Axl's collaboration
«
on:
August 27, 2007, 12:04:04 PM »
Since the calm has returned, let's talk about something else.
I was watching a videoclip of Evanescence (nevermind this band, it's just what led me to think what I'm writing) this weekend and as I saw her playing the piano I wondered: do you think Axl could be regarded, now or in the future, as a "legend" that other musicians would like to play/write songs with?
Let me make it clearer: do you remember GNR's duet with Elton John at one VMA's and how that was pretty cool. Could you imagine Axl doing something similar at a show with some other artist? And I'm not counting the Sebastian thing, because they're real close friends. I mean some band or singer of the "new generation" that regards Axl as this iconic figure or a personnal idol and would ask him to join them and play with them.
And, another point, on the statement Axl made at gunsnroses.com he says "since I'm rarely asked to do anything I'd actually enjoy or be glad to be a part of". So, with what kind of artists do you think Axl would be enjoy to play?
I, for one, think that all of these scenarios will only be possible after CD is released and GNR and Axl regain their part as an important and relevant band.

I dont have any doubt Axl is an Icon for some of this new bands, and many would do anything for a chance to be on stage with him...the real question is, will he accept stuff like that? He accepted Bach cause they are close friends...would he have accepted if the invite was from Evanescence for example?

yes he was! First Kravitz had health problems, and when he was ok, it was too late for Axl to travel half world...
It would be strange since Kravitz is a great friend of Slash

To answer your question - Yes
I believe he is that good that a lot of bands would be honored to share the stage with him
He also has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way though, and that may go against him
Either way, I'd be honored to jam with the guy!

He shared the stage with The Rolling Stones, Queen, Aerosmith, Elton John, Tom Petty, Gilby Clarke, Alice Cooper, Bono, Bruce Springfield, Bubbles, Sebastian Bach, Angry Anderson and I'm sure I'm forgetting some others so I'm sure it will happen again. Why not?

and he could ill afford the time then according to RS.
"But tonight, their drummer reverts to his teenage fan days, asking Rose for a picture and to guest on Papa Roach's next album. Rose strikes a pose and then graciously refers the fellow rocker to his management.
After all,
before he lends his talents to others' projects, Rose has one of his own to finish
, and he says it's getting there."

would he have accepted if the invite was from Evanescence for example?
If invited respectfully by Amy herself and if he has time to spare, I imagine, he would.

Yeah, that's what I thought, too.
But I imagine that nowadays a lot of people still think he is "nowhere to be found" and a little bit in the shadows. I mean, almost all news about him comes with some bash or joke about the album.
And I think that it would be a complete different scenario once CD is released.

His guest vocals w. Gilby N' Don Henley were barely audible..Hopefully on Sebastian Bach's new CD they will be more like the vocals on 14 Years, Dust N' Bones, So Fine and Alice Coopers "Under My Thumb".

It would be interesting to see Axl colaborating with someone like Chrissie Hynde or David Bowie or could you imagine the project that Axl and Roger Waters could put together...it'd probably never get finished

Agreed. To be honest, I think it'd be hard to find someone in the industry that really wouldn't want to collaborate with Axl.

Robert Plant, Steven Tyler, Axl Rose, Mick Jagger, Ozzy, Kiss, AC/DC.
Any musician now should wish to work with any one of these people/groups.

Might not be a factor. Kravitz was in the V.I.P. section to the right of the stage during the second Hammerstein show.

I don't see how my age matters, but just so you know I'm 27.
I don't think money is the issue here. He doesn't seem like someone that would do anything for money or that needs money so desperately to do that, to play with someone que doesn't enjoy. If money was the case he would play with Slash.
And of course Axl has done a lot of collaborations in the past with lots of different people, but that is what I'm talking about: that was when Guns was begging to be worldwide famous. Axl was the new guy joining classic big names like Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler and Elton John. Even then, he was so great - Guns was so great and at it's peak - that everyone would love to join then.
But now it's a little bit different. Axl is the "Big Name", he is this mythic guy. My question is: today, without Chinese Democracy, do you thing new bands would think "we should invite Axl to play with us, he is so great" or "we can't invite Axl, he hasn't even finished his record, the guy is a joke"?
In time: this is not a bash and I do think he is great.

I honestly believe that most people are just plain intimidated by the idea of Axl Rose.
I think most people may not look into involving him because he's got this "hermit" type reputation and they figure he just won't show up or be hard to deal with. I cannot understand that from everything I've heard. The Rosario & Michael J. stuff from last year showed me that Axl will show up and do some nice things when invited.
