I have been told that the official site will be "drastically revamped" by December. Hopefully, this means that the wheels will be turning soon.

 Cool

One thing that I noticed a couple of days ago about the site is that if you view the page info there is an expiration date. I am using Firefox by the way. I don't think IE will tell you expiration dates of web pages.... In fact, I'm not even sure how you specify such a thing and I am a web designer. But, most sites do not have an expiration date when I view page info with Firefox.

The date it gives for the gnronline.com is: Saturday, December 11, 2004 2:15:59 PM (Maybe this is when the new site will go live???)

I doubt this means anything... Does anyone know anything about this?

OK so now I know what it means.... someone has specified an expiration date.  So basically if you have the page in cache and it is after December 11, 2004 your browser will grab the newest copy again from the server. Maybe they are planning updates for that time?

Here's a better explanation I found:

Setting Expiration Information
Overview

You can give every page or script on the server an expiration date. The expiration date can either be in the form of an absolute date, such as January 1, 2000, or a relative date, such as 600 minutes from the time the page was first downloaded by the client browser. If a client browser requests that same page again before the expiration date and time, then the client browser uses its own cached copy.

« Reply #9 on: October 22, 2004, 04:13:35 PM »

FYI, a lot of the time the expiration date on a website is just set to a default time in the future.  It's possible someone set it specifically to that time, but I would guess it's more just a coincidence than anything else.  Who knows, though.

Yep, it would be a rumor as well, unless you claim you made that up. You can't tell if he made it up or if someone actually told him that so with the benefit of the doubt, we label it as a "rumor".

Concerning gnronline, they used it as well in 2002 so I'm guessing they will continue to use it. They can't take the domain name chinesedemocracy.com though.

Can you tell us at least one of the other sites?  It shouldn't be an issue to reveal them, since there's nothing new on the sites anyway.

I don't buy it for a second. Read his thread about getting the new U2 album (Bad Obsession section). Universal themselves have only distributed three copies worldwide, which are secured and in the hands of their top execs. And it ends up in his hands? I don't think so.

Here's the short and skinny of it:

Expiry date:
All web pages have to have an expiry date.  This is in order to ensure web content is kept accurate and fresh.  By default the date is set as one year from when the page was created

Action on expiry:
Web pages are set by default to ?notify only?, i.e. the page owner will be notified one year after the page has been created in order for them to review the page. This date can be amended to an appropriate one for the page and the following options are available upon the page reaching its expiry date:

Notify only ? an email will be sent to the page creator to remind them to review it

Notify and retire ? an email will be sent to the page creator but the page will be automatically removed from the site navigation

Notify and delete ? the page will be deleted from the system and the page creator advised by email

Question is, when was this page created? Could it have been December 11th last year? I can' remember any specific updates around that time that could account for this.

Also, was this date always there for the last 6 months/year or has it been added recently to indicate that something will be changing on that date?

Is it possible to check this using a saved copy of the page that someone has from a few months ago?

Page Info in Firefox says that the page was created June 9th, 2003.

By using WayBack Machine for gnronline (this link),
I can get the Page Info for the page visible on June 13th, 2003. It has the same expiry date as now.

Damnit, how's that possible? If that was a default setting, I thought it would be one year later, i.e. June 9th 2004.

Of course, it can't have been put in on purpose, as that's too far in advance.

Oh well....

Most of this is meaningless jargon and crap but some of it is relevant, just shows who owns the various sites and when the registrations expire. There are also some emails and addresses if anyone thinks it's worth a letter asking for info'.
Note that Axl owns www.gunsnroses.com & www.waxlrose.com and the record company have www.gnronline.com. When i start to see some action on axls sites i'll believe we have progress. I think these three sites would be the ones to keep an eye on as they expire soon, if these are not renewed (i'm sure they will be) then we have lost all hope of CD as it would mean lack of interest from all parties.
Sorry to take you so much space but i thought it may be of interest to some...

« Reply #40 on: October 24, 2004, 12:54:52 PM »

I heard that GNR and VR are going to join together as GNRNVR a 12 man band with two lead singers 4 lead guitars (new guitarist Boogerhead) 2 more guitarist 2 bassist and 2 drummers and Dizzy says the album will come out soon and is called North Korean Democracy.  I have two sources the first one is PURE and the second is www.gnfr.com. yes

GNR for fucking ever.

Yeah,a janitor at Geffen, who's a  friend of a friend of my dad's told me he overheard the exact same thing. Also,I heard that in the days of old GNR,Axl and Slash were actually lovers, but Axl couldn's stand Slash coming home drunk every night

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but it seems the gnronline description in DMOZ and google have been updated to read:

"Includes news and information on Chinese Democracy expected February 2005."

Just search google for Guns N Roses and you should see it.

Sentence still ends with "Chinese Democracy" for me.

Just saw it. That's pretty weird that they put that up there. Sounds like good news though.

Didnt people on this board already establish a couple of months ago that the google descriptions are made by ordinary internet users on a public database or something and not by Geffen/Interscope or any other body remotely related to Guns n Roses.

The site has definately been updatd in the past 6 months. They now have a GNR merchandise link. It used to show only 2 links that both went to a blank page. Now theres CD's shirts and lots of other stuff for sale..

well for some reson it does say feb on google.  It's kinda strange that the 2 months talked about as a release date were Nov and Feb.   Both dates were mentioned by band members and now they are both on google.  I know people say that google could have done this but I kinda think it was caused by geffen.

If you want to talk about Gnronline.com, check the thread in the Dead Horse section.

The guy who posted this rumor failed to provide any info to me, even though I promised I wouldn't say anything to anybody. Still he didn't care to prove this rumor is more than just a rumor.
