Title: GN?R crew responds to Die Mannequin singer
Post by: Randy Jesus on March 11, 2007, 06:12:53 PM

A recent interview with the lead vocalist of the Canadian indie band Die Mannequin has managed to rub several members of the Guns N? Roses touring staff the wrong way.

Die Mannequin opened a few shows during the 2006 GN?R North American tour, and in a recent interview with Chart Magazine, the singer, known as Care Failure, described the experience this way:

"There were just so many rules about Axl!" Failure told Chart. "He used to show up 45 seconds before their set and wouldn't really hang around, so we barely saw him. Once, Tony (Useless, the Die Mannequin bassist) tried talking to him and got pinned against the wall by a guard."

GN?R stage manager Tom Mayhue offered this explanation of the events in question:

"This is how I remember it," Mayhue said. "Guns had just finished doing their two-hour set and were getting off the stage to go to their dressing rooms, and some drunk guy goes up to Axl.

"Now, no one knows who this guy is or what the hell he wants. Our head of security, Geo Gasparetti, is probably the best in the business at what he does, and he intervened. Later on, Geo went up to the guy and explained to him that what he did wasn?t too bright, and that was that.

"I mean, when Care Failure?s amp was fucked up, my crew fixed it. When their crew was late or drunk, sleeping in the dressing room at set change, our crew was there to set them up. This band was given more sound checks, extra guests, and whatever they needed from our production management, so I don?t get why she felt the need to talk shit."

Chris Gratton, GN?R?s production manager, added that there are no "rules" regarding Axl or any other member of Guns N? Roses.

"I hate it when I read or hear about things that never occurred," Gratton said. "The only rules are the ones I set in terms of the show schedule, like when the first band goes on, how long a set change is, et cetera.

"For most of the North American tour, Axl traveled in a tour bus and he would be at the gig several hours before Guns went on and watch the openers.

"Axl often had people partying in his dressing room -- I?m talking about everyone from his friends to the guys in Helmet to Sebastian Bach to the Suicide Girls -- until the wee hours in the morning.

"We had a lot of good times on that tour."

Edit: Clear subject /jarmo

Sorry about the Unclear Topic, thanks for changing it.  :peace:

because it was not fully explained about the situation

I really don't see the problem. Of course a nobody is gonna be stopped if he just rushes up to Axl, who is in fact a superstar. I'm sure that if the guy just presented himself in a calm manner and asked if he could buy Axl a beer, im sure Axl would have a little chat with him.

But she didn't lie exactly, she just told what happend from her point of view.

Exactly what I was thinking, haven't they got other more important things to clarify to us than someone crapping on about Axl? :hihi:

I cant believe they took the time to respond to .... that! wow.

I'm not complaining but it really really surprises me.

Oh well , this can only mean one thing ... yup ...

CHINESE DEMOCRACY STARTS NOW!!!

I don't think anybody really cares what people say about Axl anymore. It's the "in thing" to bash him. It's old hat. We all know enough by now that Axl is portrated negatively to get attention for wanna-bes. Axl is genuine.

Post updates about the cd. Nobody gives a fuck about this childish shit anymore. And finish the fuckin album already and set a release date.

I think alot of people like to take shots at Axl and the band, because they're a big target and they know if Axl/GNR's name is mentioned people will listen.  Good to see the official site updated too !

Agreed... The band did it to get their name on a few sites and blogs... GNR just fuel that for no aparent reason...

Unless the guy was so offended, because he helped them out so much!

Best update in a long time... Good to hear that Axl still doesnt like to be touched by idiots...

Just when I was getting down on the possibilities of the album being out this year the GNR camp steps it up and reaffirms that drunken canadian bassists better identify themselves backstage if they want to talk to Axl.

Wow that's fucking amazing man! ::)

I really don't see where the bashing is coming from. She didn't say anything out of line, at all.
I don't care who you are, if I was to get thrown up against the wall, I would have took a fucking poke at him.

Oh my....As far as I welcome ANY update on the GnR page this was absolutely a no topic. Who is interested in what an unimportant singer says about GnR security??? The GnR camp completely overreacted and by doing that they give more credibility to all the rumours about Axls security!

What its really about is somebody using Gn'R for their own gain.  Beyond the initial comment and dropping in a celebrity name, what do they have going for them - sod all.

Honestly I read that interview days ago and I don't think she said anything all that bad, she even mentioned how cool GNR's fans were and what a good time the tour was. Yeah she mentioned some security guy shoving her bandmate but from her point of view that's what happened... she didn't really take any shots or talk shit, I really dunno why the gnr site made such a big deal about this...

Cause Axl and GNR need to keep their "nicest band in the world" look...

They made a big deal about it because they're probably getting really fucking sick and tired of only reading negative shit about themselves ALL THE TIME in the press.

How would you like that?

Exactly the way I see it too. If people in the GN'R camp make such a big deal about it, when they can't even update on the album, well that's kinda sad. Especially when Care didn't say anything to slag them off.

She might not have meant it but the story was offensive to the security.
If anyone thinks those crews don't have minds or feelings of their own unlike musicians, they are mistaken.

"He used to show up 45 seconds before their set and wouldn't really hang around, so we barely saw him"

If that's how Care Failure perceived the situation, then that's up to them. Unless anyone here on HTDGTH was there, then they really shouldn't criticize Care Failure, simply bacause various members of the Guns N? Roses touring staff perceive it differently. Like wise, GN?R stage manager Tom Mayhue can have his views too.

What would really good is if the offical Gn'R site could be updated with some interesting news  :peace:

I'm sure there's an element of truth to both of those stories. It's not difficult to believe Axl showing up just minutes before a show started.

Who the fuck is Die Mannequin anyway, and why were they opening for Guns N' Roses?

I don't know this movie you are talking about and I am sorry that you didn't like my joke.
It looks like you are blind to everything that is bad about Axl's band.
It looks like you wear glasses that only allow you to see the good things.
I am sorry about that.

Unless you're being sarcastic, grow up.

I have better things to do than sit on a message board all day and respond to random internet posters. As should GNR band members and crew.

It's nice to see some activity on the website but someone saying Axl showed up late to a gig is NOT exactly trashing the band, considering his tardy arrivals are pretty common knowledge.

And even the crew's response doesn't exactly deny what happened. It's just a matter of perspective. The defensiveness is just ridiculous.

I'll take the fact that you didn't respond to me within moments of my post as meaning I'm right.

And yes, THAT was sarcasm...
