Lil Wayne, Kanye West Lined Up for Revamped 'Behind the Music'

Two renown rappers will up the ante for the return of VH1's "Behind the Music" that ceased from airing back in 2006. Executives for the music channel announced yesterday that the semi-documentary program will come back for a second round and it turns out that they have had a line of names that focus more on the current than the veterans.

In separate episodes, Lil Wayne and Kanye West will be featured in a bid to have more contemporary artists who are "on top of their game". Executive Vice President of the show, Rick Krim explained on the changing of the format, "We had to rethink a little bit and look at these current artists that are really big stars now, and maybe it isn't the classic rise and fall. ...And also, just because their big stars now doesn't mean they necessarily have a great 'Behind the Music' kind of story."

Signed for the first two episodes are Lil Wayne and Scott Weiland respectively. "From our research, (Lil Wayne) certainly does," Krim reasoned on the choice. "From the fact that when he was a kid he accidentally shot himself and almost died at age 12 while playing with a gun, he went through Katrina, he has (a possible stint in) jail pending. He has all the requisite drama in his life, which I think ultimately makes for the great story. The fact that he's one of the biggest stars out there makes it the right combination that we're looking for."

The show is slated to arrive in July although Lil Wayne's date is not yet revealed. VH1 also mentioned other names such as Britney Spears, Axl Rose, Julio Iglesias, M.I.A., Coldplay, Radiohead and Depeche Mode.

BTM for Guns N' Roses was absolute bullshit.    I hope if they do one for Axl they do a better job with it.

It was total bullshit. Axl doing this would right, a lot of wrongs.

Unfortunately, everytime Axl says something, his reputation is further damaged.

Stupid public.

I hope this one is true. You guys are right. Poeple always twist things around and make Axl look bad. But for those of us that take Axl for who he is this would be a great way to get some answers.

Not to b negative, but what makes anyone think he is gonna do an interview with VH1, he won't grant them at all unless they are a trusted party (Del James), he has already come directly to the fans personally to clear the air, and the lyrics to some of these song, truley speak for thereselves.  He has already given us a look and a listen to his side in a way that he is comfortable, in his own words.

I think it would be great for Axl to take part in the show.  Give the public (those who don't use internet) his story and to finally hear the truth.

Not going to happen. VH1 is just throwing out names. Radiohead? They would never agree to such a thing.

Didn't Baz say Axl would pay VH1 to leave him alone when he had told Axl about his reality show?

yup, pretty much something like that

Quote
?Another thing that I don?t know you?ll ever see is a Axl Rose reality show. When I see that shit, I laugh. Here?s the only other time that he got mad at me. I had just finished shooting Supergroup for VH1. It was on TV in America while we were gallivanting across Europe. We had a beautiful dinner at some incredible Italian restaurant. We are sitting there and I go, ?Dude, I just shot this reality show for VH1 and they paid me this amount of money, man. It was fucking easy. It was only like two weeks. It was hilarious. Axl, if they paid me this amount of money, they?d pay you like a million bucks for 10 days of some shit.? He?s looking at me with this look on his face and he?s all quiet and he goes, ?Sebastian, you don?t understand.? I go, ?What?? He goes, ?I will pay VH1 $2 million to leave me the fuck alone!? I would bet my life you won?t be seeing the Axl Rose reality TV show.

:hihi: i love the "sebastian, you don't understand"

He said that he would pay them $1 million for them not to do a reality show. Uncle Axl is a very private person.

well, its a bit different with a realityshow.. then behind the music..

Im sure it would be interesting if Axl told his story in some kind of medium on tv, dont know if Behind the music would be
the best, but it could be cool

I have linked up lots of people with the Axl Chat, interviews and stuff, and lots of people got pretty shocked about it.. U know, some
are used to take Slash rants for good fish.

yeah, i think such a show could be extremely beneficial. axl could tell his side of the story unlike the previous Behind the Music session on Guns N Roses which was just a hatchet job against him.

these shows reach a lot of people and even those who arent going to take the time to read the chats can watch a few minutes of a show and get a new perspective.

Axl did some pretty big interviews with Kurt Loder for MTV that were always respectfully done.

The Behind the Music series has never about making the artists look bad but instead very human.  I can't imagine they would do anything negative.  It'll likely be the story behind CD, which is quite a compelling one.

Did you see the GNR Behind the Music? It wasn't exactly positive towards Axl.

I seem to recall not long ago that everyone on this site was celebrating Axl's general refusal to do this kind of show and saying that he was above the sell-outs with no integrity that whore themselves out to the TV networks for publicity.  Ho hum.

how is telling your story in your own words on a tv show meant to document musicians' careers "whoring yourself"?

there's a huge difference between a reality show that involves catering to people's voyeuristic tendencies with artificially constructed "reality" and a well-researched piece that features an artist's journey.

Well, of course the history of the old GN'R does include the St. Louis and Quebec riots; they can't really be overlooked.

I think it was former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted who took a dig at Axl regarding the Quebec show. I don't think the narrator offered up a jaded view of him, at least from what I can recall.

Having Axl tell his side of the old GN'R story would be big-time must see TV. I hope it happens.

You might want to watch it again, especially towards the end. I found it on Youtube in 7 parts under "Guns n Roses interview" recently.

Obviously Axl would have been offered a chance to participate and declined, and that made it whatever story the other guys wanted to tell.   BTM is an authorized production.
