Title: GN'R to play shows in Florida in October
Post by: McGann on September 11, 2006, 05:13:21 PM
OK...no haiku in this one....

My brother just called me...his stepson, who I'm pretty close with, just got home and told him to call me immediately because he heard on a radio station that Gn'R would be playing the Bank Atlantic Center in South Florida on October 24th.? I trust Chris and I don't doubt that he heard it....he knows what a SICK Guns fan I am and wanted me to know about it ASAP....of course, it's a radio station, so most likely not correct, but who knows?? Just interesting, especialliy since I live in South Florida!!!!!
The listing of a venue was interesting, too...

Guns to play near me?
According to radio,
Tour kicks off here.

Splash

/Mike

Edit: New subject since it's not a rumor anymore. /jarmo

Yeah, forgot about her.

I would actually prefer they play at the amphitheater in West Palm. The acoustics in the hockey arena aren't always that great. There have been bands there that if I didn't already know the song that was being played, I'd never have known what the singer was singing.

Hard Rock Live would have been good too, great acoustics but at 5,500 capacity, maybe too small.

YES!!!!  I"m so psyched about this!!!!  I still have my Tampa and WPB tickets from '02.  We've been waiting a long time down here.  And I'm glad its at the BankAtlantic Center.  Much better sound than Sound Advice, plus air conditioning!!

Guns N? Roses 2006 North American Tour
9/11/2006
Guns N? Roses, one of the top five bands of the past twenty years, is embarking upon their ?2006 North American Tour.? On October 25 at 7:30 pm, the legendary band will stop at the St. Pete Times Forum.

Formed in L.A in 1985, this band started out by playing in Hollywood clubs, which eventually led them to be signed. It didn?t take long before Guns N? Roses became one of the most famous rock bands of all time. Not only famous for their heavy metal, and hard rock, but for their unique, intriguing hairstyles as well. After bringing a new, unforgettable sound to the 80?s, they continue their musical talent and innovative techniques today.

At a time when pop was dominated by dance music and pop-metal, Guns N' Roses brought raw, ugly rock & roll crashing back into the charts. They were not nice boys; nice boys don?t play rock & roll. They were ugly, misogynist, and violent; they were also funny, vulnerable, and occasionally sensitive, as their breakthrough hit, "Sweet Child O' Mine," showed. Guns N' Roses' music was basic and gritty, with a solid hard, bluesy base; they were dark, sleazy, dirty, and honest -- everything that good hard rock and heavy metal should be. There was something refreshing about a band that could provoke everything from devotion to hatred, especially since both sides were equally right. As the '80s became the '90s, there simply wasn't a more interesting band around.

Guns N' Roses released their first EP in 1986, which led to a contract with Geffen; the following year, the band released their debut album, Appetite for Destruction and started to build a following with their numerous live shows. Soon, both the album and single, ?Sweet Child O? Mine? shot to number one, and Guns N' Roses became one of the biggest bands in the world. Their debut single, "Welcome to the Jungle," was re-released and shot into the Top Ten, and "Paradise City" followed in its footsteps.

Guns N' Roses began work on the long-awaited follow-up to Appetite for Destruction at the end of 1990, and as one album became two, Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II were released in September 1991, showcasing a more ambitious band.

By the middle of 1994, there were rumors flying that the band was about to break up and the band remained in limbo for several years. The first new original GNR song in eight years, the industrial metal sludge of "Oh My God," appeared on the soundtrack to the 1999 Arnold Schwarzenegger film ?End of Days.? Soon after, Geffen issued the two-disc Live Era: '87-'93. 2001 was greeted with Guns N' Roses' first live dates in nearly seven years. An appearance at MTV's 2002 Video Music Awards helped garner interest in the new lineup. That summer, the band started on their first tour in almost eight years, fulfilling all of their commitments in Europe and Asia.

While having played a few shows in New York City, and most recently a 2006 European tour, the Rock and Roll boys of fame are back in North America and ready to entertain. Their countless hits such as ?Sweet Child ?O Mine?, ?Welcome To The Jungle?, ?Knockin? On Heavens Door?, and ?Paradise City? are just a few great hits that have kept this band on top since 1985.

Hello all! I have been a long time reader of this site for years! This is the ONLY place I go to get all my GN'R info. You guys have kept me going and keeping the dream alive ?for years. I have always looked on with baited breath. I have never posted or joined up until now. I hope I'm not sounding like a pathetic "noob", but the reason for my joing and posting is I want to be a part of this board, and hope there will be info about pre-sales for the Florida shows. I saw how you guys got hooked up for the Hammerstein shows. PLease don't flame me for joining out of hopes to get a pre-sale password. I am a true fan for the last 19 years and am so excited for these shows. The time is finally here and I'm glad to be apart of history in the making! Thanks again for everything!

seriously, we need a pre-sale for the Tampa show. Shit that means tickets are going on sale within a week. That's awesome.

Hello everyone,

It's great that GNR are coming to Florida - always good to hear about new shows being added. ?However, I hope they make it to Pittsburgh again. ?I lived in Tampa when GNR were scheduled to play in 2002, but that show never happened. ?(I still have my tickets from the cancelled Tampa show). ?Now I moved to Pittsburgh and I can't make it down to Florida this time! ?I guess it was not meant to be. ? :'(

How do the pre-sales normally work? I know this site got one for the Hammerstein shows, I get live nation e-mails sometimes too, do they come from there? Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance for the advise!

The one thing that is good about this venue is that the site lines are excellent. No obstructed views.

Alot to do before the show across the street at Sawgrass Mills Mall and the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is about 15 minutes at most to the south.

The venue in Tampa has alot to do before/after as well. Right next to the Port of Tampa lots of food options within walking distance.

Thats kind of the point.

Unless they are going to Atlanta over that weekend, there are no other big venues on the east coast of florida that would be a logical spot. Orlando would make sense for a weekend show. However it is too close to Tampa to schedule another big venue, therefor Hard Rock Live : ok:

Makes sense to me, book it

True, the diehards will go, but that is not going to fill 19,000 seats.

Face it, here in America, out of site = out of mind. Like it or not with the mentality of most people Britney Spears would fill these places than GnR will the way things stand now. And before anyone starts running off at the mouth, that is not a knock on GnR.

Well I would think it would be a bad idea to drop info on a new single or CD's release date at a concert.  That stuff needs to come via a press release.  Also, one of the guitarists mentioned that a new website would be unveiled before the US tour (forget who it was but it might have been Fortus).

This is why I am a proponent of the "half house" arena set up.? You can still seat 5000-7000 people in a more intimate setting. Plus, the demand for tickets could go up because supply goes down. If demand goes up, the hype for the concert could also increase. The chances of a sell out will also increase, and all people would really hear is that GNR sold out "ABC arena", rather than hearing Axl Rose's new GNR played to a half empty arena.

I know VR played some half house show's, they did in Minneapolis anyway.

I saw Duran Duran's 20th anniversary tour at the St. Pete Times forum and they played to half or 3/4 of the areana and it was just fine.

GNR aren't stupid.  They'll do just fine in this sized arena.

Going about this the way they did in 02 would be a mistake.

Either way, I'll be there.

Thats a lot of open dates between jacksonville and Ft. Lauderdale, I'm smelling an Orlando show at the Hard Rock over the weekend on their way down the east coast : ok:

Just checked, Hard Rock Live has open dates that weekend. 4 shows in Florida maybe?

http://www.hardrock.com/live2/calendar.asp?lc=LIVE

lol..wouldn't it be funny if GNR camp read this thread and they are like "oh wow, we didn't know there was a Hard Rock in Orlando.? Thanks to that Kujo dude".? And then tomorrow we get a date there :hihi:

Now I know why we had that earthquake in the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday.? It was to announce GNR is gonna rock out in my backyard :peace:

I think Orlando misses out on a lot of good acts simply because no one seems to know the venue is there-

My Dad lives in that area and always has to travel to Tampa to see a show-

Hope you Orlando folks get a show!

Do you know how much more expensive it is for the band to do those shows?  You people do know that it is the band who rents out the arena they are playing at right?  That is why the bands' management is so important.  They foot the bill to rent out the arena, stadium, etc. and then the band essentially pays back management with a little interest.  So for all of you who say ticketmaster is solely responsible for ticket prices, you are wrong.  They do in fact play a part in how much tickets will cost by researching the success of past tours, album sales, etc. but in no way are they the ones who have the only input into prices.

If GNR played these 'half house' shows they would be leaving money on the table and I doubt Axl would want to do that.  Lets face it, I think the guy would rather play to a somewhat empty arena, but maximize his profits rather than play a half house show where he would be leaving some cash behind.

Then let Axl play to a half empty arena, which it looks like is going to happen for the Cali shows unless things turn around quick. The hype the Hammerstein shows created, even though the venue was tiny, created a buzz because tickets were in demand and the shows "sold out"(even though they could have sold out the Garden), and I think this contributed to the mostly positive reviews to the shows. I just want more buzz for my favorite band, and half empty arenas is 02 all over again. I was at an 02 show, and I thought the crowd was decent, but most of what people talked about the day after is that the show was half full. GNR is prob going to get slammed by the critics regardless, but a half empty arena will make it easier to slam them. Maybe a single will be spinning on the radio for the Florida dates which would help a bunch. But I'll be hitting a show no matter what.

What's up with these tour dates? Playing California and then going to Florida. I think Axl may just be trying to finish up the 2002 World Tour after all. That must be the reason that they haven't taken down the 2002 World Tour sign on gnronline. Would you mind getting an earlier flight to Vancouver this time Axl, and giving us a show?

Somehow I don't think so. We do have confirmed dates prior to these and I think GNR is just now lining up venues past the CA dates. I would think we would hear more in other states in the coming days. Maybe mgmt is going to make one big announcement when all the dates for this leg of the tour is planned. Cant blame the venues from getting the word out beforehand.

Well, if Merck is leaving Sanctuary and Axl leaves with him, maybe that all needs to pan out and then they'll do a proper tour announcement?

Looks like it's a go for oct 24 at Bankatlantic center! Full-page ad in today's Ciitylink newspaper/magazine.

For those not familiar, it's your standard sized arena. it's where the florida panthers nhl team plays. I doubt it will sell out! I saw the foo fighters and weezer double bill there and there were plenty of seats. saw duran duran there and they had the 3/4 set up and it was packed. It would be cool if Axl did that setup.

Not much buzz for the gig yet among my sofla concert friends, theyhave no interest. they don't consider this GNR. While I will def. go, and always support axl, I do agree. It's just not nearly the same. some DJs on 93 rock this morning sounded pretty stoked though. We'll see...SoFla is a weird area....

I'm going to both the Sunrise & Estero shows.  I went for the floor seats, should be interesting.  I'm too excited, last time I saw them was in 1987 in Holmdel, NJ.  I'm still kind of hoping if they sell out the FL shows, they add more and play in West Palm Beach, which is right up the street from me!

As of right now, it looks like the "floor" at Sunrise is sold out, but the upper level chair seats are still available.  There are still "floor" seats available at Estero, as of now.  Does anyone know how the other FL shows are selling?

As of right now, it looks like the "floor" at Sunrise is sold out, but the upper level chair seats are still available.  There are still "floor" seats available at Estero, as of now.  Does anyone know how the other FL shows are selling?

Yep, and the only avialable tickets for Estero is the floor. If you look though, they allow 50 tickets to be bought at once. I bet scalpers, and other ticket sites (the ones that sell way tooo overpriced) bought them up... I saw those 49 dollar seats being sold for over 200 bucks on ticketliquidator and sites like that. so ridiculous. see you at the gigs... i know u got floor for both like me, so what time do u plan on geting to the venues. I'm geting to Sunset venue at about 4:30 and the Estero one at about 6:30. I know its like 5 weeks in advance, but its fun to talk about :peace:

Yes it is.  We'll probably get to the Sunrise show about 6 PM and the Estero show earlier, like 5 PM.  I know there is a restaurant in the Estero arena, but they only allow you to make a dinner reservation about an hour before showtime, so that won't help.  I was hoping you could get in about 4 and just slither on down to the floor, but they don't let you!  The only thing that works in my favor to get close to the stage is that I am little and my husband is big, so maybe we can just slither on down.  I just hope it's a little cooler here in October than it's been.  I know I am way older than you Mr. EFish, but I respect and appreciate all that you do for this Guns n Roses board.
