When all I've got is precious time

« on: November 02, 2006, 01:55:29 PM »

There is a rumor floating around that the checkmate clip that came out a few months ago may in fact be a clip of prostitute and the name checkmate is not the title of the song but a metaphor  and a FU to managment because the leak is out there. Yes merck said that checkmate is not a gnr song, but im sure checkmate is not a title of a gnr song so in a way he is not lying.  Also even if it was you know merck would not tell us it was.

I like that thought... you may be right, but we won't know until CD hits or we get a full leak.  I vaguely remember how it sounded in the leaked demo, but I don't recall being overly impressed or thinking that it had the new-gnr sound... but who knows.

Just the thought of yet more power chords on a GN'R song  crying

not only the sound of the voice is axl, also the line that is sung must be written by him: so typical... wonder how that song continues (hope stronger than the 16 secs we have)... smoking

I somewhat agree... Not about the power chords though... but I dont think the song is that good, and the vocals were weak....Axl 2002 weak

I'm sorry...I read stuff like this and I chuckle. ?Not at you, for thinking it...but at the history that surrounds comments of the same type.

Keep in mind, I'm not saying you're wrong. ?I agree, it does sound somewhat like Axl.

But then I harken back to the "My Favorite Pillow" incident and wonder if Coy Clarke (or someone like him) is still out there singing somewhere (though I know Ghost Town Road disbanded) and is once again fooling us all. ?And I chuckle.....

I gotta hunt that song down again. ?I know I have it somewhere....and I keep telling myself I'll go looking for it but never do make it around to it.

"Checkmate" is clearly Axl....
I listen to GNR hours every single day, no exceptions... and that is DEFFINETLY Axl Rose.
Also, the leaker gave this clip to Razz and explained that the title isn't Checkmate but is just a shot at management, so you were right Dave.

Live and in studio is different. Axl live doesnt sound like Axl studio. ?This is a studio track, if its not axl I would be very suprised.

Yes dave, we know. ?There were many doubters (me included). ?But being right then doesn't make you more likely to be right now, if you think checkmate is GnR. ?Everyone can be "fooled", intentionally or unintentionally. ?And that's my point...just that.

When people assert they're SURE it's axl, I remember all the well respected, experienced posters, who had heard GnR in all forms, who were sure MFP was Axl. ?And it makes me chuckle...not at them...but at what tends to happen to fans who are "sure" of something in relation to GnR.

For the people that dont think its gnr, then why did merck freak when this song was leaked online? If it was not gnr in this song those threads would have just been locked and not deleted completely. Also like I said its a rumor that its prostitute (or even another gnr song) but checkmate is not the title. And like I said, merck always chooses his words carefully. He said that checkmate is not a gnr song. That just means that there is not gnr song named checkmate. He NEVER said its not axl. And now that he caught the person who had the clip, its not going to leak untilhe gave it to someone else.
