Title: SUPER BOWL SUNDAY
Post by: Prucc on January 23, 2005, 05:32:09 PM
YOU THINK AXL COULD BE FEATURED IN A COMMERCIAL.  A MASTERCARD COMMERCIAL?

A SONY 32" TV:  $599.99
30 PACK OF BEER:  $19.99
200 BUFFALO WINGS:  $49.95
SEEING A COMMERCIAL FOR THE LONG AWAITED GUNS N' ROSES ALBUM ON THAT NEW TV WHILE DRINKING WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND WATCHING THE SUPERBOWL:  PRICELESS

THERE ARE SOME THINGS MONEY CAN BUY.  FOR EVERYTHING ELSE THERE'S MASTERCARD.

On Topic:? ? I love that Mastercard commercial with Payton Manning.? Too bad that the Indianapolis Colts didn't make it to the Superbowl this year because your Mastercard commercial idea would've have like an extra "inside" meaning to us GNR fans since Axl's from Indiana and the Superbowl is on Axl's birthday this year.

No kidding.  They couldnt even sell out shows on their last US tour.  I dont think anyone would ask them, and band that features only one original GNR member, to do a halftime superbowl show.  Coming to this board and loving GNR as much as we do, we fail to realize that most people dont care about them, have never heard of Chinese Democracy, and wouldnt even know who the hell was playing music if they started playing at the Superbowl.

Post by: gnrkid03 on January 30, 2005, 09:02:30 AM
I had a crazy dream that Axl and the boys played at the Superbowl.  Madagascar was the song and when the whole sample thing happened in the song, the MLK "I have a dream, free at last" part didnt play.  It ended on a stained glass picture of Jesus.  The place was going crazy and the new band member was there playing too.  Thought Id just share that with you all since theres speculation about them playing this Sunday.   8)

There will be no surprise appearence from GNR on Superbowl Sunday. The NFL is under fire for last year and they are sure to be conservitave this year. And GNR is not conservitive which is a good thing. I would not rule out a commercial though especially with the new publishing deal.

Title: Re: SUPER BOWL SUNDAY
Post by: Axl4Prez2004 on January 30, 2005, 03:02:58 PM
While I don't see GNR throwing down $2.4 million for a 30 second advertisement during the Super Bowl...or a live performance due to the NFL's experience last year with Janet Jackson...I DO think tomorrow, Monday, January 31st, would be a PERFECT time for an announcement done in press release form giving new info.  WHY?  Because by the time Super Bowl Sunday comes around, word will have spread, and since the Super Bowl is a huge party event, you can multiply the buzz exponentially.  I sure hope Uncle Axl is thinking like I am! ;)

just a rumor so no one get fired up or anything but over at the paul mccartney boards he is rumored to be closing with "live and let die"

so just take that as a rumor

i wasnt gonna post that cause we know axl isnt gonna perform but if he does close with it, it kind of makes u wonder.

can u imagine axl's 30 second screams like he did on the 2002 tour?
everyone would be in awe!

Although I don't believe Axl will be performing Sunday, I can't say I won't be watching the half time show just in case.

I will say that I find it a bit strange that Paul McCartney is billed as playing solo (meaning without additional acts within his performance). If you look at the history of the SuperBowl half time shows ( http://www.superbowl.com/features/entertainment/halftime-honorroll ), very few in the past two decades have featured only one act. This doesn't mean to say that AXL WILL be an unannounced guest performer, but it seems rational that there might very possibly be some kind of surprise during the performance.

As far as the whole "conservative" issue goes...I'm sure the NFL (maybe someone else) collects a nice chunk of change from those who produce the half time shows (Radio City, Disney, MTV, etc.) and I'm sure they don't want to all of a sudden go soft and turn the half time show back into a boring piece of trash (notice I say 'boring' as it's still a piece of trash even when it's exciting) that nobody wants to produce anymore. And if the rumor of Live N' Let Die ending the set is true, I don't see how bringing Axl on as a guest for one song would be concidered much of a gamble. He is certainly not (really never was) the 'out of control' rock star (sans a few minor riots lol) in terms of not playing ball with a live television event (it's Slash and Duff you need to look out for with that).

All in all, I think this topic is fun, but as cool of an idea as it is, I really don't think it's gonna happen.  :'(

Perhaps there's something BIGGER up their sleaves...and if not, hey...the Grammy's are on in two weeks  :hihi:

Mygnrforum:

This is a rumour from Paul McCartney's official message board:

Looks like he's ending with "live and let die".....they're doing a local spot about the superbowl right now, and they said Paul was rehearsing. They could hear (didn't say what he was playing), but they saw the fireworks at the end.

McCartney's set is 12 minutes and is the only scheduled perfomer...

I was watching a little bit of Fox News earlier and the anchor at the moment was talking about the halftime show and it went to a conference with McCartney. He was asked what songs he was planning on performing, but didn't name anything. He just said he was going to take the band out and "rock," and that he didn't want to spoil any surprises. :-\

He just said he was going to take the band out and "rock," and that he didn't want to spoil any surprises. :-\

Now I'm sad for Paul... according to the thread about Motley Crue posted here, "just rocking" is apparently a bad thing.

Anyhow, from PMC's message boards, the news is:

*************
SUPER BOWL SET LIST SPOILER!!!!

Paul rehearsed "Drive My Car," "Get Back," "Live and Let Die" and "Hey Jude." McCartney still may surprise fans on Sunday with his final set list. The band is playing live. No lip-synching! No tape delay.

Paul will wear a red shirt, black jeans and a black jacket (which he will remove after "Get Back"). "Live and Let Die" will be loaded with fireworks and special effects.

Macca (Paul) has been flying in and out of the Jacksonville airport to a house he rented on the ocean.
*************
Seeing as GnR's version has tons of fireworks too, I would love to see a duet.

Then, at the end, Axl's says, "Round Two", throws the mic, accidentally hitting Terrell Owens on the ankle, rendering him useless for the 2nd half, where the Patriots regain the lead and win their third Superbowl in four years.  Thanks a lot, Axl.

Axl appearing with Gilby, visiting a club or getting arrested weren't televised so I didn't include those....

Meanwhile, the morning of the MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday (Aug. 29) had all the industry abuzz over the rumored GNR show-closing performance. A source tells us that the band was given a full eight minutes to do their thing ? we'll soon see!

That was posted at CDNOW.com on the day of the VMAs. Back then, CDNOW used to have a music news section.

Also, at the pre-show Pink mentioned Buckethead and Axl.

Yeah, I remember the whole Pink thing, but that was the day of.

Anyhow,  the only reason why I'm thinking GNR might play with McCartney is the fact that no GNR members are busy on Superbowl Sunday, and Paul said that Live and Let Die will be filled with fireworks, and special effects.  This plays right in the hands of GNR.  On their last your, Live and Let Die was filled with special effects, and explosions.  I don't think I have ever seen McCartney perform Live and Let Die with special effects and explosions.

With that said, I still think it will be a long shot to see Axl there, and I'm not getting my hopes up, but I will be watching for it.

He did at the 2004 Glastonbury Festival.  In fact, it was part of a fireworks / special effects sequence, which also included Helter Skelter and The End.  Not that this changes anything.

And when I saw him at Earls Court in 2004, and he used fireworks on a US tour a few years back. : ok:

They had a TV broadcast in the UK of one of his shows, and Sir Paul introduced LALD by saying something about the song being more popular than ever and he was going to try and cover that version. :hihi:

A duet of McCartney and Axl would suck.  They don't have voices that would sound good together and they don't sing that song the same way.  It would be as bad as Elton John and Axl singing Bohemian Rhapsody (man that was god-aweful).

Axl will not be singing a duet with Paul tomorrow.  It doesn't make much sense for him to do something as an individual at this point.  He needs to do something with his band members (I mean hired musicians   ::) ).

Hey, ive been lurking around for a while, never really intended on posting, but at around 330 in the afternoon i was driving and listening to 105.5 DHA which is a station out of new jersey. At the end of some song that i never heard before the DJ said to the best of my recollection "guns n roses covering (at which point i thought i was insane cuz there was no way that the song just played was a cover by gnr...and then he goes on and says...)the half time entertainment tomorrow, im sure slash wont be throwing a superbowl party for axl any time soon"  This is pretty much the direct quote, that was the end of it. That just sounds like a segue to me.  You know, mention the super bowl halftime, and tie it together with GNR by commenting that Axl and Slash don't like one another, and hence, won't be partying together.

But I hope I'm wrong.  Paul McCartney isn't much of a halftime show by himself.

A duet of McCartney and Axl would suck.? They don't have voices that would sound good together and they don't sing that song the same way.? It would be as bad as Elton John and Axl singing Bohemian Rhapsody (man that was god-aweful).

God awful -  ???   are you out of you your fucking mind ??  this was a great performance that had the fans going insane

I just don't get it (being from the UK) - what's Paul McCartney doing singing at a Super Bowl(?)

Has he got a new album coming out(?) because if he has not, all he can do is sing some old song(?)
If this is the case, is Paul McCartney the best they could come up with(?)

Certain irony in that post about McCartney appearing if he doesn't have a new album to promote, seeing as the last time Axl released an album either Hayleys comet or a blue moon appeared. As for only having an old song to sing " Welcome to the Jungle" wasn't exactly a newbie at the VMA's

todays the day that if CD is cumin out in April we will know about it 2nite on the superbowl. If all the rumours dont cum tru and ther isnt an advert or performance or something then im willing to bet that CD wont be here in April. But we all know how unpredictable Axl can be  :)

You shouldn`t be pissed of, because nobody said that they will show up. There are just some people saying that it would be great if they`d show up. I think it was also great if they`d release Chinese Democracy tomorrow... : ok:

And give up if you want to, I`ll not.

if it were to happen it would be the greatest thing ever but im not betting on it

can u imagine however axl's LALD screams? holy shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

all those naysayers who say he cant sing anymore would shit their pants!!

over 90 million people reportedly watch the superbowl worldwide

To any one in the U.S.A! Has there been any rumours on your television or radio throughout the day as to whether this actually may happen tonight???? I am not expecting anything but its kinda like the VMA's in 02, we heard the rumour in the U.K and me and other Guns fans were thinking yeh right! But it happened!! So I've kind of got this hope thing going on for tonight! It will also be my first game of watching your funny football! Is the game any good???

Title: Re: SUPER BOWL SUNDAY
Post by: roxxi on February 06, 2005, 02:11:02 PM

I think the only reason why they wouldn't have announced the gig is that they think he's not gonna show up. I'd say the chances of such a suprise gig are 1 in a million, even less... but we'll see in a couple of hours.

He's probably at home watching the SB and doing this: ? ? :smoking: ?

I agree - I am hoping for an announcement or advert with release date (this is highly improbable I realise).

There is no way Axl or guns will be performing - a nice idea but absurd for many reasons

There probably is a better chance of a commercial, but I really don't think so.? Superbowl commercials are very very expensive.? I can't believe they would drop that much money on one advertisement.? But the commercials are usually entertaining anyway, so no harm in watching if you've got nothing else to do.

How long after the superbowl is over before we start speculating about the Grammys??

The NFL is the biggest of the major sports

their games get huge ratings

the NBA barely draws a 1.1

the NFL gets almost double digits

ratings wise, way more people watch the super bowl than any other event.

also the NBA market their players whereas the NFL is a league based on teams and not individuals

it would be cool if he sung with paul, i'm also a geek... like nikki sixx?

This is 2004,not 1994.Nobody besides us would be interested in seeing that.
No kidding.? They couldnt even sell out shows on their last US tour.? I dont think anyone would ask them, and band that features only one original GNR member, to do a halftime superbowl show.? Coming to this board and loving GNR as much as we do, we fail to realize that most people dont care about them, have never heard of Chinese Democracy, and wouldnt even know who the hell was playing music if they started playing at the Superbowl.

The NFL was never going to let someone like Axl anywhere near a stage......that's why they got someone safe like McCartney. Some of you are dillusional in the sense you convince yourselves these types of scenarios can really happen. The Super Bowl is the biggest sporting spectacle in America. GNR hasn't released a new album in over 10 years, they don't qualify as the type of act the NFL is looking for. I wish those of you who were holding out hope he would show up at the Super Bowl would realize how truly ridiculous the very thought of it is.
