Title: GNR Photo shoot?
Post by: Transcona on February 28, 2006, 02:07:08 PM
"I spend the day off the Strip in a huge junkyard shooting a group that I can't name - has to be a secret. I fly in early - supposed to start at 11am. My subject matter arrives at 3pm with a huge entourage... There are about fifty people around me, filming and following what I do - even for me it is disconcerting..."

...could be Guns.

"entourage" makes me think Mr. Rose.

Who the hell else could it be? :) God, I hope they've got a new guitarist. Or Slash. Please, God, let that be the reason for all the secrecy...

omfg. it could be any number of bands I'd imagine. do we HAVE to assume right away it's gnr?

assumption consumption starts now.

From looking at his site, seems he puts up photos from time to time. Wonder if he'll post some from this shoot. If it's not GNR, who the hell else could it be.

PS. Where are all the band member? Anyone touring around this time? ????

50 people following / filming could mean some sort of documentary / DVD filming.  Not saying this is GNR, but if so, that's pretty cool.

Let's look at the facts:

 ?1) Group he can't name
?2) Four hours late just to shoot photos
 ?3) Huge entourage

It doen't have to be GNR, but damn sure has all the GNR traits we have come to know.....

4 hours late... that screams Axl Rose.

Just to drum up the rumor....... Slash was photographed in Las Vegas just a few days prior by Ross Halfin (with Joe Perry) could he have stuck around for a photo op with his new/old band.... hmmmm...

It struck me as Halfin being Halfin and being the attention whore he is.

BUT then I read "Supposed to start at 11, subject matter turned up at 3"

Thats our boy!

I know that gnr fans kind of live in a bubble some times where we think everything has to do with gnr in some way. But I don't know why for any other band a photo shoot would have to be done in secret. I mean almost all bands let there fans know exactly whats going on through posts on their website and such, and if anything try not to keep things secret. And the showing up late thing just screams Axl. Here's hoping it's something gnr related. ?

this might be another of halfin`s axl "jokes".....

or it?s just another band...we`ll find out...

what strikes me though, is that few bands want their photo shooting kept secret...  (but if it was indeed meant to stay secret, i don`t think there wouldn`ve been 50 people around halfin and he wouldn`t have mentioned it on his site......)

weird... he`s searching for attention though.... there`s no need to even post about his "secret photo shooting"

This is from his page about Guns N' Roses: "...never did them live, I was too lazy. I remember the first time I shot them they came in with an entourage of fifty hangers-on. It was a bit like the Rolling Stones, which I suppose they were. A photo from that session is on the cover of Greatest Hits. Still friendly with all of them except Axl."

I suppose he's not friends with Axl anymore, but who knows, maybe the setup was like his first photoshoot with them...

Axl and Ross hate each other.

Ross is still friends with Slash and Duff but not Axl.

He won't be shooting a Guns photo shoot in my opinion.

As CB said, George Chin is a better bet.

And the same guy who started a delusive rumour about the original line-up playing at download, polly to take the piss out of the band and us. as a result, look at some gaga comments here. damn the trouble maker.
And me too thinks 3pm is a bit too early.

He sued Axl in April or May 2003, Axl had a contract saying he would pay $80,000 for hundreds photos of the old band from 1985+ but he never payed. Who won ?

What about Gene Kirkland ? Unless Axl has pissed him off as well ?:hihi:

I'm in LA, but off to Las Vegas for the day. It is strange weather, hot, then cloudy and cold. I spend the day off the Strip in a huge junkyard shooting a group that I can't name - has to be a secret. I fly in early - supposed to start at 11am. My subject matter arrives at 3pm with a huge entourage... There are about fifty people around me, filming and following what I do - even for me it is disconcerting... ?

February 16
Have spent all of last week shooting the Red Hot Chilli Peppers in LA. On the first day Phoebe, their charming UK PR (from South London), had asked that I write nothing about my shoots with them - the band have a problem with my website... Now I would be very flattered to think Flea, Anthony, Chad and John spend their spare time reading my diary, but I have a suspicion this is not coming from them, it seems to come from their over-protective management. However, with all the troubles in the world today, the last thing I need is to be pursued and persecuted by fanatical PRs so I'm going to write nothing...

I dont think we should let all this "he hates him" and "they hates them" go too far!
This is just speculations over things we read, from the internet! The garbagecan!
This could be interesting, but untill we have a reason to belive its "GNR", lets calm down
there are 1000 bands in that era, and it could be anyone of them, including GNR.

So, lets just X our fingers and hope to see a GNR promo in the near future..

So yes let's piss and moan when he can give us an answer that ends a 4 page thread about how because they were 4 hours late it has to be Axl.

Simple question younggunner, how big is that stick up your ass??

so we should respect and praise him for taking the time out to email management? we could do the same thing. Plenty of people on these boards hound gnr management about rumors. Anyone can do it.

My point is even if hes a "messenger" does it really matter? Is he gonna let us know an hour in advance that a press release is gonna come out or something. Big deal. When GNr want to do soemthing we will ALL know about it collectively....

and any1 who has been around long enough knows that 99.9% of the rumors on these boards are false. So do we really need some1 to shoot them down?

but whatever ill drop it

Considering you were posting that sp1at confirmed Ross was telling the truth about the location, I'd say yes.  ::)

Seems as with the high profile of Axl and GNR, I would find it hard to believe they would assign Halfin for a session. I say this as a person who has worked in the Licensing and Photo Agency industry for the past 12 years. There's plenty of other higher end photogs that one would think Axl would assign for such a shoot.

The first official group shot and portraits of GNR in x number of years? A junkyard on the strip? Huge entourage? For all we know that could be some American Idol has been.

GnR fans just don't help themselves at times.

Yes, a lot of people could shoot down the rumours that Mysteron does, but do they? No.

Plus you'd be an idiot if you still didn't believe he had some sort of connections after all this time.

Mysteron won't be able to give out the big information such as a release date or when a PR will happen but he is able to fill us in on the smaller stuff at times. His posts are a lot more informative than 95% of the posts on this forum even if he can only be vague at times.

Anyway, now the rumour has been shot down, can we lock this?

It was raining until I woke up this morning. Now the sun's out and I'm in the studio all day shooting John Frusciante... It should be interesting - I'll put up what happens tomorrow.

could very well be shooting the chili peppers

And if he is shooting GN'R- that means he is shooting the original lineup (with Sorum)...count on it

Slash and Halfin are buds- Halfin wouldn't post reunion info without checking up with Slash, would he?

Would you like to see a band pic on/in the CD booklet?

If I am seeing the CD booklet, then I could give a goddamn about whether or not it has a band picture.

I think to solidify the group as 'a band' (meaning the new guys), a photo together is manditory. It can't just be a portrait of Axl, then another shot of the rest of the guys.

Have it inside the booklet, not on the outside.

And I would say, something like the motif of the Sopranos promotional shots. Dark, netherworldly, drab colors-kinda fits the music, don'tchathink?

Chaaa ;) : ok: on the back cover of the booklet or underneath the CD tray

and maybe cool artistic type individ pics of each member if possible scattered throughout, as well as some other artwork (not band pics) and lyrics and a shit load of credits and thankyou's.

Ahem, Sorry I got carried away there a bit ;D

Title: Re: GNR Photo shoot?
Post by: Allman on February 28, 2006, 04:54:04 PM
On the back of the CD, it has to be visible otherwise people (general public) might even think the old band is together. People have to see who's in the band to stop complaints like, "I thought Slash was still in it  :crying:"
It has happened with other bands who've changed line-ups (this drastic).

Off topic : lyrics!

I always thought a front cover as a band photo would be pretty ballsy and cool.  It would be like an old 70's album cover.

Post by: AdZ on February 28, 2006, 04:57:14 PM
I'm not such a fan of band photos in liner notes or whatever, but for magazine stuff and promo shots it would be awesome to see that they can all get in a room together.

Edit:  It's just nice to see a whole band together rather than on individual sites on their own..

i would like promoshoots of the band. To use on Website, newspapers, posters, etc etc
but i think some killer design with cool pics of each members in action. in the booklet. Would also be cool
to have them on behind the cd spot. But i think some cool artwork would be great on the front cover, and the back

yeah, i would also like the lyrics in the booklet... Thats GNR for me ?: ok:

This would show the world that this record ain't an Axl Rose solo album, as lots of "journalists" want to make it seem...

Plus it would pretty much validate the comments of members about the proccess of the recordings and why it took so long.

I hope they'll also have some studio pics inside. That would be extra cool.

LAST MONTH, I was linked to this guy's webpage (from a similar Pink Floyd forum) because he had a photo session with David Gilmour, whose album is going to be released THIS MONTH (6th March to be more precise).

Now feel free to take your conclusions...

hi everyone, first post...

this ain't gn'r

from www.melodicrock.com dated friday 24th feb

VH1 START FILMING SUPERGROUP REALITY SERIES:
Exclusive - Stand by for a new reality TV show. VH1 commenced filming on their new show - tentatively titled Supergoup - this week in Las Vegas.
The premise of the show is to lock several musicians in a house for 10 days and get them to write and record some new original music. Originally the network wanted the group to record an album, but at this time it is understood they will settle for one song and hope for more.
So just who makes up this supergroup which has until now, been kept under wraps? The line-up is: Scott Ian (Anthrax) - Guitar; Ted Nugent - Guitar; Evan Seinfeld (Biohazard) - Bass; Sebastian Bach (ex-Skid Row) - Vocals and Jason Bonham (Bonham, UFO, Foreigner) - Drums.
In addition to the 5 musicians, star manager Doc McGhee is in charge and is also living in the house for the duration of filming/recording.
The show will air on VH1 in later this year.

from Ross Halfin's website

"...never did them live, I was too lazy. I remember the first time I shot them they came in with an entourage of fifty hangers-on. It was a bit like the Rolling Stones, which I suppose they were. A photo from that session is on the cover of Greatest Hits. Still friendly with all of them except Axl."

If Axl was the only member of Gn'R that Ross didn't get on with I doubt he's going to be doing photos of the band now with the only original member being Axl...

it's this Sebastian Bach supergroup thing. I'd bet old lefty on it
