Title: Chinese Democracy nominated for a Juno Award
Post by: jarmo on February 03, 2009, 06:44:55 PM
AC/DC's "Black Ice", GUNS N' ROSES' "Chinese Democracy" and METALLICA's "Death Magnetic" have been nominated in the "International Album Of The Year" category at this year's Juno Awards, it was announced today (February 3) at a media conference at Toronto's Fairmont Royal York Hotel. Also nominated in the "Recording Engineer Of The Year" category was Mike Fraser for his work on AC/DC's "Rock N' Roll Train" single. The awards show, hosted by comedian Russell Peters, will air on Sunday, March 29 on CTV from General Motors Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

For a complete list of nominees, go to this location (http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/theampersand/archive/2009/02/03/2009-juno-award-nominations-announced.aspx).

The Juno Awards are presented annually to Canadian musical artists and bands to acknowledge their artistic and technical achievements in all aspects of music. New members of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame are also inducted as part of the awards ceremonies.

Winners are currently chosen by members of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences or, depending on the award, a panel of experts. In almost all of the main general categories, such as "Album of the Year" or "Artist of the Year", nominees are determined by sales during the qualifying period; in genre-specific categories, they are determined by panel.

Some stiff competition there.  I'm not too crazy about the new ACDC, but I respect the band and how well the album has sold.  I love the other 2 albums though.  I can't believe an Awards show can have such good taste.  There's no Britney Spears nomination or someone of that ilk?

This is nice, congrats GNR.

''nominees are determined by sales during the qualifying period"  IF THE WINNER IS DETERMINED BY SALES TOO, GNR WONT WIN, OBVIUSLY. SAD BUT TRUE.

Wouldn't hurt to e-mail the Juno Awards committee to proclaim our support for Chinese Democracy for the International Album of the Year Award!  : ok:

I did it, and received a "Thank you for the suggestion!" response. Please, everyone else do too!

Good job italysfinest1985 : ok:

''nominees are determined by sales during the qualifying period"  IF THE WINNER IS DETERMINED BY SALES TOO,

then why should there be several nominees for each award.

They picked the nominees based on sales, they didn't say the winner would be based on sales.  That'd be a pretty lame way to decide.  ACDC would win hands down, why have other nominees?  So obviously that won't be the basis to choose the winner.

I received messages from people on MySpace who are e-mailing them and are getting various "Thank you, we'll take that into consideration" responses. Keep it up guys.

It can't hurt... ;D

I wish awards weren't tainted by with skepticism, that is the sad truth. The Grammys didn't award the Beach Boys any awards, and yet it is considered the best album of all time.

This year's favoured album to win is "Carter III" by Lil' Wayne... the highest selling album of the year. Sold 1 million in one week...

The Juno's award Celine Dion constantly too... if you get what I'm saying.

I'm pretty sure CD isn't eligible for a grammy until next year.

Being nominated is awesome.

All the shit that's been said about the album doesn't matter. It got nominated and acknowledged.

 :(

Coldplay beat out AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, Jack Johnson and Metallica for best international album of the year, the only Juno category open to non-Canadian acts and based on domestic music sales.

Coldplay really had the momentum this year.  It would have been hard to beat them.  At least it wasn't ACDC.

What vote it was by record sales.  Really in this case the fact that Canada had GnR nominated shows they respect the music

I actually like both coldplay and oasis (and gnr of course) : ok:

you can hate on coldplay but they are not talentless for sure

not a big fan but maybe I prefer coldplay to 'tallica or acdc.

I don't get it when people show such a strong hatred toward a band. quite scary.

What??  Coldplay are nothing to do with Oasis .  and they write some good stuff, Clocks and The Scientist are cracking songs in my opinion....
