Start time is SUPPOSED to be in about 1/2 hr.  But then we all know the drill.  They may show up any where  from 1 hour from now to 3 hours from now.

Since they're filming NOW in Budapest and the DVD won't be out before summer (maybe late summer) I would love to see some kind of compilation of the entire Europe tour. The best performance of each song and some lovely backstage footage.  :drool:

Police Welcome Axl To The Rock In Rio Jungle

Excitement surrounding the appearance of Guns N?Roses to the world famous Rock In Rio festival heightened with the arrival of the band by police escort. Whooping sirens broke the (at the time) relative peace of the backstage area. Four motorcycles and two police cars, all with sirens blazing drove Axl and co through the streets of Lisbon at high speed to ensure a safe arrival at the venue.

The arrival ? at 9.30pm ? a full two and a quarter hours before the band were due to appear, quashed rumours that they were liable to make a super-late start to the festival that had been more than warmed up by a blistering performance from Brit rockers The Darkness.

Justin Hawkins? high vocals ? surely in part inspired by Rose, shook the of tens of thousands of fans from across the world that have made the pilgrimage to Rock In Rio, Lisbon.

The Darkness lit the natural bowl of the main stage with a light show unsurpassed by any act at the festival so far.

But the big question was, following the on-time finish of The Darkness, at what time exactly would Guns N?Roses appear to the thousands of rock-hungry fans that came to have their appetite satisfied by one of the world?s greatest rock?n?roll bands.

Those worried that it would be dawn before the set finished (and let?s face it, who cares if it is?) had their fears calmed when, only 35 minutes later than expected, Guns N?Roses hit the stage.

?Welcome To The Jungle? had the crowd singing the intro even before Axl, who shimmied through the first number like he?d never been away.

If this were Pearl Jam or a band that actually varies their setlist (and adding or subtracting one song here or there is not really switching it up) then I might be interested in checking in to see what they played. I highly doubt any show on this whole tour will be different other than the possibility of Izzy showing up at a gig. Spontaneity does not seem to be this bands strong point.

I think after Rio everyone realizes that the band is just going to do the same old, same old for the rest of the tour.  There is no need for "live updates" and 100 page threads on each gig anymore because it's really only exciting for the people going to the show now.  Everyone else can wait until the next day for a brief on what happened (if anything).

So if GNR play an hr long version of estranged and coma then it's for the fans in Budapest who deserve to something rare in the setlist just as much as you do.

during jungle in lisbon tommy smashed his base in the floor and went back stage to get a new one so guess technical problems happens to everyone once in a while, not jsut axl...

and i bet that further down the line with more gigs under their belt, the thechnical problems will be fewer and fewer...

well, there was this live updating going on at Here Today Gone To hell message board {one of the best gnr forums}, and some1 said that you and Robin had a lil bump in with each other during Its so Easy, and that he walked off stage....guess its all bullshit...i apologize...i just figured id ask....Yeah, we were bangin' into eachother at one point - was a punk love-fest   :)    I think he switched to a different guitar later on, but all was fine - was a good fun show    :)

btw Rio rocked!...thanks for DOnt Cry that was coolNooooooooooo prob!   Did the *whole* song tonight and had everyone sing along beginning to end - was really cool   :)

Axl looks like a portrait.  Whatever happened to Axl's unpredictability??  He wears and says the same things at every concert.  I know you guys are going to think I am crazy for saying this  but I hope   Axl gets pissed and leaves a show early  and causes some  mayhem  it would be very refreshing. Axl is beginning to get very boring.  I didn't know you had to become a senior citizen in your 40's .  I know alot of youthful badasses at 40 that look and have the energy of someone in their 20's.  Watching him at Rio  there were times when he reminded me of George Carlin , that is not good.

No! I was somewhere between the 7th-10th line, he definetly played the whole song including the solo part.

It was scary to see the managing director of multimedia concerts on stage saying "Axl and the guys are in the dressing room, but we have technical problem, you have to wait another 20 minutes" Finally it was more than 90 minutes. The opening band left the stage at 21.24, GnR start the show at around 23.40.  Lot of people started to go home and demand their money back. Hungarian media start to make sensation of the delay, but I'm of the opinion that it was worth waiting, the show was fantastic! 

Some of our more overzealous members have to try to remember that the point of a tour is to play in DIFFERENT cities. To DIFFERENT audiences. Only a very small percentage of fans are tracking their every move online. For most people this is the first time seeing them in a long time, so it's all new. I agree it would be nice to hear different songs, but that is generally left up to the band to try not to get bored on tour. They are mixing a few songs in and out and playing tracks at different times in the show. It that makes them happy, that's all that really matters.

And new songs are only going to be played after the album is released. It sucks but that's the way it is folks. As for why they aren't playing one or two more UYI tracks, only Axl can say.

An other thing is that the new songs don't sound that great when played onstage. The demos are great but their live rendition is pretty poor.

I'm fan since early '90s and I follow the band since then... Some friends of mine, no "new fans" but fans since the old days too, were in Lisbon in the first row... and there was with them a guy, an "old fan" that did not follow the band since 1995.. he and the others were totally amazed and excited by Axl and the whole band, and they reported of a great performance.

What young people here should understand is that most of the people who are criticizing Axl's band have been GNR fans for longer than them.
They are disappointed, AS GNR FANS, about Axl's "evolution". These fans still like Axl, but they can't identify with people like Finck or Fortus, simply because they don't belong to GNR's world and never will.

Personally, I'll attend some shows this summer : it doesn't mean I don't miss Slash and the real GNR. :)

Seems like a small problem with Robin's sound came up...

Axl didn't introduce anyone, maybe he forgot though, but he should do it..it's better that way.

Better is a very complex song it seems, very hard to sing also.

Not really. I was there and a rift happened between the two. Robin was in a bad mood during the first songs. He crushed 4 different guitars during the first 4 songs, once (during Easy or Brownstone) almost killed a mic with its stand, and when they played Better he simply left the stage in the middle of the song. Axl was looking for him and when the song was over, Bumble started to play something horrible and Axl went after Finck with his face saying' I will kill the fucker'.

Yes, yes, yes, something happened when they crushed. But Robin was pissed off from the first minute and during Brownstone he didn't even play his guitar, just took one mic stand and sang, and acted like he'd be a singer. I guess the band and mostly Robin was mad at Axl cause he didn't take his precious time to come to the concert. As far as I know he arrived to Hungary an hour before they started to play (11:45).

I don't know more about it.

BTW I can confirm what alexrose wrote that Axl had said 'It's a rock show... a rock show' when he had felt that Finck had gone crazy.

I'm not sure it was a bumblefoot/Robin blow up thing as it was a "Robin is pissed because the sound is fucked up and Ron tried to console him at the wrong moment" thing. ?But I'm looking for confirmation from anyone that might actually know one way or the other.

There is a rumour that Axl had problems with his back and his knee, that's why he flew to Milano on the day of the show(!) and when they finished in Hungary, he flew back again to a specialist. I don't know too much about his back and knee, but I missed his heart during the concert.

Merck mentioned muscle spasms during the Rio concert.  It wouldn't surprise me if that's what was bothering him...

I've had wicked bask spasms before.  They can, literally, bring you to your knees...so it wouldn't surprise me if he was battling those through treatment (chiropractic, massage therapy, all that sort of stuff) to get him up on stage every night.

With the way Robin was acting, and Axl's supposed back issues, it seems that something bad maybe brewing behind the scenes.  I don't know what, but my how things can change so quickly.  GNR seemed poised to conquer the world coming out of NY, and now look to be on the verge of utter collapse at the 2nd most important show, Rock Am Ring, of the tour.  I know things can be worked out, but if the band is growing weary of Axl's tardiness and bs, then this is a train wreck waiting to happen.   They also, at Rock Am Ring, and Download, need to cut out the long delay's in between songs, and the other non-sense.  I I was them, I would play 10 songs straight, with little break in between.  I would not play Madagascar, TWAT, or Better either.  I would play IRS, Chinese Democracy and The Blues.

Again, I'm not sure it was Robin being ticked at Axl for being late.

I'm hearing (well, reading), in more and more places/forums, it was a sound issue, or some issue with Robin's guitars, that caused him to get pissed off.

Back spasm are very treatable (hell, ibuprofen works wonders) and usually are one of those things that can be easily controlled by good providers.  And they tend to go away as quickly as they show up....

I wouldn't worry too much, yet.  We'll see how the weekend, and next week, goes.

On the verge of utter collapse? How about putting things a little more in perspective? I really don't see a reason to jump to such conclusions....

I know this is off-topic, but I just want to back up the point that plenty of old school fans, like myself and some of my friends, are fully in support of the new band. You can miss Slash and whatever nostalgia you have for the old band, but that is exactly what it is; nostalgia. Just because the original members remind you of a time in your life when you were young and you loved Guns n Roses doesn't mean that it makes any sense at all to compare anything that Axl does in the present to what they did then. Sorry, but he owns the rights to the name, and there is no reason at all why such a recognizable brand name shouldn't be used.

I would advise all who attend G'N'R shows and wait on this board like hawks looking for prey for song updates to realize that unless G'N'R are on AOL Live, which occurs once every 20 years, show up 1.5 to 2 hours later than the reported start time. I have seen this band 6 times dating from '91 to '02 and that has been the standard. I am sure the band understands that also and are not suprised when it happens every night.

OK, here's a part of the review, rest at the thread on cd.com)


I got at the gate at noonish, there was a few people there waiting, and till 4 pm, there was 5-10 people in front of the gate. Till 6 o clock, the crowd already gathered around, and at about 6.30 the security was already at the gate, but they were not letting people in yet(and the gate should have opened at 6).
I was 2nd in line at the gate, and the official cameraman came by and did a interview with me. he asked me all the usaul stuff, how long have I been a fan, where I'm from,...
and I asked him what was this for and he said, "For the DVD". and I asked him when the DVD will be released, and he said "about end of summer".

after that we were let in the arena, and once again we had to wait...
finally the last gate of the arena opened, I managed to catch the fence, center. and then another wait started....


the opening act started (some shitty hungarian band).
after they were finally done, we had to wait again.
and some fat guy comes on stage, and says "due to techincal problems, the show will be 20 minutes late".

1 h after that, some people leave the arena...
1 h after that, the damn intro finally starts....
20 minutes after the intro started the WTTJ FINALLY STARTS!!!!

the band also did some random jam at one point.

The show was avesome. I dont know if the whole arena experience enhanced the pleasure, but I felt something that's so good I cant describe it.
there were a couple of mistakes here and there, by some band members, but nothing much



Some interesting details....

guess what... axl did a rant... he did it.... guess when... you guessed it. ... just before the band played "Better". what did he say? .... you guessed it...
there's this think called "computers"... bla bla bla


at the start of the show, Finck got pissed off by his guitar for some reason, and he threw it on the floor, and got another one...
I tought it's a part of the performance or something, but after that, during better(after the "all that I wanted was... ",-after the bubles effect behind the middle part of the song), he really got mad, smashed the guitar on the floor, took his sun glases and threw them also, walked of stage, and stayed there till the end of the song.
They DIDNT play the solo at the end of the song, and Bumblefoot had to perform the outro of the songs, and he kinda messed it up, and didn't know egzactly how many times the part should be repeated.


another interesting thing...
a friend of mine got to see the setlist on one of the monitors before the show started. and they had patience, rocket queen and a couple of other songs listed there that the band chose not to play...
dont know why.



not many stage interaction, at the end, finck walked by the people in the front row, and his and my friends head kinda collided when fincked walked down.

bumblefoot also walked buy, letting people touch his guitar, he walked infront of me, and instead of just touching it, I grabed onta it, and wouldnt let it go, at least till I got my camera out of my pocket  I kinda held him in that place for a couple of seconds, squeezing the neck of it:)

Axl's voice was great, the band members are really tight, the performance of the band was 9/10, but because of the band being late for so long, I'd give them 7/10 because it really fucks up the experience when you are tiered, dehidrated, and waiting for hours. at one point I wanted to walk out, I was so fucking tired I couldnt wait no more.
The organizers did a lousy job with the opening act, there were no signs in English, only hungarian, none of the personell at the arena knew a word of english, and there were busses from all around europe over there.
People from outside of hungary didnt give a fuck about the opening act because they were nobodys for us, and we didnt understand a word of their songs. after all, a great number of people was from other countries.
I met loads of fans from Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Germany, Austria, Italy, and they were all pissed because of the crappy organization.

The security was crappy also, they refused to give us water, and we were dehidrated. the whole front row was dry.
damn pricks. They started to give out water only after I threw up in front of the stage...


another thing they fucked up... they sold more tickets that arena is allowed to recieve, the show was sold out + they sold 1000-2000 tickets more.

I heared there were problems because they fucked up the seating arangements, and there sometimes 2-3 people got the same fucking seat.




so... conclusion, GREAT GNR SHOW, GREAT PERFORMANCE, only few new GNR songs played, but I didnt notice, cus the band was so good I didnt care even when they played the cristina aguilera theme, the organizers fucked it up with the opening act, the signs/anouncements and selling 2000 tickets more than allowed.
Axl further fucked up, the what could have been a perfect experience by showing up 3 hours late.
The band was tight, and finck is definitely in charge of the stage, has carizma and stage presence. he was all over the place.

I'm sorry I didnt send any mails from the arena, but the whole "waiting" thing got me pretty much exhausted, and I didnt give a fuck about anything after a certain point, and I just wanted to fucking go to sleep.

It's been a rough couple of weeks for Guns N' Roses's frontman Axel Rose. Less than two weeks after getting publicly punched out by preppy fashion prince Tommy Hilfiger in a New York club, he had to drag his ass to Budapest. Or perhaps we should say a show this morning in Budapest, because Rose was apparently so uninterested in playing that he didn't manage to make it onto the stage of the Budapest Sportarena until right around midnight, two-and-a-half hours after opening act Sex Action had left the stage. According to a report earlier today on index.hu, the police were called in to monitor the crowd, which was told at around 10:00 p.m. that the show had been delayed because of an unspecified "technical problem." But according to our own well-placed source, the "technical problem" was that Rose was coked out of his already gak-addled mind.

Another problem was that the band apparently didn't even leave for Budapest from Milan until 7:00 p.m., and thus did not arrive at the arena until well after it was already packed with fans. While many fans were killing time waiting in long lines for beer - or to get refunds - Rose and his crew were killing time backstage, getting massages and otherwise fucking around.

As for the show, it was apparently pretty good, though the reception from the audience was noticeably subdued - "like a film premiere," as our source put it. "There wasn't much moshing." That said, there were few boos from the crowd, which included champion skanky politician Tam?s Deutsch. And even if anyone was pissed off enough to take Hilfiger-style retribution on Rose, they wouldn't have had much of a chance: barely an hour after leaving the stage, the band was already back on their jet.

Sounds like not much of a review of the show, and more a diatribe about Axl being late (which, honestly, should be news to exactly nobody).

And didn't we see actual PICTURES of all the band except Axl in Budapest earlier in the day?? Maybe AXL didn't leave Milan til 7 PM, but I think the rest of the band was there earlier....

Coke is as popular as cigarettes with musicians, especially musicians that party every night till 7am.  It's (Coke) not my thing, but coke is not as bad as the US government would like you to believe.  But it's VERY easy to get out of hand.

What I don't get is why the fuck don't they push the opening time of the show up to a later time if the dude's always late? I'm sure casual concert goer has no idea Axl does this everytime.

Back spasms can also be completely crippling where you can't get out of bed for a few weeks. The back problem is a concern. Especially if he is having to go to Milan for specific treatment. :P

Just cos they did it in 91-93 doesn't make it right either you know, besides in 91-93 GNR was the biggest act on the planet they could really do as they pleased. This is 06 and Axl's up to his old tricks again except this time GNR is not the biggest band in the world by a long shot and Axl has no more second chances. It's make or break for this band and if they are up to 2 hours late for every show it will 'break' before July.

I could have sworne that he mentioned that he and Baz were sniffing "Splenda". ?He said that on stage at the Hammerstein I believe. ?I'm not sure which date, but I think it was one of the last 2 nights. ?And my impression was that he was talking about recently, not in years past.

Agreed, the fact that a rockstar is doing coke is hardly a revelation or anything new, bands have toured for years whilst being high it's not that big a deal, I'm just surprised because I got the impression he was dead against drugs and things like that after reading those interviews he did in the nineties about how vital it was to get toxins out of his body etc. If he is doing coke it's not that big a deal unless it means he's showing up late/not showing up for shows (for those of you who were asking why people think Pete Doherty is such a dick, that's your reason) and then there becomes a problem.

Yes, rest helps speed up the recovery process.  But drugs, massage, and a good chiro can keep you functional even when performing physical labor.  I've lived through it, I know (long ago in a galaxy far far away).

I'm assuming you're talking about the back spasms :hihi: with the amount of running he does these backspasms don't surprise me. Hopefully he can work it out. it can be pretty debilitating to athletes when they get them on a regular basis :-[

but seriously, the main reason for it is likely the condition of Axl (his back, knee, or anything else). he has had to take a rest several times during the show, I think. thanks for it they played less songs like at the gigs before... no I.R.S, no Patience, no Chinese Democracy, no TWAT...  really annoying. :-\
but what is more annoying is that the guitar solos were really poor, except the performance of Fortus. the solos of Thal and Finck were awful.

this concert was in Budapest, Hungary and of course the majority of the crowd was Hungarian. these Hungarians (including me) naturally welcome foreigners with pleasure, we're happy if we can meet people from other countries, but I don't think the organizers should have chosen the opening band just to please You! I think Sex Action was a good choice considering their music and performance, this band has significant and appreciated musical past in this country. sorry, but I had to protect them. :)

I personally don't care about the being late thing - it must be understood that if they go on late, regarless of how good the show is, the reviewer's anger from waiting will turn it into a bad experience and they will write a bad review.

I would be really disapointed if Axl was on coke again.  I don't think he is, but I'm not around him and I don't know him.

i was there too. here's my review:

So, we get to the Arena at 11:45. Not many people were there, so we could just sit in front of the gate. Just before the let us in a guy with a camera come there. He was form the band. He said he's filming for a dvd. Don't know if he meant  a DVD with CD, or a seperate DVD, but he said that it'll come out towards the end of the summer. He was also filming the show with his camera. They let us in at 18:30, but we have to wait again inside, before we could go in frot of the stage. I was at front row! The opening band supposed to start at 20:00, but they didn't get on stage until 20:45. They played only about 30 mins, so i thought GN'R could start at 22:00, but they didn't, of course :D At 22:00 i could see the setlist on the monitor that showed the lyrics during the show. There was also TWAT, CD, patience on it, that was not played.  The organizer then came on stage, and said that  the band and Axl is waiting to get on stage, but there are some technical problems, so we have to wait 20-25 minutes... Well, it become a little more. One of the photograpers told us that Axl was still in Milano at 22:00, not sure if it's ture or not. The band got on stage at about 23:45. the intro was soo fucking long, my whole body was resonating...Robin did't look happy at the begining, he kicked the mick stands several times, and after WTTJ or ISE, he threw his guitar away. He got normal after that, he also threw some bottles of mineral water to the crowd, and i got one of them :) Axl appologised for being late. I enjoyed the show very much, the band sounded good, and Axl's voice was awsome! It really worth that long waiting.
Lot of people didn't wait till the show started, they left earlyer. The press says lot of shit about the show and axl

i'm almost positive he said that at the hammerstein show ( maybe the 14th ? ) he also made a comment about how it's like riding a bike........and this i am sure of. i think it's o.k for him to party cuz i'm sure he dabbles in moderation. he spoke of moderation in the early nineties and how he won't allow any drug to take him over. i'm sure the situation is the same now.

Regarding the show itself, it sounds like the status quo - good show, good sound, a little tardy, but worth the wait!

Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd -- high as fuck. It's a fact that drugs such as marijuana increase the creative part of your mind, it is a mind-altering drug. I'm not endorsing drug use, but let's face it - some of the best music in the world was written by musicians completely stoned out of their minds. GN'R used to all collectively be on drugs too, although Axl was the first to quit circa the Illusion era. I personally get the impression that he's been off drugs for years, but I like how people to these references of his drug use as if it's unheard of. I hate to say, but he was into a lot worse stuff than that. I have to correct myself. I only saw them crashing and later Robin walkin' off stage. I asked my younger brother and he said he had seen the full crash, and that it was really some 'punk thing', cause they had wanted to smash into each other and they did it for fun.

So Bumblefoot was right, I apologize. Robin was pissed off for another reason, there is no friction between the two.

If Axl went back to smoking cigarettes and heavy drinking and drug use ?it would probably inspire some great music ?and his voice would also get very raspy again ( a very good thing). ?But if he were to go back to doing those things the rest of the band would also have to get fucked up along with him. ?I think drugs would do wonders for this band , you know Axl is a freak and would probably do something crazy if under the influence ?and it would bring some danger back to this band / and rock n' roll in general. ?I know some people think that is terrible ?thing to say but fuck it , this is rock n' roll and I am a selfish prick . A 45-year-old man on drugs who drinks constantly isn't a cool and dangerous rebel anymore - when you're that old, it just means you're a lame junkie alcoholic. I'm glad Axl had the wisdom to quit back in the early '90s and go clean. It wouldn't look cool for a guy his age to be walking around high, taking shots of whiskey, getting into fights and smoking. It would be sad and pathetic.

Firts to say i had a better time than i excepted before show
And Boltonaza was right "Slash time is gone"
As we know,show was late and started about 11.45!
Guys you will see how powerfull is the begging of the gnr show,you have some psyhodelic and then "do you know where...."!!!
Arena was almost full,standing area was packing(i think that organization sold moretickets thantheycould),and on sitting area there were free about 500 seats!
There were eople of all generation,but i have to say onshow were lot of people older than 40,and that was great,because they were in greatmood!!!
Also i want tosaid in hotel i met with gnr fan from poland which name is Agata,so agata i hope that you had a great time.

About new songs:till the show my favorite new song were madagascar,and i didn't like better.
After show icould tell you the blues is next big gnr hit,that song is amazing,mady is fantastic song(new estranged),and better is genious song.I'mrealy excited about better,how good it is!!!

Old songs are great,and crowd were nuts from allof them,but for me big suprise were out ta getme and my michelle.These songs are very powerfull live!!!On knockinon heavens door whole arena were claping with hands and Axl sang with crowd like in 1991-1993.On jungle finck crashed guitar and on paradise city he went in the crowd.

I was sceptic about new players and fluid betweend them before show,but guysand gaals trust me there were big energy between themand betweenthemand crowd.I especialy liked ron thal and robin,but the other guys were fantastic too.Now gnr have a 3 guitar players,and you'llsee they are more talented than slash,and teyhave a better relation withcrowd than slash.
Especialy what is important,they have a better relatiopn with Axl.

Axl was great.his voice is great,and he was running on the stage whole show.Lot of energy were there.

I don't know about hoe were crowd in other shows,but in budapest crowd were fantastic and sanfg with axl and band the hole show.

My post was  a joke.  But you can't deny drugs have been responsible for inspiring some great  masterpieces .  So I think a little drugs in the studio would not be the worst thing in the world.

ok. i'll try to post a review of the show. please take note that this was my first gnr show so i might sound a little enthusiastic.

it was a 15 hour long drive to the show from bucharest romania (come to fuckin romania gnr!) so i was a little tired.

got to the arena half hour before the gates opened. there wre like 2000 people already there so i got in line and waited patiently. the gates finally opened and everybody was rushing in. got into the arena and took a spot in the 3rd-4th row in front of the stage (in the front of robin's mic). and then the waiting begun. didn't bring a watch at the show so i don't know exact times and delays

the opening band
don't know their name but i think they were pretty bad. they played the same song over and over again with a few variations. probably the lyrics were different but i don't speak hungarian so i couldn't tell. anyway, if i remember corectly they copied a whole alice cooper song (don't remember the name) and only put some different lyrics to it. there was another song that sonunded a lot with my michelle, at least the chorus was exactly the same. and their last one had the intro identically with locomotive. so... i didn't like it. sorry to all you hungarian fans but...

the wait
and after the opening band (glad that they were done) the waiting begins. after 30-45 mins of watching the gnr crew setting things on stage a guy comes out and says something in hungarian and everybody starts booing and shit and he goes away. i had to ask around what the fuck he was saying. you don't announce something at a gnr show just in hungarian. there's people there from all over the world that don't speak the language. speak some fuckin' english. anyway, some guy said that they'll be another 20-25 mins late due to technical difficulties (madrid, anyone?). so the 25 mins turned into 45 then into 1hr and a half. if axl wants to get this band rolling he should get his shit straight and come up on time or 30 mins late maybe but not more. i was standing there for five hours waiting for gnr. how to find the energy to jump and scream? (i found it when the show started). to the people saying i shoud've known they'll be up late: i'm aware of that but it was fucking hard to go through the wait.

the show
i'm not gonna list the songs because you've already got the correct setlist
so... the lights went down and the intro started. you know the 1 min intro that everybody knows just that this time we got the 1min turned into the 15 min intro because there were sound problems. i think that there were some problems with certain effects from chris's synth because my body was resonating at certain points. so they tried the intro a lot of times but it just wouldn't work and i thing they gave up on it.
the intro riff of the jungle started and the place went nuts in the first rows. jumping and pushing and screaming and singing along with the band. it was awesome to see the guys 6-7 ft away. i've watched a lot of shows on my comp but you can't compare that with the real thing.
so the first 4 songs were wttj, it's so easy, brownstone and better. before better axl said somthing about computers and downloading and stuff and he went on with the song. i was really losing it when the song started and i was jumping and singing along the lyrics while people around were looking at me and the few others that sang along with the "what tha fuck?" look on their face. it didn't matter to me. i was there for gnr. after better there was a solo. i was happy that a solo was next so i could catch my breath cos i was barely breathing from all the singing and jumping.
then it was live and let die and the crowd was singing along and the huge flames went off on stage making the air even hotter in there.
axl introduced madagascar with a one line something like: "i had to get a map to locate this" and he went on with the song. it was awesome hearing it live finally. madagascar and better were the 2 "new" songs i relly really wanted to hear and they played both. yey!
then it was time for robin's solo and we all know what song followed. yep, scom! when the intro to sweet child started everybody went nuts and sang along the whole song!
then another guitar solo. this time it was richard. and i have to say that this was my favorite of all the solos. i can't say exactly why. after the richard solo robin joined him on stage and they did their "battle" and sang "beautiful". it was a great moment to see this two guys interact and play from the heart. i think it was one of the few moments i saw robin smile during the show. it was awesome!
you could be mine followed than a jam (axl called it the taking out the piano song) to give time to the crew to get the piano out for dizzy.dizzy played a piano solo then they started the blues which sounded great. they hid the piano under the drum set and went on with out ta get me and knockin' on heaven's door. he did the i sing one you sing one thing but the people were already singing so he said "oh, i see you already know this". they played my michelle next and then it was time to take the piano out again. axl played a small piano solo and then november rain followed. this is the first song i remember from gnr (i was 3 years old when appetite came out) and is still one of my favourites so to hear it live it was unbelievable. it totally blew me away. all the solos during it were great. after nr they played another jam and axl joked saying "i guess we'll call this an old hungarian folk song" and smiled. i think he made refference to the 92 show and that it was just a joke not really a hungarian folk song.
they went on with nightrain and it was fantastic. i think during this robin tried to croud surf but the security didn't allow him to. the guys really nailed the song and the crowd was great. then they went off stage. some gnr chants started and ron got out and did the don't cry solo. it was definitley longer than the one in lisbon and tha crowd was singing along and ron was smiling and kept encouraging people to sing with him. which they did. he finished with an army style salute and gave a kiss to the croud. it was time for robin to take the stage and do his part. when he finished axl came on and said something like "that was mr finck doing somewhere over the rainbow" or something like that. he definitly said "over the rainbow".
then paradise city started and i knew that it was almost over so i jumpend and screamed my ass off. robin got down in front of the crowd and played while running in front of the people in the front row. then ron came down 3ft from me and was shaking hands and he got his guitar up and people grabbed it and he was holding on to it, that was really funny. all this was happening during paradise city. they closed the song, axl said good fuckin' night and that was it.

a few thoughts
it's a pity that they don't come out for encores after paradise city. they just turn the lights up and put music so no matter if the croud chants for them to come back they don't return.
during the breaks between songs there were some gnr chants going and tommy was really happy and smiling and he started jumping on stage with the chants and making funny faces. he looked like he was having a good time. one of the times he was acting funny axl came out from backstage and said in a joking way that a daddy has to let his children misbehave once in a while or something along those lines.
the solos were nice but there's too many of them. it gets people off the energy they get from the songs. for me they were welcomed because i was losing my breath and it gave me time to breathe. but theres too many solos.
to the people just standing around at the shows not reacting. i was there to rock the fuck out so don't get all upset because i'm jumping and screaming. you should do the same thing. a guns n' roses show doesn't happen everyday so i'm not going to stand there like in a theatre. rock n' roll fuckers'!!
i wasn't paying attention at the exactity of the songs, whether they sound exactly like in the studio or shit, so i can't tell you if someone missed a note or shit like that. i don't care. they sounded awesome overall. they maybe made some mistakes but not noticeable. axl's voice was awesome, he sounds great, so no problem there

to the haters
yes axl was wearing the same clothes like all the other shows. who gives a fuck? how many bands wear the same clothes at their shows? and he even has 4-5 jackets. most of the other frontmen only have one. he looks good. he's 44 years old. i don't think the kilt and the shirt like a net would do it anymore.
yes the setlist wasn't that different but if you think that they'll change the setlist a lot because it's another show? you don't get different versions of movies for different cities do you? fans at a gnr show will want to hear wttj, it's so easy, paradise, sweet child, nov rain, knockin and a few other and they have to play 2-3 new songs so that won't leave a lot of room for variations.
and it's not axl fault that we're downloading motherfuckers and have all the recordings that exist from this band and we all knoe how the show will look like before it even starts. well, it is his fault that he gave us 10 years time to collect all that stuff but... just be thankfull that gnr are out there playing and touring again. go to the shows and rock the fuck out. don't look for mistakes in the solos or in the songs, just go and have fun.


quite a long post i know but it was a great show for me. sorry for the typos and all other mistakes. got to see gnr live and the guys are great.

Robin left the stage while playing Better, few seconds before his nice-melodic solo and few moments after he smashed 1 guitar :hihi: ... It was funny, because Axl was like really into it and then looked back like: "Robin?" ... anyhow he was cool about it. Also Axl asked if there are some thechnical problems he is not made aware of and all was cool... GNR is a complex band with 3 guitars and  2 synths so the sound man should really get his ass together and make the sound... They are using speaker system (I don't know english words, we are calling it 'grapes' while the classic one is 'blocks' or whatever) that allows them not to kill people in first raws with loudness, but to distribute it evenly over the arena... 3 guitars really sounded over the edge from time to time, drums were great, bass had some frequency that my ear didn't like, but it may be position where I was seating and as I said Axls voice had some wrong compression at the beginning...

if i remember corectly i think i saw robin going backstage during better but about the guitar smashing thing i can't say caos i was watching the other guys on stage ;D you know there's lots of them :hihi:
