Title: Making Fucking Videos (laserdisks)
Post by: chineseblues on June 29, 2005, 03:36:28 PM
I just bought this on ebay for 15 bucks (http://img289.echo.cx/img289/8519/611b3qf.jpg) And I was wondering how much its actually worth. Any info is appreciated.

It's hard to give you an exact quote. All I know is with the advent of DVDs, laserdiscs are less sought-after than they used to be, so it had to have an impact on their market value.
That being said, 15 bucks is a very good price.

I believe they're still pretty expensive. This one is not the "expensive" one.

The ones from Japan are really expensive.

What release do you think this one is? To my knowledge, the Pioneer logo only appears on Japanese releases  ???

I'm sorry, I meant to say the ones from MCA, not the Pioneer ones.

MCA:
MVLG-12
MVLG-16
MVLG-11
MVLG-7

OK, I suspect those are reissues, because Don't cry and November rain were originally packed together, and I think there was no laserdisc version of Estranged.

Are you sure? Cause I have all 3 of them and they have no sign on them of being reissues...

They all seem very old but in good condition.

Oh, and look at Eil.com's info.

It says 1993 for Don't Cry and November Rain and 1994 for Estranged.

Eil is rarely wrong.

That could be the date of the original release. After all, the Tokyo DVDs released 2 years ago only have the 1992 date on them  ;D

I don't put too much credit in a website that sells bootleg Taiwanese releases (I personnally consider them as such)  :-\

One thing is for sure, one release is more recent than the other. And I tend to think chineblues' version is the oldest.

But I can't give you 100% guarantee on that, I've never been terribly interested in laserdiscs.

I have seen these discs pretty cheap (maybe $30) on collector markets. But where do I find a laser disc player?

That's a good question. I doubt you could find a new one these days, but you can always try to check with specialized audio / video stores.
