Title: | Arguments on playing the Old songs ... |
Post by: Where is Hassan Nasrallah ? on June 04, 2004, 01:33:39 PM
the old GNr songs.
alright.
basicly.

axl says " you guys wanna hear them, thats why i still play them "

slash says " I don't wanna play them because of all the spirit in them, and what they represent, i have too much respect for songs like paradise city (too much axl-related) , i play it's so easy because it's neutral "

i think that i'd love to hear VR play ParadiseCity and SweetChildOMine and all. so i'm glad that axl plays them, at least.
at the same time i really respect and understand what slash thinks.

what do you think ?

I'd wager VR doesn't play them because Scott probably can't sing them. His voice is completely different than what songs like Paradise City ask for.

Axl still plays them because his band is GnR and people who buy tickets to a GnR show want to hear GnR songs.

Would be a good laugh though  :hihi:

VR doesn't play these songs because i'd imagine Scott doesn't like them - he has no emotional attachment to them as with all musicians they obviously prefer to play their own stuff.

I am glad Axl still plays the original material, though i would prefer a bit more from the UYI albums and a bit more of the new stuff would be good too....

Weiland can barely do It's So Easy, the end especially sounds bad!!! I wouldn't want him to try Jungle or Paradise City, or even think about SCO'M.

I want Axl to keep playing the old stuff, just more of the UYI stuff. For Appetite he should just keep the norm: Jungle, Paradise City, SCO'M, etc.

Fuck that shit......no UYI material....Those songs should never be touched besides November Rain,Live And Let Die,Knockin' On Heavens Door.

Next Time round I want to hear MORE NEW MATERIAL and just the classic AFD and those mentioned above.

so you'd like VR to play these songs ?

you guys bitch about weiland and if he would attempt to sing paradise city.....what about when slash and duff let cypress hill go onstage and butcher it?  That was pretty much telling me slash doens't have too much of an attachment to it.

it was a fun and new way to do it.
i'd like that more than trying to imitate it ....

I really can't understand you guys. I don't like when Velvet Revolver are playing It's So Easy or any other GN'R song because Axl can the best singing them. On the other hand I also don't like when Axl sings these songs and some idiot with bucket on his face to play the guitar and some dickhead to play on the bass because Slash and Duff can the best playing that songs. There is no way someone to tell me that today's band is better than the old one. This is FUCKIN' BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!

Sorry for the horrible English!

Axl did NOT write ANY of the music to Loco Motive or Coma.  Research man... !

Seeing as neither band can do them to the level they should be playing them at, I think each band should maybe play one old song each. That'd work.

NuGNR do a good job of Sweet Child O' Mine, that works.

VR do a good job of I Used To Love Her- that works very well.

It is my opinion that neither Scott or Axl have the voice to nail GN'R stuff perfectly.
