As already noted, some of them sucked, some of them were really good.

Whoever that guy was who did Roxanne sucked beyond belief... :hihi:

My favorite was Lucas though...

As Gilby said, he made Billy Idol's Rebel Yell his own : ok:

Di Lana was FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!

She is the greatest singer I have ever heard on any Reality TV Show.

I am very very hard to please and I usually laugh and make fun of these reality JOKES.

But she totally kicked my ass. She made me wanna get off the bed and run around the block a few times at top speed while screaming.

I thought she was awesome.

If she dont win they need to cancel the fuckin show.

All the dudes sucked and were poser lookin fucks.

I hate this corporate rock star bullshit.
american idol, cool, whatever, as long as i don't have to listen to it, I don't really care
but this shit is such a joke. it doesn't happen like magic. why don't these people make their own bands, write their own music. you know why music is declining in quality? because how can an artist be an artist with the fucking american public making their decisions?
tommy lee just likes when he's the centre of attention, and gilby let's face it, has nothing better to do.

basically, whichever singer is chosen is just going to be the puppet. it's all just gimmickery.
i don't watch american idol but i am always astounded when people who consider themselves rockers would sign up for being the production team's bitch. that is basically what this is, with a pretense of 'rock star'. rock stars aren't found, they're made.
does anyone even remember what rock n' roll is?

I thought Supernova was awesome. Its like they melded all my favorite bands together. I've been a huge fan of Jason N. for ages and couldn't be happier he's finally got some props.
I thought a couple of the chicks were good- but most of them were weak and sucked. It could have also been the choice of song...
I agree Di Lana gave me chills...she fuckin' rocks! She fits the mold baby!

You know something all these guys are proven they don't need to follow any rock n roll metal rules.. I think it's great these guys get out and have some fun...  I mean gilby jason and tommy is more for fun then anything.. I think once you become big and accomplished you should do whatever benefits yourself and still have somefun .. I hate when bands hide or you never see your favorites/// This is nice for the fans

I liked the guy who sang "Yellow" by Coldplay best-the girl who sang the Nirvana song-the band seemed to like her the most, which worries me-I didn't like her-was there anyone over the age of 25 here? Obviously they want someone "pretty", which sucks-will be fun to watch cuz of who is involved, but I doubt they will find the next Marilyn Manson, like Tommy Lee says. I love Gilby, can't blame him for doing it-it beats playing in clubs for 100 people-it's national TV

Dilana is my favorite so far. She has a lot of intensity in her voice, which is perfect for a group like this.

I couldn't understand some of the song choices. Coldplay, Goo Goo Dolls, etc... This is a hard rock band. Why would you sing adult contemporary if you're auditioning for Metallica, Gn'R and Motley Crue? Doesn't make sense. I think Tommy Lee pointed that out as well.

I think Dilana kicks ass. I think she has them where she wants them too. They asked her to do an encore. That's wrong though to pick a favorite this soon.

As they explained last night they had a list of songs to choose from. They didn't get to chose just any song. There was only a selction of them and they were to pick the song they could do best from that list. However, if most of the songs suck (like they did) I don't think in a way that is fair either.

I think the dude who got chosen to go home deserved it. I didn't dislike him as much as the other two, but DUDE! They gave you a chance to rock out to ANY song and he chose Duran Duran!!! WTF?? Don't get me wrong, I love D2 as much as the next gal, but not to rock Tommy Lee's, Gilby's and Jason's socks off. What a lamo choice!

This show is worse than American Idol.  Atleast American Idol  admits to being corporate Pop  shit , this crap  is trying to pass itself as legit  rock .   What a fuckin joke of a reality show.   I am disappointed with jason newsted,  he quit metallica  because they were becoming a joke  and then chooses to do this shit?   He has lost all credibility he once had in my opinion.  Is Metallica that bad  that he would rather be in a band with a media whore /porno star/ wigger drummer ,  a Guns n' roses  has been( that wasn't even a real memeber as far as I'm concerned.  if izzy would have decided to comeback he would have been kicked to the curb.)   and some Emo  American Idol wannabe  douche bag  that probably still lives at home with his parents  as a lead singer ??    And people wonder why Rock n' Roll is such shit  now.

FUCK REALITY TV  AND FUCK THIS STUPID SHOW

The producers are to blame for the song selections then. What were they thinking? There are plenty of hard rock ballads out there. They don't have to resort to adult contemporary in order to hear diversity.

Well tonight's show was pretty fuckin' lame.

Delana was the only good performance in my opinion, and shame on Supernova for inflating the egos of some really shitty singers.

Seriously, pretty much all the guys should just quit and join America's next top model or something...all the puppydog looks to the camera, and soft-rock ballads are just so un-rock it's funny :hihi:

Zayra needs to go. Just because Jason has a hardon for her doesn't mean she can front the band. Bang her and send her on her way. That's the metal thing to do.
Dilana is awesome. She's the only one that impressed me 2 weeks in a row. Sad only one contestant does. I like Josh, but I'm not sure he's the right fit for Supernova. And I absolutely adore Storm, but again, not sure she's got what it takes to lead a group like Supernova. Dilana in all honesty doesn't need to front any band- she should hit it on her own, but what a way to start your career, eh?

She said something direct to Gilby, who was the one talking to her (and the rest of the band went apeshit when she responded): "I was in diapers when YOUR music came out." The second night she backed off a bit and claimed she was to poor to "own" the albums but had listened to some of their music, without being specific. Gilby asked her repeatedly if she thought it was important to know the music of the band she wanted to front. She was equivocal and never answered directly. At the end gilby admonished her for "not doing your homework." A true rock and roll moment.

well he toured on the biggest tour they did and also appears on Live Era...GnR is how he became famous so just listening to them would show the kinda stuff he plays, also he has multiple solo albums and appeared on the first snakepit disk.

Regardless...if i was gonna audition for a band I'd try to understand what was goin on with the type of shit they play..even to buying a voivod or MOM disk ;) but that's just me... :hihi:

Im sayin Gilby wasnt really in GNR

He was a hired musician on the biggest tour but trust me, no one in the house bought a ticket to see Gilby Clarke but yet he sits up there like some hot shot.

If Gilby dissed me, Id be like "Dude, when u write a fuckin song u can talk shit"

Tommy can talk, Jason can talk a little but Gilby truly has no right to say much of anything.

Thing is Goldie, these people are basically committing career suicide.'

Anyone who sings on a reality TV show outside Kelly clarkson have ZERO credibility.

If u dont win, u are finished.

Anybody on American Idol ever got signed other than the winner and some of the runners up?

Clarkson has the only career the rest will always be "American Idols" which is too big a stigma to overcome.

Same with this, Supernova arent a serious group, they may make one album tops and then what? U? have no shot to ever do anything else cause u get the stigma of being on Rockstar Supernova.

Dilana wasted her talent doing this show.

I love Tommy Lee more than words can describe but this band aint goin big time.

So Dilana couldve been great on her own, getting discovered, but now she committed career suicide the day she stepped onto a reality TV set.

They had American Idol auditions where I live earlier this week. U couldnt pay me to try out for some lame shit like that.

Well, I've never watched American Idol. Too pussy for me. I only started watching Supernova because of 1- Jason and 2- T Lee. I do agree that in the American Idol situation all were washed up except for Kelly Clarkson, but who really cares anyway?
I sort of agreed maybe Dilana is committing career suicide, but if I had a chance to tour with Jason and Tommy Lee I'd be up there singing "Mandy" by Barry Manilow!!
PS- I'm also on the Gilby not being a true member of GNR movement. Yeah, he PLAYED with them, but so did an orchestra. Is there some violinist going around saying they were in Guns N' Roses?

Im sayin Gilby wasnt really in GNR

He was a hired musician on the biggest tour but trust me, no one in the house bought a ticket to see Gilby Clarke but yet he sits up there like some hot shot.

If Gilby dissed me, Id be like "Dude, when u write a fuckin song u can talk shit"

his solo stuff rocks IMO though and he also wrote some stuff for snake pit which i love too..also some of those tunes were meant for the GnR disk, but he got fired and  then GnR broke up...I've been kicking around the idea that the Clarke/Tobias situation was part of the reason for the "creative and moral differences" but like i said it's just a theory

as for him not being in GnR...he was...he was in every video after Don't Cry...

Live And Let Die / November Rain / Yesterdays / The Garden / Dead Horse / Garden Of Eden / Estranged / Since I Don't Have You

he was as much a part of GnR as anybody currently in the band right now IMHO

as far as i know, gilby never said he wrote songs for GNR, did he? what gilby said was, did you hear any of our band.

now, one can NOT deny that he was in GNR.. and thus makes it his band and the singer he/they are looking for are a great rock singer and frontman, like, say, Axl Rose.... thats what he is looking for.

when did he claim to be a main ingredients to GNR?

He didn't but an ex-member of GnR gets more viewers than a random solo artist :hihi:

um the comment i said about him writing some for the album that never was....pure speculation on my part ;)

there is interviews that Axl says that 5 O'Clock was gonna be the next GnR album and also there is a rumor that says Axl was pissed that Gilby made a solo disk instead of bringing some of his songs on Pawnshop Guitars album to the GnR table...

gilby was fired June of '94 then later that month his album was released...so the recording was already done

I had a problem with Gilby saying "do you own any of our albums?"  How many casual GNR fans have a GNR album with Gilby playing on it?  I mean, sure he was on "The Spaghetti Incident?", and he knows not a lot of people went for his solo records, so what the hell was he talking about?  :hihi:

Well tonight's show was pretty fuckin' lame.

Delana was the only good performance in my opinion, and shame on Supernova for inflating the egos of some really shitty singers.

Seriously, pretty much all the guys should just quit and join America's next top model or something...all the puppydog looks to the camera, and soft-rock ballads are just so un-rock it's funny :hihi:

I reckon the girls are kicking all the guys asses, they're all lame-emo college student types, the only half decent guys are Toby, Lukas and Magni. The girls have the strongest voices - Jill has a huge voice for such a small girl, same with Patrice and Storm.

The rest can fuck off ;D

I want a bad ass rocker to front this band and they're singing soppy ballads to try to impress... ???

Well, tonight's performances once again really didn't do too much for me, save for Lukas and Delana's performances... :-\

Alot of those singers should be fronting the next pop sensation, and not what will hopefully be a hard rock band...but I guess I should just stop watching the show expecting to see anyone blow one right out of the park, and just view it as "entertainment".. :hihi:

Dana has to go...and Zayra, and Ryan, and Jenny, and Josh

they should just boot those five and spend 5 weeks performing and training with the vocal coach in private lessons away from the group then start voting off again....I'm really disappointed with the talent on the show...

Lukas is the best by far IMO

Sure Bon Jovi is pretty tame for Rock n' Roll, but that was just too damn funny.. :hihi:

The dude who did White Rabbit was pretty damn shitty too...

I was mighty stoned at the time and was hoping for something great, but unfortunately it was not mean't to be.. :-\

It wasn't just his voice that annoyed me...it was him smiling like he just lost his virginity through a Nirvana song.. :hihi:

He tried to almost growl or something to a few verses of the song, which just made it sound even more so like kereoke.. :-\

Zayra has been a good performer the last two weeks in my eyes, whereas the judges haven't liked her..but last night, her REM song was BRUUUUTAL...even more so then the original... :hihi:

That performance wasn't awful enough.. Ughhh, they showed  a clip of Tommy or Dave {I forget which} during it & I could just see him saying to himself "Kurt Cobain is turning over in his grave right now"..

Overall I think the chick who sang 'Drive' was worst.. Just not what they are looking for.

That said, these guys suck as judges though, every performance they either respond "You rocked" or "I'm just not feeling it, next week you gotta bring it. Next week." Fuck next week, how about tonight how about "That sucked, I did not like that" I think Gilby said something close, and the chick mocked him in a "I care about you the least" kindof way. Newstead seems on completely different pages than everyone else, he gets into the one's they hate, and hates the one Tommy & Dave like. He seems to fall for the 'fake' people.

I'd say, so far, Lukas, Storm Large, and Dilyana are my front runners.  That Toby guy might and/or the Moby looking guy MIGHT sneak in, too...but I don't know.

Is it just me or do the girls seem to actually be more talented than the guys this year?  For the INXS version, from what little I saw of it, it seemed the other way around.  But this year...most of the girls have some serious chops.

You're picks are identical to mine Pilferk :)

I don't think the Toby guy really has much of a voice to speak of, or maybe it's just the accent, or maybe it's just his annoying exageration of almost every note he sings.. :hihi:

Im no singer, but I can hands down sing a better version of Runaway Train than that guy pulled off.. :-\

As for Moby's twin...I was pretty shocked when they asked him for an encore peformance...

He's a good singer, but nothing mindblowing, much alike Scott Weiland...but I would have taken Scott over than dude...

You're correct about the talent of the girls vs. the guys though...

Every week I tune in knowing one of the girls will blow one out of the park, while simultaneously also knowing that 90% of the guys are going to make me cringe.. :hihi:

Too bad they can't get rid of 2 people at once. This thing is going to drag on for 9 more weeks. I still like the show, but it is kind  of getting old already. The Puerto Rican chick has got to go, she does not fit into a rock band. She only stayed because the guy who got booted (Week 3) has no stage  presence.

Did anyone notice how Lucas is totally into himself and seems not to support or even enjoy the other singers when they perform? He just sits there, like he is too cool.

I can't imagine why Supernova would choose to select a lead  singer this way. I guess the network is paying them a lot of money. No one can be that desperate.

Anyone else find it laughable that Jason and Tommy would question that guys commitment to the band?

Lets see:

Tommy is in Motley Crue bout to start a new tour and release a new album.

Jason basically admitted he was doing the show just to get some free pub for Voivod.

So how the fuck can they question someone's commitment to a band that they themselves are only using for a self promoting vehicle?

I agree that the Penelope Cruz lookalike with a name that starts with Z should have gone.  I mean COME ON!  She's been in the bottom 3 for-freaking-ever.  You can call Phil's commitment into question, I guess....but you can give the guy another shot to prove that.  Z-chick has proven she is just NOT going to be a good fit...so why keep her around (as anything other than their eye candy?).

For me, this week, Dilyra and Storm were the highlights, followed by Lukas.  For my money, those are still the 3 to beat.

Storm's stage dive was freaking awesome.

Post by: Stupid Head on July 30, 2006, 06:07:00 AM
This is from the last elemination that didnt make it to air:
Hol-ee SHIT!!!

Best. Elimination. Taping. EVAH!!!

This one had it all: Intense Drama, Contentious Arguments, Awesome Performances, and (dare I say it?) a Surprise or two along the way. I don?t know how much will make it on air, however. There was an abundance of juicy stuff ? and I think you guys are gonna want me to fill in the blanks when it?s all over. (DAMN, I wish I had a tape recorder at this one!)

After Brooke announced that voting was up another 15%, we got the usual recap ? with the performances of Lukas, Toby, Dana, Ryan, and Dilana all highlighted as being the best of the bunch. According to the tape, more problematic performances came from Phil, Josh, Magni, Zayra, Jill and Patrice ? before Storm got the show back on track.

Following the recap, we got a brief Q&A between Dave, SN and the Rockers, before we went into the ?Back At The Mansion? footage. This reel focused on Jill, still smarting from Gilby?s comments, and Dana, talking with Dilana and Ryan, and hearing some unpleasant comments.

The Q&A which followed this footage was AWESOME! Gilby started by following up on his comment to Jill ? who got increasingly defensive. Before we knew it, it turned into a verbal knock down, drag out with Gilby and Jill really going at it! There?s no way that more than a snippet of this will make it on air, despite Dave commenting that this was TV at its best! ?It?s better than watching Crossfire!? he proclaimed. (FWIW, I thought Gilby came out the winner this round.)

After Dave questioned Dana and Dilana about their clip, Jason started in on Ryan. And I mean really started in on Ryan. He said he had a problem with Ryan?s comments to Dana and that, though Ryan criticizes Dana, her voice and stage presence are better than his. (Ouch!) Ryan flails around a bit trying to explain himself, but Jason just keeps hammering away. It gets to the point that Brooke walks back out on stage, apparently unscripted, and tries to intervene: ?There is so much tension here. Where is the love?? To which Dave, who is obviously eating it all up, replies: ?When?s recess??

After almost a half an hour of contentious Q&A, I wondered if we were ever going to get to an encore. Well, we did ? but even that seemed to have some drama attached to it. When Brooke asked Tommy for the encore choice, he said they needed to talk about it some more! And, sure enough, SN left the pod and went backstage for awhile. Trust me, it?s never happened like this before. Even the House Band looked uncertain about what was going on.

More minutes passed before SN returned and announced their choice. We can speculate all we want about whether this was their original choice or not, and whether they had second thoughts or not. Unfortunately, I have no more info or insight into what really went down.

And, now, what everyone is waiting for: The Bottom 3!

In addition to the Early Voting Results Bottom 3 (Jill, Josh, and Zayra), TWO other Rockers hit the Bottom 3 in the course of the voting. And, as has happened a couple times now, the Final Bottom 3 did not end up the same as the Early Results one. (Dave admitted that he was surprised at one of the B3 Rockers.)

The songs performed by the Bottom 3 were:

My Iron Lung, Radiohead
I?m Not An Addict, K?s Choice
Smoking Umbrellas, Failure

As was the case in Week 2, the Rockers sang their hearts out ? with each one delivering probably their best performance to date! It was a treat to experience; but, yet again, it made Supernova?s decision less clear-cut than you would think.

Supernova deliberated for about 20 minutes. Then the Hatchet Man (wearing a red, horned Devil?s hood) made the cut. Following my earlier promise, I refuse to use the word ?surprise? in describing the outcome. ;)

Then, in one last final twist, the expelled Rocker is hoist on their own petard - as Dave uses their own words against them. (OUCH!)

All in all, this was one unfuckingbelieveable show!

the show is a joke, but very entertaining TV. the whole show is filled with comedy...

- everyone acting like SN is a real band
- gilby acting like he's a respected rock star
- tommy lee acting like he hates breaking the bad news right after he swings a fake ax and screams "i'm the hatchet man!!"
- the idea that these are the best singers they could find from around the globe. it still makes me laugh everytime i hear that.

my top 3 are:
1. dilana
2. toby
3. lukas

A pretty good night last night.  Z-bitch was once again the worst.  Of the "top" group, I thought only Lucas didn't put on  a good show.

How awful was that chick doing "867-5309" She was spinning around in that cape like she was some Superhero.. Was she auditioning for a Rock Band or Wonder Woman??

The girl singing the Breakfast Club song was bad too, (The one who grinded on Gilby last week). Although I didn't think she was as bad as the chick with the cape. She needs to go though, get her job at Hooters back serving chicken wings and beer which is probably what she does best.

Of the best, Lucas was off, tough to follow the guy with the piano though, esp with all the praise he got. I thought the piano song was good, not as great as they made it out to be. Still gotta say the chick with the pink & black hair will win.

i noticed the shirt, but it looked slightly different to me, and quickly assumed it wasn't. i could be wrong though.

does anyone think it was? i believe slash is supposed to be a guest judge one week.

it was a boring show for me. a bunch of very weak performances, and the good singers were very average.

i hate the dude that did REM, but that performance was incredible. i think he should get the encore.

dilana again showed she is by far the best. no one else is even in her league. it will be interesting to see if SN is willing to have a woman front their band.

dilana really didn't impress me....she tried too hard to be "80's" imo and wtf was up with the Cher getup? and going up on the platform to shake her booty for SN....come on it's ok fro Dilana but not Jill...besides that ain't her :-\

they really gotta lose the shitty song selection...WTF!? throw some ozzy or something in there...hell even some crue, gnr or metallica...they say "We don't wanna play this kinda shit"....well fuck pick some tunes are like you wanna play then

Title: Re: Supernova, rock star is on now
Post by: pasnow on August 02, 2006, 11:46:09 AM
I think Dilana chose a pretty average song, but perfomed it pretty well. IMHO at least.

As for song selection, I'm surprised they are getting the songs they are getting. I remember the first season of Amer Idol they would sing pretty much the same song every few weeks. I suppose they only got the rights to a few to sing, but as the show became popular, songwriters & owners of the rights to the song discovered there is probably a huge market and $$$ to be made from it.

I'm sure some artists like to hold on to their integrity so don't expect Ozzy or Metallica or Pearl Jam on there anytime soon. That said, I heard on the radio a few months ago Courtney Love sold like 60% (probably the good 60%) of Nirvana's collection to an "investor".. Which explains why their songs are flooding this show.. What's next, a Mazda commercial??

On the back was definitely a top hat wearing, long black haired skull (I think with a ciggie in it's mouth).  We paused it about 7 times and rewound it just so I could make sure.  It sure looked like the old AFD-era Slash icon.....but I couldn't make out any text, so.....

I will triple check the TIVO tonight to make sure.

I don't know if it's a specific Slash design or just a skull.. You can pause it early on before he hugs the chick who sings and get a decent view of it. Let me know what you think.. Good catch though Pilferk.

I still think Dilana rocks them all! She gives me chills everytime. I don't get cape woman! Why do they keep the z-disaster? Just so there is something to laugh at? If so, that's cruel and wasting our time having to suffer every week. Storm was incredible!
The whole thing is rigged! That Zahira (or whoever the fuck she is) is still there and last night Lukas deserved to be in the bottom 3 and was not. His performance this week was one of the worst I had seen any of them do.
I have been wonder that as well- where are all the heavy songs? I'm sick of all the new shit. Bring on some good Black Sabbath or Led Zepplin for crying out loud! BRING IT!
I also thought that Tommy Lee was wearing a GNR shirt. I guess he didn't get it from Gilby's closet...hee hee? ;D

I, too, would have sent Patrice packing last night (well, actually, I would have sent Z-bitch packing last night if I'd had carte' blanche, but of the bottom 3....).

Jill saved herself with a killer performance.

So it would come down to Dana and Patrice.  Dana has gotten better every week.  Was there room for improvement? Sure there was...lots.  But Patrice said it herself: If you can't get up there in front of the band, you shouldn't be there.  And she got up, with Tommy, and still hit the bottom 3.  To me....that means she should go, and Dana should get to stay and keep improving.

Of course, the bottom line is: None of those 3 ladies have, IMHO, a remote chance at fronting this band, anyway...so I guess in the long run it doesn't much matter which of the 3 went, since they'll all likely go eventually.

Next week is going to be interesting.....they're going to write lyrics and melodies for a new track.  Is that what they're going to be performing, too?  I'd assume they are...which will be good TV, I think.  I'd guess some good stuff and some train wrecks.

Dana is the gayest most goofy lookin fuckin chick ever.

She is such a poser.....

She looks like an american Idol reject PRETENDING to be a rocker.

She was absolutely my least favorite and I was thrilled to see her go.

Once again I think its between... DiLana who should have it wrapped up.... Lucas or Magni.

i actually think dana is really cute. i have a thing for that southern charm.  :hihi:

sure, she's somewhat of a poser. she was trying to become what they wanted. can't blame her for that. she's only 22 and still trying to discover her true identity (which may actually be a hard rock chick).

patrice is a TOTAL poser. and she's in her 30's so it's really pathetic. and she's not even good at acting like a hard rocker - it really comes off as fake. and she can't sing.

You know, I don't disagree with you.  Like I said...none of the bottom 3 had a shot in hell.  But, based on just this week, I would have sent Patrice home and kept Dana around a bit longer.  I'm not exactly sorry to see her go, I just think she deserved to stay THIS week.

On your list...I would agree Dilana, Lucas, and Magni have been excellent.  I'd add Storm Large to that group and I think you have the top contenders.

hilarious! she's a train wreck.

but i hope she stays around a couple more weeks. seeing what she's gonna do each week is much more interesting than watching some of the other shitty singers/performers on that show.

Those that were good every week were very, very good last night.

those that are mediocre ever week were very, very mediocre.

And z-bitch was, once again, god awful....it sounded like 2 cats fucking.  God, I hope she goes home tonight...though Jill and Patrice weren't exactly wonderful, either.

Dilana was my fav, followed by Lukas and then Storm.

Thing about Jill is she overdoes it on the vocals. And like Tommy said about Lukas' version of the Supernova track, "he gets it.", well the opposite can be said about Jill - she doesn't get it.

At least Patrice is closer than Jill in that regard. But I can't stand either one of 'em, so I don't really give two fucks.

Oh, absolutely! And on top of all that, she comes across as false when she's performing!

But at least she gets the Supernova vibe and makes an honest effort to be something she's not. Which, incidentally, accentuates even further her inability to win the competition.

Jill on the other hand may change up her performance style, maybe even tone down the vocals (see last night), but when it's all said and done one can clearly see that she doesn't quite get where she needs to go and what she needs to do in order to front Supernova.

So...

EDIT - Wow. Didn't expect that particular bottom three... :o

I guess I should have went with my first instinct.

Storm is amazing as well.

the guys.... Lucas looks like AJ from the Backstreet Boys and kind of sings like him.

Magni is good, I loved Tobey's performance til he pulled out the stupid megaphone.

My projected top 5 - Lukas, Dilana, Storm, Magni and Toby

I think there is an internet group striving to keep Zayra around...I know American Idol has a group that tries to keep the worst one around. I wonder what she is gonna butcher next week :hihi: one good thing though we didn't have to endure an elimination performance by her last night

but by golly, she is an awful lyricist!

did you see that webisode on the website where they wrote lyrics for an original supernova track.

awful...........just awful.

doesn't matter though, i doubt supernova would want a lyricist since if they got dilana they could write all the songs without having to pay her royalties.

Dilana is the ultimate. I agree- I think she's the female Axl Rose. She kills every song every time and she has maturity and balls. She is perfect for the band IMO.
Zbitch needs to fucking go. I'm sick of her! She gets to go to Vegas just cause she wears a freaky outfit?? That makes this whole competition a fucking joke.
I wish there was some way you could vote for who you think should GO instead of stay. I could vote for Dilana all friggin' day but that's not going to send Zbitch home.
I think certain ones have a fan base thus they never get voted to the bottom 3. Perfect example is Lukas screwed up last week, but he didn't even get voted to the bottom 3.
I'm dying to see who wins this, but the BS in between is like watching an animal get hit by a car and die a slow death.

Ryan Sucks

Look, there are songs in music, that are just great songs:

Black By Pearl Jam can be s ung by anyone and its still gonna kick ass, cause its a kick ass song, same with Losing My Religion. That song is so deep and emotional that anyone could sing that song and it still be amazing.

want proof?

Just look at the rest of Ryan's body of work.  everything he has done sucks but that one song was awesome. See my point?

Yes, Once again Dilana proved she's the best. Its getting to the point where I'm just thinking why don't they just chose her and get it over with?
I have not liked Lukas from the beginning but last night I thought he was really good. But yet they gave him a (pardon the pun) LUKEwarm response. What was up with that?
Storm did the best with what she had. How much can you rock out I Will Survive? I think they purposely put these songs in there to set them up to fail. Granted I love Storm, but even I was bored with the performance. But as I said I attribute that to the song, not her.
Z-bitch. Nice song...I'll give her that. Whatever the fuck it was about. However, she's still not getting that she's not the style they are looking for. YET THEY KEEP HER! Nobody has yet to answer me why.
Patrice needs to go. That absolutely sucked.
The thing that bothered me the most last night was most of the performers complained they were still "reviving" from the trip to Vegas. So, are you saying you can't go on world tour where every night is going to be like that?? Did any of the guys pick up on that? ???
I'll stop ranting now! ;D
I'm sure I'll be back tomorrow to rant some more though. Thanks for listening to my two cents!

And I agree 1000%.

My bottom 3 this week, tough as it is to say, would be Z-bitch, Patrice, and Storm.  Though I agree, Storm did the best with what she had....she had shit.  It was just hard to watch...and you could tell she wasn't happy with the song selection at all.  How THAT song could be included for them to choose...no matter who got it they were gonna suck.  But Storm's comment was funny as fuck: "I partied in Vegas with these guys, went back, went to sleep, and I woke up with Gloria Gaynard."  Out of context, that sounds like the begining of a very interesting story.

Dilana was, far and away, the best last night.  I agree with the rest of the crew on that one, too.

patrice will go home tonight. she's awful. i hate that dude ryan but he's been good the last few weeks.

and i disagree big time with the argument many have amde that a good song = good performance; and bad song = weak performance.

talented performers change arrangements and bring something extra to the table. dilana has not had the best of songs to work with, yet she has made every single performance a memorable one.

I've been bored of her since week 2 (except for the cyndi lauper tune) she's got no depth IMO  I mean she's one of the best singers there but i can imagine getting bored of her quick :peace:

and fuck she is getting so cocky and wearing more and more revealing clothes...what happened to the brooding rocker chick that could snap at any moment and was all about Gilby's statement that women are more than sex objects...now she wears Stilletto's and Corresettes and shakes her booty at the supernova platform...c'mon man

dilana and lukas are both cocky. none of them has impressed me in a while.

Ryan and Toby seem a lot more interesting to me.

Dilana fucked up the lyrics...obviously nobody noticed....Toby was the best IMO and the Bongos was a great touch

How the fuck was he in the bottom 3!!!

I say Zayra, Patrice and Storm in the bottom

I noticed.  The 2nd chorus she sang the last chorus, instead of the repeat of the first, like she was supposed to.

I hate this corporate rock star bullshit.
american idol, cool, whatever, as long as i don't have to listen to it, I don't really care
but this shit is such a joke. it doesn't happen like magic. why don't these people make their own bands, write their own music. you know why music is declining in quality? because how can an artist be an artist with the fucking american public making their decisions?
tommy lee just likes when he's the centre of attention, and gilby let's face it, has nothing better to do.

i agree with some of what you said, mostly the corporate bullshit.  but ive actually been tuning into the show every night and i can say that alot of the performers were in bands and write and play instruments.  so its not totally like american idol, there is talent in it.  but i have to admit the more shows like this and artists coming up this way is definatley declining the quality in music.  from what ive heard of the (2 i think) official tracks supernova have played i dont like the sound or lyrics.  sounds like bubblegum rock to me (new term maybe i dunno, in my own words id describe it as cheesy rock thats the complete opposite of a band like GNR or velvet revolver)

patrice will go home tonight. she's awful. i hate that dude ryan but he's been good the last few weeks.

and i disagree big time with the argument many have amde that a good song = good performance; and bad song = weak performance.

talented performers change arrangements and bring something extra to the table. dilana has not had the best of songs to work with, yet she has made every single performance a memorable one.

And I disagree with your disagreement, at least partially. :)

Even the guys said it last night: ?Storm sang the song just fine. ?It was the song, itself, they didn't like. ?They wanted her to do the Cake "version" (and, IMHO, they're probably right), rather than the Gloria Gaynard version, with a more ironic edge to it. ?Personally, I've heard the Cake version. ?It still sucks. ?THAT song, in a rock competition, is going to pretty much suck. ?At least to me.  It always sounds the same, no matter who plays it, or who sings the lyrics.

Oh, and Dilana: ?She's gotten great songs to work with, I think. ?She's gotten songs then lend themselves to different arrangements and styles. ?They might have been outside the rock mainstream, but that doesn't make them "bad songs". ?The Cyndi Lauper tune is a great example. ?Time After Time, when you look at the musical structure and the lyrics IS, actually, a great song....simply because it sounds good and "works" on a simple piano or tricked out, sped up, and played by a guitar heavy rock band. ?Something you can't say, really, for "I will Survive".

So, I agree that you can take some songs and turn them into good performances. ?But there are some songs that just don't lend themselves to that, especially in this venue...and I think Storm got one.

but storm didn't even sing it well. and more importantly, "i will survive" has soooooooo much emotion in it. and i think someone even said the lyrics are applicable to the competition, yet she had no emotion at all.

no emotion, wrong arrangement, and average singing. that's why her performance sucked.

and dave even made my argument for me. he pointed out a song someone sang last year that was ridiculous (i think it was a britney spears song). but he made it work. any song can used to display your talents.

Storm is getting on my nerves...Dilana rocked with the band though last night, but then pissed me off by crying during Magni's performance...give it a fucking rest :hihi:

Zayra actually rocked last night but too little too late for her...now the eliminations get tough :-\ Ryan, Toby and Magni are really stepping it up while Patrice seems on the way out....Storm, Dilana and Lukas are kinda in a stalemate at this point

HOORAY!! ;D
Z-bitch is gone! Ding Dong the bitch is gone! She may have talent, but not for Super Nova.
Okay, I'm bummed though. Was anyone else bored with the "rockin" song Super Nova performed? They are constantly telling the contestants to "rock it out" more, but they need to take thier own advice!
I think Patrice should be next on the chopping block.
Agree- its a stalemate but I think the top 3 are Dilana, Lukas, and Magni. Not my choices. I would chose Dilana, Storm, and Toby.
I wish there was a way to vote for someone to go home instead of you favorite.

Yeah, that performance wont have me waiting online to buy the CD when it comes out.

I also received an e-mail that the contestants from Rockstar Supernova will be appearing at Universal Studios Citywalk in Hollywood, CA next Friday (08/25/06). No details on what was happening.

Dave, and the rest of Supernova, disagree with you (as do I) on how Storm sang the song (vocals, we're talking).  They said she sounded fine.  I agree....her vocals were as good as most of the other singers.

As for "emotion" in "I will survive", it's cheesy, overdone, half baked, sappy, crappy emotion.  That's why the song sucks so badly.  If you take it seriously, you look like a sap.  If you don't take it seriously (the irony angle Navarro wanted), you end up with a version like Cake's..which also sucks.

And I stand by my opinin that the reason her performance sucked (and it was her first sub par performance) was because the material sucked.

Dave might have said what he did about the Britney song...but I saw the guy do it.  It was terrible.  He made it work because he embraced the "terribleness" of it.....but I'm not sure a Gloria Gaynard song embraces enough pop culture irony to make the same sort of performance "work".  I suppose she COULD have tried, but I'm not sure it would have been any less of a train wreck than what we got.

I thought the song was OK.  Not great, not wonderful, but OK.

I could certainly hear the Motley Crue influences, though...but very little of Jason's roots, which I think they need more of.  Gilby....I'm not sure Gilby HAS a real "sound".  Don't get me wrong...he's a good guitarist...but I've heard him play all sorts of stuff, and he doesn't seem to write/perform with a particular style.  With most signature guitarists, I can pick out who they are just by hearing them play something.  With Gilby (and again, not taking away from the dude) it just sort of sounds like "generic guitar player A".

And the song really, really, really displayed why they need another guitarist playing rhythm.

you're right. i disagree with dave (and you) on how well she sung the song. slightly disagree is a better way of putting it....i said it was average.

but that's not really what we're discussing here.

we're discussing the fact that her performance sucked, and whether it's possible for it to have been better. we can agree to disagree, cause i believe ANY song can be performed well. and "i will survive" should have been better. song selection is not an excuse.

dave obviously agrees with that point. and tommy's comment ("sauteed in wrong sauce") leads me to believe he agrees with that point as well. since as you pointed out, everyone thought her vocals were good. so something was obviously missing.

i also disagree with you that this was her first "sub-par" performance. she's had a couple average performances IMO. someone even stated her performances in recent weeks have been vulnerable (or something like that).

she has kinde very evil face , and you have feel that she thinking something like this : ''who the fuck are you to judge me '' remember when Dave told her to do something different, and she ask him: Do you change your self every night ? and Dave told her that she the who  want to be on the show, what kinda stupid question , he is a guitar player he dont need to change himself every time he goes on stage .

Didn't miss much, except some AWFUL performances.. They were allowed two of them to perform an original song. The one average chick who's been in the bottom three the last few weeks, the other members felt she should get a shot at performing. And another guy, Ryan I think. The chick's was ok, but certainly not meant for a band consisting of Tommy Lee, the bassist from Metallica, and a guitarist from GNR. It was called "Happy Again" or something, more for Avril Lavrigne or Kelly Clarkson. The guy Ryan, the lyrics were pretty bad, ("It's a perfect night, to ride in my car, it's a perfect night to take off your clothes") but overall wasn't all that bad. Myb like a heavy 3rd Eye Blind song.

Magni, did Teen Spirit, which I changed the channel at first because I felt it would be a disgrace, then thought I'd check it out. Surprisingly wasn't all that bad. Navarro said he "sang it with angst" which he did. Also chose not to play guitar on it, which I liked as it's becoming cliche on this show. Storm was awful in trying to cover Aerosmith's "Cryin" kept trying to belt out notes she can't hit. Towards the end went into her 'crazy' mode. And the Australin guy, Toby I think, redid Layla and it just couldn't get awful enough. Ughhh. Myb it's just me though, as the judges, as always, were very complimentary.

Delila was awesome, as she did "Every Breathe you Take" and did it really well. Stuck to the original, very soft, a little heavy in there for a bit, but not too heavy. And Lukas capped it off pretty well considering I never heard the song before. It was a song by the Killers, but not one of their hits. He had alot of stage presence and seemed to sing it pretty well.

Predictions for bottom 3 - Girl who sung Happy song, Storm, Toby. Happy song girl goes off.

Hope this helps, : ok:

thanks for the review. sounds somewhat disappointing.

the talent level is so weak. i've seen cover bands in small clubs with better lead singers than anyone on this show.

i heard dave navarro interviewed on wmmr in philly a couple weeks ago. and it was strange - he made some really negative comments about the show. he said he would never go about finding a lead singer this way. and then he essentially criticized the talent level of the singers. the exchange went something like this:

DJ: "is there a chance Supernova will walk away with no lead singer?"
Dave: "if it was my show, there would definitely be a chance."

and everyone started cracking up and saying how horrible the singers are.

Here goes my weekly rant!? ;)

I thought they were all pretty good this week. Patrice had an awesome original song, but it sounded as if she couldn't sing her own damn song. Poor bird. Ryan screamed too much for my tastes. If you aren't Axl Rose or Rob Halford don't scream!
Personally, I thought Storm rocked that song! But of course these are all just my opinions. Lukas is still turning his back to the audience.? Cheers to Gilby for pointing it out. However, it seems like it doesn't matter to everyone else. Dilana was good as usual, but she didn't impress me as much as she had in the past. I think she was playing safe for once and that's not her.
Now, I have to say my interest in Dilana has dropped dramatically after last night's show. What the hell is up with her being so catty? MEOW! I thought she was more mature than that! And as far as for Dave talking trash that pisses me off even more. How can he sit up there in his throne and bitch at Dilana for raggin' her mates when he does the same damn thing? Its like they are expecting these people to be holier than thou when none of the guys up on stage are perfect themselves. If they were so damn perfect then they wouldn't be on a REALITY TV show looking for work.? Now its me thats being catty!
I think from now on it will be harder and harder to pick who goes home. My list:
1 Dilana
2 Storm
3 Toby
4 Lukas
5 Magni
6 Ryan
By the way- Thanks Cornell! Love you too! :-*

I agree that it's anybodies game now though. any of the last 6 could front the band IMO...and it's odd that the only contestants with Encore performances are the top 6...then again maybe it's not so odd ;)

I hated this weeks performances...the elimination songs were the best ones...especially Magni...he rocked on Hendrix.. : ok: and Ryan's original song.

Dilana has gotten as cocky as they come since she projected herself a favorite...she needs to chill

yes, the singers of those bands could definitely hold their own on this show.

Yeah, I'd go with Lukas, Dilana, with Ryan and Storm running neck and neck for 3rd.  Ryan's been on the "upswing" while Storm has had a couple of subpar weeks so if you twisted my arm, I'd probably choose Ryan as my #3 to.

I'm not sure, however, that I'd say Lukas takes the whole thing.  Dilana's "snarkiness" last week might have hurt her some, but she has been the most consistent, and the best, singer every week.  Lukas has been good to great, but has been more spotty than Dilana.  Right now, Dilana's my pick...we'll see if she does anything on stage to change that over the next few weeks.

On that....they said the finale is in 3 weeks?  Does that mean double eliminations for the next 2 weeks?  There's 6 left and, at least last year, wasn't the finale only 2 singers?  Or maybe they'll change that format....

I can't believe that Lukas was in the bottom 3, that was a great rework of that song and a wicked performance

I thought they were all pretty solid last night.. Fans picked the song they sing (beforehand, not during the show). For those who missed it, here's a recap:

Lukas - Nirvana Lithium - Did it well, soft then heavy. Used piano during the soft parts instead of guitar. Good job nonetheless, a little overdramatic though.

Magni - Live I alone - Very good, at times sounded just like him. Walked thru crowd & up to judges table while singing.

Ryan - Coldplay - Clocks - Good job, started off on piano, then jumped on top of it & starting belting out the song.Full of energy.

Storm - Evanescence Bring me to life - Pretty bad version of it. I thought she was by far the worst of them, not as bad as people in past weeks, but not as good as everyone else.

Toby - Billy Idol Rebel Yell - Did a good job, considering he got this cheesy song. Also, grabbed random girls from the crowd and brought them onstage to dance while he sang (about 5 of them).. Smart move, Tommy & Dave liked it.

Dilana - Meredith Brooks Mother Mother - Bad song, bad version.. Do the judges watch the same show as me?? I'll give her this, she was stuck with an annoying song, but make a good arragement out of it. She did it heavy pretty much throughout.. This is where I give Lukas credit, he would have made a decent cover out of a bad song like this.

Storm is definitely in the bottom, and the other two are tough to guess. I'd say Dilana and Ryan.

i think the bottom 4 are soooooo close right now. america's vote is tough to predict, as is SN's decision.

i think dilana has no chance at all of being in the bottom 3. and i think lukas is probably safe as well.

i'm guessing storm is a definite for the bottom 3, and i think she goes home.

my rankings are:

1. Dilana
2. lukas
3. toby
4. magni
5. ryan
6. storm

well since we're doing rankings

1. Lukas
2. Dilana
3. Toby
4. Ryan
5. Magni
6. Storm

now they are all really good, the talent of these 6 is refreshing after the weak start to the show, but i feel storm is not a good match for them so she's bottom, ryan toby and magni are all outside chances, really any of them could front the band

I just started watching and I have never voted in a reality show before. I love both Lukas and Dilana and Magni. It is really hard to choose between Lukas and Dilana but Dilana is kind of  a feamle Axl Rose So I like her best!

i was a little surprised to see ryan get sent home.

storm just isn't that good. her vocals are average, and her stage presence is getting annoying to me.

and dilana doesn't seem herself. i don't think her actions in the house were that big of a deal. but she seems to be the only one that can't let it go. and it's affecting her big time. she's lost her edge. and she needs to get it back quick with only a couple weeks remaining.

Woo-hoo I guessed the bottom 3 correctly !!

Yeah, I really thought Storm should have gone. She did bad with Evanescence, and with Helter Skelter, whereas Ryan seemed to do well with Coldplay & last night with Baby O'Reily.? In the end I agree Ryan was not their type to front their band, but Storm has Zero chance of winning also.

I do give Ryan a big thumbs down for being completely ungraceful in his final words, instead of thanking them for the oppurtunity he said they made the wrong move & he'll take them down on the record charts. That's for the American Idol rejects who don't make it thru the tryouts getting interviewed on the street cam BS.

Also, Lukas did really good with the band doing an original last night.

storm will go next week...it was crazy to see everybody but magni standing...specially since he ain't that good...

all three elimination performances sucked the big one yesterday.

lukas rocked in front of supernova!!!

and pasnow was right, ryan was a jackass in his parting words

Yeah, I went back and added about Lukas but you had already posted.. I think there's only 1 more week left.

And they all had terrible song choices last night.

finale is sept 13th so one more week of elimination then the final...the INXS show last year had 3 finalists so maybe 2 will go next week

I'd guess magni and storm ... if just one goes then it'll be storm

Seriously these songs are horrible.

Magni sounds great on SCOM. Maybe he should win.

All three of those performances were awful this week....damn.   Still, Ryan's past performances and his original should have saved him, and Storm should be gone.  I was actually hoping Ryan would win it...I think that the Supernova orginals are just God-awful, and that Ryan might have been able to bring some needed intensity to the tracks.

But so it goes.  And true, Ryan was a bit of a jerk with what he said at the end, but so was Tommy and the band.  They've *never* been that cold when kicking someone off...

At this point, I don't see myself listening to the Supernova songs, let alone buying the record...

Do u know why Ryan Star sucked?

One he possessed the worst traits of guys like Scott Stapp,Rob Thomas and he looked eerily similiar to Joey Fatone of Nsync.

On top of that, he was  a poser.

I remember reading "The Dirt" *Motley Crue Story* and Doc McGhee said how Motley Crue did drugs, and beat people up and caused mayhem cause thats who they were, even if they werent rock stars they probably still would've been doing shit like that.

bands like Poison etc did that kind of stuff cause they thought thats what a rockstar should do.

Ryan was as choreographed as a boy band.

Tommy says "Id love to see someone smash a guitar"

3 minutes later, Ryan slings his  guitar across the stage.......... LAME!

Its like Ryan would choreograph his entire performance, I can see him sitting down and saying "This time I will jump off the stage. then I run on top of a speaker, then I will do this and that.

Great frontmen do shit naturally......... its like the music and energy make them do stuff.

Ryan seemed to be doing moves he thought a rock star should do.

Well said. Very true too.

I thought last night sucked though. Lukas' schtick is getting old. He could have ran away with the competition by pulling off "Livin on a Prayer". He's singing in front of 300 girls, how can that song not go over well. Instead he dropped the ball & is back in the pack. Dilana did bad and cannot write a song with any imagination, she might go tonight. Gilby realized she is useless songwriting-wise.

Is it me or has Toby picked it up the last few weeks. I don't think he's this band's "type" but I'm thinking Tommy, Gilby & Jason are realizing this band will do 1 (bad)album, 1 promotional tour, & call it quits. By March this band is done, so they're just looking for a fan favorite to sell some tickets before the album comes out & fails miserably.

Last night I thought Toby and Storm stole the show.   They were the highlights.  I thought Lukas and Dilana were the lowlights...which is a pretty big turn around from how things have been going.

If Dilana's injury is serious, and she's in the bottom 3 tonight....I'd expect the band to "do the right thing" and send her home...because if she can't perform for the finale, she shouldn't be in the mix.

alot of the energy from storm's first song came from Navarro and she was able to ride it out...her song was ok but wayy too girly for this band.

Lukas' BJ rendition was kinda blah but what can you do? it's not like Lukas to jsut doa song how it's written he changes things up and i doubt he is much of a bonjovi fan...his orig was awesome IMO  ;)

What happened to Dilana?

She pulled a calf muscle in her leg during warmups that day. I think that'll come back to haunt her & Pilferk might be right. She may go, they may fear she gets too into the song & acrobatics. That & her bad songwriting. What if they open up in Vegas New Years Eve & she does another high-leg kick & pulls a hammy?? :nervous: Not good.?

They actually said "tore a calf muscle" last night.  Hopefully they MEANT pull...people use the term that way sometimes...but if she really tore it, it could put her on the shelf, depending on the severity of the tear, for weeks.  That would not be a good thing.

And his rendition of a bad BJ song just proves that bad songs stripped down just sound even worse.  I respect that he likes changing things up but.....you have to have the ability to know when NOT to change it up in a specific way.  His performance, for me, was just bad last night.  Dilana's was worse, IMHO, but Lukas wasn't much better.

He should have done it 50/50. I totally thought that was what he was doing.. 1st half, solo depressing, blah, then kick in the drums & guitar, lights go up, toss the guitar and grab the mic & kick out the jams.. Glam style!

You can find some of her earlier work online (with The Ballz).  It's definitely not a put on, but she's very theatrical...which is where I'll bet your feeling comes from.

i don't agree with you, but her act has gotten old really fast. basically, what she lacks in singing ability, she tries to make up in goofiness and energy. and it just doesn't work anymore.

but i liked her original song, and that has to count for alot. so i would keep her around.

toby is awesome. he's been one of my favorites all along. others have been better for most of the season, but i think in recent weeks he's moved into the top 3, and after last night, he may be #1. i think he'd be a great fit for the band. ?

I think next week will make or break for ALL of them. I think they all have a chance, myb Magni & Storm being the long shots. But a great performance then could win it.

Right now, my gut feeling is Lukas. I'm gonna tell you why. He's got the rock n Roll edge to him. And I think they want that. Toby is on a roll, no doubt. But it all seems to be after Billy Idol's 'Rebel Yell' when he got the crowd singing "She wants mo' mo' mo'!!" And I think that's what they'd be left with, that Billy Idol singing guy.. Don't get me wrong, right now, as for who should win, I'd have to give it to Toby. But this isn't a search for who's doing the best, or most improved, it's for who will be the best singer for a band with Tommy Lee, Gilby Clarke, and Jason Newstead.

Just my guess. EDIT: HAHA, I just noticed my post is EXACTLY the opposite of Blacktiger & Neemo. :P

BTW - has anyone else noticed they've really been cutting out alot of Jason's comments lately? I've heard him twice in the last 2 weeks.

Lukas made that song suck, if u ever heard Bon Jovi play it acoustically u would know its amazing.  Its not Jon's fault Lukas cant hit the right notes.

I think Toby is the best right now. His song is fuckin awesome!

Magni however, his voice seems to fit Supernova the best.

DiLana lost it for me, I use to think she was awesome but her attitude and performances when down the drain. She has really dropped the ball and choked in my opinion.

LOL...somehow, when I hit the "post" button, I knew D would show up to defend Bon Jovi.

Look, Jon, Ritchie, and the band do a good job of "pepping up" their music.  And I HAVE heard them play this particular song acoustically (but not "stripped down").  But, IMHO, Bon Jovi's MUSIC (the actual music, not their performances or lyrics) has never been that great.  It's pretty simple stuff, but layerd up and "pepped up" to make it sonically interesting. There's just no complexity or depth to it.  But you strip down a "bad" song, like "Living on a Prayer",a song that, at it's core, is very very simple and sort of boring....and you get what we got from Lukas.  And I think THAT'S what hurt the performance.  Not the way he sang the lyrics...but the music  actually being played.

On Storm's elimination last night...I wasn't real surprised.  Despite having the best (or 2nd best, maybe) "performance night" and despite having, IMHO, the best elimination night, (she fucking made Jason cry, for gods sake) as soon as I saw the 3 in the bottom, I knew who was going home.  Lukas and Dilana have just built up too much "equity" with the band to be shown the door.  Hell, the only case I could make to keep her was that Dilana was hurt and who wants a gimp performing on the finale...because Lukas and Dilana have built up the same "equity" with the viewers, I think, too.

i didn't quite catch what storm said at the end...i thought it was "That's for Steve (Irwin)" and she was crying too. also cool of magni to dedicate to him being a fellow countryman...Storm's dedication was....out of place i felt, but nice gesture none the less.

About Dilana and Lukas' "equity"....I totally agree 100%...now she just has to fucking get over her fucking fuck-up, I'm pretty sure this will be her last chance to do so. but i knew storm was gone after they picked Magni for the Supernova Performance.

I'm Icelandic and I watch the show, however I don't vote. The population of Iceland is about 300.000 people, I would say that probably 50.000 - 80.000 people bother to watch the show and some of them are most likely like myself and don't vote. So let's say that around 50.000 vote and most of them have to wake up early, do you really think that all those 50.000 people stay up all night like idiots just to get Magni through... NOT A CHANCE!!!

ps. I want Toby to win and Magni to play with the houseband... I think Lucas is the worst of the lot and Dilana is annoying.

Lukas' BJ rendition was kinda blah but what can you do? it's not like Lukas to jsut doa song how it's written he changes things up and i doubt he is much of a bonjovi fan...his orig was awesome IMO? ;)

See, I really, really disliked Lukas's original. I liked the premise of the song, and I liked seeing the emotion it brought out, but I thought the execution was lousy.? I liked Toby's, Storms, and Magni's much better.?

And his rendition of a bad BJ song just proves that bad songs stripped down just sound even worse.? I respect that he likes changing things up but.....you have to have the ability to know when NOT to change it up in a specific way.? His performance, for me, was just bad last night.? Dilana's was worse, IMHO, but Lukas wasn't much better.

A bad Bon Jovi song?
Lukas made that song suck, if u ever heard Bon Jovi play it acoustically u would know its amazing.? Its not Jon's fault Lukas cant hit the right notes.

yes......stripped down it sounds awful. ::)

U being sarcastic?

that kicks fuckin ass!

Bon Jovi are one of the best acoustic bands around.  I think people who say otherwise are just being haters.   Listen to Prayer 94 on Crossroads or any time BJ play it live.  It kicks ass.

Lukas just cant fuckin sing worth a shit. which is why it sucked.

bon jovi own, they finished their have a nice day tour selling out the giants stadium, 50 000 people.  even GNR wont do that.  now dont get me wrong im not bashing GNR they my fav band but numbers dont lie people just cuz u dont like a band doesnt mean u gotta go saying their stuff is boring, cuz everyone thinks differently.  and i do think lukas' version of prayer kinda sucked.  my fav prayer from bon jovi is Prayer 94 on the Cross Road cd, thats the best imo.  anyway i think its between Lukas and Toby, dilana is crap at songwriting and magni is bald.

Yup. The two most marketable and artistically viable candidates.

What killed poor Dilana (I can't stand her nowadays) is that she had an easy ride, thought she had the thing wrapped up, ended up falling flat on her face, and now tries too hard.

And Magni, well, like you said, he's bald... :hihi:

First off, I'm not saying anything about Bon Jovi as a band.? Their music is not my cup of tea, largely for the reasons I've cited previously (it's mostly very "simple" stuff with lots of layering to make it more than what it is, at the core).  But I don't "hate" them.  I don't anything them, really.

Second, I'd like to point out that you probably think they're "haters" simply because you're a fan.? I don't "hate" Bon Jovi.? I just don't think they are particularly good song (as in music...not lyrics...Jon's lyrics are where they shine) writers.  Especially when looking at their older stuff.

Stripped down to one guitar, or one piano, or one anything.....you're left with a very simple melody that's not particularly memorable, complex, or...well....very good, IMHO.

I actually think Lukas hit pretty much every note just fine....but with the tempo change, you did lose some of the "urgency" of the original, I'll give you that.

is it safe to say that he was "OH...OH half way there" :hihi: :peace:

I'm Icelandic and I watch the show, however I don't vote. The population of Iceland is about 300.000 people, I would say that probably 50.000 - 80.000 people bother to watch the show and some of them are most likely like myself and don't vote. So let's say that around 50.000 vote and most of them have to wake up early, do you really think that all those 50.000 people stay up all night like idiots just to get Magni through... NOT A CHANCE!!!

:peace: it's cool, I joined a supernovaforum for downloads and after magni made bottom-3, 2 weeks in a row, there were petitions there to keep him around by voting like mad for him....kinda funny that since then he's missed the bottom 3 with sub-par performances :peace:

Last Night - I thought all the performances were good, but no one was great. All about equal, except I think Dilana put herself back in the running. I felt they all did a terrible job with song selection for the covers.

Lukas - I think he could have walked away with this had he chosen something like STP's "Sex Type Thing" or 'Interstate Love Song' but whatever, he was smart to change up the original, he's the only one who showed different sides of him. Nice "Bono chords" when playing the guitar.

Dilana - While she wasn't great last night, she made up for all the bad she did in previous weeks. Not sure she can pull it out because of her bad songwriting skills, but we'll see.

Toby - I think Toby has ran his course. Fun, Energetic cover band singer, great I'll see you when I'm down the Jersey Shore next summer, not fronting Tommy Lee's band. How many times can you hear "ohhh oh ohh ohh ohhhhhhh!!" before it gets old.

Magni - Talented, but too plain, just doesn't stand out to these guys. Going into commercial I felt all the previous performances were pretty tame, & he had a chance to steal it.. Coming back I hear he's going to play Deep Purple's "Hush" ??? Right out..

I still say Lukas, and yeah D, he probably was listening to Boy Bands 8 years ago, but these people are all on a reality TV show looking to sing for a band, so all credibility for me has gone right out the window for all of 'em. : ok:

Lukas is 29 he moved out on his own @ 16 and he's been writing songs since. around 1997 he started his first Band "Cleavage" and they finally got a record contract around 2000 with EMI Canada...he then left them and formed his latest band is Rise Electric which is where headspin comes from. D just hates him cuz he doesn't like BonJovi :hihi:

after last night it looks like they are not fond of Magni and like pasnow said ar enow over Toby...DIlana and Lukas look to be the favorites based on last nights comments. Dilana was the overall best last night IMO but only cuz i feel she did a better job on her cover than lukas did on his...Her orig...while catchy...isn't nearly as good as Lukas...and her lyrics suck balls IMO

I agree, I think Dilana was just a tiny bit better than Lukas last night, based entirely on her cover being better..and I think they are the top 2 right now.

DiLana should win.  She is the only one who doesn't annoy me.

U gotta remember, this is edited TV so they pieced a bunch of clips together that made her look like a bitch. It happens, its TV.

She spoke the truth and I dig that about her. Everything she said was true so who cares?

I agree about Tobey being a good cover band singer, I loved his original the first time, but now its annoying as hell. Magni I agree is plain.

Lukas just to me doesn't mesh well with the guys.

He looks like an Emo Singer and Supernova is a collection of 80's early 90's rock.

To me it would seem like Supernova were jumpin on the EMO Craze by pickin Lukas.

DiLana has a much better voice, much better stage presence and she seems more REAL to me.

So, I have to admit, I got hooked on Rock Star Supernova. Despite all my misgivings about it, I got sucked in. I held out and waited until the final episode to see the final outcome.
I have some mixed feelings about it.
*spoilers here*

I kind of wish Lukas hadn't won. Because I think he is the best. Because he can do so much better, one thing that struck me tonight was how much Supernova fucking suck. Who the fuck do they think they are? That if they throw together a band at the last minute, to make for some entertaining reality TV, write shit songs about absoluetly nothing, "it's all love' and 'be yourself' oh my fucking god.... and who the fuck does gilby think he is exactly? Dude, you were Sub in and never even recorded on any original GNR music. Really misleading calling him a 'former member' of GNR. What a fucking joke. but I guess the 'aspiring rockers' all signed up for this. This is what they wanted. Well.... congratulations lukas.......
I really think Lukas is amazing. That's why this is so depressing. Although his original is good, so if they're smart, he can write the songs and he can use the names of Tommy Lee & company to get his music out there, they can be his backing band.
maybe. still, what a waste.
Lukas and Dilana and Storm were my favorites.? ?

Title: Re: Supernova, rock star is on now

dilana sucked balls at songwriting and face it, no female or bald guy was gonna be the lead singer of their band.  dilana wrote really crappy lyrics and her image for the whole show was entirely fake, just check out what she looked like before going on rockstar.  (speakin about that i sure do hope those tattoos she got arent permanent, otherwise bad luck for her haha).  i think Lukas is not emo dresser but more of a hard rock look and better image for the band, i like lukas' hard rock sound but i dont like when he does that 2002 like axl scream where his voice doesnt sound raw at all.  overall im happy with the results as i think lukas will best suit the band, and personally i feel that gilby and the boys (i hate to say supernova cuz they ripped that name straight up and hope they get their asses sued off) just picked the singer they thought would best suit them.  all of the singers were very talented performers and any one of them can lead a band, its just their preference and they picked Lukas.  personally i thought Magni had the strongest voice out of all of them but like i said, hes bald.  tobys song wasnt that bad but damn it got annoying fast.

ALSO i dont agree with supernova being 80s 90s collection of rock, so far from what ive heard it realy isnt that great and i think this whole thing was just a big sellout to get their names in the paper along with some cash.  Lukas has been in the industry for 15 years yes, but he hasnt been a tool like tommy for nearly as long.  Headspin is a great song, i think lukas is a great performer but i believe ultimatley why he wasnt famous before is because he didnt bow down to the record companies like most famous people do (thats just my feelings anyway)

what if gilby got a call from axl in the middle of the last show while they were picking the frontman?  Gilby would be like "...uh guys i gotta go something important came up,    oh yeah im quitting the band"  lol

as for jason newstead well i guess hes kinda cool for nothing being such a tool like metallica.  i think metallica and guns should tour together to keep a name for themselves, but then again i think metallica is a whole different genre of music.  i think i went over tommy hes just a big sellout and gilby... well how can you hate gilby hes the greatest and hes gonna keep doing his thing + rockstar so i still think hes a really cool dude.

anyways my endless rant is over, ryan and toby got a free car they got nothin to complain about.  and LOTS of media exposure

After all was said and done I think Toby was by far the best. he had the best voice, best original song, most natural performer who seemed to captivate and entertain the crowd the best, and he genuinely seemed like the nicest one of the bunch. Having said all that i think the right guy won. I always thought Lukas would win and I think he was the right choice for this band. Thank god Dilana didn't win. i think she' sucks and she's nothing more than a Melissa Ethridge sound - a - Like in goth clothing. Magni was exactly what Gilby said. great with the band but not a frontman. At least not for Supernova. ?Dilana seems to get the best deal of it all though. She gets to record her own album and tour the world in suport of Supernova. I won't be buying her album though. If Toby puts out an album I might buy that.

All in all this season kicked ass on the INXS season : ok:

I expected a "surprise" and thought it might be Magni. I think Dilana killed her chances with her attacks against some others, and then played all sweet and nice. I am NOT excited about Lukas and think he is quite limited vocally. Can you imagine him for 2 hours? My wife, who was walking through the room when they were doing the last song, commented that he has weak voice, and she knows nothing about rock. So, I was going to see them when they come to town in Feb., but now I think I will pass.

You've gotta be kidding!

While I admit Contraband could've been better, Lukas can't sing to save his life and he's a try hard little poser.

I guess I should thank Supernova for picking a dodgy singer to save me spending my money on them. Because I definitely won't be buying their album or going to see them live with Lukas fronting the band.

Couldn't agree with you more, he does not have a strong rock voice at all. Jason Newstead commented about him constricting his voice and I've heard him singing in that style in nearly every performance of his.

Needless to say, if he's fronting the band, I'm not interested in them anymore.

Hm... let's see... Having Gilby Clarke agreeing to actually help produce a record, and Dave Navarro agree to play on it, sounds a lot better than say... um... recording something in your basement, and then posting the lame recording on the internet and pretend to be a rock star for a message board.

Lukas sucks, My songwriting skills are a hundred times better, he can't write music like I can, he can't write lyrics like I can and he sure as fuck cant play the guitar like I can.

Dave navarro is a washed up has been. his CD got 1 and a half stars on Rolling Stone, sells not even 100,000 copies.

Supernova's songs are lame, Motley Crue are Tommy's priority, Jason Newsted admitted he is only doing the show to promote Voivod and Gilby is well Gilby Clarke.

So I've never claimed to be a "RockStar" I can't help if people like my basement recordings, seeing as I don't even have a basement.

DiLana should seperate herself immediately from the show

Ask Bo Bice what a reality show can do for your career.

Also Tied-Up, I'd rather be an internet musician with people who appreciate my "LAME" music, then have to go on a reality TV show and have any shot of a career ruined.

Reality TV stars except for Kelly Clarkson have no credibility, they do a few episodes on a tv show and then they are tainted.

Tied Up u dont post on here for a year and then u come and insult me for speakin the truth.

Its like u are obsessed with me so Obviously I am doing something right. U don't post on here for a year and your last two posts are about ME, your Signature is about ME and we use to be friends....

Actually, I stopped coming here because I was bored with watching you masterbate all over yourself about bon jovi.? In case you didn't notice, the signature is an insult to bon jovi more than it's a dig on you -- the dig on you is a bonus.

I don't think you're speaking the truth, actually... see, television sells music.? Bo Bice actually has a RECORDING career, which is something he did not have before he appeared on American Idol.? The same is true for many other past American Idol contestants.? Television sells music, more so than any other medium.? It's only career suicide to appear on television via a reality show if you don't have the chops to make it in the first place.

And Lukas... has a career now too... He was working at Hooters before he went on the show, now he will be touring with a band.? Gee... I'm not a musician so I really don't know... but somehow... I think that being able to tour with a band, no matter how much they sucked... would be better than frying chicken wings at Hooters.?

And see, the big difference between Lukas and YOU is that Lukas actually had the GUTS to do something other than post his music on the internet.? It takes a lot of guts to go in front of a television camera and sing before millions like that.? When you've got the guts to actually do more with your music than jack off in your basement (or garage or where ever you do it), then you can diss someone else for having the balls to do something positive for their career.? Making it in the music business is hard, ANYONE who has ever made it can tell you that.? Working it on a reality show may not be the same as being discovered at the Roxy in Hollywood... but at least it's something -- and it offers a built in fanbase.

Where Lukas goes after supernova washes up (and I have no doubt that they will), is up to Lukas, at least now he has his foot in the door.

The same is true for Dilana.? She was given an opportunity to do something with her music.? I mean, being able to record with Gilby Clarke and Dave Navarro may not be the top rung on the ladder, but it's something.? It's a step in the right direction.? It's better than recording at home, by yourself, for yourself.? It's an opportunity to build a career in music, and she has a built in fanbase.  She has been given exposure, people (including myself) who may have never heard of her before, now are fans of her abilities.

As far as Dave Navarro, he's still considered a guitar great by many people.? Your judging him based on commercial sales, and that's not really a true indicator of an artist's ability.? At least he's not hiding his music and pretending to be something he's not on a message board.

At least going on a reality show gives you the opportunity to expose yourself.? It shows that you actually believe in your music enough to try to make it work, rather than lamenting about it online.

id have to agree lukas has a nice hard rock sound but thats only when he constricts his voice, and sometimes he cant do that.  all the supernova songs ive heard suck dong and to D and that other guy tied up.  im pretty sure lukas knew what he was doing w hen he tried out for rockstar supernova.  he would sell his freedom as a musician for fame and fortune.  not a bad trade off if you ask me, im sure those american idol lamers are happy right now.

Its not just music.

Check out the America's Next Top Model Show. Those people arent looked at on the same level as Real Supermodels.

My favorite TV show The Ultimate Fighter...... hard core fans and fighters consider these people B level fighters cause they were on a reality TV show.?

So its just not music, its every where. If u are on reality TV whether it be music, boxing, fighting, modeling etc etc, No one takes these people seriously.

I didn't make the rules, its just the way it is.

Have u ever watched Makin the Band with P Diddy? Does anyone even remotely take those people seriously?

Lukas HAD a career.

Its a reality TV Career and its a built in fanbase but its not a true fanbase, those people are fickle. American Idols get millions and millions of votes but when it comes time to buy the records where are all those fans?

If your point was true, those artists would have 20 year careers and they dont.

Bo Bice didn't have a record deal before Idol but what did American Idol do for his career? He made one record which absolutely flopped and his career is over.

Had he not been on American Idol he could've potentially still got a record deal but it would've been more authentic and he would've gained TRUE Fans, not just reality TV fans who forget about u as soon as the next season starts.

Sure its a gimmicky way to get a record deal but Id rather get one the old fashioned way or not at all.

I don't want a record deal because Reality TV made me some product to sell to people.

Lukas sold out all credibility for 15 minutes of fame.

After years of doing it the right way, he sold out and took the easy way and his career will be finished in less than a year.

I am in no way dissing Lukas.? Its just his original song Head Spin is 100 times better than all Supernova songs combined.

DiLana needs to get away from Gilby Clarke cause Gilby has ZERO credibility in the music industry. Dave had credibility but he lost it somewhere between Christina Aguilera and reality TV shows.

Kelly Clarkson survived cause she got as far away from American Idol as humanly possible.

They had American Idol auditions 10 minutes away but Id never try out.

They are gonna have Rockstar 3 tryouts in Atlanta Im sure, but I'd never try out.

not that I dont think I am good enough its just Id rather be an Indy musician with 20 fans then be on a lame ass reality TV show with a bunch of has beens tryin to make a quick buck.

If u go on reality TV, your career is over.

How many people besides Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood have any kind of career in music? NONE!

How many people from last season's rock star have a career? NONE!

music is about credibility and once u lose it, u are done.

Tommy Lee made a great solo CD last year but guess what? No one cared cause he has no credibility.? thats just the way it is.

The Panic Channel arent burning up the charts either..... why? cause Dave has no credibility left.

D - i disagree. times are changing. and i understand what you're saying about selling out and maintaining street cred. but it's tough to make it. and reality TV is one method.

so i don't think reality TV NECESSARILY kill all your cred. it is possible to do reality TV and be taken seriously.

and you actually mentioned two major examples to back it up. kelly clarkson and carrie underwood. that's 2 of the first 4 AI winners and they are extremely successful and VERY respected musicians.

so i really don't know how you can make your argument.

another example.....i think a bunch of people have major respect for Storm Large, and would love to see her perform or hear some music from her. she's a household name with lots of cred. yet none of us would have heard of her without the show.

and the traditional way doesn't always work out for people. how much cred is there is signing a deal with a record label and becoming a slave to them, and having them control and change your music?

Title: Re: Supernova, rock star is on now

What if Storm had won though? Thats my point.

She wins, she does 1 album with Supernova, one tour, Tommy decides to quit and it would be very hard to rebound from that.

DiLana still has a career as long as she gets away from Gilby and Dave.

Storm has a career as long as she stays away from Gilby and Dave.'

Lukas however is screwed.? ?Supernova will make one record, it will sell about 250,000 copies, Tommy will go back to Motley, Jason will futher along Voivod and then Lukas is left out in the cold.? I can't see him having any kind of respectable career after this cause he will always be Lukas, Singer of the failed reality TV band Supernova.

How about Marty from last season? He hasnt had a career.

U would think storm and DiLana would have a better chance but u never know.

i have to disagree to D...sorry but Lukas has been a struggleing musician for years always trying things and never being quite able to make it...I admit i;'ve never been a fan ?of his before the show but I'm sold for life on this guy. I've read his biographies and shit that ive seen and managed to find both his albums...i mean it's not the greatest stuff but it's pretty damn good for indy releases, like i said earlier he did have a record contract up here in canada for winning a contest for the best unsigned band in canada, but after one album he was never able to get over. he also did the theme song for BeyBlade...if i woulda been in his shoes for the oportunity i woulda jumped at it too, I'm really looking forward to the release of this album.

another thing...up here we have a contest on the local radio station who give unsigned bands the chance to win a contract, a couple winners have done well...you may have heard of them i dunno how popular they are south of the border but their name is Finger11, but basically it was fans call t he station and vote for them and that particular year they won.

back to lukas, he's surrounded by solid veteran musicians, if he has his way he'll be able to rework a coupel tunes to his likeing and the album might be a pleasant surprise...we'll have to wait and see :peace:

i think gilby is in supernova solidly for now, here's an exerpt from his recent htgth interview

Quote
C: When are you gonna release another solo album?

G: (Laughs) Well, not for a while. I was planning on doing it this year. When I got back from the MC5 tour, my job was to write a new solo record. But now that Supernova is happening, those songs that I was working on, I'm gonna be giving them to Supernova. So, if they won't make it, it'll be the same thing with GN'R, I'll make one next year. Let's just see how Supernova goes. I mean, one thing about making solo records is, it never goes away. There was a few years ago, I actually said I'm not doing it anymore, I'm done. And I really did quit. And I just kinda felt that I was cheating myself. It's a really good form of expression for me and I should keep doing it.

C: So are you writing new music now?

G: Yes, that's what I've been doing. I have a lot of really cool new songs that I'm really happy about. And like I said they're gonna go to Supernova, if we don't dig them they'll go to a new solo record.

Where did those years of doing it the 'right way' get him?? I'll tell you where they got him, they got him frying chicken wings at Hooters!? Wow!? Great career!? His 15 minutes of fame bought him a lot more than those years ever afforded him.? He now has the opportunity to record an album and front a band on a tour.? Tell me, where was he booked before he took the stage on rockstar?? How many record contract offers was he considering?

Supernova -- or whatever they decide to call themselves, since they aren't allowed to use the name supernova.? Interestingly enough, the name belongs to another California based band that's been around for 17 years.? Haven't heard of them?? Oh... that's probably because they're UNSIGNED!? -- probably won't last more than the 1 album and tour.? But that's 1 album and 1 tour more than Lukas was about to work on a few months ago.? As my previous point about the band Supernova suggests, it's not that easy to break into the music business and make a name for yourself.? Lukas now has his foot in the door, what he chooses to do with his career after this album and tour is over -- is up to him, but he at least will have more opportunities available to him than he would have had if he had never done rockstar.

Quote
How many people besides Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood have any kind of career in music? NONE!

Do you actually read the stuff you write??

Again, you're counting commerical success as a career, so ok... let's talk commercial success.?

Bo Bice's first single debuted at #2 on the billboard singles chart.? hmmm... not bad for someone with no career in music.? His debut album debuted on the album charts at #4.? again... not too shabby.? Especially for someone who had no contract BEFORE he did the reality show... and while we don't know for sure if he wouldn't have been discovered in some other way, I'm betting that he was trying to build a career on his own before he auditioned for American Idol.

Clay Aiken's debut single debuted at #1, and has been certified platinum, and was the best selling single of 2003.? Hey!? that's pretty darned good for someone who has no career in music... no credibility.? His debut album went triple platinum.? Not bad in this day and age of album piracy and free music downloads.

Ruben Studdard's debut album went platinum.?

Fantasia's debut album went platinum.

Chris Daughtry has a recording contract and will be releasing his solo album this year.? If the 'scandal' that surrounded his leaving the show is any indication of his fanbase, I would say that he has a very successful career ahead of him.

These are but a few examples.? However, I should mention that since both Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson have been so enormously successful, your argument holds no water.? Someone CAN and HAS appeared on reality television and has made a successful career for themselves.?

It isn't career suicide to appear on reality television.? Unless actually HAVING a contract and a career in their chosen field is considered career suicide... but you'd have a real hard time convincing me of that.

Title: Re: Supernova, rock star is on now
Post by: D on September 15, 2006, 09:39:54 PM
Tied Up u are missing the point.

Bo Bice's CD stiffed, I think it barely even went Gold. Clay Aiken is a joke, Fantasia's album didn't sell well. Remember she got probably over 20 million votes on Idol, so selling 1 million albums is very underwhelming.

SO let me ask u a question.

If theiralbums didn't sell well WITH all the American Idol faithful, how the hell are they gonna sell when those people dont care about that batch of American Idols and are onto the next batch?

I like Lukas but I want more for the guy. What's he gonna do once Supernova make one album and then quit?? Where will he go? Im sayin he would've had a better career had he lost on Supernova instead of winning.

All his hard work will be for nothing and he will be back workin at Hooters.

Tommy Lee isnt gonna stick with this group. Jason Newsted isnt gonna stick with this group.

So by saying he committed career suicide, basically Im sayin any shot at a credible solo career is over.? Cause once u front a band like Supernova, U cant go back to being a solo guy.

I think the reason none of these people made it is cause they basically cant write songs.? They are COVER musicians and Ive always preached on here. Cover Musicians are great at clubs, parties and karaoke bars, but until u can write your own great songs, U are useless and nothing to record labels.

how else can u explain DiLana not being a major star?? U watch the show and u see why, she cant write.

These people are great lounge singers, great Cover band singers.? Toby's song was good but wore on your nerves quick.

Lukas' Headspin was pretty good but Id like to hear 12 to 20 songs to see how prolilfic and diverse he is.

For your examples.

out of all these though, who are credible?

Here is an example and I hate to say this but it is the truth.

If Jon Bon Jovi emailed me and told me he loved my stuff and wanted to produce me. Id say NO.

Hard to believe? not really cause even though I love Bon Jovi and they are as famous as it gets, for some reason their "Cred" isnt that great. I know if I came out with a CD and Jon Bon Jovi was the producer, I would have no Cred and little chance at a career.

One album isnt a career. 3 years isnt a career.

These people are products of Reality TV and they can ride that for an album maybe 2 if they are really good. But 95 percent of these people end up with nothing.

Title: Re: Supernova, rock star is on now

No, D, you're missing the point.? See... this is what they wanted for themselves.? It's not about what YOU want for them, it's about what they want -- they made the choices to put them where they are... they apparently DON'T consider it career suicide to have their talents exposed to the rest of the world.?

Selling 1 million albums is not underwhelming in this day and age of music downloads.? These days, people download music, they don't go buy music anymore.? Going platinum now is a lot harder than it was back before the days of music downloads.?

Quote
So by saying he committed career suicide, basically Im sayin any shot at a credible solo career is over.? Cause once u front a band like Supernova, U cant go back to being a solo guy.

Who says?? He's a young guy, this is just the tip of the ice burg for him, you don't know what the future holds for Lukas.? Where his future goes from here is all up to him.? ? If he performs well on tour, and performs well on the album, there will be enough interest in him to allow him to carve a solo career for himself.

My whole point is that sometimes you have to be willing to make sacrifices for the possibility of future gain.? That means that sometimes you have to do things that are unconventional to get the exposure your talent needs to become a success.? Appearing on a reality show doesn't make you a sell out, it means that you've got the courage to actually make your career work for you rather than sitting around waiting for something to happen to you.? It will never happen if you aren't willing to take some chances.?

How many copies does everyone on here predict Supernova will sell

I say 400,000 tops.

Do u honestly believe anyone is gonna take this band seriously?

Lukas will make minimum money and his career will be over.? Thats how these shows go.? Ever heard of Justin Guarini?

Chris Daughtry is gonna fuckin sing for Fuel.......... Fuel's career was over after their last record flopped, so he is gonna have as much cred as the fake asses who front Journey and Skid Row.

Yeah u can call it a career and if thats what they want, if there goal is to be a product and record an album of songs already written with little input..... all power to them but I could never do it. I guess Ill sit in my basement and dream cause to me and to quote the great movie "Rock Star"

I'd rather fail as me than succeed as someone elses product.

Um... no, Chris Daughtry turned down Fuel's offer.  Or didn't you hear about that?

You can try to sugar coat it with as many lofty ideals as you want.  Lukas is ultimately the product of his own choices.  He just chose to do something rather than to wait around for something to happen for him.  It's called taking charge of your own destiny.

Thats all Im saying. I think DiLana and Storm will have a much better career than Lukas.. they got on the show, got their exposure and left before they had to play with supernova.

Im glad the Daughtry dude turned that down. NOW that would've been career suicide.

I think going in the band knew it was a one-shot deal. 1 album, 1 tour, that's it. I do think the song "It's all love" that they played is pretty good (kudos to Gilby), and I think Lukas' song "Headspin" could be released as a single. Overall, I think based on the viewers of the show & their curiousity, they may sell close to a million records, but most of that is due to people just curious to hear how it came out, not how great a band they are.

Again, it's all a novelty act, and even though they may get 2 or 3 hits off this record, the band will say "Thanks, it's been fun" then we'll never hear of this Lukas guy again. Much like winners of Survivor, The Apprentice etc... Face it, they're not going to be the new Audioslave or anything..

Dilana, well it seems Gilby is willing to write songs for her, and based on that, she might, might put out an album that will be moderately successful, maybe 400,000 copies, with a mini-hit or two. Kinda like a rocker-chick Pink type album.. Nothing credible.

Storm we'll never hear from again.. Or anyone else from that show, aside from Navarro & Brooke Burke

if SN makes a great hard rock album, it will sell millions.

that's the bottom line. kelly clarkson has sold millions cause her album is incredible. but everyone predicted it wouldn't sell very much.

bo bice's music sucks and was obviously influenced by the corporate record label. it sounds cheesy. that's why it didn't sell. not because he was on AI.

they have studio streaming of the 2 songs Lukas performed after winning

"It's all Love" and "Be Yourself and 5 Other Cliche's" I'm really impressed with the sound of the music gilby and jason both stand out nicely rather than Tommy drowning out everything like he did on the show, and Lukas just sounds amazing...love his voice

album is out nov 21

Storm we'll never hear from again.. Or anyone else from that show, aside from Navarro & Brooke Burke

Actually, I'll hear from Storm again, seeing as I live about a half an hour from Portland which is where she is located.  She's a pretty big deal here.  From what I hear, she's going to be recording.

How many copies does everyone on here predict Supernova will sell

I'd rather fail as me than succeed as someone elses product.

D, you are so lost on 'hit singles/albums' - and that's sad.  Commercial success is not the measure of a good song.  There are many bands/artists that enjoy/have enjoyed great commercial success -- does that make them great songwriters, or even great artists?  No... it just means that they had the benefit of good marketing.  The good stuff... doesn't always rise to the top, D.

I'm going to use the example of visual artistry here, because, well, I'm a visual artist.  Vincent Van Gogh sold ONE, yes ONE painting during his lifetime, for an amount that would amount to about 400 francs now.  Not so amazing.  Especially considering that NOW... his art sells for record breaking amounts.  Millions and millions of dollars.

However, during his lifetime, he didn't have any 'hits.'  He wasn't selling his paintings... if he were alive today, experiencing the same kind of 'success' selling his paintings as he did during his own lifetime, he would hardly be considered successful.

My point is, COMMERCIAL success is not a true measure of the artist.  We can't accurately judge Dilana's writing ability based on a few edited clips from a television show.  We can't say that Lukas will or will not have a career after a short-lived run with the Tommy Lee project.  We don't know what these artists are capable of when they've had additional opportunities presented to them.

Dilana should accept any help that she can get along the way.  Maybe Gilby isn't the greatest offer out there, but it's something more than she was offered a few months ago when she was a struggling musician trying to get a break.  Everyone's got to start somewhere.  Just because these people (Gilby and Dave) don't have the kind of success that you consider to be substantial doesn't make them less of an artist.  I mean... if commercial success or ability to sell records or write music that sells is a measure of an artist...where does that leave you, dude?

Lukas may be a 'product' of the Tommy Lee project... but you know what, look what he gets from it:  a chance to record on an album and a chance to be on tour, HEADLINING the venues where he'll be appearing.  That's a pretty amazing trip from working at Hooters a few months ago.

The truth of the matter is, we are all products of something.  Lukas was a product of Hooters before he became a product of this new project.   We all represent and reflect the choices we make in life.  Maybe you don't necessarily believe in the choices he's made, but I mean, he's going into the recording studio, and he's going on tour.  Where are you going, D?  What do your choices reflect?  What product are you selling?  I'm not going to state it outright, because I would hope that you could take a good look and realize what I'm saying here.

Hmmmm... let's see... former Hooters cook becomes lead vocalist for a one-shot band, gets to record an album and go on a headlining tour with same band, and then after that, who knows what will happen.... VS. living with girlfriend's parents as an unemployed rocker wannabe who has yet to sell 1 song.

hmmm... difficult choice.

im sorry D.
but if gilby hasnt produced or written a hit single, does that make him a bad musician?

have you heard Tiuana Jail, Cure Me Or Kill Me, Zip Gun, Captain Chaos, Alien, Monkey Chow, Wasnt  yesterday Great and so forth?

gilby has LOADS of fucking great songs! and calling him a nobody would be like calling my shit for the next Axl Rose....

just cuz ones record label doesnt give the artist enough promotion doesnt make them untalanted or any less talanted then the high profiled band...

the only reason Bon Jovi got huge was the look.. dont think the music had too much to say there.
i mean, yeah, the music is OK, but if they looked like shit they would end up in the gutter.

Based on those 2 tracks...I'll buy it.? :)

yeah totally...gilby's got some nice fills in there and Jason got a really cool riff at the start of that track...I'm excited for the release, I'll be getting it too

My only complaint, and it's been one since the show started, is they need another guitarist to play rhythm.  Hell, they should just ask Magni to join and play (he wouldn't, I'm sure...).  But they still sound very good in the studio even without it.

Actually, I'll hear from Storm again, seeing as I live about a half an hour from Portland which is where she is located.? She's a pretty big deal here.? From what I hear, she's going to be recording.?

I have some friends up in that neck of the woods who extoll the virtues of Storm Large and the Ballz.  From the little I've heard, she's pretty darn good (and successful) in her own right up there.

yeah...maybe lukas will attempt it for a couple tracks each night...i can't see him doing it for a whole show though and from what i've seen he's not too proficient at it anyway...between the 4 of them they prolly know lots of people who could step in as a live musician for them...maybe lukas will bring a former bandmate into the fold to share the fun :D but more than likely there'll be just the 4 of them night in night out.

Agreed, though, the studio work should sound pretty good if those 2 tracks are any indication :peace:

She is, and has quite a following up here.  Her band name is Storm Large and the Balls or something like that.  When we watched the first episode of Rockstar, and heard her name, my hubby and I freaked out!  It was like, Oh Hell Yeah!  We were rooting for her to win up until Dilana did Lithium.  That did it.  It was all over right there.

The only reason (in my opinion of course) that Dilana is not fronting Tommy Lee's Project is that Tommy Lee is all dick and no balls.

The final was just shown here in the UK. I wanted Toby to win! Lukas is just blah for me.

I like Lukas but I'm still bummed for Dilana. I hope they record Lukas's song HEAdspin on their album. It's much better than Velvet Revolver!

YOU WILL NEVER SPEAK THAT WAY ON THIS FORUM AGAIN!! LEAVE?
I'm sorry but it's just the way I feel.
