Hi, I am DTJ over at Rov, I have direct contact with Neemo..as of now Baz is over and we are waiting for gnr.   The Trailer Park Boys joined Baz on stage but he didn't say what song.  I am gonna assume Youth Gone Wild cuz Scott Ian joined them for that at MSG.

Tonights show, should have the highest attendance of the tour, so far--depending upon the set-up.  I think it holds about 500 to 1000 more seats than Madison Square Garden.  Not 100% sure, but I know this is a large venue!!  Toronto  GN'R!

Sorry if this reply isn't a real reply, but I'm on my BlackBerry. The guys that got hauled off were getting right into the police's face. The crowd cheered. It was glorious. Not sure what the deal was but someone went to get them and brought them to the guys.

GN'R should be on soon. I'm out. I'll post notes tomorrow.

i'm not trying to be mean to the band or whatever, cause they are doing their own thing and thats cool. ?But honestly, don't they get bored of playing the same setlist, in the same order, over and over and over again...its been like 6 yrs they've been playing pretty much the same setlist. ?I don't know how they do it.

Because they are bringing it to a new crowd every night.

Because they are bringing it to a new crowd every night.

Exactly, as long as the crowd is into it I'm sure they are happy. Axl has sung Jungle so many times now but when the crowd starts jumping and singing along I'm sure he still gets a rush singing it.

Title: Re: 11/15 Toronto [Updates]
Post by: grog mug on November 16, 2006, 02:03:18 AM
I'm sure they get bored of certain songs, but do they really have any say over whats being played? ?What are they going to do, tell Axl "hey man I don't want to play this it's getting old lets play something else!!" ?I'm sure you can imagine what would happen if someone suggested this. ?I think the crowds reaction makes the same repititive setlist worthwhile. ?The band seems to be enjoying each and every show so far so unless your there...don't complain.

Well if you would go see the band live....you'd see that in no fucking way are they bored, because they're out there playing their heart and asses off every night.  The band was having an amazing time together at MSG, they were playing off each other and the end where Frank initiated the group hug showed what an amazing time they're having.

well i have seen them live thanks. but it was at hammerstein when they were "fresh" now that they've been touring for pretty much 5 months, i would be curious to know if they are getting a little tired of the same old show.

Did I say crowd or fans? I don't think so.

Speaking of attention, you should pay attention to the band while they're playing these gigs and that will answer your question. Honestly, I find your question quite idiotic (not to mention off-topic).

A "casual" fan of the band WANTS to hear the classics not new material that hasn't been talked about or played.  They want something they can connect with.  Just imagine going to a concert where you only know the classic songs of the band then they start playing new stuff out of no where.  I agree with the setlist arrangement for every show, but they DO need to add in a few more Illusion tracks!

Just got back from the show.  Even though it was the same setlist as previous shows, still had a great time.  Not sure when the first song hit (11:20 - 11:30), but this show went really long.  By the end I'd say 30 percent of the people had left, which sucks for them as they missed great performances of Night Train and Paradise City.

From my vantage point (floor), not sure how much the crowd was digging the new songs.  I think part of the problem tonight is by the time the band got them, most people were pretty tired.

All in all, a great show.  Looking forward to Ottawa.

Cheers,

Andrew.

PS.  For those curious: the start of the GNR show the ACC was pretty full, say 90-95% sold  Bas said on the radio that 18 600 tickets were sold and it looked like it.  However, the crowd had thinned by the end.  14 people were in my group and only 8 were still around by the end.  Like I said, great show, but lasted well into the night.

Dear GN'R....please, please, please, please, please fire your soundmen. ?The sound mix tonight in Toronto was horrible...really, really horrible. ?You could hardly hear Axl at all on some songs and the rest of the time, he was buried in the mix. ?I was looking forward to this concert so much. ?The rink was packed, the band played great, the Trailer Park Boys were onstage for Bach - Bubbles sang 'Liquor and Whores' ?and ?then Bubbles introduced Bach during Guns set...Ron played O Canada, the band was extremely tight....they had amazing energy and the setlist was stellar...but my fuck, how can the soundmen be that bad. ? Seriously. ?

Just got home from the show. I have to go get my 4 hours of sleep before getting up for work, so I'll be brief. This show was phenomenal. I saw the 2002 Toronto show and 2 Hammerstein's, and I must say this was right up there with New York in terms of quality. The guitar solos were all top-notch tonight. The crowd seemed to really enjoy them as well. I was down on the floor not far from the stage, some standing around during the new songs (since a lot of people didn't know them), but they still got pretty good applause.

Bumble's solo started with "Oh Canada", then some shredding, then his full "Don't Cry". Bumble's "November Rain" end solo was unbelievable as well. He was the star of the night after Axl, IMO.

Baz looked so happy, mentioned how much he loves Toronto and the people about 10 times. Trailer Park Boys came out and sang a song in the middle of his set. He referred to a sold-out Air Canada Centre, and the place was packed. It was still pretty full even at the end. Guns came on at 11:38pm, and ended at 1:54am.

Later on, during Guns set, Axl says he's going to introduce someone. Then he says jokingly, you think you know who it is, but you don't really. He then introduces Bubbles from the Trailer Park Boys, who introduced Baz. Axl seemed to get a real kick out of the whole thing. Of course Baz joined GNR to do "My Michelle".

Very cool to hear "Used to Love Her". I would say that "Sweet Child o' Mine", Nightrain and Paradise City were the best songs of the evening. Dizzy's solo / The Blues was great as well.

Great show.

I'll tell you guys how the concert was. The concert on its own was amazing. The band sounded great and it was awesome hearing some of the new stuff live. I've been waiting for this day for good 15yrs now so for me it was a dream come true....Believe me every fiber of my body was on overload when the band came on stage....

So BELIEVE ME, I'm NOT complaining about the concert...

But if you want to hear the honest to god reaction of people around me

1- even my best friend was complaining that fuck I have to get up early in the morning. but we did stay and enjoyed it anyway

2- Pretty much everybody was sitting down by the time they got to OTGM. To a point that I was pissed at people around me

3- new songs are great. Better and Chineese are AWESOME, but honestly they need more exposure. I was in section 1 in some great seats, only a few people around me knew it and thats it. we were all kindda waiting for better. but I swear everyone else was looking at us like crazy people. Even if you were to look at the people right near the stage, not everyone was rocking out to them...... But they are fucking good for what it's worth

Before you people bash me, I almost cried when they played Knocking on Heavens..... I couldnt believe it was finally happening.... So it was an awesome night overall

Yeah, there were definitely times when you couldn't hear Axl at all. Overall it sounded great, though.

the band was mixed well...they sounded amazing, but Axl was buried....I swear I could hear the backup vocals better. ?The mix in '02 was far superior. ? It's too bad cause when he did come through, he sounded incredible

This is why I'm worried about having seats... I don't want to be standing around a bunch of people who are sitting down and/or leaving the concert.  How fucking lame!

Just got back from the show. ?Great show, the band was energetic and played great the whole night. ?No complaints there.

I was a bit disappointed at the crowd which was not as lively and into it in comparison to the crowd that was there in 2002.

I was in the seated section on the left side of the stage, and people around me were just sitting motionless with blank stares on their faces.  I can't tell if they were having a good time or not, but at least they stayed until the end.  There were pockets of people having a good time, but I felt that the 2002 crowd was a lot better.

Torontonians, I thought you knew how to rock better than that!!

At all three Florida shows I attended I felt the audience was the same way in spots. I would attribute this to age and being later on a weeknight.

No clue. I guess you are right. Ya alot of people were bitching about that and some left right after patience  and like I said Lack of proper exposure probably has something to do with it too. I swear people infront of me still thought axl is gonna come out in TO's Jersey.. well it's NOT 2002 anymore!!

i'm not complaining. i'm just wondering if they get bored.? i mean if they wanna play the same songs, couldn't they at least mix up the order.? like open w/nightrain, or put LALD in the encore...or SOMETHING.

Only people sitting in front of their computers get bored during a GNR show.

Real original.  Why don't you start saying you made up the phrase 'welcome to the jungle'.  C'mon dude.  Just cuz axl says it you don't have to rip him off word for word.

The sound guy was messing around with axl's vocals on some tracks. Kept on changing back and forth from a clean to a distortion type vocal mix.  Axl seemed anoyed with the sound guy, he walked off stage early in  one song and tommy sang the outro. For the most part the band and axl sounded excellent!! Even better than the Hamerstien 1st show!!

Well on a Friday show I'm not expecting people to be taking off half way through... I really belong in the GA floor though, sitting for a concert is NOT my thing.  Standing around people who are sitting will be a little strange...

Well then maybe they should start a little earlier.. sounds pretty simple to me

Air Canada Centre, Toronto - Nov. 15, 2006

Patience pays off - to some extent - after long wait at the ACC

By JANE STEVENSON -- Toronto Sun

Axl Rose (AP file photo)

TORONTO - Sex and rock 'n' roll were on display Wednesday night when Guns N' Roses pulled into Toronto's Air Canada Centre for the first time in four years.

As for drugs? Short of doing a urine test on Axl Rose - the last man standing from GNR's original lineup - and his seven-piece band, we'll never know for sure.

The sex part came via one of three opening acts, Suicide Girls, an "alternative" burlesque show borne out of a indie-minded porn website featuring "hot, tattooed, and pierced chicks," as one of the members explained from the stage.

The female troupe wiggled, jiggled and stripped their way through 25 minutes of recorded music by Steeler's Wheel, Led Zeppelin, The White Stripes and others, but they never really got naked - save for black pasties and g-strings.

By the time the Gunners had started - at 11:40 p.m (who else does this on a weeknight at an arena?) - the audience was more than ready to rock despite the ACC not being completely sold out.

There's definitely been some heightened anticipation about the latest GNR jaunt with the 12-years-in-the-making new album, Chinese Democracy, thought to be coming out next Tuesday. Turns out that was a very tentative release date and the disc won't likely be released before next year.

The album's delay didn't prevent Rose and his band, including longest-serving GNR member and keyboardist Dizzy Reed plus a trio of blazing guitarists Robin Finck, Richard Fortus and Ron Thal, from playing new songs like the piano-driven The Blues, the anthemic Better, and the Asian-influenced title track.

Still, the majority of the two-hour-and-15-minute set was made up of songs from a nearly 20-year-old album, GNR's 1987 monster debut, Appetite For Destruction, which has sold 20 million copies worldwide.

And it was those tunes that proved to be the evening's standouts: The exciting opener Welcome To The Jungle (complete with dry ice, explosions and firebursts), Sweet Child O' Mine, Out Ta Get Me, November Rain (featuring Rose on piano) and the rip-roaring closer Paradise City (with more explosions, firebursts, fireworks and red confetti).

Also good were the GNR Lies' classic Patience, covers of Paul McCartney's Live And Let Die and Bob Dylan's Knockin' On Heaven's Door, the Fortus-Finck guitar instrumental of Christina Aguilera's Beautiful and Thal's trippy, Jimi Hendrix-like version of O Canada.

Sadly, there were some less-than-riveting moments in between the highlights, which is a lot to bear given many people had been at the ACC for almost four hours before GNR even took the stage.

"I remember how great a crowd we had last time we played here and I thank you, I thank you," said Rose, 44, who was in decent voice for most, but not all of the songs.

At least, he proved to be an energetic sprinter and dancer.

Meanwhile, opener (and Peterborough's own) Sebastian Bach of Skid Row fame joined Rose for an iffy duet on My Michelle after an introduction by The Trailer Park Boys' Bubbles.

During his earlier 40-minute set, Bach dropped the F-bomb as often as the Suicide Girls dropped their gear. He also went down memory lane dredging up now-gone Toronto nightspots like Larry's Hideaway - the site of his first ever rock concert - and The Gasworks.

"Toronto, you're responsible for Sebastian Bach," he screamed. "It's all your f---in' fault!"

Not even an appearance by all of the Trailer Park Boys during's Bach's set could erase those haunting words, but at least the trio's rendition of Liquor & Whores was a welcome distraction.

Otherwise, plucky Toronto thrash trio Die Mannequin delivered a spirited if messy half-hour opening set with the singer-guitarist making mad forays into the crowd.

Kind of surprised at all the people ranting about people being tired at nearly 2AM. ?I realize this is a internet board and therefore probably overly populated by net kiddies but you've got to realize that people who were teenagers when appetite came out are now in their mid 30's with jobs and families. ?

A lot of people started leaving a little before 1:30 so that they could catch the last trains home... I am glad that I decided to drive instead of relying on public transit knowing that the show would probably run too late and I wasn't going to fucking leave early for no one.

Some poor bastard in front of me was owned by his girl friend, while waiting for GNR to come on she was bitching that it was getting too late and that she wanted to go home.  They faught for a bit and they ended up leaving before GNR even got on stage.  I would have sent that chick packin' if it were my girl.

? conclusion? it was an amazing concert...simple as that. The band was in excellent form; every single one of them was visibly laughing and enjoying themselves (Axl was smiling for the first couple of songs, etc).
?
? Of course all that changed throughout the show, since Torotonian concert-goers feel it's the band's privilege to be there, so they just sit back, have a beer, and enjoy the show (go to any rock concert at the Molson AMphitheatre and you'll see what i mean...people talk during concerts, stroll in-out like there's a tribute band playing)...

? ?The sound-mix to me sounded fine (Axl WAS completely drowned out during some songs, that's true...) and Axl's voice was impecable throughout the night.

? ?Crowd reaction to new songs was fairly good, although I did feel it myself that the momentum died down until OTGM came on so maybe that accounted a bit for it.

? ?As for the band coming on late...give it a rest. I looked around me in the ACC, and saw the place packed in the stands...all this for a band that IS a fairly new band (formation-wise), has NO album out, has made NO public releases, and has had a next-to-HORRIBLE past concert history (I'm referring to the odd 2002 TO concert).

? ?Die-hard/casual fans...whatever you want to call them...People DON'T care about little things like set-lists and start-times. Ask yourself when was the last time GNR came on early at concerts (people still bitch, but they come anyway...love the hypocrisy)? I understand that some people are complaining, and probably have a valid point about them coming on late; what I want to say is that it's always been like this, it won't change because of a couple of 10s of people that leave early.
? ?And as for the setlist...it's not Much-On-Demand...you don't like it, move on. GNR isn't alienating anybody since I saw enough people there aside from me with Hammersteing shirts, and they didn't care either. If you REALLY want to pander to the audience, take out the new songs and give them more UYI or AFD songs. (I'm not for it, just proving that all this complaining is absurd).

The only thing to bitch about was the Trailer Park Boys inclusion of Bubbles in the GNR set...personally I had enough of the weak, mediocrity-endorsing white-trash show, and seeing them in Baz's act was painful as hell.
It's slightly pathetic when among the FEW media/entretainment exports Canada has, our ambassadors for a GNR show are Bubbles and Co. Horrid...just horrid.

? Enough bitching from me...I loved the concert, although I was afraid that I was going to be bored from seeing a similar show in NY back in May. My girlfriend (her first GNR concert) LOVED it as well, and neither of us felt tired, blah blah blah...THANK YOU GNR for giving TO an amazing night of music !!

? ?:peace:

p.s. does anybody have any pics from the show?

Well fellow Gunners, it's 10 am here in the States, and I got about four hours of sleep.? No way I'm going to class today (Uncle Axl better have that absence note ready for me!? ;D)

Anyway, it was a great show.? I'll be honest that I am not really familiar with Sebastian's music or Skid Row, but I was very impressed.? That motherfucker can sing!? And he is also great with the crowd.? Seemed like he had a great time (although I think the "This is the greatest night of my life" comment was far fetched).

Suicide Girls....eh...what I expected.? Not gonna waste my time commenting.? Freaky girls, especially the one with the black braids.?

As for our Gunners, they put on a great show.? Axl definitely is captivating as a frontman.? It just felt like it was something special to be in the same building as Axl Rose.? Seemed like he had a good time, other than when he told Ron to not play too loud while some people seemed bored.? Yeah, there were times when you couldn't hear him very well, but when you could he sounded good.?

All of the comments that people have made since the first show at Hammerstein about Robin are definitely true.? That guy plays his ass off, and the crowd seemed to really like him.? I really dig his new look this year, and puts out a lot of energy.?

I read in people's reviews on other shows about Frank trying to get the crowd to chant "Guns N' Roses," and I thought that would have been cool, but the crowd didn't really play along tonight (I think he tried a few too many times, in my opinion).? As far as his drumming, I thought he was very good.

The solos do really kill momentum, like most on here have said before.? I don't think Ron needs to play the entire version of Don't Cry.?

Yeah, the crowd really didn't know how to react to the new songs (of course).? I remember someone saying something in one of their reviews about feeling awkward singing along to the new songs and no one else knows the words.? That's how I felt. But they all sounded great.? I REALLY liked Chinese Democracy.? The video on the screens was really cool too.

To be there, seeing my favorite band for the first time, was definitely very surreal.? I just wish sometimes I didn't read the forums.? Knowing pretty much the order of the setlist, when pyro's gonna go off, the solos, where Beta and Merck stand on the side of the stage, Sebastian singing with Axl on My Michelle, kinda spoiled it for me in many ways.? I've watched WAYYYYY too much Youtube and Rock AM Ring. lol

Okay, I think I've covered all of the bases.? Great show.? Very memorable night.? Had an awesome time.? But please, stop smoking at the shows!? Drives me nuts!? Can't friggin breathe while I'm singing along to IRS!? :hihi:

I know.. if your too tired then call in sick.

I know, as a professional with a CAREER, that's sort of a tough stance to make.  I understand when you're young, working at Best Buy or some other retail giant, you can be that glib with your job and employment.  When you're in your 30's, with a family to support, mortgage to pay, and a career to further...that option becomes a hell of a lot harder to take.

Now, I do agree: If you're going to a GnR concert...and it's during the week..there should be  a certain expectation of being out late. So you either man up and deal with it when the AM comes or you make plans to take vacation time the next day. And if neither of those options is available...don't go.  But don't complain about it...

they sang mustard and bologne (edit: apparently it's called Liquor & Whores) with bubbles on acoustic guitar and singing with baz the other 2 jsut walked around stage and drank whiskey :hihi: also bubbles came out again and introduced baz for my michelle..i'll post a review later and a couple pics but unfortunately most of my pics didn't turn out...i also met Jarmo, Adz and Tonya_Ytzerman (hope i spelled that right Tonya :P ) that was cool

I'm not going to do a full review (will do that later this weekend since I have another show to hit) but some thoughts/comments:

Suicide Girls were great, so much better than, say, Mix Master Mike. The Hulla-hoop girl and Resivoir Dogs performances especially.

Bach well... that seemed so 80s. Leather chaps and all. Not my thing, except for the Trailer Park Boys.

I missed Die Mannequin, too bad, I actually wanted to check em out.

GNR:

Show was packed, and I hear 18,000, which wouldn't surprise me. There were 15,000 in 2002 but that floor had seats, this was GA standing so you get more folks on the floor. Even the private boxes were packed this time.

The wait was NOT long even though the band started at around 11:50. There was only 40 mins till GNR, which is average.

Place was jumping for the first few songs.

I loved Finck's solo, and I hate solos usually. They hand Frank on drums for part of it so it sounded more like a jam/song.

Better got a very good reception, people on the floor (where I was) cheered when it came on. IRS and Chinese Democracy got ok receptions. People seemed indifferent to The Blues, except for Axl's scream.

Knockin' On Heaven's Door got great reaction.

Patience - didn't like what they did with that one.

Wish we could have heard Down on the Farm since they've played it recently.

Axl is still fighting that cold.

People are saying the crowd had thinned towards the end, I was in the pit about 5 people back, actually it seemed most people stayed, I'd say about 5-10% had left between Nighttrain and the encore, and those were the back 300s. It was still pretty packed right till the end, and that was about 2am.

Overall a good show, here's the thing:

The band was tighter than in 2002. Definitely more of a band. Great chemistry, Finck really shone, so did Bumble, Fortus I like but he didn't get a lot of time. Drop a solo, just one, and add a song or two, and this band will own. Most people loved it, however, they don't have the anticipation of 2002 - we've seen most of this before. I really wish they would drop an AFD song and play another new song. Even Madagascar, I really wish they had pulled that out.

Axl was very genuine tonight, thanking the crowd for the great turnout, joking before Bfoot's solo (don't play too loud, the people at the side are trying to take a nap - typical "polite" toronto crowd, we get the same shit at leaf games), messing around before Bubbles came on state.

Overall, I think most people went home tired but happy.  :peace:

A couple things to add:

Frank rocks on drums. I like this guy a got. He got the crowd going between songs, hitting the bass drum and getting people to chant "Guns N' Roses" and pumping his fist. The guy seems to be loving this gig, and who can blame him. He's making the most of this opportunity.

A big FUCK YOU to the asshole drunken 40somethings who started a scrap in front of me. How fucking lame to see two old farts drunkenly swinging. I don't care what started it, you're both assholes, stay home. This seems to be a trend in Toronto, happened to me at a Manson show years ago as well. A bunch of drunken no lifes will get tickets cuz they have nothing better to do than waste people's time. They don't care about the show, they just want to fuck around. Well, piss off. Had there not been a cop around you probably both would have got dropped by pissed off people around you. Fucking sad.

There was NO search at this show, I should have brought my camera :P

i'm not trying to be mean to the band or whatever, cause they are doing their own thing and thats cool.  But honestly, don't they get bored of playing the same setlist, in the same order, over and over and over again...its been like 6 yrs they've been playing pretty much the same setlist.  I don't know how they do it.
dude, go see like U2, Motley crue, Velvet Revolver, Metallica, Aerosmith, and numerous other bands and youll see that their set list doesnt vary too much either, they pretty  much always play their superhits, then a few fan favs and like 1 or 2 options, its not that uncommon.

GNR:
Even Madagascar, I really wish they had pulled that out.

Me too. That's one of my favourite songs and I was really hoping they would play it. I even told my big brother how much it sucked to not get to hear it live for the first time.

Still had an awesome time though!!!!!

-You're right.  In fact, I saw 4 shows curing the '92 on the Gn'R/Metallica tour.  I lost a lot of respect for Metallica when they played the same setlist (in the same order), AND said the same things to the crowd in-between songs!!  That was pretty weak.

I was about 15 people back, was one of the guys a bald guy, cause there was two older guys jawing for a while in front of me. ?It was pretty sad, but for the rest it was an awesome crowd

Yeah, I was REALLY hoping to hear Madagascar.  I thought they were going to, but they went into Paradise City.

It sounds like those people who were in the front of the floor near the stage had a much better time.  Shoulda got there earlier  :crying:

I was at the toronto show last night I think is was pretty good. I was right up at front and I cought 2 water bottles
that Robin threw. I think Axl sounded great and the band seemed tight. It was my first GN'R concert.

This show was absolutely, fucking insane! ;D

Seriously, this show is right up there with May 12th at the Hammerstein Ballroom for me.

The band have improved so much since May, it's truly unreal.

The whole band was on fire the whole way through, while the crowd was absolutely crazy up until Id say "Beautiful."

Easily the greatest version of The Blues Ive ever heard, IRS was as insane as ever, amazing KOHD sing-a-long, while the crowd were also surprisingly right into "Better"  ;D

Oh yeah, Frank was an absolute powerhouse behind the drumkit! Brain is yet to "WOW" me to quite that extent : ok:

& also, it was fuckin' sick meeting Gunsguy and his family at the show...had a great time gettin' fucked up with you guys, as well as loosing my voice from screaming the words out so loud ;D

I wont post a long review cause I agree with everyone who said the show rocked...Suicide Girls are a great opening act IMO....Bach was pretty good...Trailer Park Boys was a HUGE suprise...Bubbles is hilarious....Crowd went INSANE when Jungle hit.....Singalong for Knocking On Heavens Door on the 4th and last time Axl said I know you have been holding back and so have I so lets givbe it our all....And wow man he fucking screamed it....Unreal...I cant eevn describe it..Was insane..

Axl had a cold you could see him kept going and blowing his nose lol.....During Better you could see Beta to the side rocking out...She looks so proud of Axl...Crowd was not as hot as i hoped...Aklot of ppl started leaving around Bumbles solo...And you couldnt hear anyone singing Dont Cry...But I love at the end of Patience when hes running....I think Madagascar would have been better in place of Chinese Democracy...Axl wasnt very talkitivie

This I've gotta say and I want everyone to read:
The band was having a fucking blast up there on stage...For anyone who wants to know if there all having fun, i seen someone post a few weeks ago on ehre if Tommy was having fun...The entire band was having a fucking blast man..All laughing,smiling,talking..Was magical...Better may have been the highlight...Great tune

did anyone pick up on whas song Dizzy was playing for his solo? my guess is Neil Young - Heart Of Gold...correct?

Someone on a Pearl Jam board that was there mentioned that it was Like A Hurricane.

Axl grinds it out
Nov. 17, 2006. 06:03 AM
BEN RAYNER

Well, it?s still not Guns N? Roses ? I?m not looking for an argument here, it just isn?t ? but there?s hope for Axl yet.
Yes, Rose is on the second GNR tour undertaken without a single other member of the original Guns N? Roses and named for a non-existent, 13-years-in-the-making album that will soon beg immortalization in its own Samuel Beckett play.

Yet, while the man?s famous yowl proved only a slightly less dubious instrument at the Air Canada Centre on Wednesday night than on the first Chinese Democracy tour stop in Toronto four years ago, Axl himself seemed more fit, at ease and prepared to reclaim the spotlight than the guy who blew out the last GNR ?comeback? after a handful of troubled dates in late 2002. This was much less about transparent, ?something to prove? effort; it felt like Rose, who gathered strength in vocal and stage presence as the evening ? or morning, given the typically late start ? wore on, has become a little more cognizant and appreciative of the enviable position he holds.

He might as well suck up his insecurities and throw another record out there. Obviously, the fans ? many of whom, if the ACC crowd was any indication, are too young to care about the absence of names like Izzy, Slash and Duff from the roster ? are happy to scoop up an arena?s worth of tickets, put up with Papa Roach and Sebastian Bach as opening acts and then sit around, without alcohol service or much in the way of human rights, until the wee hours for a chance to hear Rose and a bunch of hired hands perform half of 1987?s Appetite for Destruction.

That?s what we were there for, though, wasn?t it? Even with the wobbly vocals and the odd sight of a seven-piece ?revue? band surrounded by stacks of expensive gear studiously conjuring the slapdash, amphetamized raunch of the early Gunners, it was easy for the enduring power of ?Welcome To The Jungle,? ?It?s So Easy,? ?Out Ta Get Me? and the magnificent ?Sweet Child O? Mine? to come through.

Although it felt a little half-formed the last time out, the new band ? which includes Use Your Illusion-era GNR addition Dizzy Reed, former Replacements bassist Tommy Stinson and a troika of showboating guitarists: Richard Fortus, new addition Ron ?Bumblefoot? Thal and ex-Nine Inch Nails sideman Robin Finck ? can do authentically out-of-control (?You Could Be Mine? was fierce) and Vegas flashy (Wings? ?Live And Let Die,? ?November Rain?) with equal aplomb. We didn?t need all the solo spots that completely derailed the pacing every time Axl left the stage to change his shirt or rest his voice, but they are indeed pro players.

And wouldn?t you know it? There was actually one solid new number, a low-slung, riff-adelic groove-rocker called ?Better,? that offered our first, faint hope that Chinese Democracy, should it ever see the light of day, might not be a disaster. Fingers crossed, Axl, ?cause our patience is wearing thin.

Ok, so i finally have some time to give alittle review from last night's concert

First, i gotta say sorry for not showing up to the Pre-show party. I was really interested in meeting some of you guys, but my cousin lives in TO, so we just decided to pre drink at her appartment then head to the show.

ok, on to the show

We got to the arena at about 7:45pm, and got to our seats just in time to see Die Mannequin. They weren't what i expected, but thats a good thing! From the way they dressed, i was expecting an Emo band, but they really werent that bad. They had a good vibe on stage, and i thought it was really cool of the chick to go into the crowd while she was doing a solo...not bad, not bad at all

The Suicide Girls are a different story. They were cool for about 5 minutes, then it just got completely pathetic....and thats comming from a 19 year old heterosexual guy. Id rather just go to a strip club. They played one good song, Immigrant Song, and that was the hightlight of their act for me. We actually left about halway through their act to go buy a t-shirt and some beers...effin' $6.50 for a small beer!

Next was Sebastian Bach, and i thought he was awesome! I really regret not downloading any of his song so i could atleast know what songs he was playing, but i still enjoyed listening to him, he's crazy up there! I also couldnt believe that the Trailer Park Boys showed up! I love that show! I don't know the name of the song Bubbles sang, but that was very cool.

Finally, the whole reason i went to this show....Guns N' Roses! And honestly, i cant find the words to explain how amazing they were. Axl was in a real good mood, and the band sounded great! There's really no reason for me the say anymore, i'd pretty much just be saying the same thing that was said in the other reviews on this board...but none the less, great fucking show!

It also looked like i saw Beta stomping her feet, and clapping her hands off to the side of the stage during Better, aahahaha

My highlights from the show:
-the way Robin snuck out to the front of the stage when he was playing the opening riffs to jungle...i dont knwo why, but i found that pretty sweet
-Axl's stage presence
-all the new songs sounded great, better is a great live song!
-Ron playing O' Canada and how most of the crowd stood up like he was playing it at the start of a Leafs game
-Trailer Park Boys showing up, and Axl bringing out Bubbles to introduce Baz
-November Rain, Nightrain, Paradise City

My dissapointments from the show:
-the crazy idiot my cousin had to sit beside, thank god his friend switched seats with him
-the lack of Axl Rants
-No Rocket Queen or Madagascar
-Patience didnt sound too hot
-the fact that it seemed like i was the only one in section that knew any of the newer songs. they all gave me weird looks when i was singing the words to Better, IRS, and The Blues
- also, i kinda found the crowd..."flat" compared to the 2002 show..i mean, it was still a great crowd, but during some of the songs, it was somewhat quiet, and i didnt hear many people, atleast around my area, singing Don't Cry

Anyways, it was a great show, and next time they're in Toronto, ill definately be going again!

I also found it was quite fitting that it was raining after the show...you know....it's november?  :o
