There's nothing wrong with the UYI albums as they are, I wouldn't take off any tracks.

You can't really say that they did badly either due to the amount of songs, they debuted at Number 1 & 2 on the charts when they were released and continued to sell pretty damn well too.

There is no way you can leave out November Rain. I realize this is all opinionated,  but it is just wrong to leave out the song that practically defined the GnR of the 90's. Without this song, I strongly doubt they would be even half as famous.
Quote

Although I agree that if there was to be a single CD Illusions, November Rain SHOULD be on it, but if it wasn't, I think it would be fair to say that Estranged would fill in for it. Estranged IMO is one of the best GnR songs.
What I'd like to know is what would have happened had it been on AFD... The other songs, and then Estranged. Would the reviews have been any different?
But..... here's my list. You evil, evil people!
1. You Ain't the First
2. Don't Cry (alt lyrics)
3. Civil War
4. The Garden
5. 14 Years
6. Dead Horse
7. Back Off Bitch
8. Get In The Ring
9. November Rain
10. Don't Damn Me
11. Yesterdays
12. Pretty Tied Up (The Perils of Rock n' Roll Decadence)
13. KOHD
14. Don't Cry (original)
15. Coma
16. Estranged

I put Estranged at the end so that when it ends, you feel nice and satisfied, instead of having to rush to switch back so you don't have to listen to My World... having that after Don't Cry really gives you a shock! DC just finishes, and you feel nice and relaxed, and then My World comes on and it makes you go "AAAH!" So having Estranged at the end makes for a nice ending.

I like the Illusions as they are, but okay, if there was only one single-disc Use Your Illusion album, this would be my tracklist:

1. Civil War
2. You Could Be Mine
3. Bad Obsession
4. Don't Cry [Original]
5. Yesterdays
6. Back Off Bitch
7. Breakdown
8. Don't Damn Me
9. The Garden
10. Estranged
11. Knockin' On Heaven's Door
12. Coma

I had to cut out November Rain, even though it was the song that got me into Guns N' Roses.  And that's because Estranged is even better, and there can only be one 10 minute piano epic with introspective lyrics and amazing Slash solos on this single-disc Use Your Illusion.  The thing I find is that there are so many long epic songs on the UYI albums that they practically HAVE to be on two discs to conserve all those long songs.  If you tried to fit them all on one record, there would be so many epic songs that you couldn't have good pacing, and you would miss out on a lot of rockers.

I think we're all glad GN'R put out two discs rather than one, for the simple reason that we got more great music!  And with a band as relatively short-lived as Guns N' Roses, I think that's another blessing for us to count.

You know how there are those albums being released these days, the 'deluxe edition' or 'legend series' albums? For the uneducated basically it's the album, with a 2nd and/or 3rd cd of extra material with a dvd of the videos and doco's studio footage etc with everything remasterd, all in new packaging with a new booklet. I think it would be a great idea to have both UYI albums and and an extra cd of live songs + b-sides from that time. Along with a disc of all the videos and a doco or something. Who else agrees?

I don't think any of the songs shouldn't have been Axed by Axl.  All were good/unique/artsy/rockin in thier own way.  Overall, each album alone are VERY long (vs. other rock n roll albums, which may only run 35 min!)
I know many of you agree that "my world" isn't all that good (I myself rarely listen to that track)...but when I do, it puts a twisted smile on my face---it's sorta funny.
APF and UYIs are VERY different albums in every sense of the word--even when dealing with this topic of excessiveness vs. raw power.  But it still amazes me that GNR had the creativity to due such an act and pull it off VERY sucessfully!
