Welcome Back To The Jungle

« on: February 23, 2012, 07:18:15 AM »

I'm going to the show in Silver Spring tonight, and wanted to see if any of you had any tips for meeting the band after the show, such as out back where they go to the bus and such.

The last 3 times I've seen GNR, I've taken people who weren't the biggest fans with me and they weren't willing to wait around, but I'm going alone tonight.

Is something like this even viable?

Your best bet would be to hang out maybe in back of the venue where they exit to catch an autograph, but I think the band likes to relax a bit and unwind at the place before leaving so it may be a long wait.

Sounds good. I have no issues with a long wait, that's one of the reasons I'm going alone tonight.

I waited for two hours after Chicago and met the band.  Me and a couple of other guys were super cool about giving them space and time to chill, asked if we could say hi, and had a nice chat with them.  Axl came out and signed my shirt and some other items before being escorted into his car.  The key was asking security where we could stand and wait (if at all) and not rushing the band.  They just worked their asses off for a good show, have to respect if they just want time alone.

I will definitely try this tactic, thanks so much!

Venue security threatened to bring the police and have us arrested for waiting out back.

They were huge assholes about it. Everyone who was out there was sitting patiently and quietly. I would have understood if the band had been tired/busy, but to me that should be their call to just get in the car and leave, not have fans chased off under threat of arrest.

I never wait around after a show in the hopes of meeting the band.....but I maybe should. I just hate the feeling of the bandmembers being really tired but are too kind to say "no", and go out their way to meet you. I know in most cases the band are all too happy to meet fans after shows, but you have to remember that they have just give a 3 plus hour show and need to travel to the next show.

I have been lucky enough to meet Ron twice and Duff once. The first one with Ron was in the Hard Rock Hotel in 2006, and then the 2nd time was a meet N' greet like Duff's as well. So all three times were natural instances, when I never felt bad about taking up their time.

I also saw Del James on the London underground in 2010, when GN'R were playing the 02 Arena shows. But again I never went over to say "hi", simply because I knew he probably just wanted to go about his journey in London, which is fair enough.

So, I'm all for meeting bandmembers when I know 100% they are OK, with it. But I hate the feeling of pestering bandmembers when it's common sense that they probably just want a quiet walk to their bus, and maybe catch a few winks on their way to another city.

Just my reason for never waiting after a show in my 23 times (so far) seeing GN'R...  peace

I completely understand, and I would never feel slighted if a band member just didn't feel up to meeting fans after a show. They don't owe me that.

I just think it should be their call, and that the venue shouldn't treat the paying customers like crap.

No, I saw Del James with a GN'R technician (don't know his name, but he sets up the stage for GN'R). And this was during the daytime, around 1 or 2pm on the London underground. We was catching the tube on opposite sides of the platform, and I could clearly see the 2 of them on the other side of the track. They did kind of look over at me because I had my GN'R shirt on, but I just respectfully kept on smiling and got about my business of waiting for my tube. Their tube came before mine, and I saw Del and the tech get on and headback towards Canary Wharf. They must have had a day of checking stuff out in Greater London, and was heading back to where the band was staying, where that was I don't know.  Smiley
