Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite? Post by: gnr2006 on September 23, 2006, 11:36:34 PM The audio is lossy on the webcast
It's only 300k, too, I think Though WMP says it's 551k/s So it's not gonna be crystal clear I'm trying to capture it, but I don't know what software to use for this and I can't find the MMS: link Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite? Post by: gnr2006 on September 23, 2006, 11:42:14 PM Ok I am installing some software now and I'm gonna run a test.
I'll let ya' know how it goes, and if it goes well, I'll capture the gig. If anyone else is capturing it, let me know, I'll gladly host your files. Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite? Post by: SammyD1st on September 23, 2006, 11:47:15 PM You can use Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) to record the audio.

Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite? Post by: gnr2006 on September 24, 2006, 12:22:21 AM I am going to capture the .asx stream and then cut up the files individually and upload the show.
I would imagine I'll have the whole thing uploaded by Sunday night. I might do a few tracks after the show tonight, but I have to work 3 hours after this will end, sooooooooooo i might sleep a bit. But I've got the recorder working and set up. Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite? Post by: BluesGNR on September 24, 2006, 12:22:46 AM I'm capturing it in audio.. and I'm sure someone is getting video, but will someone please verify that they're getting the video? ?Thanks! ?:peace:
Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite? Post by: gnr2006 on September 24, 2006, 12:27:47 AM Here's the problem: When you record a .asx stream out of this, and then try and replay it, it still has to download the license through WMP.
Any ideas? Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite? Post by: gnr2006 on September 24, 2006, 12:29:25 AM I can't edit the file in Windows Movie Maker either, because of it's license.
Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite? Post by: gnr2006 on September 24, 2006, 12:29:44 AM BluesGNR, if you want a place to host the audio let me know
Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite? Post by: gnr2006 on September 24, 2006, 12:30:44 AM Here is what I'm talking about. This is a clip from the Muse performance. Play it in Windows Media Player, and it downloads the license. Play it in VLC and it's corrupted. Open it in Windows Movie Player, it says it's protected.

Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite? Post by: netrix on September 24, 2006, 12:38:43 AM I am using a software called Cocsoft Stream Down 5.3. It seems to work pretty well from what I have been testing with tonight. Use can goto any torrent search site and find a torrent for it.
Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite? Post by: gnr2006 on September 24, 2006, 12:39:42 AM I can record and play back on my own PC just fine. But that's because the license is still valid.

Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite? Post by: speedfreak on September 24, 2006, 01:11:28 AM ok people, I have figured out how to record the audio. it will be the same quality as whatever the webcast is. i will leave it to someone else to get the video
Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite? Post by: gnr2006 on September 24, 2006, 01:15:08 AM BluesGNR
if you need a place to upload the mp3s or what not let me know i'll give you the login to downloads.thenewguns.com, if you are familar with using FTP Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite? Post by: gnr2006 on September 24, 2006, 01:17:50 AM I'm recording the video, but like I said, it's all copy and DRM protected. So we'll have to get around that somehow. Converting seems to distort it. Once the site takes down the license, it won't play in WMP.
But I'm sure we'll get around that.... for now I'll just concentrate on trying to capture the stream. Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite? Post by: BluesGNR on September 24, 2006, 01:18:54 AM I just transfer the files to the ftp and then post links? If that's it, I'm sure I can do it. :peace:
Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite? Post by: gnr2006 on September 24, 2006, 01:23:09 AM I sent you a PM with instructions.
Thanks for doing this, a lot of people will want these right away and it will be easier if they could directly download them. Feel free to post the links wherever anyone might want them. -rX Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite? Post by: speedfreak on September 24, 2006, 01:35:49 AM I clicked Properties on the webcast and it says the audio codec is:
Windows Media Audio 9.1 22 kbps, 22 kHz, stereo (A/V) 1-pass CBR So there wouldn't be any loss in quality if I encoded it to a 64kbps mp3?? am I understanding this correctly?? I am recording it directly to WAV just to be safe... Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite? Post by: gnr2006 on September 24, 2006, 02:06:00 AM This isn't working for me with the video, it's already started and stopped a few times.
I'm giving up, will try and grab one of the new songs though and then upload it. Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite? Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite? I would imagine it's being broadcast on the radio because KROQ is FM 106.7 from Pasadena, CA.? ? I did a frequency analysis of the broadcast earlier on and it drops off at around 8000 mHZ as opposed to 16000 mHZ which is around where a 128 kbps or 192 kbps mp3 would. In addition to the shit 22 kbps quality I have noticed that it is being broadcast in "fake" stereo, as in both the left and right sides are the same...i guess this webcast rip will just be to tie us over till a lossless FM or SBD source comes around. I imagine it's gonna save as an .asx file, but with the DRM protection still intact. What we need to do before converting it is remove that protection. Otherwise I think whatever you convert the .asx to will not display properly. I could be wrong though, I'm no expert on this. Title: Re: How do I capture the GNR webcast tonite?
