in Paris, there was the booing before the show, and also during the show (Ron's shredd solo before Don't cry). lol.
Even me, although I didn't boo, I was quite pissed off. I stayed calm and quiet though.

At Hammersmith after 1 hour and 40 mins of waiting in a theatre temp of around 32 degrees the booing was so loud they heard it outside of the theatre. ?All was forgiven once they went on though.

Now that I think of it Ron and Richard are always pretty far apart from each other.

I've see Ron and Finck pair up during the intro to Paradise City.

Yeah, I think Better was the only new song they had played in every show so far, IRS was played in nearly all shows, so it's pretty weird. If they were out of time I think they should cut some of the old songs instead of the new ones

Apparently someone had thrown something onstage that Axl was not happy about. He's now returned to stage and they have restarted Nightrain.

Ok bad news time.

just received the full story of what happened during Nightrain. Something was thrown onstage and Axl was not happy, shouted "goodnight" and left the stage. Eventually returned and completed the song only to shout "that's the end of the show, goodnight" Show over. Crowd now left the venue. No PC.

Well, Sharleen Spiteri from the pop group Texas got hit by a shoe a couple of weeks ago at Hyde Park. She's hardly the wild man of rock that Axl is, and her reaction was to call him a fucker, point him out to the rest of the crowd and offer him out for a fight there and then, then carry on with the show regardless.

Axl tolerated booing, "we want slash" chants and even sound problems, but shit thrown at the stage is one thing he usually does not put up with...

Post by: mikegray on July 19, 2006, 07:36:34 PM
I still think that (I know it's not goint to happen) they need to get on stage earlier, and a lot of these problems won't emerge. Let's say 9pm - not *too* early but about standard for a rock show over here. That way they can play 'til 11:30 with no huge worries, even if our new friend TD makes an appearance.

There's nothing you can do from preventing a drunken dick from throwing something.
Main thing is, they got a full setlist minus the encore. So they can't feel too cheated and have only the dick in the crowd to blame. Though Axl could have toughed it out, I can't blame him for skipping the encore since he did get hit.

Some people take it, some people don't.
Axl tolerated booing, "we want slash" chants and even sound problems, but shit thrown at the stage is one thing he usually does not put up with...
There must be a hell of lot of noobs at these shows, "we want Slash"
I hope this doesn't affect the rest of the UK tour; I'm looking forward to seeing GN'R on 30th at Wembley 8)

Remember Argentina 92' when someone through something on the stage and Axl stopped in mid You Could Be Mine and brought out the translator and said that if it happened again he'd go home and that if anyone in the audience saw someone throw something to "beat the fuck out of them".

If AXL pulls this shit in the USA it will officially KILL GNR in the USA.......................He may be able to get away with it in Europe but if he thinks about walking off stage in the USA it will kill his career...especially after the 02 tour was deemed a failure in the USA and considering there is much more negativity towards Axl and people wanting the "old band" back in the fold

Yeah, he should have CD out before the US tour.. thats my opinion anyway... Better, TWAT, IRS.. damn, this will be a strong record!
But im abit worried about no new(demo) songs on the UK tour yet..

Axl walked off stage in Detroit and the tour carried on with big shows in Toronto, Boston and New York before it was deemed "a failure" after Philly.

The lack of new songs won't fly in the U.S.... but playing an entire show minus an encore is no big deal.

just come back from the gig in newcastle, axl stormed off stage cause someone threw a coin at him and hit him, i was in the fron seating block and seen it all, i know no one should have to put up with stuff being thrown at you, but surely he's used to this by now shame that one person spoilt the whole concert, there wasnt many happy faces leaving the arena and a LOT of people calling axl when the house lights came on

all in all i thought it was a dissapointing gig, even had they played paradise city i wouldnt have been impressed, i thought it was decent but thats about it,

Reet, I've just got back from the newcastle gig. I was sitting right at the front, block 100 parralell to the security at the front of the stage.

1) I did not hear ONE where's slash chant! It didn't happen, not one. If some idiot was chanting it it never made stage!
2) I never saw anything hit Axl, he walked to the front and picked something up of the ground said something, told the band to stop and they all walked off looking confused.
3) Offstage he done a mini rant about telling security if we saw anyone throw things.
4) They came back on, finished nightrain and that was it!

Fucked a great gig up, totally uncalled for. Everyone in the band was enjoying it!

Just got back from the gig.  Just quickly...

1.  Brilliant to see Izzy... alas I have seen my hero perform.  His guitar and backing mic wasn't loud enough though.  Shame that his guitar solos (Think About You/Nightrain) were performed by Fortus, as well.  Would have been better rehearsing 14 Years instead of covering You Gotta Move.

2. Great to see Axl... in fine voice.  I remember downloading a few boots from 2001/2 and being very dissapointed.  He's sounding like his old self.

3. As you know... Axl took the band off at start of second verse of Nightrain.  "It only takes one to ruin the show!"  No Axl, it doesn't.  Rise above it.  Get security onto them AFTER YOU FINISH THE SONG.

It was surreal when they left the stage.   Apart from diving into the crowd and the ensuing riot, it was exactly like the St. Louis incident.   All the band walked off, with Iz standing there, leaving the stage last of all, almost apologetically.  Can't help but feel his days on the tour are numbered.  I know it wasn't the root of the problems that led to him leaving in '91, but Izzy was sure pissed off at the lateness (1h45m tonight) and Axl's regular storming off stage.  Should have still done Paradise City and said good night properly.  Felt a little short-changed and it was a bit anti-climatic.  Still, all in all, very enjoyable show otherwise.

Was thinking about making a last minute trip up to Glasgow, but  probably won't bother now.

You cant throw things at the stage, people should know better.  Axl is unstable as it is, let alone being hit by something to really set him off.  Id be very disappointed if i was a fan there and the show ended like that.  I hope GNR puts on a great show on friday for the UK, but I wouldnt be surprised know if something were to happen to end the tour prematurely.  The tour has been goign so well and it seems its starting to unravel alittle, I hope they can just push through and finish on a good note.

he walks off and goes home and he doesnt play many new songs. does he hate the uk?

lol... they wouldn't set up 10 dates in uk if they hated it.

i don't get it why so few new songs though... best setlist so far on tour = norway #1... any setlist been like this so far?

nope, oslo #2 comes close tho, the only song missing the second time was RQ!!! : ok:

what happened tonight is classical english behavior. there's always stupid motherfuckers in the crowd that deserve to get crippled because they keep fucking up for all the rest! god damn jordies motherfuckin' cunts! burn in hell you stupid fuckin' assholes!!!!

i'm glad axl walked off stage, stupid fuckin people like that doesn't deserve better.

i feel sorry for the the rest tho.

some of those "rest" could have prevented this...

Not really... I was one of those rest, I have no idea who threw whatever it was that was thrown, and the vast majority of the audience also could not have prevented it. Maybe one or two of the people near the dick who threw it could, but that is all.
Having just found out it was a COIN that hit Axl I am not in the least bit surprised he walked off. A plastic bottle is one thing, but to be hit with a coin, that is just dangerous. I knew it was something small, but a coin is something I never expected it to be. That is just out of order!

Anyway, the show...

Bumblefoot, first off, I read all the stuff yesterday about him being in a bad mood and stuff, but watching him tonight he seemed to be fine, he was laughing, making faces at the crowd, and playing incredibly!! The man is a real guitar hero! I thought that he seemed in a better mood than at (my only real GnR referance point) Donnington, and he was on fire then too. November Rain, his ending to that song.. Awsome!
The songs they played, they played fantastically well, and I really really enjoyed them! Izzy coming on was a fantastic occasion, and he was great, it was lovely to hear him sing as well (btw, is the bald guy Del James??). The sound was fine, the band were tight and full of energy, couldn't fault anything they did. The only problem was what they didn't do, ie Paradise City & a few new songs... I think had I not been lucky enough to go to Donnington and see them do a verrrry long set with 5 new songs etc, I might be more dissapointed than I am, I feel more for the people who didn't get to go to any of the other shows so far, and can't go to any others....... but that makes it sound like a bad show, and it absolutley was not, I loved every single minute of it, I just wish there could have been more minutes to love! I'm pretty sure this isn't the last we've seen of GnR up here in the North East... can't wait for them to come back!! :P

I might do a proper review tomorrow when I'm more awake, I have some cool pics as well which I'll attempt to put up lol  :P

I wouldnt go that far. The 02 tour went through a lot more before the cracks started to show. Things are looking more solid this time. Not flawless, but more than enough to wear it out.

Axl used to be such a badass. ?Now he is a joke . ?If the album is ever released I'll buy it and listen to it objectively ?but until then I am done with this band. ? I also refuse to go to any U.S shows unless a single ?or the album is released . ? ENOUGH IS ENOUGH ?already . ?Even though this tour has sold well ( tickets ) ?nobody but the Axl fans seem to give a shit about him anymore . If nobody in Europe gives a fuck about him anymore ?imagine ?how the response is going to be here in the U.S . ? He's going to have to perform in some 80's mullet haired ?reject bars ? because he sure as hell won't be filling any arenas ?with this pathetic ?setlist ?and no album . ? I thought he was starting to put things together ?I was fuckin wrong there. ? FUCK YOU AXL !!!

Knife throwing? Shooting? ?Getting a little carried away there. ?Liability and should be banned? ?That's funny, get a grip. ?If Axl is responsible for everyone on stage then isn't he equally responsible for the fans? ?That would, in turn, make him responsible for himself being hit by a coin! ?Perhaps if the Almighty Axl respected his fanbase and showed up on time and quit playing the same ol' bullshit then it would not have happened. ?I saw Primus back in 95 and someone hit Claypool with a shoe. ?His respone, "Have fun walking home in the snow with one shoe, motherfucker!" ?and the show went on.

Good for you, I don't care who it is playing. ?Getting hit by a metal coin, on stage, would make many bands end a show. ?No big deal. ?Really, I don't know if there are one or two members with multiple usernames, but there is a group of idiots on here that want to exploit, and turn negative every post with only one intent: ?to hurt the creditibility or the new band. ?You try to turn last nights show/Sheffield post into "Ron is gone, band is done," and now tonight, "Axl's done, everyone hates him, band is done." ?Blah, blah, blah. ?The tour has been very successful, the Greatest Hits moved up again in U.S. charts and has now been on the charts for 120+ weeks, and the band is gaining much street cred. ?This is one pit stop, in a race. ?Quit overblowing it, and really, if you are going to post something encouraging harm to others, or your 400th post proclaiming the death of the band, or whatever, then don't frickin post. ?Really, you are idiotic, warped TWATS!

Knife throwing? Shooting?  Getting a little carried away there.  Liability and should be banned?  That's funny, get a grip.  If Axl is responsible for everyone on stage then isn't he equally responsible for the fans?  That would, in turn, make him responsible for himself being hit by a coin!  Perhaps if the Almighty Axl respected his fanbase and showed up on time and quit playing the same ol' bullshit then it would not have happened.  I saw Primus back in 95 and someone hit Claypool with a shoe.  His respone, "Have fun walking home in the snow with one shoe, motherfucker!"  and the show went on.

I dont think he was getting carried away there. Look at what happened to Dimebag Darrell a couple years ago. Shot on stage while playing a fucking show. Anything can happen nowadays.

And as far as Axl being a joke nowadays Swingtrader...I dont think so. Go back to May and see the New York shows and see the who's who of Hollywood being there and being into it. Guns is the biggest selling tour in Europe, if you dont believe me then go check Live Nation. Once he gets to the States its all over, the album is gonna drop and he will be the biggest rock star once again. Obviously this band is good enough for Izzy to give his stamp of approval, and as far as the setlists, the album aint out, so they arent gonna play unreleased songs in todays world of bootlegging and internet. Be realistic. So anyways, fuck you Swingtrader.

Some of you fans are so fucking ridiculous. When things are all good and going smoothly your all sucking his dick but once a couple things bad happen, you start bashing Axl and say that its never gonna be successfull and all this shit. I'm sick of it. Axl aint catering to fucking losers on a message board who have nothing to do but to check setlists, he's playing for the fans at the show. So stop the bitching because it's becoming more than dead horse.

In my 4th grade year,
A girl in my glass got hit
By a coin I threw.

'Twas in the lunchroom
And I just tossed a penny
Right across the room.

No direction meant,
Didn't even throw it hard...
She got hurt and cried.

I got in trouble.
I'll never forget the welt
It left on her head.

Of course, she was fine,
By the time the week ended...
But I cried that night.

I just kept thinking,
"What if it had been her eye?"
Stupid accident.

And avoidable.
A coin doesn't sound like much
But it's dangerous.

I don't exactly count solos as songs, so it's only 15 songs really. But that's all VR were playing for their entire tour, so this ain't too bad. I think everyone got spoilt back in the day when GN'R always played +2hr shows.

OK the main question is that did Ron use his foot guitar during Don't Cry?

Also Happy to hear that Ron is happy but sad to hear he and Fortus had several arguments in Sheffield.
I can't even begin to imagine what the hell these 2 would have an argument about.

Ron is the nicest most humble guy and obviosuly the argument he had with Fortus had a very bad effect on him last night. He was really sad and depressed and didnt even play all the songs. Fortus seemed fine so I can only imagine he hurt Ron in someway.

I know Fortus was a "rockstar" before GNR and some of that rockstar attitude could've led to him hurting Ron.

I'm first and foremost a Ron Thal fan and then a fan of this current GNR. If Ron left tomorrow I wouldnt care about this GNR anymore but as long as he's in GNR I will follow them obesessively and desperately want them to succeed mainly for Ron's sake.

Seeing Ron sad in the band makes me sad so while he's in GNR I hope above all things that he is happy.

Take a walk pal. You come off like an arrogant six year old. The band drops the ENCORE because Axl got hit with a bottle, and you predict the tour will implode? You know how many times encores have been dropped by bands?

Then you claim "only the Axl fans care" yet even you admit the tour is selling well. So everyone at the show is an Axl fan? Frankly I think the thing that has people hyped most is IZZY showing up at some shows. I guess Izzy wasn't part of your real GNR though.

Leave the board if you wish, with your attitude in this thread you ain't gonna be missed. Enjoy the dancable VR album.

The new songs need three guitar players. If they used three guitarists for the album, why not for the tour as well?

Richard isn't as good a player as Bucket but he's got a lot of charisma. Bumble isn't as good as Bucket and has zero charisma. He has to go. Axl needs somebody who can kill on guitar, and who has tons of charisma, and Bumble is not the man for the job. Just because Bumble will answer your e-mails doesn't make him the right guitar player for this band.

correct me if im wrong but ron and fortus are always on the same side of the stage , at least i think so.

ron and fortus - left
tommy and robin - right
axl - middle

that is correct.

That is not correct. At least in Finland they were all over the stage, except Tommy who doesn't move much.

Well said.
I've been saying from day one that Bumblefoot wasn't the right guy to replace Buckethead.

If Slash doesn't want to come back, it would be cool to have Buckethead back. BH changed newgnr into something original, he is greatly missed. Newgnr without him is banal. :-\

Slash will NEVER play solos like BHEAD, FACE IT, 2 diferents stiles of guitarrists for fuck?s sake!
people try to compare always!! is like saying that Jerry Cantrell is "worst" than Dimebag (RIP)... godamn, they can play fast and shit, but KEEP IN MIND THAT THEM BONES FROM ALICE IN CHAINS HAS A FUCKING GUITAR MELODY AND 5 MINUTES ALONE FROM PANTERA?S TOO !!!! and they?re both diferent stiles of guitarrists!

Anyway, I'm pissed off 'cause these setlists.. I would be satisfied if the new songs would be played, but no. I hope we'll get the reason for not playing them soon.

It's a shame for all the fans who went last night, behaved themselves and now feel disappointed because of one idiot.  Throwing stuff is wrong, it upsets Axl more than anything else, it upsets the rest of the band too (remember Tommy at Donnington).  At least they came back and finished the song and said that's it instead of everyone waiting around and wondering what was going on.  It's very disappointing that there seems to be some problems with members in the band.  Before the tour some bandmembers were not happy with the inclusion of another guitarist (ie BF), up to now that doesnt seem to have got in the way of a great tour.  I'm wondering if they are feeling the strain of doing British shows.  You always read how bands say the British fans are the hardest to please and shows hear are tough but rewarding.  After Donnington which must have been tough, they all had a hell of a lot to prove before a massive audience who were not by any means all fans of the band.  There was a lot of hostility and booing due to the solo's and our new friend the TD's.  Don't forget the 2002 tour only lasted 15 shows this one's been a lot tougher.  I hope they get over this 'glitch' soon, Glasgow won't be forgiving!  I'm taking my son to Birmingham, he's only 9yrs old show is due to start at 8.15 (I'm hoping for a 9.30 no later start), at least he's got no school the next day.  He's looking forward to it so much I'd hate him to be disappointed.  I think the only thing the real fans can do is sort out those who are not behaving if they are kicking off around you.  I know that happened with a few guys who were shouting for Slash at Donington ( I guarantee they weren't saying anything for a week or two!)  Here's hoping for a great next show!!!

Nothing. Thats what.

:hihi: Yeah im a young'in, not ashamed.

But honestly! Every show people are bitching.. you know? How many times can people make something up?

How many people who are talking about "Ron and Richard's fight" were actually at the show?

Has there ever been an interview or incident where Richard seemed angry/bitter about not being the lead?

Seriously, this tour is going almost entirely hitch free and people still make up drama.

What happens is this...

Quote
GNRLover34: Yeah Ron looked kinda down on stage
AXL_Love: Oh yeah? What was wrong with Ron?
BHFan: Somethings wrong with Ron?!
theownanator: I hear hes pissed at Axl for something he said on stage.
GNRLover34: Well Axl DID say something to Ron on stage... maybe he said something bad?
Doom N' Gloom: Well.. that proves it. Ron's leaving
BumbleRULES: RON ISNT LEAVING STFU
SlashMAn'88: BumBlestinkyfoot sucks anyways bring back the BUCKET!

5 pages later... no one even knows whats going on and everyone takes the rumor as fact.

Heh. Im sorry, but thats how it seems to play out for me.

You guys can keep speculating though. Go for it. Im out, wont bother ya anymore.

What the fuck is up with the British crowd?

They always seem like fat, spoiled brats bitchin on everything. If you're not the new hype then everyone thinks you're shit. One day they all buy your album so next day they can burn it all because everyone and the mags say they suck. No wonder most of the British bands don't do shit outside the UK cause most of them are crap (like latest hype Arctic Monkeys).

In Holland GnR played on a real hot day where all the fans waited outside in the sun in 35 C and never did I hear one BOO. All I heard was "Guns N Roses" as in Get In The RIng . And it was great show where you could see the band enjoy themselves and play the fuck out of every song. Positive reviews all over. Why? Because we came to have a good time instead of pay money to see a band fail and then bitch about how they suck and all. Or throw coins......you Brits need to grow the fuck up and not go see a band of whom you don't like the bandmembers. If give some love you will get a good show if you treat them like shit you get a shit show. It's that fucking simple.

How stupid can ya get?  Why does some 'so called fan' go there with a view to ruin the show?!  I wasnt there but if a certain idiot at these shows carries on like this then the band will no longer trust us (UK fans) and go home early!  It also shows in the setlist as they havent been playing new songs!  They must think we don't like hearing them

It was an awesome show, I loved seeing Bach and Izzy onstage, and once again the band has great chemistry.

I was disappointed and let down by Axls childish behaviour. Yes, throwing things can be dangerous, but because of one person and one thing that was thrown everyone had to suffer. He always spits the dummy like that, he needs to learn to fucking suck it up. He literally stormed off the stage shouting 'no, thats the end, go home!' and throwing his mic on the stage like a baby. It left me with a sour taste after the show, and they only played ONE new song!?!

I really hope I don't have to sit through all the usual stuff again in Nottingham. I thought the UK leg of the tour woutl bring a setlist change, or at least more new songs. This is NEW GnR, they need to start acting like it, not like some cover band.

i think in some respects axl need to grow up.....people won't tolerate bands going on 2 hours late, like in hammersmith (there were heaving booing going on after like an hour and a half). i think booing after waiting that long is justified, axl has no reason to be late, if the rest of the band can make it on time, why can't he?

on the other hand, people who go just to throw shit, shout for slash and boo new band members is just sad......i don't know of any other band who is treated this way by "fans" i dont know why the go, i dont have ?50 to go see a band i don't like and just want to abuse?

but maybe years of not giving a fuck about the fans has begun to backfire massively on axl, and the rest of the band suffer as a result, its a shame so many people want ot see them fail, or see them blow up.

i for one really hope that it doesn't happen, just put the finger up to the haters GnR!!!!

well, i dont know about the UK fans , but you re right about the "feeling" that the band gets from the crowd.... in Greece, we waited for 60-80 minutes , some people started to get pissed off, some of them were chanting for "slash" - very few though ?;D - but as the first riff of "welcome to the jungle" hit us, everybody , and i mean EVERYBODY - even the people who were there just out of curiosiity - had a blast, had a great mood, and it was clear that the band really enjoyed it nad gave us a very cool perfomance...

We didn t wait for 60-80 minutes... There was no announcement about the time that GNR would hit the stage... and they were on stage at 22.00. I don t think that there were people thinking that GNR would be on stage earlier than 22.00 as Star Star were playing till 21.15

You get idiots at every concert, no matter whether it's a Britney Spears show or a Marilyn Manson show. You just have to learn to deal with it. The security is there to stop people acting like assholes - as Axl pointed out. I just think he over reacted and he didn't give the fans any time to behave - like he expected it to happen again, so just stormed off.

Hell, Axl made me stand through Bullett for my Valentine and some large loud drunk woman trying to push in front of me for hours. But instead of crying and sulking and going home I sucked it up. He's a grown man, he needs to learn to deal with it.

In Newcastle GnR the doors opened at 18:15, they were orginally adverised (before a last minute change, only advertised on website) as going on stage at 20:30. They didn't go in stage until 22:10. Thats FOUR hours people had to stand. It was the hottest day in the UK since 1911 and it was fucking hot inside the arena.

The show was fantastic, Axl and the band were joking amongst themselves and the crowd.

There was only one negative booing from the crowd just before the intro due to being late on stage. Then the crowd got right behind them. Singly loudly during the sing-a-long bit during Knocking on Heavens Door was great to hear. The crowd cheered all the solos too.

As for the coin incident. Like I said, I was at the front of the seating section right next to the security line. It wasn't like "Owww, what the fuck hit me". I didn't see anything actually hit him. He casually turned round, walked to the front of the stage and picked something up.

Awesome gig, shit unnecessary ending.

Anything good to report from this gig?

No madagascar, no IRS, no chinese democracy, no paradise city, no TWAT -well there was one twat I suppose, but no There Was A Time.

Bummer.

I want to here madagascar live on Friday but it is not looking like I'm going to get my wish.

I really dont understand why they have dropped the new songs, its very disapointing.

Plain and simple, Axl is just a little bitch. ?Yeah, lets throw a tantrum like a three year old because someone hit him with a coin. ?What an unprofessional asshole move. ?This tour is quickly becoming a joke. ?It has now truly turned into a greatest hits tour and it should be called "Welcome to Amateur Hour with Axl Rose". ?People should throw stuff at him not out of principle. ?I think we are about to see another band implosion and CD will never see the light of day. ?

Ok, encouarge people throwing stuff to harm the band is disgusting, and possibly illegal (ban him right there board owners, huge liability--ban him). ?Coins being thrown from a crowd at a college football game I was at, almost killed a member of the pep band during a pre-game show two years ago where I live. ?Your post speaks for itself, and is profoundlly antagonizing and pathetic.

Secondly, if it was a coin, that is totally dangerous. ?What's next, knife tossing, shooting? ?This is a different day and age, and Axl is responsible for everyone on stage. ?The last thing he needs is someone getting hit in the temple by a high velocity coin, or other object. ?Someone could be seriously injured or killed. ?They played two hours, and did not incite a riot. ?On to the next gig, and let's hope they have better security and less drunken psychopaths in the crowd. ?

take it in the context it was intended, not as an excuse to post apologist ramblings? ::)

You sound like George W. Bush, and your rhetoric, is well shallow, hollow "shit." ?If anything, metaphorically, ?you are being an apologist, defending wanton acts of violence. ?I don't care what his thought was, he encouraging throwing Coins at the band. ? It's inexcusable at that point. ?Where does one draw the line idiot?

Please explain how I sound like George W. Bush?
And dont call me an idiot pal, you certainly havent earned that right - get a clue

when you start talking about knives, violence etc.. youre taking it a step too far. The point I was making ?is I dont think the guy was being literal in encouraging people to throw shit - just expressing justified frustration at yet another pathetic Axl outburst.

There is more to life than GNR, so what they had a fall-out, everyboby falls out from time to time, people we should be happy that they are touring!!

Quick review of the gig last night for the benefit of those interested:

Band arrived onstage late at approx 15-20mins past ten.  There was some booing and a fair few people pissed at the delay.  This was mostly due to the fact the area was like hotter than a Turkish prison, there was steam in the air and the surfaces were soaking with sweat.  It really was boiling hot.  But, this is Axl, people who don't expect him to run late are kidding themselves.  There was the odd voice shouting for Slash, but again, the guy hasn't been in the band for a decade, so I'm not sure what people expected.

The sound was good, but not brilliant.  Axl's voice was mixed a little low, although his vocals were very strong all night, and he still screams with the best of them.  Guitars were a little overcooked at times, and Robin's solo suffered the worst from it.

It was a familiar set list, with little interaction from Axl really.  The band played the songs fast and hard.  There were the odd few pyro's but perhaps not as many as I had expected.

The solo's were overall cool, with ther highlights definately being Dizzy's spell on the piano and the rendention of 'Don't Cry'.  I don't really think these spoilt the rythm of the set, and they seem to be there to let Axl have a breather and change his costume.  He's looking a little tubby in the flesh nowadays, so the cycling shorts are well and truly gone and he just swapped into baggy t-shirts and waistcoats all night long.

There was only 'The Blues' as a new song.  It got a polite reception, but easily the worst reception of the night.  It seemed like a lot of people didnt know it, and to be honest it wasn't the best rendition of it I've heard, even if Axl did sing it from on top of the grand piano.  I think the tour is more likely to try and appeal to as wide a fanbase as possible with the hits in preparation for the new album.  I'm not sure if the band themselves really know what their fanbase is anymore, whether it's people wanting new material or just older fans wanting to hear purely the classics, so this tour is definately playing it safe.  Hopefully when the new album comes out they will tour to support it and play a lot more new material.

As for the final incident, Axl was pretty pissed.  After the coin toss the band played on and he actually turned round and shouted at them to stop, then stormed off, leaving a bemused crowd.  He probably only came back to prevent a riot, and it seems like the band had agreed that 'Nightrain' would be the closer, because they played the hell out of it.  Axl left the stage stating the show was over, but everyone hung around waiting for 'PC', but then when the house lights went up we all knew the game was up.  Still, it's only one song missing, and he wasnt ranting and raving at the crowd (apart from calling the throwee a 'little c*nt' of course).  Even if he played through gritted teeth at least he came out and gave the crowd some closure, even if the encore was gone.

There were a few people confused and dissapointed at the abrupt ending, but there wasn't an overwhelming bad atmosphere at the gig, and it wasnt an 'Axl vs them' mentality at all.  In fact it was pretty much a normal gig bar about 30 seconds of madness.

It was still a great show, and they still played for two hours or so, which is good going.  Compared to the last time I saw them in '02, I don't think this show was quite up there (less pyros, new songs, no Buckethead or Encore), but on the plus side there was a cracking duet with Bach which was great fun, and it was amazing to see Izzy back, even if he did look a little lost out there.  Band were tight, and I certainly left the arena happy.

Show finished roughly 12:20ish I think.

I find it quite amazing that people put the blame on Axl for this. I think it should be the crowd's responsibility to track down the fucker who threw the coin and cripple him. Instead, they call Axl's name after the show. Unbelievable.

It would be nice if GNR cameras picked up the incident so that they could show it on the big screens. That way people could easily identify him.

God I don?t get this at all! How come there are asshole like those drunkers that go to the gigs, PAY for the tickets to spoil other?s entertainment??? Damn, this really pisses me off. When I went to RiR I had these 4 or 5 completely smashed guys by my left who spend ALL gig yelling, trowing beer at us (yes, I was trying to FOCUS on the gig as it was so important for me but I had these guys trowing beer at me and my brother), laying on the floor... and (this is true) not even for ONCE they looked to the stage!!! :-X Now, I really don?t get this!! How come guys like these, and the ones from Newscastle as well go to a gig, pay for it just to spoil everything and get drunk... God it?s so stupid.....

I don't know about the other shows, but I was at Hammersmith. The booing has been completely overplayed; there wasn't that much, just for about 10 mins before they came on, and really it was in jest. Noone was seriously booing the band at least where I was, it was more kind of an ironic chant for them to get on stage- a way of showing enthusiasm. The crowd couldn't have been more into the show, and the band loved it too- we weren't an unkind audience at all! In Donnington most of the reviews by the crowd on general sites were very positive, and don't mention any trouble really- we attract the whingy whiny sorts here who search out fan sites after gigs to vent their teenage angst. Take no notice of them.

It's that fucking simple.

well, i dont know about the UK fans , but you re right about the "feeling" that the band gets from the crowd.... in Greece, we waited for 60-80 minutes , some people started to get pissed off, some of them were chanting for "slash" - very few though  ;D - but as the first riff of "welcome to the jungle" hit us, everybody , and i mean EVERYBODY - even the people who were there just out of curiosiity - had a blast, had a great mood, and it was clear that the band really enjoyed it nad gave us a very cool perfomance...

We didn t wait for 60-80 minutes... There was no announcement about the time that GNR would hit the stage... and they were on stage at 22.00. I don t think that there were people thinking that GNR would be on stage earlier than 22.00 as Star Star were playing till 21.15

I don't get it. Why were you waiting for 60-80 minutes?

What time did you expect GN'R to be on stage? Was there a time schedule I'm not aware of?

Doors were supposed to open at 5.30, they opened at 6.10, GN'R were on stage at 10 sharp, and there was an opening act as well.

I mean, even the newspapers say that GN'R were one hour late, even though the rest of the reviews are amazing. But I never understood where did they see the fuckin delay...

The only things we were aware of is that the doors would open at 5.30 and that there would be 1 or 2 Greek support acts.

The doors opened like 30-40 minutes later and there was one suport act. No delays, no nothing.

As simple as that for Greece.

It's ridiculous. People act like nothing the band does is right. Whining about guitar players, Axl (as usual), setlists, show length, where they play, who's opening for the band, who's making guest appearances and how often, what they're wearing, what Axl didn't say in between songs etc etc.

Regarding the lack of new songs:

Maybe, just maybe, Axl will pull some of the new stuff out when there is one less support band (i.e. over the weekend) and GNR techically have more time to go on. I'm presuming that BFMV can go on half an hour earlier thus giving GNR an extra half hour. And maybe Axl is been resourceful with his voice during these early UK shows and he knows full well that the majority of the crowd just want to hear the hits anyway so why not leave some of the new stuff out for a show where you can properly showcase it?

I would not read too much into the setlists for this tour until after the weekend, when Bach returns to the shows. I mean for example, it's likely they'll drop My Michelle if Seb isn't there, just wonder what they might consider replacing it with.

I just wish some people on this board would use rational thinking for a change and not jump on every little tidbit of info out there with the usual:

"OMG, (insert random member here) is leaving."

"One new song! WTF??!!! Chin Dem defo not coming out ever!"

"Axl gets hit??!!! This is the end of GN'R as we know it!"

BTW I have some photos from sheff that I may upload later.

wheres the next show? manchester?
wherever, im hoping for another "st. louis sucks" kinda thing. maybe tearing up a newcastle united top or something.

to be honest, while i do understand the negative reaction and anxiety axls actions (his timekeeping skills, his 'tantrums') i've come to the conclusion that those people are pretty much wrong. since 1993 rock n roll has retreated to "a job" rather than an experience. there have been so many rules inforced in rock n roll that it has stifled the heart and soul and fun out of the rebellion and freedom that it is meant to offer and represent. there are but a few mainstream (or even underground) acts who try and adhere to the principles of the rock n roll ethos (and even those, dylan and jack white spring to mind, keep well within the structure boundaries such as clearchannels timescales), and whats worse is that the public have accepted this - not only as the norm, but as the expected, so much so that they get pissed off if things are completely exact.
with axls return (and christ almight, thank fuck it is a true return as his glorious behaviour last night suggests) we finally have someone who is not afraid to embody the rock n roll and its freedom. axl will do what the fuck axl wants. and though it isnt as plain and simple as that, he is the closest thing we have to that spirit and to see it bubbling under and erupt is something that should be cause for celebration.
the enemy here is the neanderthal, the dangerous fucking asshole, who threw a fucking coin. not axl. applaud his timekeeping skills, applaud his indignation. applaud his loose and ramshackle and even deviant behaviour. for its rock n roll and it has been missing for far, far too long.

Here's my review from down the front last night. Us Brits aren't used to these temperatures like....

The hottest day since records began in England brought Guns N? Roses to the Newcastle Arena and an eventful night with trademark highs and lows.

Coming to the stage two hours later than billed and with a restless and baking hot throng of a crowd baying for them, the band tore through Jungle, Easy and Brownstone flawlessly. Everyone looks happy again, particularly Bumblefoot who was tearing all over the place and in jovial mood with Axl.

A pyro-filled Live and Let Die, KOHD and Sweet Child were lapped up and Axl was quick to observe the increase in the arena?s temperature when he mentioned, ?We?re cooking now!?.

Then we got the solo spots. The bone of consternation for most of us on this board and let?s be honest, in a two hour show we could do without a Robin, Ron, Dizzy and then Robin and Richard solo spot. Does Axl need to rest his voice? Does he want the rest of the show to be so memorable he lets everyone in the band tart about like Joe Satriani and Elton John for five minutes by themselves? Either way, tonight it?s welcome so the crowd can cool down for a few minutes.

The Blues is pitched note perfect to a sea of blank faces, I?m the only person I can hear singing along. As in Sheffield, this is also the only new song we get tonight, caused by the band?s late arrival.

Seb Bach comes out for My Michelle and builds on the energy he started with his own band?s support slot and then Izzy comes on for the last few songs Think About You, Patience, Nightrain and a run through a Stones song which also features some guy from the crowd on backing vocals! Izzy was looking good and sporting the flat black cap he used to wear back in the day.

Then the fun started. I was up against the barrier right in front of Axl when something, the size of a coin, was thrown at him. The band tore into Nightrain, but Axl was distracted by this. He carried on singing whilst looking down at the object then picked it up and started mumbling to himself. He ordered Frank to stop playing and the band walked off. From off stage Axl asked the crowd to chop anyone seen throwing objects to security and the band came on to play Nightrain in its entirety.

Then they were gone as Axl spat out the words ?That?s the end of the show?. Presumably we missed Paradise City due to this idiot, but with the band being late for the second consecutive night it appears the only staples of the setlist that went missing were new tunes I.R.S, Madagascar, Better and Chinese Democracy.

A fun night up in tha Toon. Far too hot, but hugely entertaining, if not slightly subdued. Has anyone else noticed the slower pace the band is playing at on this tour? Patience and KOHD were very sluggish and felt like they were coming to a stop on occasion.

Also a quick point about the stand in drummer Frank, is this the same guy who drummed for Paul McCartney on his world tour?

Richard isn't as good a player as Bucket but he's got a lot of charisma. Bumble isn't as good as Bucket and has zero charisma. He has to go. Axl needs somebody who can kill on guitar, and who has tons of charisma, and Bumble is not the man for the job. Just because Bumble will answer your e-mails doesn't make him the right guitar player for this band.
thank you i agree... people who didnt like bucket seem to love bumble and i dont know why.  i guess the email thing and being more like a regular guy appeals to them and the playing and stage show has nothing to do with it at all.  He seems cool and can play better than me.... but does that make it right for gnr?

What happened last night???? 12,000+ idolised Axl, cheered the solos and had a great time! ONE person "allegedly" threw something at him! I had a great clear side view of the stage and only saw him pick something up off the floor. Until I see a bootleg or footage of it then this gets the? ::) treatment!

Take no notice of them.

im not trying to slag the band off or slate axl for what happened if you read my posts you will se im a firm supporter of this band. i just think that axl is childish at times, its fairly unprofessional thats he's late all the time. he is late btw, if doors are at six and he aint on till after, thats late :hihi:.

other bands i.e U2 and the stones, wouldn't do this. he is late btw, if doors are at six and he aint on till after, thats late :hihi:

it also seems to us on the outside like he is primaddonna----i.e the band make it on time, but he makes it whenever he feels like it. ??? so yes he is 44 and needs to grow up.

i was also at the hammersmith gig, and there were lots of boos, a hell of a lot, everytime the house music went down there was torrents of abuse going toward the stage and lots of chants for slash, saying that, when wttj started all was forgiven and forgotten ;D

bottom line for me is

its a great band, the new songs are great.
but axl needs to get it together, he's is on his last legs, so many chances, so many fuck ups.

there are many people who come here just to slate the new gnr, im not one of them, although i believe that saying axl should quit this late shit is whining, that doesn't mean it isn't true

im sorry to be so crass, but i gotta say, fuck off. axls attitude is a joyful thing. he is once again the only leading light we have for a true rock n roll spirit. the professionalism of the stones and u2 and basically every other band and artist around is grotesque. theyre showing up and doing their jobs. there is no spark or energy or truth in what they do. axl offers us something we only get in fits and starts (again, the only artists ive seen in the past year that do offer something more than just professionalism are jack white and dylan, and even they adhere to the strict rulebook of concert promoters and law enforcers no matter how entertaining and intriguing their live shows are) from other bands.
the fact that th public have accepted this slick professionalism as something honourable is alarming. rock n roll should be freedom, not set on rails, on time contraints and certainly not controlled by "the man". axl, in his own weird way, is still rebelling against that and that is something to behold and rejoice in. fuck playing from 8-10pm, thats a fucking load of shit. rock n roll plays when and what it wants to play and does what it wants to do. fuck the rules. and fuck those who adhere to them.

One ridiculous baseless theory: maybe the UK tour is a farwell for the AFD setlist. :hihi:

yeah, i think itd be pretty cool to play the hell out of AFD for the next 7 shows.. then a little quiet time.. boom release date, US tour.. and about half of AFD probally gone from the setlist. Then, everything would be forgiven and forgot.

so the only new song was The Blues, oh. And they did not play Paradise City, that's really bad. I'm glad that i didn't bother going to the gig, not that i had plans too :hihi: if i make one GnR UK gig this year, it'll be Wembly

Wow, they got like 95% of a Guns concert and thats not worth bothering to go to?!?!

They went to a concert, they should have got a 100% concert. A show is a show, just that. Missing the end song is not correct, they should have dropped a guitar solo or something. As for the band appearing on stage late, what's their problem?  :peace:

I'm saying that he's 44 and he's been like this and way worse since the beginning...he's not gonna change...it's the way he is...

and Axl Rose isn't Bono or Mick Jagger...Gnr ain't U2 or the Stones....it's the way it is deal with it...also 1/2 hr or 45 minutes is nothing to 3 hrs or not showing at all...be glad he played at all look at the people in vancouver or Philly or any of the other shows that were cancelled in 2001 or 2002...at least you got to see Axl and NuGnR...some others ain't so lucky to bitch about only seeing 15 songs instead of 16. if it's too hot stay home or bring some fucking water :P

Go over to Sladdi's site where you can hear Axl talking to the crowd after the coin throwing incident via MP3.  He was being so diplomatic and calm about things.  I think Axl is doing a great job this tour, and I hope he can continue to do so.

a few random notes from last night:

When Baz came onstage for my michelle he commented "man, you've gotta play IRS tonight", presumably we'd have gotten it for the encore along with PC had it not been for whatever the happened during nightrain.

Axl was in an amazing mood all night up until the throwing incident, he commented that the band was having "too much fun", and nightrain began with two lots of opening lines, the "loading like a freight train, flying like an aeroplane, feeling like a space brain" were sung twice, which was very cool.

With regard to the temperature, Axl commented that it was "hot up in this bitch tonight", the security at the front of the barrier were spraying the crowd with little water gun things to try and cool them down, during Patience Axl acquired one and sprayed himself, the crowd, and any of the band members that were close to him - he went after richard and bumblefoot if i remember correctly.

As for The Blues, there was no-one else around me singing along, but Ron's Don't Cry solo got a fair sing-along from the crowd and November Rain was sung from start to finish by most of the people around me.

Would've been nice to get an encore, but other than that it was a great show, Izzy made my night, I've now seen all the original members of GN'R in one form or another...

Ok, here's my bit now ;)

Firstly, the reason why some people (not all!) were booing for the brief time they were was not really down to how mean and nasty the Brit crowds are...more to do with the arena and it's lack of information, I reckon.  We were told that doors were at 5.45 and Guns'd be on at 8.30.   Now, I, and pretty much anyone else here, know that that's not gonna happen.  However, we are the hardcore and most of the people there are casual fans whose GnR knowledge probably stops at where to buy the coolest tshirt on the high street.  These people won't have known to expect him to be late and the venue didn't go to any trouble to tell us they would be.  Sure, there was a last minute time change but by that time, most people were probably at the venue, waiting outside on the hottest day over here since 1911.  Plus, they didn't hit the stage till almost 2 hours after they were originally billed and we were packed like sardines in there.  Like someone else said, people were being passed over the front before the band even got on the stage.  I'm not blaming the band for this, more the venue, but that's probably where the booing came from.

However, during my wait, I got talking to the security on the right hand side of the stage as I was front row.  Got a few little bits of gossip from them, though god only knows if it's true.  Subjects of interest:

1.  Apparently, there was a physical fight between 2 guitarists after the Sheffield gig though the security guy did not know who was who
2.  Apparently, Axl was going to open with 14 Years and move straight into Better - the guy had seen it on the soundguy's set list.  That, as we all know, was bullshit, but I don't think the guy was lying, which is strange...
3.  Security guard snuck backstage for a look at Axl's dressing room before he arrived.  Covered in roses, with lots and lots of towels and...a bowl full of Vimto lollipops.  Excellent taste, Axl, haha.

As soon as the opening notes to WTTJ kicked in, every fucker forgot how long they'd been stood waiting and were just going crazy for the band.  The reception they got was amazing and the gig was going really fucking well.  Axl was in high spirits, not interacting much, but always smiling and seemed to be enjoying himself.

The setlist was fairly predictable with the sad omission of the new stuff.  As someone else mentioned, Seb Bach demanded Axl play IRS but Axl just turned and said 'No, we're having too much fun here'.  The Blues sounded good but got a lukewarm reception, couldn't see anyone from where I was standing singing along at all.

As for Bumblefoot's mood...well, you could certainly tell he was playing for the crowd, but he looked exhausted - whether it was the heat or whether it was his mood, who knows.  I still loved him though, I like the genuine warmth he seems to have when playing.  He didn't look as happy as when I saw him at Download, but that's just me second guessing, so can't really comment.

Finck was on good form, looking like a Dickensian tramp again.  In fact, everything seemed to be coming together and working better than I've seen it with the new line up.  Even my boyfriend, who is a GnR hater for the most, said that he thought they really were holding it together and playing their hearts out.

Couple of great comments from Axl - the downing of the Newcastle Brown scored him some brownie points and his rant at the security for eating all of Seb Bach's food was pretty fucking funny too.  It was really obvious he was enjoying himself.

Then, the strop.  I didn't see anything hit the band *at all* and I was front row with a perfect view of the stage.  I did see a bottle hit Finck right near the beginning of the show, when he was doing his solo, but Finck didn't flinch and nothing happened.  I'm not denying that something was thrown but it certainly wasn't a case of the crowd being unruly and ungrateful...probably more like one little prick who had something to prove.  The rest of the crowd was overwhelmingly positive all night, despite the heat and the wait time.

I thought it was all over when they disappeared during Nighttrain, but looks as though Axl did the decent thing in giving us at least a bit of a finale.  I was gutted at no encore though...such a fucking shame for the fans who haven't had chance to see the whole show yet.

I don't blame Axl for being pissed off and part of me doesn't blame him for going as I probably wouldn't stick around for long if I was getting things thrown at me.  At the same time though, I was pretty upset at the situation purely because of one fuckwit spoiling it for the rest of us.  I mean, yeah, Axl's been in music for ages and should really deal with these things a bit better, but at the same time, don't fucking throw things, fucker!  What's the point?  If I'd have seen the guy who spoiled it for us, I'd have knacked him.  Twat.  Axl seemed genuinely disappointed that it had all fallen apart - when he came back on he just said in a really downhearted fashion 'fuck, I thought we were having fun tonight'.

We could see the access to the backstage from where we were and we could see people manically running around straight after they came off stage.  Seb Bach had been hanging around for ages and he just fucking ran backstage at one point.  God knows what was going on.

Bit pissed off at the end as well.  I think they were trying to hurry us out before anything kicked off riot wise but they ushered us out of a side entrance which meant those of us near where I was couldn't get our souvenir tickets back, so I don't even have that :(

Aye, my mate needed a piss from 7pm onwards.  He didn't get to go till 1am!  Another stupid rule was - if you leave to go for a piss via the exit nearest to the front (where we were), to get back in, you had to go right round the arena and in through the back doors, right to the back of the crowd.  His bladder nearly exploded.  I told him to just piss his pants - at that heat, it'd have evaporated before it made anything soggy anyway.

fact is they turn up on time, people come happy and leave happy.

this is 2006, music is about $$$$$ or ?????'s. if a band treats its fans less than great, then less fans, less record sales, less success, more record co. pressure, disharmony in band, and general fuck-up-ability.

Same! I was singing my heart out and everyone else just stood there with crossed arms and gave me weird looks. It was a bit upsetting, same thing happened at Roskilde. And I get that they are old fans who probably don't know much about the new band, but shouldn't they like, find out or something? I dunno...it was just weird, for some reason I assumed everyone would know the (old) new songs.

First of all, let me say that I am with all the people who want more new material to be played at all these concerts. As a fan I would feel let down only hearing one new song.

That being said, I think Axl Rose has a plan.... I also think that 75% of the crowd is satisfied with a setlist that contains most of the greatest hits. Axl knows this and I think he also knows that this tour will be the last hurrah for a lot of Gnr songs such as Mr.Brownstone, It's So Easy, My Michelle, Think about you, live and let die, knocking on heavens door, out ta get me, and patience, when it comes to those songs being in the setlist EVERY night... in the future, i am sure those 8 slots will be used to play 6 new songs.... Axl didn't get to go overseas in 2002 and give all those fans one last live performance of the older material, so that has to be what he is doing now. If that's what he wants to do I am happy, we've have around 30 shows this year, leaks of new music, and a lot of band contact with members of this board, the train is definitely rolling again.

I don't see why Axl would choose to do a "greatest hits" heavy setlist in the States, but if he does choose to do that, it will still satisfy at least 50-65% of arena rock audiences, I see him touring with Kid Rock and Bach, those names combined with Guns N Roses will sell out arenas, I don't give a fuck what any of you say. Those arenas would be happy with whatever setlist Axl chooses to play. But, I really do see Chinese Democracy coming out sometime in November and I believe Axl will choose the upcoming American tour to promote the album.

All the shit about Richard and Ron fighting or getting into arguments.... who really gives a fuck. I got into arguments with my best friend all the time when we roomed together in college. Shit happens, Richard+Ron are both nice/stand up guys, IF there is a problem or IF there was an argument, I'm sure it's water under the bridge by now.

Amen :hihi:

people on these boards think that every gnr fan is a member...their not...of about 10 or 12 of my friends that are GnR fans...none of them are forum goers...MrI i would say less than more than 75% are satisfied...the last 2 shows before the UK tour started there was like 2 and 3 board members respectively attending...out of 10-15k fans...that is like .02% of the crowd :hihi:

how come GnR takes all the flack for not incorporating new songs? lots of older bands tour soley on old material...I saw poison in '02 they played 1 new song in an hour nad a half...and they were ready to come out with a new CD....saw the New Skid Row...like 2/3 of the set were Baz tunes...what GnR is doing right now is not unheard of at all  biggest thing is to build the fanbase back up and generate interest...which they are accopmplishing nicely...especially after the biting incident :hihi:

I think it's funny that the "Not every fan goes on message boards" is always used as a double-standard.  For example:

"Who cares if they don't play new songs - the people at the show probably don't know them anyway, and they love the greatest hits."

OK, fine.

But then, you can't turn around and say "Oh come on, Axl's 1.5 hours late?  These people should know that!"

I can't stand the fact that people pick and choose their arguments with such blinders on sometimes.

I think it's funny that the "Not every fan goes on message boards" is always used as a double-standard.? For example:

"Who cares if they don't play new songs - the people at the show probably don't know them anyway, and they love the greatest hits."?

OK, fine.

But then, you can't turn around and say "Oh come on, Axl's 1.5 hours late?? These people should know that!"?

I can't stand the fact that people pick and choose their arguments with such blinders on sometimes.?

tell me a show that Axl EVER started on time? If axl is notorious for anything it's arriving late :peace:

Dave is right about encores. I think we have become accustom to having them, but they are supposed to occur only after truly exceptional performances.

All the shit about Richard and Ron fighting or getting into arguments.... who really gives a fuck. I got into arguments with my best friend all the time when we roomed together in college. Shit happens, Richard+Ron are both nice/stand up guys, IF there is a problem or IF there was an argument, I'm sure it's water under the bridge by now

Allegedly, disagreements between Robin and Bucket led to Bucket's departure. For the first time now, there is a chance that Ron will not be invited or will not accept an offer of extending his tour of duty in Guns. Will he be there for the US dates? It's an open question right now.

Neemo, comparing anything related to Gnr with Poison or Skid Row is a slap in the face to Gnr. You must have pretty low standards. How about comparing them to Radiohead. Just finished a tour playing 6-7 new songs a night in a setlist of 23-25 songs. Played more than 7 songs some nights-certainly not 1!

I hate Radiohead :hihi: IMO they are the ones who shouldn't be compared with GnR...although they do have 3 or 4 guitarists don't they? :hihi: :peace:

Radiohead hasn't been out of public eye for as long as those 80's bands, and like it or not, they are from the same genre/timeframe ;)

what about motley cure's new setlists when they went out recently....or aerosmith's sets...

Ron has always been very careful when talking about his future in GnR. I don't remember any comments indicating that he was definately going with the band across the US, but in all honesty, I fully expect that Ron will be there.

People go to the shows for nostalgia...they wanna hear the feel-good tunes from their younger days

Sometimes I wish I could have gotten into Radiohead's music.. :hihi:

They've been recording new material for the new album going on years now, but even when not in the studio, they can consistently be found on the road showcasing that very material for their fans, without a new album to support it.

I think it's great Axl views the potential of his unheard material in such a high regard, that he's refused to indulge us hardcore fans with anything unheard, but at the same time, of those 32 songs being recorded, you'd think they might have a dud that they could play just to say they played it...one that wont even be an album... :peace:

Just a thought.

Neemo, I don't go to shows for nostalgia...very rarely. I want the artist to challenge me and challenge himself....not take the easy way out. That is just me though. Personally, 4-5 new songs a night would be good enough for me at this point. 1 is ridiculous for a NEW band with 4-5 years of recording under their belt and about 50 live shows played.  >:(

hey man i wanna hear new shit as much as the next fan, but we get what Axl, or whoever has the say, is willing to give...there are bands like radiohead that are willing to showcase new shit, and like Black Label Society and Pearljam that give free listens for new songs, then there are other bands, like tool and gnr and NIN who hold onto the stuff until the last possible second...just the way it is people

Madagas lotsa people go to shows to sing the tunes out loud with the band...not me personally but alot do...to some people it's great fun to know all the words to all the old songs :peace:

Im just throwing darts in the dark here...

But maybe the last few gigs, specifically in the UK, the fans just really didn't have the foggiest clue about the new songs...more so than all the other places they've played on this tour so far?

Or maybe with only a few gigs left, Axl wants to starve the real hardcore fans like us going to the shows, expecting to hear the new songs, because come Fall, we're going to hear them all over again, plus much, much more : ok:

I think we all need to just chill out and stop specualting on whats going on with this band. For all we know everything is fine and dandy. The internet is the one starting all the bullshit rumors. Lets just have a little patience and we will eventually find out if anything at all is going on.

This is a amazing time to be a Guns N Roses fan, the guys are touring, Chinese is hopefully getting closer to being released and Axl seems to be in good spirits. Lets just enjoy it while we can, because we all know this could end at any given moment.

Axl should ask for everyone in the crowd to throw a buck on stage if they wanna hear another new song :hihi: think of the benifits of that.....about $10,000 each night for each new tune he plays  in the UK the currency is actually about 2.5x so thats a more of a bonus for him :P

Next to Axl, Buckethead was definitely the main attraction in 2002... The others were jealous imo.

Robin's role, for example, wasn't as important as it is now : Bucket's departure upgraded him.

In regards to Ron doing the U.S tour or not, I think all of that will be decided in the next month. If Buckethead can't be obtained to come back and play yhe solos/music he helped create for Chinese Democracy, then I would keep Ron in the fold. Ron's cool as fuck, does a good job of playing those speed parts, and has a good stage presence.

However, if I was Axl, I would try to make the peace with Buckethead and get him back into the line up, I think BH deserves his chance to play the material he wrote. Now, if BH has done something horrible behind the scenes to really fuck Gnr over, then of course don't invite him back, but I don't think something like that happened. Even if Tommy or another band member don't like BH, I think they should put aside their personal feelings and just keep it on a musical level. On a musical level Buckethead deserves to play on the same stage with all those guys.

In response to Neemo talking about a lot of bands touring playing primarily old material... I agree..... there is nothing wrong with that. But, let's face it, I don't look at GNR as a nostalgia act, I look at them as still having a chance to be the best rock n roll band in the world today based on their new material, I know all you guys do too.... so I still WANT more new songs, but I can accept Axl playing the old ones if he has some type of plan in mind. Whatever he has in store, we will see here in the next couple months... I think it's going to be one hell of a ride.

Guns N' Roses Not Able to Perform at Rock in Rio
Tuesday March 30, 6:00 am ET
A Message from W. Axl Rose

LISBON, Portugal--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 30, 2004--Guns N' Roses will not be performing as scheduled at Rock In Rio - Lisbon.

The band has been put in an untenable position by guitarist Buckethead and his untimely departure. During his tenure with the band Buckethead has been inconsistent and erratic in both his behavior and commitment - despite being under contract - creating uncertainty and confusion and making it virtually impossible to move forward with recording, rehearsals and live plans with confidence. His transient lifestyle has made it impossible for even his closest friends to have nearly any form of communication with him whatsoever. Last time I talked to Bucket, he called to tell me he had bought a bootleg DVD off EBay and how proud he was to be in Guns and how impressed he was with everyone's performance. Then, in February we got word from Brain that Bucket had called him and said he was back in Guns!? Apparently, according to Bucket he had been "Gone" but had turned himself around and was really excited to do Rio-Lisbon and a European tour. Somewhere in the following month things changed once again. According to those who have actually spoken with Buckethead it appears his plans were to secure a recording contract with Sanctuary Records which I encouraged my management to make available to him, quit GN'R and to use his involvement in the upcoming Guns release to immediately promote his individual efforts...Nice guy!

There is not a member of this camp that is not hurt, upset and ultimately disappointed by this event, and more to the point - if not this individual, certainly this individual's choices. Regardless of anyone's opinions of me and what I may or may not deserve, clearly the fans, individuals in this band, management, crew and our support group do not deserve this type of treatment. We as a whole, definitely feel that we afforded Bucket every accommodation perhaps so much so that it may be that we or more precisely, I may have done Guns a disservice and unintentionally allowed Guns to be put in this position.

On behalf of Guns N' Roses and myself I apologize to the fans who planned to see us at Rock In Rio - Lisbon. The festival and its tradition mean a lot to me personally and I sincerely do not enjoy being robbed by one of our own of the opportunity to be the first artist to play it for the third time. I would also like to express my gratitude to those who chose to embrace Buckethead's role in Guns and support our new line up. We greatly appreciate Bucket's contributions and remain open to "discussions" as there are obviously several issues to resolve. In the meantime rather than dwelling on the negative, Guns will be moving forward and surprisingly (without giving away any details) this unfortunate set of circumstances may have given us the opportunity to take our recording that one extra step further. Regardless we hope to announce a release date within the next few months.

Sincerely,

W. Axl Rose

In B's defense, the band was moribund for at least 18 months prior to Rio 4; Bucket wanted to  tour with Claypool, but had to commit for the summer and Fall.  At some point, when nothing is going on, you have make a decision to push forward. I really believe that B was not happy on that US tour and was unhappy to postpone C2B3 and a number of his side projects out of what appeared to be futile hope that GnR would get back together.

As for Axl's press release, you can literally feel the insulation in the band from those words. Lots of second hand accusations and misdirected mis-communication. Did these guys ever talk to each other directly?

Also, if Axl could recruit Ron on two week's notice, why couldn't he recruit someone back then to do the exact same job that Ron Thal is doing now?

Title: Re: Newcastle July 19th 2006 - Metro Radio Arena All Purpose Thread.

I think there is always two sides to every story, I think that press release was obviously Axl's side....the truth is usually somewhere in the middle. I think Buckethead was flustrated with the lack of progress in getting Chinese Democracy released and saw touring as pointless without a new album and eventually had to make a decision. Buckethead's guitar tech said that "Bh did some of the best stuff he had ever done for Axl"... and that "those two's attorneys only communicate now"... meaning that Axl and Bh don't talk I guess.

I wish Buckethead would just state his side of the story.... then maybe those two could come to some type of compromise and get him back in the band.  :peace:

It could be speculated that Axl may have in fact recruited Bumblefoot to join the band and re-record Buckethead's parts as far back as 2004, when rumors of Bumblefoot initially auditioning began to surface.

Perhaps the dispute Ron had with Axl/management in 2004 about the confidentiality of his audition was a cover up, just as it was for Axl to say he only joined the group 1 week prior to the May 12th show in New York... :peace:

Where are you from?  I know I've spent the last 13 years or so going to mainly hard rock/metal gigs and in most of those, I've seen things be thrown.  Seems to be quite the regular occurence in the UK, unfortunately.  Especially at festivals.  I don't understand it either.
