I am surprised no Izzy albums make my top 5.  Its a travesty that Beautiful Disease was never released.  Such a solid album.

the first Snakepit only for the potential it had as the then next guns work,
Neurotic outsiders,
the acoustic Izzy,Fire
and i'll go with the last Loaded.The taking. It's the most mature Duff,musically with the metallic punky hard rock they play in that record.

Given my username it's probably no surprise that my 2nd fav to Guns is anything Gilby. In particular Pawnshop, Swag,  Col Parker and yes Rockstar Supernova's lone album. Whatever else they weren't, at least that albums songs were catchy old skool rock.

I am so intrigued by your list.  Do you like Apocalyptic Love more than the S/T Slash album?  That would be shocking to me.  I don't have any Izzy albums in my top 5 and neither do you, but I am surprised that you have Adler's album on there over any Izzy stuff.

I am so intrigued by your list.  Do you like Apocalyptic Love more than the S/T Slash album?  That would be shocking to me.  I don't have any Izzy albums in my top 5 and neither do you, but I am surprised that you have Adler's album on there over any Izzy stuff. 

Slash's two solo albums are about equal to me.  It really depends on what day you ask me.  They're different enough that I can't truly decide, and I like that.

To be honest, I've never really liked Izzy's solo material, and I've owned at least 5 of his CDs in the past.  To me, Izzy's voice is extremely weak and never engages me.  His songwriting is decent, but I think he always worked better in an environment where ideas were bounced off and developed between band members.  Izzy's music is okay but extremely rote; he just isn't a "killer/classic riff" kind of guitarist.

Steven's album isn't exactly a phenomenon, but it does contain some good hooks and catchy melodies (such as the song "Waterfall"), enough to make me listen to it more than once (though not exactly every day).  That puts it above Izzy's albums for me.

I think this is a great idea for a topic/thread, in this section!  Interesting the different picks.  You know - Gilbyfan is all Gilby and IzzyDutch, well...    It's ok - you like what you like.    ToonGuns had a great list, and I like that he included Buckethead. 

I'm with Bridge, I guess.  I've listened to probably all of Izzy's albums, and they're  ok - sort of Keith Richards/Rolling Stonish, but nothing that really caught my ear.  I have to say, I don't think I've ever listened to Adler's stuff.  Duff's various projects are ok, too, but nothing I've felt compelled to listen to frequently. 

I find it interesting, around here, that so many people loved the first Snakepit album, and I think maybe because it came out at a particular place in time and was supposed to be what could have been the next Guns album - whatever.  I don't really care for it that much.  I love the 2nd Snakepit album - has a little more balls.

Not exactly an ex member album, but West Arkeen was GN'R #6 member and it's weird no one yet mentioned the Outpatience.
Every one gnr member appears and Anxious Disease features guests Slash and Axl Rose.

but it's unlikely they worked in the studio at the same time.... since it was released in 1997.
But it has some cool,some great some not so great songs

I find it interesting, around here, that so many people loved the first Snakepit album, and I think maybe because it came out at a particular place in time and was supposed to be what could have been the next Guns album - whatever.  I don't really care for it that much.  I love the 2nd Snakepit album - has a little more balls. 

For me, I realize its not an amazing album because obviously the singer leaves much to be desired, but it was the last time (in my opinion) we heard that GNR sleazy rock style of anyone from the UYI era.  You can make the argument about some songs of CD, but I think they are more in the vein of Axl songs like Estranged than say Perfect Crime or You Ain't the First.  I like Contraband a lot, but I don't think its a true 'GNR' sounding album either even with 3 of the UYI era members in the band.

Strangely enough I agree with Axl on one thing about that album.  There are some great ideas that would make good GNR songs, but they needed a bit more work.  Slash was in such a rush to keep the train going that once Axl 'rejected' them he released them.  I think Ain't Life Grand is a more cohesive album because Slash was trying to create a band at that point, but it was after Slash had some time to deflate after GNR was on hiatus.  He was still living that party hard GNR lifestyle during 5 O'Clock. 

Curious to know what anyone else thinks of 5 O'Clock....

i find 5 o'clock somewhere an ok album, well played. some cool songs but nothing more. i like good to be alive.


i would give a shout out to duffs new album with a band called WALKING PAPERS. i saw them live and they kick ass big time! could easily fit into top7

Ain't Life Grand kicks ass! I loved that album... bought it the day it came out (1st week in September I think from memory). Also saw them on that tour in Sheffield Corporation - one of the only gigs they did the UK on that tour (think the other one was in London). Such a small venue, still chuffed I went to that gig. Just Like Anything is a great song. Serial Killer has an amazing solo - wish they'd play more of this stuff in Slash's current band. AL wasn't really a patch on this album when put side by side - song writing, production, drumming - everything better on ALG.
