Someone should create a website that tabulates how many times every GNR song was played at concerts, and list them of course.  Song by song.  Somebody get on that.  We've had enough of a 14 year layoff that this could've been accomplished.  Anyone?  Am I the only one interested in exactly how many times the band (all lineups) have played Jungle vs. Paradise City, etc.?

it would prob be pretty easy to do.. i just started coping and pasting the 86 set lists from gnrontour.com.. then do text to columns to separate each song.. once you do that for each show.. it will be easy to tally them up.. i have no clue how to make a website.. but i could at least post that.. if anyone feels like starting with 06 and working backwards pm me.  shouldn't take too long.. but after sitting at work all day.. i don't really feel like sitting in front of a computer for another hour or 2..

www.gnrontour.com
Yeah but that doesn't tabulate exact # of times each song was played. ?If I want to search the site and count myself I might finish in 14 more years.

That would be good stuff.  I would help you out, but it's about bedtime for me.  I would thoroughly enjoy the statistics though.  Maybe break it down, do it over the next couple days just before the 2007 World tour begins.  Then add on my brotha!

If I'm not wrong, twice: one at the MSG in december 1991, and the other in Worcester, MA (same month/year)

How many times have they played the stones "dead Flowers"?

Several times back in 1993, when GNR used to do an acoustic set, including Dead Flowers, You Aint The First, You're Crazy, Used To Love Her, Patience [w/Imagine] and Knockin' On Heaven's Door [w/Ziggy Stardust]

The acoustic set in Buenos Aires 07/16 is simply brilliant

I think Heartbreak Hotel and Jumpin' Jack Flash were played a lot in their formulative days, but we only have a very few bootlegs of them playing it.  I think it's five for JJF, and three for HH, from gnrontour.  I'm sure they played it more, at concerts that weren't booted of course.

What about Ain't Goin Down, that was played once, in 1988.

U2's One and Nazareth's Fallen Angel were both used as intros to SCOM only once. A version of Grand Funk Railroad's We're An American Band was played once. Then there was Indiana Ain't My Kinda Town and Marseilles.

Apparently he'd "already got the message accross through releasing it on the album" or something.

I guess One In A Million are pretty rare, it was played at the limelight in '88 and CBGB's in '87.  Can't think of any other times.

I have it, but only done for the "old" band, so it's up to 1994.
Should make it for the 2001-2006 too in some days.

Wasn't that Get In The Ring. Its a kinda crazy reason not to play Don't Damn Me live, its a great rocker. I always thought it might be because its probably the most difficult GnR song to play, and they never bothered putting in the time to rehearse it to be able to play it live properly.

Difficult?  Ok, i'm in no position to authoritatively judge, but I'd have said songs like Estranged, or Locomotive, were significantly harder than Don't Damn Me.

I never said it was a concert, just wanted to point out that they actually have played it live. Maybe it was in front of 30 people? That is a concert if you ask me or at least a "gig"  :P

Sounds like a rehearsal not even featuring the full band....

So it's not a live concert or even a GN'R performance since parts of the band were missing.....  :P

with that logic you would think that GNR at versaces party wasn't GNR since brain or tommy wasn't there?

This will get a little out of hand if we try counting every time something is rehearsed or played behind closed doors.

You know how it works, Axl and a guitarist or two, a bassist, a drummer, some additional musicians, and you can call it GN'R.

Yeah, so three members of GN'R rehearsed in 1989 which means it was a Guns N' Roses concert.....

Since Axl appeared with the Rolling Stones in 1989, why not say it was a Guns N' Roses show then? I mean, it was Axl and some other guys on stage.....  ::)

No, no you don't get it. Since they were already in The Stones it doesn't count. There has to be a contract, and an audience. Complicated, I know. Get confused myself sometimes, who's in the band, or not.

Fundementally I agree though. DDM was never played live.

Do any of you know the name (if it has one) of the piano introduction to November Rain that Axl played in some concerts in 1993?

I am talking specifically about the piano intro he did in, for example, Hartford, CT '93

That is one of the most beautiful pieces of music GNR has ever done. But I dont know what's it, who wrote it, and the title...

Excel reall is amazing.? it won't be that hard to do the rest and just add them together..? if the guy that has the break down through 94 woudl email me what he has.. then all i need to do is the 02 tour.. which would be pretty easy.? ?it might be off by one or two.. clearly they played PC at every show.. not sure why its a few short.. there might have been an extra comma or something that messed up formula for a couple songs.. .. .. but this is pretty much the break down.

here is the break down for 86-2002.  i only used whatever was on gnrontour.com.. there were a lot of partial set lists and blank ones..  i also couldn't include all the diff intros.. some of the songs only played one time might be intros or solos.. wasnt sure so i left them on.  anyways. kinda cool to see.. i always thought estranged was pretty rare.. but they played it quite often...   too bad GNR don't have a website like pearl jam.. that site is awsome to look at old setlist, song counts ect..

Dust In The Wind - Todd Rundgren

No dude, I'm not talking about Dust In The Wind, another beautiful song by Todd Rundgreen.

I am talking about a completely instrumental song, played entirely in piano by Axl before November Rain

This is the audio of it:

What about this, taken from www.gnrontour.com:

12.06.89 - Mates Rehearsal, North Hollywood, CA
set: Don't Damn Me [#1], Don't Damn Me [#2], Garden Of Eden, Locomotive, Dust N' Bones
audio/video recording?: audio
notes: Use Your Illusion rehearsals. Duff partially sings 'Dust N' Bones.'

well, what are we talking about here? this was a closed, practice session in the studio. this was not performed live in concert. btw- this is an awesome bootleg.....

so it's with vocals?

i have one "don't damn me" live, i got this on the old kazaa a long time ago.. if anyone want to take this and make sure that this is real or not add me: matt_tb@hotmail.com

I heard a demo version of "Don't Damn Me".  I got that from Kazaa years ago I believe.  It was labeled as live, but it wasn't.  It was a demo.  Not sure if that's the same thing you got.

Axl also sang the hungarian folk song ''Tavaszi Sz?l Vizet Araszt'' at Nepstadion, in Budapest, the 22nd of may 1992.

Don't know exactly. I think it's something about not needing to sing it live, it's there on the album. Kinda like Get In The Ring.

When did they play Sway?? And does anyone have an mp3 of this?

July 29, 2006 in London along with Sailing and Back In The USSR (redone as Back In The Fucking UK). Not sure if that last one's been mentioned here yet.

Here's an mp3 of it:

I believe that Dizzy played part of the Stones' 'Angie' once (possibly more) at an '06 show.

you're not being serious, right? If Im not wrong, the link I provided has a piano solo, that has absolutly nothing to do with November Rain... its just a piano intro, like Dust In The Wind or Its Alright... or do you think that Black Sabbath's ''Its Alright'' is a ''variation on the piano bits of the song''?  ???

I got this info awhile back from a website that lists GNR songs, the meanings behind them, band members comments about them, etc.

"Don't Damn Me" was never played live by Guns N' Roses. The reason was that Axl thought it was enough to have the song on the album, and his reasons were somewhat similar as to why he doesn't want to sing "One In A Million".

Written by: "Don't Damn Me" was written by Axl, Dave Lank and Slash. The lyrics were written by Axl, while the music was written by Slash. Dave Lank's contribution is unknown.
Written in: "Don't Damn Me" was written in or before 1989.

Written about: "Don't Damn Me" was an answer to those who disagreed with Axl.

The website I got this from has since changed web addresses.  I was able to track it down a few months ago, but since have forgotten it.  Anyone know what it is now?  GNRsource.com or something to that effect?
