slash solos than some people try to make it out to have but I still would like some more.... Or actually just more lead guitar in general, like leading up to the solos and outros... Also I think all the singles should be rocking... Even though FTP was pretty huge, it was also a momentum killer. It' sone of those song sthat makes peopel sick of a band....

More guitar, more Slash and hopefully less experimentation with Strats and stuff. I definitely don't want an album with a 12-string, acoustic, keyboard and a hell of another 20 instruments on one song.
Bass + Guitars + Drums + Vocals.
Keep it simple.

I've always really enjoyed the bass lines that Duff lays down. They always gave GNR a heavy sound, and had a good groove to them.

If you have this kind of hopes, save these for another album!
Back to the topic:
I want
More Slash
More different riffs during the songs. Not like Slither (which I really like) and some other songs where you can hear the same thing over and over again.
A more diverse record - both music and sound wise.

People will probably slam this, but i want AFD2. And i totally disagree that Contraband was anything like AFD, it was very different, and worse, but there were glimmers here and there. I did enjoy a lot of it, but i think they could do better. More melodic solos, i think.

The first single will have to be a rocker, somethings that's fast pace.
I'm hoping this album will sound as diverse as the vlogs are leading us to believe.
"Mesages They Left" sounds like a potential radio friendly single, it's harmony is definitely catchy.
I expect a completely stripped down version of the band's sound. Hell Matt is even getting out of his rutt and changing his beats acording to the clips we hear in the vlogs.

you just compared Contraband, which isn't bad don't get me wrong, to a legendary album that is probably one of the top 5 all time? one that hasn't been replicated since then? one that no album has ever matched it's success?
you're kidding right?

Thinking about it some more...in addition to more Snakepit style slash solos...i'd actually like to see the songs have a little more diverse structure too. Like don't get me wrong - I LOVE VR - but a couple of the songs are a little Repetitious in that its the same lyrics/riffs over and over...(big machine comes to mind). But then i find a few STP songs like that too - very cool riffs and ideas..but usually one verse repeat too many for me....
But i have high hopes for VR, there is so much untaped potential in that line up!

Remember that little Slash/Duff/Matt video jam that lasted like 1 and a half minute and was available before the "Project" days?
I am hoping for a sound like that song.
I am also hoping for a sound like "Come on, Come in".
That song is catchy and has a good drive.
I like it.

Fuck this "slash finding a sound" just do the same shit you did from 87-2000.... I mean, he got a little browner at times, but that was the peak tone. Fuck strats and all that ohter shit. Stick with the Paul and bring it up in the mix. I want a guitar album. I will take another Contraband if t rocks. We had 3 slow ones on that album.

Judging from the clips, Im hoping and expecitng an album full of chemistry, with the Blues of Slash, Snake Vocals of Scott, Aggressive Punk from Duff *Who HOPEFULLY SINGS
* and more DeadPan beats from Matt *only kidding, hes good...*. BUT MOST OF ALL,
I WANT GOOD PRODUCTION!!! I WANT TO HEAR THE SOLOS THIS TIME AROUND!!!
But luckily with Brendon this time they'll find their sound. I Know they will!

sick baselines
groovey
more experimental, diverse songs
cool beats
and lastly but most important, i want it to rock the fuck out

YES!
This little clip sounds so great - it sounds better than the entire Contraband album!
Actually I am starting to hate Scott Weiland. I think he chose the worst songs and he did a terrible job singing them! I think that I need a instrumental version of Contraband! The only song in which I think he does a great job is Come on, Come in.

I didnt like Contraband, but i thought Scotts vocals were fine. The production wasnt good though. the riffs sounded too modern. I do like the 80's vibe i get from the VLOG's posted so far, but there only tiny clips.

I hope that they take more risks in regards to experimenting with different sounds and song structures. I'm hoping for more "signature" riffs. And I hope that Slash really goes all out on this album. Much of Contraband seemed like Slash was holding back, on both riffs and solos. Contraband was a good album but in many ways too safe. Take more risks and unleash the beast on this one

Hard question to answer, really.
I loved Contraband, so all I can really hope for is that I enjoy Libertad as much.
Don't really have any expectations as far as the music style goes. Contraband had a lot of modern touches, which I enjoyed ... but if they decide to make this one with a bit more of a "classic rock" vibe about it (some of the vlog clips certainly give me that impression) I can totally see myself digging that as well.
I also hope Dave Kushner's role in the band will be expanded upon. I want more duelling kickass riffs (like in
Headspace
) instead of just his effects and textures underneath Slash's stuff. And give the bugger a solo or two - he's proven his chops during the live shows.
Better production/mixing (almost guaranteed with Brendan O'Brien on board). And maybe a bit more diversity in song structure / song progression than we had with Contraband.
