Title: Would you have preferred Cornell in VR?
Post by: Wheres Izzy on October 11, 2004, 06:29:08 PM
I think it was that metal egdge interview posted somewhere where slash said something about chris cornell also having been discussed with the project. Something along the lines of he also ran in their circle I think. It got me thinking what VR woulda been like with Chris Cornell on vocals. I am a big fan of cornells so this is actually a tough call for me to make. I like the vibe of scott in VR alot but I think Cornell might be in my top 2 singers ever. His voice is just incredible. I just can't get into Audioslave tho like I liked soundgarden or even his solo stuff. I think it would have been pretty fucking awesome to have heard his voice with Slash, Duff, Matt, & Dave and he is a pretty damn good lyricist in my eyes.

what do YOU think?

It would have definitely been different, because IMO velvet revolver sounds more like STP than Gnr ever could or would. I would rather the ex-gunners stick to their roots than try to ride the wave. and Cornell is a good blend of the past, the present, and the future.

I love VR with Scott.....but the band with Cornell would have been just sick. He has crazy vocal range, and I think they really would have blown the doors off the music world with him at the helm.

No way, Scott is the best choice, It wouldn't be VR without Weiland, Cornell is good in Audioslave.

i am psychotic over scott weiland!

Scott is a fuckin rockstar a true personality that is all his own

cornell can sing higher and has more range but i prefer Scott's voice

Cornell's lyrics arent any better than Scotts either and scott is a far superior frontman, just watch him dance and move, Scott is Axl Rose without the lyrics and vocal range.

SCott is the fuckin man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scott all the way. Chris Cornell has always bored the piss out of me...... (minus a couple tunes on badmotorfinger)

better voice = Cornell

better performer = Scott

it's a close call.

also Cornell's live voice is pretty shot after the surgery. It's not the same as it was back during the soundgarden days. At least he can make it sound great in studio. Can't wait for the next Audioslave record!

Personally I think the Audioslave album was inferior by far to the VR one.  The Audioslave album just bored me.  I am 10000% happy that Cornell is not in VR.  Scott Weiland is VR.

Almost all of my friends who are not GNR fans like Audioslave CD more than Contraband...

problably because Rage & Soundgarden are more recent then GN'R and get played on modern rock radio stations like Krock unlike GN'R.

I dont think this would ever happen but it would be cool if VR changed vocalist for every record  and try different shit :hihi:

LOL, D, do you have any STP CDs?

I never noticed you as a Scott fan until recently... did VR push you to pick-up any STP albums?

Scott is cool, but I think I'd rather have Sebastian Bach.

we've been through this before, lol, Bach has an infuckingsane vocal range but doesnt write songs much, so i gues VR would have relied more on Izzy's stuff, or maybe gotten Izzy in the band?? Imagine that, fucking Bach and Izzy, with Izzy writing most of the lyrics.

i dont own any STP stuff but ive always admired Scott from afar. i love creep and sour girl but ive never been a huge STP fan.

Sour Girl is what made me really really dig Scott and when i found out he was singing for VR i was like hell fuckin yeah!

Contraband is fuckin awesome! ive been sayin how i wont be listening to it next year but i will be, this album just doesnt die, i keep listening over and over and over.

so it is true it doesnt happen often but i was actually wrong for once. :hihi:

VR are awesome!

i need to pick up some STP albums

sebastian is over rated, he can sing but isnt very versatile, cornell is bland in my opinion

Scott is awesome! one of my new idols!

Nope.

Scott's the man for VR as is Chris for the 'Slave.

"Cochise" is still one of my my favorite rock songs of the past couple of years...

Izzy doesn't want to be in a band with a lead singer again

yeah, that is a great song.? I always picture Cornell as a singer/guitarist as opposed to a 'frontman' though.?

Besides, as our GNR experiences have taught us - band chemistry is important.? Even if Cornell is a better singer, if he didnt have any chemistry with Slash & the guys, then he would be a bad choice.?

Weiland fits in which makes him the right man for the job.

The VR cd is ace, but Scott is not in Axl, Bach or Cornells league...yet. I think the 2nd cd will prove how good he really is. I have a live dvd of VR and he wasn't great vocally, performance was v good.
I don't think Cornell would of worked with VR (and i'm huge SoundGarden/Cornell fan so that is hard to say) as his previuos stuff is miles away from Guns. IMO.
I really wanted Bach, he is so wasted at the moment, doing nothing. He really needs to get with some really great players and get us another "super group" to get wet over.

I think all of the mentioned singers have + and - points, but i'm glad things are as they are...

 : ok:

I disagree obviously (Scotts work solo/with STP proves how really good he is), but you think Bach is in Axls league...?

D you gott get some STP stuff, i like all of there stuff but i am in the minority with STP fans on favorite disks. I really dig there later stuff, starting with Tiny Music shop, it is pretty diverse stuff, i think you would like it.

I've always been a bigger fan of STP/Scott Weiland than Sound Garden/Chris Cornell.? But I still wish STP was still around, if I had to choose VR or STP, I'd pick STP.  VR is the greatest thing to come out in 2000 but I would prefer Scott with STP.  When Weiland was announced to join the band, I was on cloud nine.? Scott Weiland is fanfuckingtastic.? ?: ok:

I was skeptical about weiland when he was first announced as the lead singer for VR, but after hearing the album im somewhat impressed with what he did

i still think cornell would have been amazing in velvet revolver though
