I thought the concert started at 8?

Doors open at , and technically the show starts at 8.  This means Sebastain Bach is supposed to be on around 8, and GNR to follow sometime after that.  I can't wait for the show tonight.  It should be amazing.  Then I get to go back tomorrow too :).

nice photo -- reminds me of when I drove by the Warfield in 1991 when the "surprise" gig went on sale -- which was at 8am on the same day as the show (if I'm remembering correctly).  There was a HUGE line in front the Warfield and you could just feel the excitement.

Last time the played there for a Warmup-gig...note all the NEW songs..

BAZ is about six songs into the set.  Currently playing 18 and Life (awesome tune)
Baz dropkicked a water bottle - both funny and impressive.
Baz is ON tonight.  A mic swinging madman and on pitch.

Thanks for the updates : ok: I hate to say it but these shows are beginning to have the unpredictability of a Barbara Streisand concert , or not much. I know the set is not geared toward messageboard people like us, but as I stated in an earlier thread, this band has got to be bored shitless of the same songs/same order , night in and night out. Let the "your not a true fan posts start...............now!

Well you know, it's not the same thing to read the setlist of a show sitting on your chair in front of your computer than being at the show enjoying every song.
I guess members of GNR aren't bored of playing those songs cause they like them and they know that the best will come soon.

But well, let's not start to talk about the "same setlist as usual" or "too much solo" stuffs...

I'm not gonna bash you for saying that. I agree with you to an extent, but I'll just say that you should listen to "Patience" and apply that word to your expectations of GN'R. We should just be happy they're touring and Axl isn't causing riots, etc...and patience is a great virtue that will lead us to the new album pretty soon.

I hope when CD finally comes out that LALD and KOHD (even though they're great) are replace for new album songs.

yea his renditions of IRS and Better leave a little to be desired, totally agree.    Maybe we wouldn't notice if it wasn't for buckethead doing them origianlly.   But I have to say from the vegas shows, Ron fits into this band soooooo much better than he did when I saw them in NY.   He was even jamming next to Robin a few times on songs and I haven't ever seen that happen on any bootleg except for the solo they take turns on in PC.   Ron was running around that stage as much as robin and richard do.   I like him a lot more in this band after seeing him in Vegas.

Its not hard. To guess a setlist only requires knowing one of the prior setlists. I dont get this 'he fits so much better' shit. I would much rather hear the songs the way they are envisioned instead of having a guy in the band who cant do that but runs around onstage.

I totally agree with you about Ron. he's having more fun and fitting in way more these days and sounding better too.  I saw him running around and smiling and i love that shit.  He also sometimes bangs away at his guitar like Fortus.  If he would only play bluesy a little bit more, i think that would rule.

I did my part in NYC to change shit up on Sunday night. If anyone remembers that DEAD HORSE/HERE TODAY GONE TO HELL sign, that was all me! Well and the crew at mustang harry's that helped make it. ?
Axl has to know these are the die-hards at these warm up shows. To not throw in something, anything as a treat for them is not cool. I can see why they wouldn't play Coma , etc in front of 20,000, but in front of the die-hards??

I'm not at the show so it doesn't really bother me what the setlist is. But it's practically the exact same setlist as all the rest, just without any new covers. The only thing different is a few different jams in between songs, big wow.

I didn't forget jack shit. I know it was Slash's solo. What differentiates it from any of the other solos that are played by new GN'R members? Absolutely nothing at all. If they play all of his other solos, then there's nothing stopping them from playing the Godfather Theme. I'm just saying I've never seen the Adams Family Theme listed for new GN'R or old GN'R. If the logic behind not playing UYI1 and UYI2 songs is they are "Slash songs" then what is the reasoning behind playing almost the entire AFD album? I know I was too young to see the AFD tour, but this feels like 1987 with all these AFD songs.

okay all, just got back from the show, let me say I had a BLAST! Ended up front row, and needless to say shot a bunch of pictures (and I do mean a lot), and some video. I'm quite exhausted right now, so I need to sleep, but after I go through all the pictures and video, I'll be sure to post them here.? Look for them sometime over the weekend.

Also, I don't know if this has been posted, but out in front they had posters for GnR at the Oakland Arena, December 15th! Just thought you all might to know....

Hey, I was the guy inside. What a show! Sound quality was superb. I'm not sure why soundcheck ran so late... I wonder if it will be that way tomorrow?

The "vocal acrobatics" i mentioned was just a way of saying Axl was thrilling near the end of KOHD. I headed down to the bathroom during this song, so I could be mistaken, but it sounded like we got the "i sing one, you sing one" treatment, not sure if that is regular now or not.

It was a very receptive crowd, and the after the encore, the band left the stage, came back out for a bow, and left again before the lights went up.

"Ballad of the Unknown Opener" was just some country jam for Bach.

Addams Family theme was impromptu.. Axl sang the first line and Fortus (i think) picked it up enough for Axl to get through another line or two.

Ron on Better... i can see that people who weren't there are already disagreeing :) I really DO like Bucket's work on the leak we've heard, and I've listened to a few of the Europe recordings and agree with you about that (Bucket was better). Perhaps the live energy washes away some flaws, but I really think he actually played it great and, uh, better than I've heard it plaed since the Bucket version.

I grabbed a bite to eat after the show, walked around the back of the Warfield to see what was up... got a nice picture with Axl and an autograph. There were about 12 people and he signed everything and took pictures with everyone.

Show was incredible, theres nothing else really to even say. I'm so excited for tonight. I'll be writing a nice review of both shows tomorrow.

I was at the show last night, and it was fantastic.  The band sounded and felt tighter than the Hammerstein show I saw in May.  I think being on the road really helped the gel.  Robin, Richard and Ron all played fantastically.  I think Ron's playing, most notably during "Nightrain" was very impressive.  Robin definitely has the most "rock star charisma" of the new band, and I was impressed with that.  I thought that the new songs sounded great, especially "Better".  I was pleased with the reception that "Better" got from the crowd on the floor (where I was), and surprised by how many people knew "Madagascar".  The show got off to a ferocious start with "Jungle", "It's So Easy", "Mr. Brownstone" and "Live and Let Die", and ended ferociously with "Paradise City".  Axl had a ton of energy, and I mean a ton.  That was very impressive.  I honestly had difficulty hearing Axl clearly during a large portion of the show.  When I could hear him, he was hitting all the notes.  He seemed at times like he hadn't yet developed the endurance that he had during the Euro tour, but I'm sure that's just a matter of time.  He sounded great during "Paradise City" and really seemed to kick it up a notch then!

I got to talk to Ron a bit before the show, and he was great, very nice.  I asked him if they will be playing more new songs as the tour went on, and he said he thought they would, then said "we have to", as if it hasn't been officially discussed yet.

Overall, an amazing and unforgettable show and I'm glad I was there.

Hey there-

So, I saw GnR last night at the Warfield in San Francisco. The night got off to a little bit of a slow start. The doors were upposed to open at 7:00pm, but they didn't open until 9:00pm. There was a line up one whole block and wrapped around another one. The wait sucked but the crowd was cool. Lots of people in their early to mid 30s. We were all teenagers when Appetite came out, so everyone was swapping stories.

The doors opened at 9:00 and then about 9:30, Sebastian Bach went on stage. He looked good and sang pretty well. His band wasn't all that awesome.   


He played the standard Skid Row songs. "Youth Gone Wild" and "I Remember You" went well. I was never a huge Skid Row fan, but he can still hit those high notes. He and Axl are really close it seems.

So, finally, around 11pm, GnR came out, and the place just exploded. They started off with "Welcome to the Jungle and they didn't stop for another 2 and 1/2 hours. The band is KILLER. I thought three guitar players was a bit much, but they all brought something unique to the table. The drummer is amazing - seriously - amazing. They played the songs note for note, which I was glad because I know every song note for note and that's what I want to hear.

So, about Axl. He has made me so mad over the years. He is such an ass. He took an amazing thing and let his stupid ego crush it. When I think about all the music the original GnR could have made... So, I think he knew he needed to prove something. Anyway... he was fucking awesome. His voice sounded great. Seriously, his performance was near perfect, better than he used to sound live.

He was very friendly with his band, they all interacted really well. He was gracious and thankful to the crowd. No tantrums, no anger, it was really cool to see how happy he was with the show. They played everything I wanted to hear - November Rain (amazing) My Michelle, Outta Get Me, Mr. Brownstone, Sweet child, Patience, they left nothing out. He was still doing the little dance and being Axl Rose, but he was mellow and happy. It showed and everyone in
that place had a rocking time.

The pyro stuff was insane. I really dug it. There were fireballs, and raining sparks, punctuating the big moments in the songs. At the end, they close with "Paradise City," and the whole theater filled with confetti.

I have been to A LOT of shows, and I would say this is near the top of all the shows I have seen. Everyone in the audience was singing every word. The pit was smoking. One of the guitarists, Robin Finck launched himself into the pit twice, and never missed a note.

It was better than I ever could have expected, and I am so glad that I went. Don't worry about the money or the time or whether you have a good seat - GO SEE THIS SHOW!

Security was pretty damn cool. One of the guards recognized me from other concerts, and I had my digital camera out the entire time taking pictures, and no one even second glanced it. They did search us on the way in, but I always stash my camera somewhere anyway.

Last nights show was amazing.  I hsaw gnr in 2001 on the 29th in Vegas, May 12 at Hammerstein, and last night, and this blew those two away.  The other great thing is that Axl and the band just seemed to be in a great mood and having fun.  I can't wait for the show tonight.

I'm pretty sure that this poster has more to do with the Warfield than it does with GNR... I think the poster was designed locally in SF, and it seems like the Warfield gets local artists to do posters like that for most of the big shows.

did they play paradise at the end of the show?  the setlist i saw stopped at IRS.

Okay, now that I am somewhat fairly back to normal (although my left ear is still kinda bugged) i'll get these pictures up and write a review.? My buds and I Headed out from Santa Cruz around 2:30 or so and ended up in SF around 4:30.? We grabbed a bite to eat and then hopped in line, which wasn't very long at the time.? Around 5:00 or so Bumblefoot came out and started mingling, so I walked over and grabbed a picture with him, and ended up talking with him and his wife for a while, they are both great people, very down to earth.? Talked with Ron about Eddie Van Halen and his foot guitar (RIP), and other random things.? There was this peruvian guy who kept on coming up to him and was in awe, he wanted to give bbf his Sunglasses and his charles manson tshirt, lol.? BadNaughtyKitty, saw you there, woulda said hi if I had known who you were :).? Security was lax and allowed cameras in as long as there was no flash and no professional lenses.? We were let in around 9:00 or so and when I got to the front, they were still setting up for Bach's band.? I liked Bach, surpassed what I thought he was capable of.? During one of the songs a toddler somehow ended up on his shoulders from the croud, not exactly sure how that happened, anyone know?? They played the good old Skid Row tunes, and Little Wing, which was cool.? It was overall a great performance, I had a hard time hearing Bach's vocals due to the fact that they PA doesn't really project to the front row at all, but it was good nonetheless.? Guns started around? 11:10 or so, and it was more that I could ever dream of.? Everything was great, not really any technical difficulties I could see (except for the batteries falling out of Axl's in-ear monitors at one point, but the show went on).? Everything sounded great!? Everything was somewhat of a blur as I was caught up in the moment, so I'll let the pictures do the talking for me....enjoy!

I have a few more pictures that I'll put up if i get around to it, also, does anyone know of a good program to compress video files? I have a bunch of AVI's from the show, but they are way to large....need some way to make them smaller, any suggestions?

All in all, one of the greatest concerts I've ever been to, can't wait to see them again!

all I have to say that it is impossibly hard to get photos to come out, I had a surplus of blurry photos, and I am glad that these came out, and that they are actually decent pictures, I am very satisfied with them, and hope you all can enjoy them too!
