Title: The "Axl Tapes" - I got an email from Axl's old bandmate -- (if this is true)
Post by: W 23 AXL II on August 24, 2004, 12:23:12 AM
Yes. I was in the band. I wrote all the songs, paid for, produced, and own the demos. I have always liked Axl, and yeah he may sue me, whatever. I think people will like them.

Thanks for your e mail.

Thanks.

Kevin"

Hey everyone,

These tapes have never before been for sale - they have never been on ebay.

They have been in storage for many years.  Axl was indeed a part of the band.  Keep in mind these guys were very young, in fact Axl's first time performing on stage was with Rapid Fire at Gazzarri's on the Sunset Strip.

There are more than twenty photos, flyers, newspaper clippings to go along with the 4 demo songs, which are very good actually, the quality is there. But more than anything this is a history adjustment and a chance to share it with his true fans.

Cheers!!

Axl's lawyers will be on this within hours......either they are legit in which case Axl will ban the release or they are fake in which case that guy will be sued.

I e-mailed him, and he said the tracks would hopefully be released by Christmas.

Just out of interest, I haven't been a GN'R fan for as nearly as long as most of you guys... but has anyone ever heard of Axl being in a band called Rapidfire ever?!

The first time I ever heard about it was from theaxltapes.com.. and I spend far too much time looking into this stuff.

The songs are currently being mixed. I hope to release them soon.
Hopefully by Christmas. I will keep you posted.

The songs are:
Ready To Rumble
All Night Long
The Prowler
On The Run

It is a good quality demo that is a must for any Axl fan. The
bandmembers were:

Axl Rose - Vocals
Kevin Lawrence - Guitar
Mike Hammernik - Bass
Chuck Gordon - Drums

There are plenty of pre tattoo Axl pictures to accompany the cd.

Please help spread the word.

Thanks.

No - its VERY suspicious that none of us have ever heard of this before - okay Axl and GNR's early days are vague at best but even so.....

The way i see this is he is about to visited by Axl's lawyers - and would be running a defamation lawsuit if he was lying, so he'd surely only go ahead if this was legit?

The 'tapes' are legit, they have been in storage for the past 20 years (in the original 8 track format).  The tracks were transfered to digital and are being prepared for release.
Why have you not heard of them before?  Because Kev didn't feel like releasing them.  FYI - the website www.theaxltapes.com has been up since 2002.  More info will come out with the CD.  Don't you think they should be released if only to correct and be a part of history?

Axl should just let this happen. He needs to focus on Chinese Democracy, not some songs he made when he was like 22 years old. Hopefully he doesnt bother, because as he (and all of us) can see it will come out either way. Look at Hollywood Rose and Greatest Hits.

Axl we want Chinese Democracy not this guys tapes of you. Let him do it, it wont do anything anyway. Dont waste your time.

8 track recording?  You mean like the 8 track before cassette tapes?  Cause Axl was about 12 when those made their last stand and by 14 those were gone and replaced by the cassette tape.

Yeah.... No, actually studio recordings are done on multi track machines, this isolates each instrument and/or voice. They go from reel to reel and then is mixed for tape, CD, or whatever.  Back then, 8 tracks were standard for most demo recording.
They are not actual 8 track tapes...

Kevin:
You can sum up my good friend Kevin Lawrence in the four letter domain PISS.com. No nickname here. You get what you get. Kevin registered PISS.com in 1996 as a joke. When Network Solutions denied the registration he was determined to appeal it. He soon enlightened a supervisor to the concept of freedom of speech. Needless to say the supervisor allowed it. He worked in the Ad Specialty business designing the promotions for Hard Rock Cafe, Sony pictures, Virgin Records as well as many others. The domain sat around collecting dust until Python Communications called and suggested that he put up a bannerfarm. Soon the type in traffic, and therefore the cash started rolling in.
He quickly turned it into a paysite and started the Nastybucks Webmasters Program. Kevin was born in New York, but spent most of his life in Santa Monica California. As a teenager he played in a rock band called Rapidfire with Axl Rose, before Axl started Hollywood Rose and then Guns 'n' Roses. Along with running PISS.com, Kevin is currently re-mixing the never before heard, first studio recordings of Rapidfire which feature a young Axl Rose for TheAxlTapes.com.Kevin is about as straight a shooter as they come. No bullshit here. "I try to keep my head above the shit. My reputation and my word is all I have." Kevin is easy to deal with, and easy to get in touch with. I consider him a friend as well as a great person to work with.

SO I don't think he is doing it for the money!!!
