Post by: spaghetti_incident on February 15, 2007, 10:40:07 AM
This thread is for fun while waiting for some real news on CD.

I'll start with the thread about GNR playing at Coyotes Bar in Atlanta in 2005.? This rumor was so incredibly dumb that it reached over 40 pages at other boards.? Some poster even said he saw GNR tour buses at Coyotes and even after management denied it, people still said it would happen.

Let's see...

Someone photoshopping Chinese Democracy on iTunes.  That looked so real!

The rumor about GN'R being at some Virgin Megastore doing an autograph signing on the day of the release of the album.  I think someone even made a fake flyer telling employees to be quiet.

Someone claiming to see Chinese Democracy in Walmart.  Even took a "picture" of the album cover.

I think the guy who photoshopped a printscreen of gnr.com was very funny! Everyone laughed at the bad photoshopping and the guy still tried to convince everyone it was true.

Then I also think it was funny when a new guy on the forum posted that a guy in his town who owned a cd-store had told him that it were going to be released a week later and everyone at this forum said "Come on, stop writing this shit, we know its not true" and the guy said "Ok you will see next tuesday". After that I dont think we have heard from the guy :)

This fat kid met Axl in a bar and somehow ended up outside the bar with Axl and at Axl's car. Axl let the fat kid listen to Chinese democracy but yet the fat kid couldnt remember one single lyric.

The one off the top of my head would be Axl and Pink doing a cover of "Total Eclipse of the Heart". :hihi:

There are quite a few others, "My Favorite Pillow" comes to mind as well.

I remember one too but it was actually a scam.

It was a concert overseas at an airport hangar or something and they even went as far as selling illegal tickets and such.

But due to some dilligent people on here, GNR management were notified of the scam and it was busted.

Trying to find the thread/link on it.

Danny and his magical fax machine where top secret gn'r documents often would appear.

All the guys that 'had' the album but never knew how to upload it.

Checking the source code of gnr.com to see if there were any updates in the pipeline.

That Axl had decided to quit the music business and become a munk.

Gnfr.com riddle site  probably holds the title for most dumb.

People believed that any updates with GNR would happen when this site updated

That's my favorite.  Still waiting on the Doll Parton/Axl duet.

The email I sent out with the song lyrics was pretty funny (and insanely simple).  It also got me banned from here for a while and almost got me fired from my job.

First one that comes to mind was people thinking Slash was the "surprise" guitarist for the 2006 shows.  Never did understand the logic/reasoning behind that one.  But of course the rumor probably originated from the same group of people who can't begin to imagine or fathom how the recent Robin pic could possibly ever remind anyone of Slash.

Go figure.

The legendary "magic fax machine" thing happened a few years ago.  There wasn't alot of GNR news going out there and nobody really had anything interesting to say on the board (sort of like now).  So, I JOKINGLY started making outlandish predictions and claiming that I had inside info.  One of the first ones was that GNR would be playing the VMA's...and that one happened to come true.  A few people around here started to beleive that I really knew what I was talking about.  I then concocted the theory that I had a fax machine and I would daily get insider faxes with news about the band.  I just so happened to be one of the first people to find out that MixMasterMike was going to be opening for GNR at that time, so I reported it as info I got from my fax machine.  My predictions then got (in my opinion, pretty obviously) outlandish (aka:Dolly Parton doing a duet with Axl and a song titled "Fiona Asshole") and people got mad.  Then, at one point I sent some made-up lyrics to a handfull of random posters her via email.  Some people thought they were real and got excited.  When they found me out, I happened to be checking into the board while on a break at work.  Someone figured out the IP address and figured out where I work, and called the company I work for complaining about me.  It was all pretty pathetic, actually.

That last bit is not entirely true (though it may be what Danny thinks happened)....since I was onboard with some of the IP sleuthing.

We tracked the IP WHERE THE EMAIL CONTAINING THE LYRICS ORIGINATED FROM (we couldn't see where danny was browsing the board from...nobody but jarmo can do that) and then "someone" contacted the webmaster of the domain (Danny's work...which I won't mention so as not to stir up the shit again) trying to get more information on who the specific IP belonged to.  We didn't know, at that point, who had actually come up with the lyrics and so "someone" was trying to find out.

In the meantime, it was discovered, through Danny's own Message board, that he was the faker (he even posted the hotmail addy and password to get to it).  THEN the webmaster of the domain, obviously displeased to discover one of the employees using facilities for something not "work related" contacted the "someone" previously mentioned, and then called them,.....and that "someone" passed along what had been discovered.

Less Danny try to look the innocent in the situation, or not take responsibility for the hot water he got himself in.

Depends on who you believe.

It was either a crooked promoter out of Chicago (if you believe the owner of the club) who conned the owner.

Or it was the owner of the club (if you choose NOT to believe him), who was looking for a payday.

Oh yeah.  I wasn't trying to decieve anyone or anything, I just didn't remember the incedent as much as you did, apparently.  But yeah, I did alot of this stuff while on breaks at work and I did talk about it a bit on my "now defunct" message board.  I thought it was kind of funny...and at the time, it was.  Looks like some people still are upset about the whole thing.  What was it, 3 years ago?  Whatever.  I did feel bad about it.  I really didn't think that people would take it so seriously, but I guess they did and I guess I misjudged what people found important in life.  My bad.

And for the record, I never was contacted by anyone from the company I work for about the incedent.

Not upset at all, just wanted to make sure the record is straight.

As for funny...I think your banning because of it shows how funny most people thought it was.  I think you aptly used the word pathetic, before. The "magic fax machine" was much more amusing, IMHO.

On why you were never contacted by anyone you work with.....I'm not surprised, but then again, it seems I know more of the specifics of what went on during and after the "sleuthing" (and when you found out about it) than you do.

As for "misjudging what people find important in life"...well, we'll leave it at this:  I venture it took us less time to track your IP, and for "someone" to contact the webmaster in question, than it took for you to put together this:

I.R.S.

You took it from me, so I took it from you.
You showered me with hate, so my hatred grew.
I came and came and followed.
You took it all inside
Bit down hard and swallowed.
Took away my pride.

Ooooo Ooooo

Ooooo Ooooo

It all began slowly, started like a dream.
It turned into a nightmare, flowing down a stream.
I shot again and dodged you.
I looked into your eyes.
I've given so much to you.
You never seem to die.
I hated more to spite you.
You lapped it up again.
Lost the way to right you.
I proved I will not bend.
I came and came and followed.
You took it all in stride.
Bit down hard and swallowed.
Took away my pride.

Ooooo Ooooo
Ooooo Ooooo

You took it from me, so I took it from you.
You showered me with hate, so my hatred grew.
I came and came and followed.
You took it all inside
Bit down hard and swallowed.
Took away my pride.

And so I throw it all away.

You're right though...they are awful.    ;D   : ok:

.  I really didn't think that people would take it so seriously, but I guess they did and I guess I misjudged what people found important in life.  My bad.

When it comes to GNR, people take everything seriously. There isn't anything in the world that was utter enough bullshit not to be considerd as a potential rumor by some desperate CD horny GNR fan. :)
It's easy to understand, considering GNR hasn't released anything since 1957 or so. The fact that Axl(not to mention other members) never, ever, ever  give any valid information themselves doesn't exactly help .So obviously fans feel a huge urge to somehow try to fill this void.

Few weeks ago there was this random shitty GNR  rumor thread here that had gone off topic ages ago. Just to entertain myself a little bit, i posted some truly absurd utter bullshit there.Something like:
" I have been on this board very long time so i don't lie. Something amazing is happening soon want proof? check this e-mail i got!"
*insert a screenshot from an ordinary wordpad file that has "sssshh, it is a secret - Axl"written on it.*
Theen, filled the entire post with some between the lines -stuff that really, really should have mae it clear that I am bullshitting.

But well, what do ya know, few people somehow manage to take it seriously, and i even get a PM from some dude who's asking if i know when CD is coming out:p Few hours later the thread gets deleted.

Moral of the story being, never underestimate the potential creativity and optimism of a desperate, news-horny mind.

i must have forgotten or i just dunno what GNFR.com was? ???

Looking at your registration date, you were about 2 years too late. :)

It happened back in '02.  There was a site with a series of riddles and shit that purported to be linked to GnR.  It was very odd.

A close second to that would be the Latigo Hammers "situation".

I guess it started in 2002, but it went on a lot longer than that.

This GNFR site would be updated with riddles and some people on this board as well as others started solving them.

Then Darknemus would be there hinting that it might be GN'R related, even after management said it wasn't. He'd post things like "I was poking around the GNFR.com site and it looks lie something's going on". Then magically a new riddle would appear.

The domain name had a fake WHOIS record, because it used the same address as gunsnroses.com did at the time. But the name was changed.

When we finally decided to pull the plug on advertising that fake site, Darknemus got really annoyed.

Along with that, he also claimed that Axl himself was in their GNFR Riddles MSN chatroom. It turned out to be a person in Finland and a cease & desist (http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/news/shownews.php?newsid=655) letter was issued by the lawfirm representing Axl.

Darknemus had all kinds of explanations on why Axl didn't know lyrics to his own songs, why his computer had a Finnish setup etc etc.

The most amusing one was that Axl bought his laptop used from Mike Monroe.

Eventually people woke up and realized it was all a game by people who had way too much free time.

Quote

HA!  I can't believe that someone still has that saved!

HA!  I can't believe that someone still has that saved!

I'm a packrat...I never clean out my email box OR my PM box.....I've both going back to at least '02 (7000+ work emails (last time I checked), 1000+ emails in my personal box, and 27 pages of PM's...jarmo's probably going to start charging me for the PM space).

:)

See, being an unorganized mess can help sometimes!

Funniest rumour i've heard I think is that GN'R were waiting back in the summer until 06/06/06 to release the album...

Every GN'R date has to have some relevance to GNR's past or to a superstition or something like that, it can't just be any given date.

The whole I heard this on the radio thing. Everybody comes to a forum saying they heard this or that or another thing from a dj on some obscure radio station, wasn't there one is alaska or canada that was playing the first single a couple months ago?? :hihi: And lots of people say they don't belive, so the guy posts the phone-number or email or website of said radio station and everybody floods it. Than you have some people come back and give the bs they suposedly got from the dj or email or whatever and people believe for a little longer. Every rumor that gets posted on here or any other forum is funny in its own way. ?:smoking:

I guess without putting much thought into it, one of my favorite "rumor" or whatever you may want to call it, times would have to be early this past December.

It seemed as though everybody had a friend who was a manager at Best Buy, who told them, that they were told, to expect a "surprise shipment" on blah..blah..blah Tuesday.

That shit was pretty stupid. That sux to say, I believed it also for a week or two.   :-\

My new favorite is the one where the new members of GNR told Steven Adler that they thought a reunion with the old members of GNR would be a great idea.

Or the one where Axl and Steven talked all night long until 8 in the morning even though Steven makes Stuttering John sound like Patrick Stewart.

Who was the suck a dick for coke asshole who started these?

This thread is for fun while waiting for some real news on CD.

I'll start with the thread about GNR playing at Coyotes Bar in Atlanta in 2005.? This rumor was so incredibly dumb that it reached over 40 pages at other boards.? Some poster even said he saw GNR tour buses at Coyotes and even after management denied it, people still said it would happen.

http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/board/index.php?topic=19881.msg338624#msg338624

DID ANYONE EVER FIND OUT WHO STARTED THAT FUCKED UP RUMOR ?? ?

No. ?But I remember a poster who lived in Atlanta was being the 'spokesperson' for the whole event and I think it was that poster who said he saw tour buses? ?Not really sure but it escalated to so many pages on a lot of boards and it was all bullshit

I WAS THERE! ?NO TOUR BUSES! ?A WRECK OF A VAN WITH YELLOW PLASTIC POLICE "DO NOT ENTER" SHIT AROUND IT. ?THEY GAVE OUT CONTRACTS SAYING THAT IF AXL DID NOT SHOW THE CLUB WAS NOT RESPONSIBLE. ?A PRETTY FUCKED UP SCAM SEEING I DROVE 2 DAYS TO GET THERE. ?

SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER ANYWAY! ?MY OWN FAULT ?:P

HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN UPSTAIRS IN THE VIP SECTION THOU...SOMEONE HINTED?

He was waiter in some restaurant and claimed Axl had eaten there and he'd given him loads of CD info, he strung people along for a while until mysteron busted him

YES!

Ivan's fantasy story was my favorite dumb moment, hands down. He really had a lot of us going, and it was so stupid - Something like Axl asking him "Do you believe in Santa, Ivan?" in regards to CD coming for Christmas.

I might be mistaken, but wasn't it total fan dreaming/fiction that got passed off as reality because his grasp of the English language was... well, not great?

Good times there. Then it all came crashing down when Merck told everyone that Axl hadn't been to Argentina in years.  :hihi:

Good times there. Then it all came crashing down when Merck told everyone that Axl hadn't been to Argentina in years.? :hihi:

It makes for some funny reading  :hihi:

That's my favorite.  Still waiting on the Doll Parton/Axl duet.

The email I sent out with the song lyrics was pretty funny (and insanely simple).  It also got me banned from here for a while and almost got me fired from my job.

What was the story about the fax machine? And why did you almost got fired?

It was all pretty pathetic, actually.

my favorite ones are the ones that happened in just under a year ago like when Slash said it would be out in may of '06 then it was said to be out in june i think then Axl came out and said some time in the fall. THEN it was said to be out within the next "13 remaining weeks" in the year of 2006 then the one where it was said to be out the 26th or the week before that or the WEek bEFOre THAT

to be honest i hate this thread it really only points out our stupidity that we believed Axl all those times and yet nothing. I believe that it will come out but Goddamn enough is enough. 15 years is too long, i dont wanna say that i'm starting to becomes a doubter/basher/hater but i'm just having...........anger, dificulty, confusion  like i dont know ya know?

its wierd i know but i thought it was funny about how that one guy  claimed Axl told him a whole bunch of shit about CHINESE DEMOCRACY and that one that said he saw tour buses and the one that saw them at a piss ant little bar  thats just retarded but funny i thought

Good lord the memories. My favorites were always:

-Axl and Lionel Richie were doing a duet of "Ebony and Ivory" I believe it was supposed to be
-The band filmed a baseball-themed video for "Catcher in the Rye" in China
-Axl and Alanis Morrisette were doing a duet for the 'Lord of the Rings' soundtrack
-Axl and Pink doing 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' for Wes Cravens 'Cursed' and Pink's "comments" that listening to the new album was like the first time hearing "Jungle"
-The album hasn't come out because they couldn't get J.D. Salinger's approval to use "Catcher in the Rye"

The one thing that killed me was this guy (can't remember what forum) said he'd recieved a finished copy of the album, listened to it, then threw it away because it was "garbage, the worst album I've ever heard". Maybe that was over at VelvetRope...

Wouldn't surprise me. Salinger's more of a recluse than Axl.

rumors i remember...

- Axl Rose stopped making music because he had HIV
- last year some photographer said he had taken pictures of the original line-up of the band and they would all be touring together during the summer.
- Axl Rose was going to be a judge on American Idol
- Axl Rose was going to play a Terminator in Terminator 3
- Axl Rose was going to play the Devil in End of Days
- Axl Rose was going to run alongside Arnold as an State Assessor or something
- GNR was going to play a Monday or Sunday night Football game this season.

There was definately a lot of BS that went with the rumour, such as the message in the Virgin staff room regarding a GNR performance, that was proved to be bollocks. But I think a special performance was on the cards in Chicago, possibly to promote the albums release, but when it became clear CD wouldn't be out by then they decided to maybe go along with the show anyway as a one off special performance. Check the show after Chicago, cancelled due to illness, I seem to remember shortly after the cancellation Axl saying he was dissappointed at having to cancel etc but also saying it had prevented them from doing a second (possibly acoustic) show after the main Chicago show. I can't seem to find a quote to support this but I'm sure I've read it.

Basically I think the secret Chicago performance rumour might well have been legit.

Edit - Here it is, proof a surprise show was planned, it just doesn't say where.

The Guns N' Roses concert scheduled for Milwaukee's Bradley Center tonight has been cancelled due to illness. Guns N' Roses front man Axl Rose is suffering from an ear infection and strep throat. Rose was first diagnosed with the ear infection on the 20th of November in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was seen again by a doctor last night following the band's show in Chicago and ordered to rest for a few days. The tour will continue as scheduled Friday night in Ames, Iowa at Hilton Coliseum.

Axl Rose commented, "We had a great show in Chicago tonight and had hoped to do a surprise acoustic show afterwards. I have been fighting this off for a long time but the doctor told me tonight that the only way not to jeopardise the balance of the tour is immediate rest. We will now have 3 days off before continuing Friday. We are sorry to miss the fans in Milwaukee."

I don't think anyone was dumb enough to believe that but..

"an insider said axl kicked out all other members" and entered the priesthood.

Seemingly this bs has been recycled many many times with the latter part altered.

GNR fans are so original.

Oh theres so many

I think one of the worst ones was the fake Hungary concert in 2003 or 04. Lots of tickets were sold, posters put up. Even saw pictures of it. That was bad.

I always love the fake track listings, especially the one where the first song is called "Welcome back to the jungle".

When IRS was first played on the Trunk show, some people refused to accept the possibility that it was indeed played because no recording popped up instantly. People described the song as stuff ranging from an Estranged type of thing to Welcome to the jungleish. I tried over and over again to explain why the song was played and reasons why the song hadnt appeared at any sites, but in the end I just gave up. I was proven right in the end though.

The club show was a bad rumour and anyone beliving it should really check their heads and think before they belive all rumours.

Another really bad one is that Silk Worms were suddenly described as "formely known as Oklahoma". There were some misunderstandings somewhere and a whole fucking lot of people thought it was the real deal.

And you got the public rumours..."Axl is fat, Axl is bald, Axl has lives with psychic women" etc....always funny.

Lionel Richie..how could I forget.

And the MP3 called "Still Rising". It actually had me going for 2 listens before I scrapped it as fake.

One guy reported during the 2002 New Years Eve shows that Buckethead wore a bucket with blood stains on it! People took it seriously at once and put it togheter with 9/11.

The first reports of the Vegas shows in 01 had songs like Civil War, Pretty tied up, Estranged and 14 Years on the set list...

Pure, StickyFinger, Latigo Hammers...

those people certainly brought a lot of joy into my message board visits. Nothing like a good laugh to sooth out the lack of any real news.

Most recent: Ross Halfin was contacted by someone via e-mail after a recent (yet another!) outrageous GNR comment on his site. Halfin's reply ("Axl's currently doing a soul album alongside CD", or something similar) was posted to Roses of Velvet.

The funniest thing about it to me was that a certain mod (who's also a regular here) seems to take it seriously, giving yet another of his opinions on Axl's state of mind based on the fact (in his mind, at least) that he's doing a soul album.

I love you, man.

7.Dave Mustaine was Buckethead
8.Axl was going to sing Live and Let Die with Paul McCartney at the Superbowl

Chinese Democracy, Russian Intrique and German Warfare
That was one of my favorite rumours- because so many fell for it- even though how it was lacking in common sense and creativity.

The BIG rumor going around that Axl played in my city (Louisville, KY), all acoustic gig on 4th street.  Telling everyone the CD was coming out and playing all new songs.  This was back in 03, and I actually believed it.  It was someone on here stating there sister worked there and heard everything called him up and he posted here with all the details.  I remember that like it was yesterday....

Sorry but, I'm not reading through seven pages of this shit so, forgive me if I'm repeating anything.

My personal favourite rumour was the one where Axl was allegedly spotted going in to a very well known GAY Gym in either Seattle or Vancouver (can't remember the city now) during the 2001 GNR tour.   :hihi:            :nervous:

The tour was in 2002...

My bad.       :-*

Just read this entire thread. Notes:

My Favorite Pillow - You know, its a lot easier ripping on someones song when that person isn't reading your insults :hihi:

I LIKE that song, FYI.  And Coy Clarke (the lead singer for Ghost Town Road.....which was the band that recorded MFP) was a stand up guy when it happened.  Came here and posted, if I remember right.  I had a conversation with him both via PM and email.  Nice guy.  Wonder where he is now?

I HAVE to track down MFP.  I know it's somewher on my home PC hard drive...I just gotta unbury it.

Man, he could've bee Mother Teresa, but that song still sucked :hihi:

Crowebar, I think that gay gym rumor was true. He didn't know it was a gay gym.

I wish I could've seen the look on 'Ole Axls face once he realized he was in a gym full of gay men!!!          :nervous:     :hihi:

I remember one too but it was actually a scam.

It was a concert overseas at an airport hangar or something and they even went as far as selling illegal tickets and such.

But due to some dilligent people on here, GNR management were notified of the scam and it was busted.

Trying to find the thread/link on it.

That was here, in Hungary...

to be honest i hate this thread it really only points out our stupidity that we believed Axl all those times and yet nothing. I believe that it will come out but Goddamn enough is enough. 15 years is too long, i dont wanna say that i'm starting to becomes a doubter/basher/hater but i'm just having...........anger, dificulty, confusion  like i dont know ya know?

It's just not that important that you should feel anger, difficulty, or confusion about it... Chill  ;)

The three albums rumor came directly from Axl's mouth, we just don't know what the names of them are....

Also, wasn't there also a rumor that Slash was secretly Buckethead.  A while back there was a picture of a guy who looked like Slash wearing a KFC bucket...

1.Axl has recorded three albums of music. One named Fire, Ice and something else.
2.All the horrible Album covers
3. How many videos have been shot over the years
4. Old band is going to appear at the concert with Metalicca.
5.I still think Axl being interviewed at the Lakers Vs Sixers Championship game was a fake.
6.Axl carries around copies of CD to play at Strip Clubs
7.Dave Mustaine was Buckethead
8.Axl was going to sing Live and Let Die with Paul McCartney at the Superbowl
9. Wasnt there 2 Duffs? during AFD
10. Of course the real old reports of Axl and Slash dying
11. Duff invested all his AFD money in Microsoft and is the richest Gunner

i heard steven adler agreed to pay back the 2-point-5 million dollars he extorted from axl in 1993 when he blamed Guns n' Roses for his drug addiction.   8)

The rumor that sticks out the most to me is that the members of GnR work on one-year contracts, and essentially re-sign with the band on a yearly basis. ? ? Conspiracy theorists could easily say that the Jan. '07 dates were cancelled because the year was up, members have yet to re-sign, etc. ?I'm not saying it's the dumbest rumor - far from it - but it's the one that I remember for some reason...

Oooh, another rumor that some are stupid enough to believe. Madison met Axl backstage in NYC in 2002, and Axl told her the name of the first single, and suposedly it was a song that's never been mentioned.

That Axl wouldn't sing until he ate a big lamb/roast dinner last summer while in Europe.

I am so sure a singer is going to eat a really big meal and then run around on stage like Axl does.

And people believed that shit. :hihi:

back in 2002 when g'nr played the pukkelpop festival in belgium, studio brussel (radio station in belgium) spread the rumor that axl was late for the gig because he was in a restaurant and won't leave before he could eat a special sort of fish. yeah right.

Well, Chokri himself (concertpromoter of Pukkelpop) actually told that on Studio Brussel, so I guess it was true.? But it wasn't at a restaurant but on the festivalsite.? Axl was allready late because his plane was delayed, they brought him, from Luik it was I think, under police-escort to the site and than he told Chokri he'd like to have this special kind of fish before going onstage.

Doug Goldstein claimed Chinese Democracy was 99% musically done and 80% vocally done in 2000 or something.  : ok:

Around the European tour, someone claimed to have inside information from Brain that Slash would join the band in the fall.

I can't remember whether this one was a rumor or just a dumb guess... Someone went to a Buckethead show in 2004/5, and claimed to have glimpsed someone peeping in from the backstage, apparently Axl. The poster mentioned the apparition was laughing.

Didn't see this mentioned yet.

Back in 2002 there was a rumor going around that GnR were on the campus of a private high school filming a video for Madagascar. I'm pretty sure a board member claimed their "daughter" or "niece" went there.
