Title: Jet
Post by: highvoltage on October 15, 2004, 10:19:25 AM
Bound to stimulate some interesting conversation. People are pretty evenly split on the subject of JET - they either love them or despise them. I'm a member of the latter camp myself.

http://www.novatekz.com/jetsuck

My Anti-Jet website. If you're a JET fan, then don't bother writing essay-long reponses on why my page is completely wrong etc. Try to see the humorous side - all the points on the site are exaggerated for that very reason.

However, if you desperately feel the need to slag the page out - be concise and get to the point.

Enjoy...

They most certainly are a very average band though i have heard very little said about them over here.....

I don't hate them, but I don't love them either. I think thatthe fact that bands like Jet get so much attention is clear proof that Rock ain't what it used to be

I don't care for Jet but I certainly can find better ways to spend my time than creating a webpage about my dislike for them.

Really? I suppose it's different for me being Australian, where Jet are all that's been talked about for the past 6 months.

Took less than an hour to make. I thought that would be really obvious, considering how dodgy the design is, and how bad the article is.

Jet made a solid album and like you say on your site maybe they can thank MTV for making it big but regardless it is a catchy and fun listen. In fact I think I'll plug it  into the stereo right now.

I really don't see what's solid about a band slapping together 13 tracks of recycled music, adding some dodgy lyrics and a few boring solos.

But hey - each to his own...right? ;)

Haven't even checked out your webpage but i can tell you why they're overatted...they suck! and they're not even big here in the states, that song "are you gonna be my girl" was a hit but they've fallen off the radar ever since.

:hihi:
They hit it big in Australia - and I think they're a little popular in the UK.

They never really cracked into the American music scene.

"Cold Hard Bitch" and "Rollover DJ" has gotten play here. The former seemed to have gotten pretty good airplay for a while.

That song is the one where they slapped some blah lyrics over an Iggy Pop riff - cant remember the name of the Iggy song...my mind is too tired rt now.

But they had another song that got a fair amount of radio airplay in LA: Cold hard bitch.? I like that song.

I dont really love em or hate em.? I think they'll get better with time? :peace:

Iggy Pop - Lust for Life

I have their cd, (got it used for real cheap) and only listended to it once...even then it was difficult but i made myself hear the entire album just so i'd know.  Many of the songs on it are sappy, slow, boring ballads.  I mean if you claim to be some awesome new rock band, don't fill up over half of your debut album with slow boring songs.  Damn you Jet. Damn you.

Ah the hell with u Jet haters. Jet aren't a great rock band. They just set themselves apart with today's rock groups. There's nothing wrong with them. They've got a few catchy tunes and some good riffs in there as well. They swept the ARIA awards here in Australia 2 nights ago with 6 ARIAS.

Go JET : ok:

yeah thats true man, Jet are cool, it's just the radio fuckin' killed them for me, i like the songs i had'nt heard when i bought it, fuck you Triple M

jet annoy me because their riffs are blatantly stolen from other songs.

ok with every song or riff you can basically say "that sounds like this, or that sounds like that", but with JET their riffs actually are "this" and "that".

lets just say once i was playing Takin care of business on guitar and people said "oh cool Rollover DJ i love that song". thats what annoys me.

if someone asks me to play look what you've done i play hey jude and everybody is none the wiser. Apart from a few sections the progression is almost identical.

i must give them some credit though, they write catchy hooks, even if they are over stolen riffs.

but all music is is stolen riffs and songs etc, its just how much you change them and what you do with them etc. Subconsciously all musicians when creating a song it will probably sound like a song they've heard before or whatever but jet's is very very very very very obvious.

anyway i've been sidetracked, atleast rock n roll is somewhere.

although i was ashamed for the arias, is JET really the best Australia can do for rock n roll?

i'll change that  :hihi: :smoking:

Meh, JET aren't great - but they're better than that godawful website.

Tell you what, for one moment just ignore the bands you don't like.  Why not design a website about some bands that you do like?

Iggy Pop - Lust for Life

yeah, that's it - the original lyrics are great.

jet annoy me because their riffs are blatantly stolen from other songs.

ok with every song or riff you can basically say "that sounds like this, or that sounds like that", but with JET their riffs actually are "this" and "that".

I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?  :hihi:  Nah, I agree they should have tried to put their own signature on the riffs.   But I like the singer's voice, so I'm hoping they'll be more original in the next album.

i'll change that  :hihi: :smoking:

watch out, you're gonna have to deal with people making websites about 'Why Oddy's Band is Overrated'  (j/k)  ;D

Jet are definately overrated.

For some time I've noticed that the riff from 'Are you gonna be my girl' and the whole song really, is the most overplayed and overrated bit of 'rock' out there.  On English tv nearly every channel has had an advert or programme with that bastard song as its theme tune.  It's bearable when you only hear it occasionally, but to put Jet on some sort of pedestal can only mean one thing - rock sucks at the moment!  Rollover DJ is also average in extremis.

first off. i think the sites funny.

i love jet, n i love the sound they make. when u think about it, all rock music comes from base riffs and sounds created by predesssors. it all coms from the same tree.

I saw their first Videoclip on MTV and they are very good. good band. I love their music and their style, old-fashion Rock n' Roll style you know... I think they can be popular. They have potencial.

If they added some solo's and had a little more aggression then i might like 'em, at the mo they are just typical MTV rock, i.e average.

if you look back several pages there will be that funny Jet thread with a link to that web-site!  I think jet are a bollocks band, but I'm sure I'll get plenty of opportunities to hear their new stuff.

I am not a fan. Their first song "are you gonna be my girl" was alrite. Slash said it best when he called them diluted AC/DC. Everything from the singer to the guitars is softer. Their new song "look what you've done" has a cool Beatles vibe at first but ends up being extremely monotonous. And "roll over dj" might be the worst lyrics of any song I have ever heard. That song makes Milli Vanilli Lyrics sound like Morrison.

Oh God, they must be bad then, AC/DC are boring enough.

Boring? How the fuck can pure rock n roll with agggresive riffs and solo's and 2 excellent frontmen Bon Scott and Brian Johnon be boring?

Jet are massive in Australia i guess cos there from here. They did an extensive tour in the states that got them some publicity which i guess was the reason they won an Mtv award. But they haven't cracked the states yet. And i don't think the U.K knows much about them.

I can't stand Jet, I'm embarrassed as an Australian that they are representing our country in the "rock" genre.

They sound just like Slash said - diluted AC/DC. I don't get why a band that sounds like really average rehashed Stones / AC/DC / Beatles is so popular in 2004.

But I guess if the radio/video channels feed the "sheep" enough crap, eventually the "sheep" will start buying and listening to them.

Damn, I hate popular music...

Jet Breaks Up

Australian rockers Jet, best known for their 2003 anthem "Are You Gonna Be My Girl," have called it quits.

In a message posted to the group's website, the quartet announced that its members -- Nic Cester, Mark Wilson, Cameron Muncey and Chris Cester -- are parting ways. "After many successful years of writing, recording and touring we wish to announce our discontinuation as a group," reads the message. "From the many pubs, theatres, stadiums and festivals all across the world it was the fans that made our amazing story possible and we wish to thank them all. Thank you, and goodnight."

"Are You Gonna Be My Girl," the garage-rock cut from first album "Get Born," was featured in a 2003 Apple iPod commercial and has sold 1.3 million downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan. "Get Born," which also featured "Cold Hard Bitch" and "Rollover DJ," has sold 1.7 million copies in the U.S., while their final two full-lengths, 2006's "Shine On" and 2009's "Shaka Rock," combined for 212,000 U.S. copies.

That sucks I always liked this band
